Connecting charger problems? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Anybody else ever experience this problem or know a solution? More often lately it seems the phone does not charge unless just the right amount of pressure is applied down and to the left. Hope its not a bent pin, otherwise I'd have to bend it back eh?
I've tried a couple of my friends cables and some work better than others. What's up with that?

Hmm, how long have you had your phone for?
Yea, it could be a bent pin, I'd say the contacts could be getting worn down also. Well, if you've had it for a while, thinking back a number of years when I was moonlighting as a greeter in a verizon store, sometimes they would take a small wire brush and scrub the contacts. Which isn't a *bad* idea, if we want to go back to the old NES days, I used to wipe my cartridges with rubbing alcohol and while still wet, put them in and power it up, was a sure-fire way to get the thing working, lol. I DON"T recommend that for you phone but taking a q-tip or small wire brush with alcohol and *cleaning* the contacts could help or even solve the problem, obviously also look to see if maybe a piece of dirt got stuck in there as well, if you haven't already done so.

With my previous LG phone, I used a Samsung charger with it since it was a microUSB charger as well. Though apparently the plugs were barely different sizes, and this screwed up my contacts to the point where I would have to do the same thing, apply pressure down to get the phone to charge.
It sounds like a dumb thing to ask "Are you using the right charger?" but that caused an issue for me last time even though they were the same type of adapter.

I've had the phone since last April and I'm using the charger that came with it. Speaking of old school nes tricks, I did try blowing into both ends and it seemed a bit easier to get charging. I am a bit hesitant to clean with a qtip as I would think it would leave more cotton fibers than it would clean.

ROFL, gotta love those old tricks!
If you go hard-core at it, yea it will leave fibers, but I've done that to a dude's treo once and darn near completely fixed his issue. Looking at our phone, a q-tip may not do much for the actual contact edge because of the small hole. You could definitely grab an old toothbrush, dip it in rubbing alcohol, and scrub away. It's be less harsh than the wire brush and more likely to be effective than my q-tip method.

other idea is you can buy a new charging port for the phone and swap it out. I have seen them for sale on eBay and amazon for about 5 to 10 bucks. They have you tube videos on how to crack the phone open....but I think they make it look easy as their phone was most likely cracked open before the video. That's if you want to do it your self. I am looking at replacing mine when I change my digitizer.
Sent from a phone... do you really need to know more?

Update: I am 100% positive that the problem is with the cord and NOT the port! Don't replace the port unless you are positive its bad! All the older cords I've tried have the same problem where it wont charge unless positioned just right, whereas newer cords work just fine.

Bezel around USB port cracked/chipped

I've had my Captivate about six weeks now. This morning the door on the USB port wouldn't slide open, so I looked at the bezel, and a small piece had chipped out right behind the port. I carefully removed the chipped out piece, and the USB door opens fine now.
I called both AT&T and Samsung, AT&T wants $465.00 for a new phone, and Samsung wants me to send the phone in.
Anybody have any ideas where I can get a replacement bezel?
Lots of people looking, anybody got any ideas?
I believe you would have to replace the entire case, or at least the top half. review the teardowns to be sure, but I don't know where you will find it. If you know which part, www.cnn.cn has lots of parts.
Thank you very much, I'll check it out.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Thanks for the help, but no luck. I've searched dozens of sites, and haven't found anything yet.
I managed to successfully superglue the chip back in place, without screwing up the function of the door or looking bad.
I would be curious to know of other people this has happened too, though.
I have not heard of it happening. Sounds like the phone got jerked when the USB cord was in and probably got jerked out sideways and cracked the housing.

Captivate drowned in toilet

My Captivate fell off into the toilet for 2 seconds It was playing music and continued doing so after I took it out. I immediately took the battery out and dried it. I waited for the next day to try it again, just to make sure it dried completely. It seemed to work fine for a while, then I noticed I wasn't able to make calls all the time and it took the sim card some time to get recognized. (Sim card works fine on another phone)
The battery is dying faster, but that's not a big deal, I can replace it. Also I've noticed I can't boot the phone anymore without a battery.. I thought this was possible before. right?
Not sure what to do now. I'm using another backup phone for calls, and the captivate for everything else.
How did you dry it? Did you drop it in rice? I hear that's the best way.
You need to have the battery to boot the phone up...
I hear that if your phone does get wet what your suppose to do is put your phone in a bag of rice it is suppose to dry it out
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Rice it up. With battery. All moisture needs to go bye bye. Though its probably to late, you should have left it off until you were 100% sure it was dry. Doesn't hurt to keep trying.
Edit: To anyone that hasn't done this yet. Unless you make enough money to wipe you [email protected] with $100 bills, don't take a [email protected] with phone in your hands.
yeah ill only take a [email protected] with my phone because i "have alot in the way".
pee hell no.. butter fingers!
If there was pee in the toilet you might get corrosion issues soon... if it was just water than drying it out should be fine.
I dried it with some toilet paper, and then used some alcohol to clean it up. Luckily the toilet was clean (only water). I also used a hair dryer (which I later read was a bad idea because heat might damage it).
I didn't use rice, but I was almost pretty sure it dried the next day.
BTW, I was listening to music while taking a shower... it's just that the bathroom is small and I was carrying some other stuff. unlucky...
Now it's showing the At&t sign and a couple of signal bars but still not making calls. I'll try to flash a new ROM, just in case..

Yes I was thinking of doing exactly the same thing. The water damage label on the battery is red already so that need to be replaced but I see another one on the phone, which is still white.
BTW, I was able to make a call now! we'll see how it goes.
Honestly, I'm impressed by the build quality. The speakers still work great and the screen is perfect.

Actually there are two -- one on battery, and one on the phone itself beside the connectors.
EVERY time I take my phone in there I think it is going to happen to me because my bathroom is tiny and for some reason I have a habit of carrying my phone directly over the toilet haha. Sorry to hear that though, try the rice in a bag trick. That should soak up most of the moisture

since you let it sit over night you may have a permanant problem. next time though use the rice trick, or better yet, dismantle it imediately! and dry it with a hair dryer, but watch the heat levels! the cappy has convertional phillips screws and is rugged and easy to disassemble without breaking anything. one reason i love it. i appreciate the design.
We've used the rice method a couple times,(teenagers) with perfect results. Too late now I think tho. We've done rice AND some desicant packs, make sure you throw out the rice!! Make sure the unit and battery is completely submerged in the rice, cover and leave it for a couple days. Good luck.
Rice works all the time saved 1 ipod put in to a washing machine. 1 iphone dropped in toilet thanks the wife. When you do the rice put it in a bag the longer you leave it in the better.

TF201/700 Dock Feet

So I've got to say that every aspect of having the dock for my TF700 Infinity is absolutely outstanding. Though I have had one issue that is seeming to become worse.
The "feet" on the dock have started to come off. So far I have lost two of them, without a clue as to where they have gone. I called ASUS, and they said that if I were lucky they might have them for sale on there site, which they don't. They also said that these missing feet would not be covered under warranty if I were to even go through the hassle of sending it back to them.
So this brings the question. Does anyone know where I can either get replacement feet, or what I might be able to fabricate new feet out of? I wouldn't normally care about the feet, except that they do a wonderful job of keeping the tablet and dock from sliding around on my desk. I honestly wouldn't even mind adding a mm or two to the back feet so that they could do a better job of that while the tablet/dock are opened.
Any suggestions on a rubber type material, or other such material, that I could use to create some new feet? I'd be willing to make them for the community also if I could just find the right material. I am sure that I'm not the only one being plauged by this issue, maybe it's just bothering me more than most.

Try on ebay - I've replaced the rubber feet on one of our laptops - there was a huge choice and managed to fine ones better than the originals.
Although not sure you'll get a colour match, I'm sure the sizes will be available in a number of heights.
Try a decoration or furniture store, they usually sell rubber non-slip anti-scratch stickers for under decorative items. They work rather well under the dock, too.

Dude, i have the answer!!! ............i have found the feet that are perfect nearly 99.5% the same as the originals. I just need to find the ebay sellers name from my emails, as the auction i bought from has been archived. I will post back later tonight with the answer
If you have a friend or you yourself owns a Hot glue gun then you can just put a tiny dolop of hot glue where the feet used to be. It should stay for a long while and they are just as good as a silicone nub or foot for these products. my wife has one of these thats the only reason why it came up. Otherwise i would go to Home Depot, by me they have a huge selection of these kinds of things for furniture.

I've got one myself actually. I'm just hesitant about doing something possibly so permanent. Also, I know if I can't get it just right, flat and all... It's really going to bug the crap out of me too... Not saying it's a bad idea, it's a great one... I'm just finding that I have to weigh it against my ocd...
The hot glue gun sounds like a great idea. I'll be trying that later today on my wife's laptop.

a small dab of RTV Silicone works well too. I've been doing that on my laptops for years.
I gave up... I used hot-glue... It works perfectly! And it's easily removable if need be. The only difficult part is getting it shaped correctly.
Hot glue works. I've used Sugru on my laptop feet. Love that stuff...

Those look quite nice. I'm going to order them, and hope that they stick on over my Skinomi. If not, I'll get the exacto blade out and carve them up to the right size.

[Q] Black Screen/Loose Cable?

Apparently my phone is deciding to freak out ever since I have decided to upgrade to a Nexus 5 when/if it comes out in Oct. I did my forum search/homework and found that by pushing the left side of the display about mid way the screen would come back on. Given the right amount of pressure and duration the screen will stay on. So I thought it was just a loose cable and decided to be brave and open it up and reseat the cable.
I amazingly was able to open up the housing without breaking anything... a first for me. I located the cable about half way down the left side and did what I thought was reseating it. I popped the display/board back into the back housing and snapped it down. Well it turns out that if I snap down the right side and the bottom but leave the left side unsnapped everything works without a hitch. As soon as I snap down the left side the screen goes black and I have to do the pressure on the left side of the screen thing to get the display working.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm not adverse to opening the case up again but I don't know what exactly I should do once I have it open now that reseating the cable didn't work. Is it possible that a bit of felt or something on top of the cable would work to get enough pressure on it? Should I blow the whole thing out with compressed air in case there is dust or grime in the connector? Seriously, I am open to suggestions.

The issue is most likely with the flex cable itself and not the connector. a rip or a weakspot. One person managed to get it working by unfolding the cable. If you're able, you could try replacing the flex cable.

I had the same exact issue. The cable is supposed to be bent like that, but if you unbend it, the display comes on. Unfortunately doing that caused my cable to short and the phone caught on fire.. I had to buy a nexus 4 (only $400, happy with it) instead of repairing the hox for $250+

Yah I think 10-20$ on a flex cable is worth the risk compared to 400 for a new phone though..
Thanks for the info! Sounds like I'm toasted. It sucks because I babied the hell out of this phone. No drops, no moisture, always in a case with a screen protector. On the other hand I beat the hell out of my old LG Optimus S. Dropped that thing more times than I can remember and its still going strong as my dedicated car MP3 player. Go figure.
I may pick up a Galaxy 3 on craigslist for $250 and then sell it when the new Nexus comes out. I should be able to sell it for $250 and thus not lose any money. Still rather have the HOX screen than the crap Galaxy screen though.

Well, if it requires more than a simple unplug and plug back in it may not be for me. Heck it was a minor miracle to get the back plate off and put back on without a mushroom cloud.
That said, craigslist may have an answer. S3 for $250 or s4 for $300. If they actually go through with the sales I may buy both and resell the one I can live without. Then I could try my hand at fixing this thing and sell the other. Silver lining and all that...

Yeah replacing the flex cable would be more difficult
Well, the the supposed s4 turned into the seller trying to pass off an s3 as an s4. The s3 was busted all to hell. So I am thinking that I may try my hand at a HOX repair.
Would I be replacing the whole LCD or just the ribbon? I did some looking around and I couldn't really find a One XL lcd flex cable. Found a bunch for My Touch and other phones though which is quite helpful.
LCD would be easier but you'll want to get one with the exact same color flex cable as you have now to make life easier on yourself because there are 3 different screens for the onexl.

Full LCD is about $80+ right? Could you point me in the direction of the cheaper alternative? Also, if you would, what would it take to replace just the cable?
No i cant because I don't know which of the 3 LCDs you have. Also 80 is around what you should expect to pay. Don't go too cheap or you'll have yourself a cheaply made LCD that burns out after 2 months.
Ive never done this for this phone before but i imagine Replacing the flex cable involves heating the cable on the LCD end using a heat gun to soften the glue and then carefully removing the cable on the LCD end then heating the new cable to get it to attach to the LCD and then solidifying with a glue gun. Once it's all dried in place you can snap in the connector on the other end to the board.
If anyone else wants to add to this feel free.

Yep, definitely a tight fit compared to my N4!
I'm having this problem and I'm super scared of breaking my USB port on the phone. Its really hard/tricky to get it in the slot

Yes, I have had trouble with that USB port but, thankfully to my surprise. The problem isn't so much with the port as it is the actual cord. I pretty much stopped using that cord immediately by the way. Not only was it too difficult to put in and remove. It also had too much wiggle and play than I was comfortable with. Anyhow, if you notice on the N5 cord. There are two little teeth like things that I think are meant to hold the cord in the phone. The teeth on the N5 cable are much more prominent than on most other cords I have used which I think is effecting the fit. I actually started trying out random cords to see which one fits the best. The results were that almost any other cord fit better. They all basically fit how they were supposed to, especially my old Samsung cord. That thing is super snug and easy to remove. On a side not, I had to get a replacement N5 because of an unrelated problem and the USB cable from the replacement was just as crappy.
Or you can just go completely wireless and get a qi charger and a netgear ptv3000 miracast device for the TV and have no cords to think about at all. That is what I did and I love it!!!
Just a heads up with anybody with the Nexus 5 white. The OEM charger's teeth will dig into the body a little bit. After 2 charge cycles I noticed my charging port having two tiny knicks from where the OEM cable was digging into the port since of the tight fit. I immediately switched to an old Samsung cable and it goes in and comes out much easier. WTF Google. smh

I can confirm this. I also felt is was unusually difficult to plug in, and I actually noticed the 2 tiny dents just before reading this thread.
I wouldn't worry about it. If it actually is a flaw, the phone has a 1 year warranty and the port is easy to replace yourself when the warranty runs out.
I actually prefer the tight fit after having many phones where the cord would fall out if you looked at it wrong...
It is a pain to work with, so much so I bought a Tylt Vu and went wireless.

Noticed I have two tiny knicks at the charging port where the teeth from the charger go in. I switched out the cable with the one from the n4. Other than that, flawless device.
i too also have this my device is the newest build with the newer hardware revisions, im scared of breaking the charging port so i always look @ the prongs on the cable and make sure they're facing the correct way :
I don't think its going to break the charging port or anything, purely cosmetic. I had the same thing happen on an iPad where the teeth on the side of the 30 pin scratched two perfect lines along the inside of the port.

Wish I read this before plugging it my brand new nexus 5. Now I have a couple nicks on the side. So disappointed. Does this only happen to the white version, or does this apply to the black one too?

I got used to it and I am now using a USB cable from an old Samsung phone. Goes in easier (no pun intended) I really can't speak on the black version since I only have the white one, but I am taking a wild guess that since the sides of the White Nexus 5 is different, it would be more prone to the USB cable marks.

Well, every phone probably ends up with these scuffs anyways in the near future. It just sucks since this is a brand new device. The nicks on my N5 are on the top plastic part. I assume it's the same for you too?
Guys. Qi charging.
It sounds like its something that is happening to both white and black variants.

Qi charging is definitely an option but has had it's fair share of issues. Everyone has their preference.
I just got my new Nexus 5 and now have the two nicks as well because I wasn't aware of this beforehand.
Edit: Btw, there were LG earbuds in the box with my Nexus 5.
