just downloaded the trial version of this app.....gotta say i'm impressed!
EQ function alone makes it worthwhile...more testing to come

the is the best proffesional looking Music player .. prev used astro player .. it was nice , this is the awesome... feels good and solid
made into my main music player .. especially the EQ are great with around 16 bands ?

I totally agree. PowerAMP is the best music player I've tried on android. I used Mixzing back on 1.6 and it wasn't bad, but this is damn good player I have owned two SonyEricssons before and they both were Walkmans, so I'm used to have a phone producing good sound. Finally, my X10 does it as well

Yep, i come from mixzing too.
PowerAMP is top app.
Winamp is just a kid compared with PowerAMP

I also was a fan of Mixzing, but must say that Poweramp looks even better.
However, there is one thing that is not to my taste and those are the widgets.
In Mixzing, I have a full screen widget and a full screen lockscreen. Poweramp only has the 4x1 or 4x2.
If there was a full-screen version of the widget, then this would be damn perfect.

I agree, best music app. However I just can't get the X10 to produce sound as good as I expect. I was hoping 2.1 might lead me to a better sound. I have an iPod nano and it just plays louder, with better sound quality/clarity. Anyone else notice this? Maybe I just have a bunk phone.
When you listen to metal, you want it loud and clear. I may be destroying my ears, but at least its epically brutal.

I think this app is fine, but I just wonder why yiu have to change to lockscreen when the widget doesnt cover the whole screen, might just as well put the normal lockscreen beneath it. How freaking loud do you want it?!

It's not really that it needs to get much louder but when it is at max volume I can hear noticeable distortion. Guitar notes and cymbal crashes turn into a mash of static and sandpaper, when using the same headphones (shure se115s) on the nano at higher volume produces a clearer, richer sound.
Anyway sorry for straying off topic, if it weren't for my issues I would be all over this app all the time. It looks the best, it has the nicest features and i'm glad the lock screen widget doesn't make you unlock with that, then revert to the standard unlock like other apps did on 1.6.

Now that you mention that, I remember hearing distortions and some breaking sound on certain tracks on 1.6. It didnt seem to be on all tracks but just some of em.

Nothing worth getting last time I looked/heard... 2.2 is supposed to have vastly improved audio abilities that will make it possible to do this much easier and better than is currently supported.

cool thnx any idea when 2.2 comes out? when I update to 2.2 will it do anything to my device if it's unlocked or rooted?
I found this even though it costs 30 dollars which I would never personally buy, but maybe someone reading this might.

@OP - The Nexus One just has bad bass control, I don't think EQing is going to help it much I'm afraid.

PowerAMP Music Player – The BEST Android Music Player?

I’ll be honest, I had kind of given up on finding a good replacement for the stock Android music player. There just wasn’t one that made that much of an improvement that I wanted to bother with an additional app, changing default settings, and mess with more widgets. That was until PowerAMP was released this past week. PowerAMP is the music player we’ve all been waiting for (at least the musicheads among us) and puts your Android phone into legitimate mp3 player status. With more settings than you could poke a stick at, PowerAmp gives you full control of your settings, lockscreen, equalizer, and music library without being too overwhelming.
Check out my video walkthrough of PowerAMP. What do yall think?
I just switched to it this week and don't plan on going back.
how is it for battery? if you close it with task manager it will open itself back up
I really like it but dont need it sucking battery life in background when not needed

Well first of all, I never use task managers, but thats a whole different discussion
I didn't see any change in battery life from using it. I don't think it really drains much in the background.
I think I still prefer Winamp, but will continue checking it out as they update it.
will give it a try
It does not suck battery and I agree that it is by far the most complete music app. Plays all my file types. Actually finds all my files properly and has an eq. It also has a nice ui! I couldn't be happier. It's the only app i've really been wanting to pay for.
Sent from the void...
Finally a music app with a great EQ
now i can really feeeeel the bass!
I've been happy with it. Definitely the most complete player out there. The only other thing I would like to see in it is a Sleep Timer function.
I've been pushing this app since it was in beta. I am an audiophile and the difference in this and all the others sound wise is night and day. Amazing what some of the devs. come up with. Those having problems with the sound need to tweak it with a good set of headphones or speakers. If you push pre-amp or eq settings too high, you will get distortion.
just bought the trial remover...this is the best player I have had the pleasure to try and plan on keeping it!!
I have that Sprint extended battery and was playing music with it for a few hours, battery life didnt take that much of a hit tbh
Just payed for it, happily.

Yeah i posted this puppy hear last month the weekend the original beta dropped with the youtube preview. A lot of people were trying to debate about mixzing and this app. IMO its got better UI and the lockscreen control, crazy, full album art, switch between folders and easy navigate. i think its gonna be a more feature rich player and considering its still coming out of beta, it should be good coming in more features that are needed and not excessive garbage.

I used it for a while, but didn't like the way it stayed open in the background. It's a great music player, and I may go back to it one day, but I'm sticking with Winamp for now.

Music Player

I noticed in a Gingerbread video by Google, they were talking about Open Media and it's ability to easily have an EQ. Does this exist on the Nexus S's music player? If not, what are they waiting for.
They should just help out the dude making PowerAMP if not, I love that app but it sucks up too much battery with the EQ on.

That's exactly what they did it seems.
I did install Cyanogen on my N1 last night. Though I think my fully stock G2 is a leap ahead of it still in terms of display and speed, I love the DSP Manager addition.
Google needs to put some version of that into their OS. At least in the capacity of having different settings for headset, bluetooth, and speaker that are just presets like Rock, Pop, Dance, Classical, Spoken Word, etc...
Hopefully we'll see something in the next Gingerbread release, but somehow I doubt it.

Any Good Music Player Apps?

I am looking for a music player with a good graphical equalizer. I have yet to find one that works without flaws...
(Running MIUI ROM)
MIUI stock music player:
Sounds good, equalizer is satisfactory, but you can't tell it what folder to pull music from. It just reads the whole phone. It has a setting that you specify minimum file size for, but that's crap. Should be able to just tell it where to find music and only load that music... It also skips/cuts off etc A LOT!
PlayerPro:
This player has a really crappy equalizer. The only positive I can think of about this app is the ability to use SRS enhancement in HTC phones that have it. This one skips/cuts out music more than any other app I have tried. No matter what happens, screen turns off, like 5-20 rapid cutouts. Quality of playback is poor. Accessing certain features are a pain and needs to be able to be accessed from Menu button while in the player, not just the main screen. But the cutouts for anything happening to the phone, browsing for the next song, volume up/down. Minimizing, screen on off. Huge/a lot of cutouts in playback.
PowerAMP:
This was probably one of the better apps. Great equalizer, very direct navigation to whatever you need. But this player also suffers from the cutouts when locking/unlocking or interacting with the phone. This app does have that Buffer setting, but even set to huge (725ms) it still suffers from these cutouts. And the update that came out today.. well that just screwed it up even more...
UberMusic:
Smooth, looks pretty, can tell it's a complete rip from Zune so I know how to navigate it at least. Cutouts while navigating the phone weren't nearly as bad, or didn't happen. The problem with this app is that it doens't have an equalizer. I googled, and found out that Fede (many may know him from that scam app LPP) promised to implement an equalizer. That same dev also promised a re-write of LPP be the end of 2010 and look where LPP is at.. completely abandoned for this music app. With that history I won't buy his music app until the equalizer is implemented. But based on what he's shown with LPP I don't see that happening for 932750923 years.
WinAmp:
Loved it on my computers since middle school... But for the phone, the cut-outs are almost as bad as PlayerPro, and it also has a pretty crappy equalizer.
Anybody else know of a good/smooth music app, with no cutouts in music playback and a good equalizer?
Thanks!

have you tried any of those one a Non MIUI rom? Reason I ask is that there is APP issues with any and all CM based roms including MIUI. Main reasin I ask is I do not have this problem with any of the music apps you mentioned, short of the MIUI as I have never used it and never will.
I only used LeeDroid prior to flashing MIUI and the stock (Sense) player did everything I needed it to without problems.
I guess it's possible this is a MIUI problem. Such a shame... smoothest/fastest and most customizeable ROM I've ever had on a phone.

I use powerAMP and have used prolly every rom made for the inspire. With a few exceptions. I don't have your issues. ./shrug
As for Your Miui claim, You have only used Leedriod and Miui. You may want to check out a few other roms. You claim fastest smoothest and have only tried two things.
Thats alot like claiming MCdonalds is the best berger when you have only tried MCdonalds and Burgerking.
Truthfully there are alot of burgers out there and you would be "missing" out.
FYI MIUI is not the fastest/smoothest.....lol
I used many ROMs on other devices. Tried MIUI back then and it was also the smoothest for me there, just couldn't deal with the facebook issues, the camera issues, the GPS issues etc etc it had at the time.
Can you recommend another ROM that's as small and fast/smooth as MIUI?

If the reason really is due to MIUI being based on CM7, then I think this ROM would give me the same result, no?
I'm willing to give it a shot this weekend though. I don't see any screen shots in the thread for the ROM though, (and no place holders like I get from blocked content [at work, ha ha] like other pictures) could you post an SS of the notification pull down? I've grown to really like the 2 page system on MIUI...

I am currently using whats in my sig. And I don't have the issues you are having. With the music player. (power Amp)
Its also better, IMHO then MIUI. Its got just as many if not more customization options and you don't have to look at an IPHONE want-to-be interface.
I Also found Gingerbeast to be great and then Ninja. Granted I only like AOSP roms for the most part.
I have never had GPS or Facebook issues on any rom I have used. Can't say about the camera apps as I am not into pictures. Don't use it at all.
Thanks tweaked.
So music playback is smooth/continues even when you lock/unlock or launch an app etc?
And can you tell me if the notification pulldown has the 2nd page for toggles?
Yea, I really did not like the iPhone wannabe launcher either, but I use an alternative launcher...

Sir, Download and flash Absolution. You will be amazed.
The pull down does not have the 2nd page for toggles. But you can add as many toggles as you like to the top.
I just tested it and it does not Glitch when I lock and unlock the phone. Even on Bluetooth.
All this tho and I bet the issue isn't the rom you are using. You prolly just need a full reset. I have found that sometimes I just have to Completely Wipe the phone and then install from scratch to get rid of little annoyances that pop up. I used Miui for about 2 weeks and never noticed what you are experiencing.

Well, MIUI is based on CM7; I'm having this exact problem with CM7 (latest build). As a matter of fact, I've always had this issue, and it's very annoying. I also have a problem with the sound cutting to mono when listening on a headset, and it's highly irritating, because the only way to fix it is to unplug and replug the headphones.
I wonder if a full clean wipe will fix this. I'm really thinking about giving it a shot, but the issue is that I'm going to be stuck with one of two options: either a Sense ROM or a CM7 ROM. I really love CM7, and have no other issues with it than this, so I'm wondering if it is indeed worth it to switch to a Sense based ROM.
I know I won't be going back to sense.
Think I'll just gu buy an MP3 player if it comes down to that.

Headphone Amp Software

I love the Voodoo headphone amp as it boosts the headphone output to a decent level, but installing voodoo sounds has its problems on ICS with calls, etc and all the know bugs. Is there a headphone amp app or widget or something? Best I've found is to make a preset EQ with everything boosted but this affects sound more than Supercurio's work on the Wolfman chip and enabling the headphone boosts.
Jetaudio is the player I've been using on my other phone. Get it from play store. Once you have it go to EQ and look at the top. There is a built in preamp. Slide the bar to 10 and watch your ears bleed. It is by far the best free player that I've used.

I'll give Jet a try myself.
Not to hijack, if anyone knows of dev info on compiling new codecs for Android, would you PM me? The lack of Apple lossless keeps me from using my phone for music.
Posted from my SGS4G, thanks to Team Acid development

Can you really tell the difference between lossless and compressed? I've tried with some really good earbuds and it's super hard for me to tell. Try talking some albums that you know really well and converting them to mp3 at 224. If you can tell the difference from the phone I'd be amazed.

Yeah, I use Grado cans and anything below 512 kbps is like nails on a chalkboard to me. My library is all Apple lossless at this point and transcoding on the fly is a complexity I'd rather not deal with.
Edit -- Switching to IEMs has made anything compressed even at 512 kbps rather painful. As full-rate Apple Lossless or Flac is typically around 800-1000 kbps, at least for me, there isn't any meaningful gain for the pain.
jetAudio does support Apple Lossless now, and doesn't have the gaps between tracks that used to plague older Android players. It's got it's own usability issues, but it does a decent job.
Now if I can figure out why Voodoo Sound occasionally stops working for me to control amp gain so I can keep the digital gain maxed out.

Since I stopped using my 4g as a phone and just use it as a music player voodoo sounds has worked all the time every time. I think receiving phone calls might be what is causing it to stop working. I few others have reported the same. Something to take a look at at least. If your using jet it has it's own built in pre amp that works well.
I think that maxed out issue you are talking about is a setting in voodoo app causes the db keep going up

I seem to be finding that either placing or receiving a call "disconnects" Voodoo Sound from the analog gain.
The preamp control in jetAudio is a little different -- Voodoo has the benefit of keeping the digital gain as high as possible and just using the audio gain, which should improve sound quality by keeping digitization noise lower.
I have logs for that i go on wheresmycellphone.com and call my phone run logocat right before the call. No one has provided logs yet ? There seems to be dual speaker mode thats changed and an audio route problem. Do u want me to up logs. Does voodoo work on any of ics roms with just dsp manager and how do u tell if it is working really. I think the tv out driver plays a slight role as well there is bluetooth sharing enabled during call when headset not being used or anything.

I bet you still listen to vinyl don't you. LOL I see your point for sure but on my earbuds I can't tell the difference. As long as it's loud and clear and loud it's good enough for me.
I do. And on audiophile the dsp manager says does not work with hardware on last tab to the right
