Hi Everyone,
Since I can't post in the Development area yet, I have to post here. I am trying to get Kingbeatz 3.03 to work with PowerAmp and I'm wondering if anyone has had success with it. It works great with Apollo but I would prefer to use PowerAmp.
I searched the Kingbeatz thread and there was someone who said it worked for them if they disabled DIrect Control but I've tried that with no luck.
I'm running Embryo 6.1 ROM.
Any suggestions or experiences are welcome...and...if you haven't tried Kingbeatz yet...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?
Cheers

It will not work with power amp since power amp has its own equalizer built into it it is discussed in his thread nothing he can do about it because every time power amp updates there app he will have to mod there app to make it work its not really worth his time to be honest use rocket player and isyncr to get music and playlist together for best sound with kingbeatz
newb here also, i have also not seen an answer to this, does kingbeatz only effect headphone sound quality, how about the speaker on the phone, i havent noticed any sound improvement with the phones speaker

Thanks Crash for the info. That's too bad because I really like the interface of PowerAmp but Apollo isn't bad either. I'll try Rocket Player as well.
Also want to thank you for all your other posts I've come across on XDA. A lot of them have been very helpful.

I have Bose In-Ear Headphones and I noticed a considerable difference with the highs and lows. They were crisper and clearer. I've also tried Kingbeatz on my bluetooth ClarityHD (not much difference) and my Onkyo (Receiver) / JBL (Speakers) and I don't notice much of a difference either. Mind you the latter already sound amazing but it could be the beatz settings that I have to play around with to get better sound. Still experimenting.

If you use isyncr with iTunes you can make your playlist that way you don't have to search thru the entire list ... unfortunately Apollo does have any folder feature but since I bought isyncr its made Apollo more useful and even power amp.. just a suggestion

Yup. that's one thing I am finding with Apollo is that there is no folder feature. You have to organize it from when you copy it onto your phone.

crashpsycho,
have you ever run into anyone having issues with Apollo FCing randomly or every now and then there is a loud pop, crackle or static for a split second while music is playing w/ Beatz?
Beatz seems to be a memory hog so I'm going to try running Apollo without live wallpaper and some other processes running to see if it stops the random noises.

to be honest the only time you should hear a change in the sound when music is playing and you messing with beatz together... if you think if it comes a part in the song that you hit hard bass or crazy high hat u will definitely get a pop recommendatin dont change beatz during music my setting are "Acoustic" with "a Bit Better" "no Bass" or Loudness, VR set to "Room"...
yeah it is a memory hogger but very worth it if you have a Bloated Rom and Unuseful app get rid of them and let Android built Task manager to fix memory for you and you shouldnt have any issue cuz i dont

You may like xing player. It's ui is kind of like power amp. And the cracking sound I usually get when I multi-task or have something else running while the music is playing.
I also have this thing where beats just stop. I'm guessing it's the OOM closing beats.

EQ function alone makes it worthwhile...more testing to come
the is the best proffesional looking Music player .. prev used astro player .. it was nice , this is the awesome... feels good and solid
made into my main music player .. especially the EQ are great with around 16 bands ?
I totally agree. PowerAMP is the best music player I've tried on android. I used Mixzing back on 1.6 and it wasn't bad, but this is damn good player I have owned two SonyEricssons before and they both were Walkmans, so I'm used to have a phone producing good sound. Finally, my X10 does it as well

Yep, i come from mixzing too.
PowerAMP is top app.
Winamp is just a kid compared with PowerAMP
I also was a fan of Mixzing, but must say that Poweramp looks even better.
However, there is one thing that is not to my taste and those are the widgets.
In Mixzing, I have a full screen widget and a full screen lockscreen. Poweramp only has the 4x1 or 4x2.
If there was a full-screen version of the widget, then this would be damn perfect.
I agree, best music app. However I just can't get the X10 to produce sound as good as I expect. I was hoping 2.1 might lead me to a better sound. I have an iPod nano and it just plays louder, with better sound quality/clarity. Anyone else notice this? Maybe I just have a bunk phone.
When you listen to metal, you want it loud and clear. I may be destroying my ears, but at least its epically brutal.
I think this app is fine, but I just wonder why yiu have to change to lockscreen when the widget doesnt cover the whole screen, might just as well put the normal lockscreen beneath it. How freaking loud do you want it?!

It's not really that it needs to get much louder but when it is at max volume I can hear noticeable distortion. Guitar notes and cymbal crashes turn into a mash of static and sandpaper, when using the same headphones (shure se115s) on the nano at higher volume produces a clearer, richer sound.
Anyway sorry for straying off topic, if it weren't for my issues I would be all over this app all the time. It looks the best, it has the nicest features and i'm glad the lock screen widget doesn't make you unlock with that, then revert to the standard unlock like other apps did on 1.6.
Now that you mention that, I remember hearing distortions and some breaking sound on certain tracks on 1.6. It didnt seem to be on all tracks but just some of em.

True, the stock player have an equal balance and sound better now.
I've seen some threads in the International HOX forum, as well as a new ROM in our forum that support Dolby Mobile.
I'm on Cleanrom, and I don't really want to switch ROMS for an audio effect. I'm definitely curious though.
How can I flash Dolby Mobile onto my HOX without any ROM changes?
What about ALSA? I know MixGet is on the play store, but does it work for anyone?

I mean heres the apk. IMO its just another gimmick like beats. Its just a different equalizer. Seriously just use poweramp or playerpro or even the equalizer app from the play store and set your settings according to your preference. Surround sound is not possible through a 3.5mm stereo jack. At best, you will get virtual surround sound which distorts or incorrectly balances sounds.
Thats my opinion. But you are better off sending a PM to XsMagical and ask him about it since he ported the ROM that contains it.
Yup that I know, a gimmick it is for sure. I wish the HOX had a wolfson dac, or a voodoo-like hack of some sort. Driving larger headphones with higher impendence doesn't quite work well here.
Right now I'm using Google music with DSP manager. I'll occasionally leave beats on while at the gym for the fun of it, usually I'm only using an equalizer though. I just wanted to hear what Dolby could do, never tried it before in my life lol.

I love the Voodoo headphone amp as it boosts the headphone output to a decent level, but installing voodoo sounds has its problems on ICS with calls, etc and all the know bugs. Is there a headphone amp app or widget or something? Best I've found is to make a preset EQ with everything boosted but this affects sound more than Supercurio's work on the Wolfman chip and enabling the headphone boosts.
Jetaudio is the player I've been using on my other phone. Get it from play store. Once you have it go to EQ and look at the top. There is a built in preamp. Slide the bar to 10 and watch your ears bleed. It is by far the best free player that I've used.

Not to hijack, if anyone knows of dev info on compiling new codecs for Android, would you PM me? The lack of Apple lossless keeps me from using my phone for music.

Can you really tell the difference between lossless and compressed? I've tried with some really good earbuds and it's super hard for me to tell. Try talking some albums that you know really well and converting them to mp3 at 224. If you can tell the difference from the phone I'd be amazed.

Yeah, I use Grado cans and anything below 512 kbps is like nails on a chalkboard to me. My library is all Apple lossless at this point and transcoding on the fly is a complexity I'd rather not deal with.
Edit -- Switching to IEMs has made anything compressed even at 512 kbps rather painful. As full-rate Apple Lossless or Flac is typically around 800-1000 kbps, at least for me, there isn't any meaningful gain for the pain.
jetAudio does support Apple Lossless now, and doesn't have the gaps between tracks that used to plague older Android players. It's got it's own usability issues, but it does a decent job.
Now if I can figure out why Voodoo Sound occasionally stops working for me to control amp gain so I can keep the digital gain maxed out.

Since I stopped using my 4g as a phone and just use it as a music player voodoo sounds has worked all the time every time. I think receiving phone calls might be what is causing it to stop working. I few others have reported the same. Something to take a look at at least. If your using jet it has it's own built in pre amp that works well.
I think that maxed out issue you are talking about is a setting in voodoo app causes the db keep going up

I seem to be finding that either placing or receiving a call "disconnects" Voodoo Sound from the analog gain.
The preamp control in jetAudio is a little different -- Voodoo has the benefit of keeping the digital gain as high as possible and just using the audio gain, which should improve sound quality by keeping digitization noise lower.
I have logs for that i go on wheresmycellphone.com and call my phone run logocat right before the call. No one has provided logs yet ? There seems to be dual speaker mode thats changed and an audio route problem. Do u want me to up logs. Does voodoo work on any of ics roms with just dsp manager and how do u tell if it is working really. I think the tv out driver plays a slight role as well there is bluetooth sharing enabled during call when headset not being used or anything.

I like how clear and loud the sound is with ClearAudio+ selected, but I also would like the upscaling ability of DSEE. Whenever I select "ClearAudio+", it automatically grays out the "Sound Effects" menu where DSEE is. Is there a way to make both active at the same time?

nope, when you select clear audio+ your device automatically selects the best customization of effects for you..
But if you check the combos, clearaudio+ sounds different if DSEE is on or off before selecting clear audio+

Ok. If anyone reading this can confirm that I'd appreciate it. But if you even THINK you yourself noticed a difference, then that's still very good. Maybe when I go fiddle around with the Z1s again at my local T-Mobile Store I'll test it myself.
Two ppl on here confirmed though that DSEE HX does NOT work while enabled if you're using another player besides Walkman. Everything else works when enabled (i.e. other functions in Walkman like bass boost, etc), but DSEE HX does not. Why the F would Sony do that? I use PowerAmp and love it but now if I wanna get the Z3, which I do, I have to "take a chance" that the Walkman app can match PA in terms of sound quality. Even with DSEE HX, I'm not totally sure. Walkman app has 5-bands while PA has 10. What do you think Corallus?
Thanks,
RockStar2005
Indeed, heavy poweramp user here and used it over Walkman on Z2 because I found Walkman to be too flat with music. On Z3 I'm using Walkman a lot as the quality is much better than before.
It's obviously down to personal preference, but for how I listen, Walkman with DSEE, dynamic normalise and clearaudio all on, beats what I was getting from poweramp. However sometimes I do find myself turning clearaudio off and noticing in some tracks with it off the music is "wider"
I'll have a play with poweramp fully later as I still haven't set it up since initial Z3 install, I'll let you know.

Corallus,
Your post...........gives me hope. LOL Now I know there's a good chance I will like Walkman app as much as or more than PA based on your statements. That's what I was counting on with the Z3 Walkman....... Hi-Res and DSEE HX making up for the lack of EQ bands that PA has. I'm going to note your settings here for when I get the Z3. If you find a way to resolve that "wider" issue across the board, please post here or PM me as I'd most definitely like to know how you did it.
I was thinking I should have more faith in Sony, which is why I wanted to at least test out the Z1s Walkman more at my local store, but now I think I'll take my chances! Even PA isn't PERFECT on every single track, but 99% of the time it is. lol
Keep me posted, and thank you!

Heavy poweramp user here too. Had all my presets there for the last year, fine tuned to each pair of cans.
Soon as I played the first song with upscaler and EQ preset the sound was immediately much clearer and more detailed.
It made some of my tracks sound like whole new songs. Worked particularly well with more old fashioned masters, making them sound a bit more... uh... modern.
No doubt some wont like it as they'll see it as an artificial way of listening to music, instead of whichever way it was originally intended, but as long as it makes it sound better to my ears I like it.

Sorry, I meant Walkman app yes. Poweramp rarely gets used now, to the point where I've disabled autoplay on headphone jack, and enabled one of sony's triggers for it instead to open walkman and autoplay.
It's a real significant improvement in my book. After listening to poweramp for an hour switching in between. Imo it's as good if not better.

Is it safe to say that I get "optimal" sound with my Z3 by first checking DSEE HX then checking ClearAudio+? Thanks in advance!
P.S. I have to add that I usually don't use any equalizer settings for all my previous phones and music players ... just wanna keep the songs true to what the creators intended to portrait. Maybe I should just use DSEE HX in this case?
DSEE is meant to recover compression losses in low grade or lossy audio files. It attempts to rebuild some of the lost areas but just creates some artificial highs. I read an article that researched it, they basically called it a gimmick.
I think it does help (wouldn't call it a gimmick), but actually, if you guys want to really "open up the sound" on your headphone listening experience, go to the surround sound option just below DSEE HX and choose the "Studio" surround sound option. That will really OPEN UP the sound for you. DSEE HX does the same but it's not as potent as the "Studio" setting is. I would still recommend leaving DSEE on but I disagree about ClearAudio+ and the Dynamic Normalizer too. I tried those and they just seem to make things worse IMHO. I've talked with other ppl on xda (other Z3 threads) and others have expressed the same viewpoints as well.
DSEE HX is only good if you're NOT listening to Hi-Res b/c Hi-Res is already perfect and can't really be improved upon at all. For CD-Quality and esp MP3s/AACs....... DSEE HX will def have more of an impact on sound quality.

If you like DSEE depends person to person but as mentioned in post above by RocketStar2005, don't use it for loseless audio like .flac etc.

Abhinav,
Do you know if it does anything to improve CD-Quality FLAC (files though? They say it doesn't for Hi-RES FLACs (etc.), but CD-Quality FLACs are not Hi-Res, though are STILL lossless.
Thanks,

From what I read from its not useful for CD quality as that's actually good however when you convert to MP3 (and other losless formats) etc you lose some of the highs, which is what DSEE (restoring "lost" highs) is for, if you look at Sony's site and the article its obvious it wont do anything for loseless formats.
Having said that if you find any faults in my interpretations please correct me.
DSEE when turned on apparently uses a lot more battery per playback (66% according to Sony) compared to when not used.
Here is an article on DSEE I think it would explain things better than me.

Here is another interesting one on HD Audio by the creator of the OGG Vorbis format.

I know what it does but not sure about if they help CD-Quality FLACs. I'll take a look but not sure if the DSEE one will have what I'm asking about.
Thanks,

Here is one you won't see to often...I have an android tv stick using bluetooth to link to an external portable speaker...when playing music it's pretty bass heavy...to avoid confrontations with my neighbors as I'm a bit of a night owl I'd like to DECREASE the bass....practically any google article I find is about increasing it. Can someone recommend the simplest preferably free method to tune the bass down?
Hmm I thought i was in Q&A when I keyed this in. Mod's feel free to rap me on the knuckles and move.

Hi famewolf
here is one solution... if you use spotify you can lower the bass on the setting menu, spotify has a equalizer. if not i think you can try installing a app that allows you to do that.
Regards.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up installing DSP Manager (from cyanogenmod...there is a version on xda that works on all roms) to the android tv stick and using it's bass reducer preset. Worked like a champ for pandora and plex.

Great !!
From my point of view, viper 4 android is the best option. However, a bit of work must be done but worth the matter.

I'm guessing you're using the Idol 3, if so, you can turn off the JBL Audio equalizer in the audio settings. It's not much but it definitely lowers bass.
