I've been having some problems lately where the music stops or doesnt play in one side or the other.
Normally I attribute that to bad headphones, but Ive been able to pin it down to the pins inside the jack because if the headphones are no good, the app should still play the audio. I have it set to stop on headphone disconnect so that answers that.
Plus when looking in there, the pins aren't extruded as much as I recall normal for headphone jacks.
I opened it up to take a look as I've done this with other devices. the pins usually have exposure on the outside of the jack you can just push in with a sewing needle or some such and thats it.
This one seems to have it encased in a plastic shell.
Anyone have any recommendations or ideas to try?
It would be hard to use the needle idea and get a good angle for the deeper ones, and with no real light to work with.
Dumb question but have you tried a different set of headphones or try the ones you got in another device.

+1, first rule of diagnostics, take something know working and try it. Just because the pin doesn't look like its in the same it was before, doesn't mean anything. It could be bent and you could be right, or you could be wrong, but until you do as said, try a know working pair of headphones on it or try the headphones on something else, you're just guessing and already took your phone apart for possibly nothing.
If you do determine it's the jack, they sell the whole assembly on Ebay for about $20.

Yes, headphones work elsewhere, others exhibit similar behavior.
Although i went crazy plugging it in and out, trying to clean the contacts and it has cut back alot on the disconnecting/stopping.
My issue is my case doesnt accommodate the headphones 100%, so it puts a little pressure on it, which I think is pushing some contacts in a bit more. I've had this happen before on pda's.
Bluetooth headphones then?

I think your best bet would be something like this, http://shop.mobileweb.ebay.com/sear...sort=BestMatch&mfs=GOCLK&acimp=0&isNewKw=true
Like you said the design of these ports are encased in plastic which would make it a lot harder to adjust the pins. That flex seems cheap enough to try?
I'm assuming you've taken the case off the phone and tried?? The reason I ask is that my fiance thought she had a bad audio port. Her music would also only play on one side of the headphones. She also has a case on her phone. I looked at the phone and it was pretty clear that the male end of the headphone jack was larger than the hole in the case. It wasn't seating properly. So I took off the case and plugged in the headphones. They worked perfectly. Then I went to the garage and got my drill and a drill bit slightly larger than the male end of the plugs. Drilled out the case to the correct size and put the case back on her phone. Problem solved.

Hey all,
What is the function of the small indented circle below the kickstand on the back of the TB?
It covers a screw to open the phone.
It's a rubber plug. Probably covering a screw.
Does this cover a screw?! I always thought it covered one of those external antenna ports (like you used to see back in the 90s)...
If you stick a safety pin into the rubber cover then you should be able to easily pop it off and see for yourself.
I'm pretty sure its for an external antenna as a lot of cases have a hole for it.

Dear Larry,
I understand you would like to know what the gray circle is on the back of the Thunderbolt. If you are referring to a piece that is rubber like, this is a cover for a screw that is holding the back speaker under the kickstand into place.

Its like a miniature coax plug for an external cell phone antenna
The plug isn't easy to get out & can be pushed through the hole when reinstalling it so be careful if you get curious & check it out

OK, copy that. Thanks for correcting me. Any points for being close?
Captain Obvious observation: the spot in question, the hole next to the 3.5 jack and the twin holes to the left of the rear camera must "do" something. My gel skin has cut-outs for each.
Coax, it is, then. Good, because I've been looking at LTE-compatible antennas.

The twin holes are for the antenna which is on the outside of the battery cover. Inside, you'll see some gold plating, that carries through the holes, and there's more plating on the outside (which is painted over), which forms an antenna. The holes just connect the inside and outside together. There's no reason for a case to have openings there.
Copy. Personally I hardly notice them. I obviously did take notice due to this post. Despite the "bugs" in the TB, it works and that is all that matters. I am just looking forward to it getting better when 4G is active for my home area and the update to Android 2.3.
I heard its its butt hole.

Happy 12th birthday.
I finally got it working! I had to use the usb port so I'll need to get a touchstone for work, home and car but it is pretty sweet. It is pretty straight forward, but the hardest part was cutting the usb in half and soldering on it. I used http://www.qianqin.de/2011/09/18/samsung-galaxy-s-wireless-inductive-charging-mod/ as a reference. The wiring for the (+) is in the pics, but for the (-) I just slipped the black wire through one of the small holes in the bottom of the back cover and sandwiched it between the sim card and the metal sim holder to gain a ground.
I know it's not elegant, but I just wanted to share. As far as I know no one else has done this with a sensation.
Wow, that's pretty cool man.
Nice work mate, I love seeing people experiment and come up with new things
Nice!
I think there was another person that tried but didn't get it working because he was using his stock cover and also said he couldn't get past some of the wiring. I forget but I think it had to do with the sd card being in the way or something.
But good job in getting it done!
Can something like this be done to keep from cutting the usb?

Unless you have a industrial grade precision solder station I doubt it. The internals are too small and crowded unlike the HTC EVO or Incredible. Believe me I tried; my phone has been completely broken down around 4 times already.

That definitely would be easier than cutting into one, but the actual metal "plug" portion of the usb is too long. My pics are really blurry but I had to remove the pins, separate the inner plastic and outer metal, cut both in half and surgically bend the + pin into a square "J" shape, glue it in place, reinstall the metal casing and solder the pin to the wire without melting the plastic bit that holds the pin. It was a B!TCH!
Even though I cut the connector in half (actually closer to 2/5) it still sticks out just a bit unfortunately. There is a positive resistor inside the phone that could be used, but things are so tight that I doubt anyone short of a surgeon could solder to it.
nice job mate

Instead of soldering and dealing with melted plastic, is it possible to use conductive glue? I have never used something like this especially if I am trying to send some decent power though this.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing to my Sensation. I wanted to make sure that the Touchstone charger would support the weight of my phone in it's case, so I took the short cut of using parts from a microUSB charger to route from the induction coil terminals to the charge port. I'm halfway through routing all the necessary connections to go through the board instead of the charge port. In the attached picture, I've highlighted 2 test points that will let you route your +5v line into the board. I'll use the metal housing of the sim card reader to attach the ground.

Since the back of the phone is metal and its always going to be in a case I'm going to have to use pogo plugs or some other form of metal contacts to go through the back housing to allow me to pull off the case/back whenever I need. I'll have my charge port free to use over USB as well

Anybody else ever experience this problem or know a solution? More often lately it seems the phone does not charge unless just the right amount of pressure is applied down and to the left. Hope its not a bent pin, otherwise I'd have to bend it back eh?
I've tried a couple of my friends cables and some work better than others. What's up with that?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Hmm, how long have you had your phone for?
Yea, it could be a bent pin, I'd say the contacts could be getting worn down also. Well, if you've had it for a while, thinking back a number of years when I was moonlighting as a greeter in a verizon store, sometimes they would take a small wire brush and scrub the contacts. Which isn't a *bad* idea, if we want to go back to the old NES days, I used to wipe my cartridges with rubbing alcohol and while still wet, put them in and power it up, was a sure-fire way to get the thing working, lol. I DON"T recommend that for you phone but taking a q-tip or small wire brush with alcohol and *cleaning* the contacts could help or even solve the problem, obviously also look to see if maybe a piece of dirt got stuck in there as well, if you haven't already done so.
With my previous LG phone, I used a Samsung charger with it since it was a microUSB charger as well. Though apparently the plugs were barely different sizes, and this screwed up my contacts to the point where I would have to do the same thing, apply pressure down to get the phone to charge.
It sounds like a dumb thing to ask "Are you using the right charger?" but that caused an issue for me last time even though they were the same type of adapter.
I've had the phone since last April and I'm using the charger that came with it. Speaking of old school nes tricks, I did try blowing into both ends and it seemed a bit easier to get charging. I am a bit hesitant to clean with a qtip as I would think it would leave more cotton fibers than it would clean.

ROFL, gotta love those old tricks!
If you go hard-core at it, yea it will leave fibers, but I've done that to a dude's treo once and darn near completely fixed his issue. Looking at our phone, a q-tip may not do much for the actual contact edge because of the small hole. You could definitely grab an old toothbrush, dip it in rubbing alcohol, and scrub away. It's be less harsh than the wire brush and more likely to be effective than my q-tip method.
other idea is you can buy a new charging port for the phone and swap it out. I have seen them for sale on eBay and amazon for about 5 to 10 bucks. They have you tube videos on how to crack the phone open....but I think they make it look easy as their phone was most likely cracked open before the video. That's if you want to do it your self. I am looking at replacing mine when I change my digitizer.
Sent from a phone... do you really need to know more?
Update: I am 100% positive that the problem is with the cord and NOT the port! Don't replace the port unless you are positive its bad! All the older cords I've tried have the same problem where it wont charge unless positioned just right, whereas newer cords work just fine.

True, but I doubt any BT headphones would last 8-10 hours of music
If a waterproof case exposes either the headphone or USB connectors it's not waterproof. Those are the first thing waterproof case makers try to isolate.
Not necesarry. there are cases for swimmers that have molded wires into the case to wich yu connect your headphones to

Thanks for mentioning that one. Ive been looking for a good bike mount for a long time. Everyone I have purchased does not hold up well. This one looks pretty good.
I'm using a stock unrooted m8. Mid song the headphones stopped working and sound came through the speakers. Thought it was the headphones but they're fine, tried em on other phones. However no other headphones work on my phone currently, won't even recognize that there's anything plugged in.
I did some research and found this issue to be well documented, and the only solution being to wipe cache which I did to no avail. Any solutions?

Agree. This has happened to me numerous times with various phones since I use my earbuds so much and the phone often in my pocket. Google a tutorial. I use q-tips with rubbing alcohol and then a needle to basically pull everything out of there. Once with my DNA I was shocked with how much lint came out of there.
