[Q] Dolby Mobile? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I've seen some threads in the International HOX forum, as well as a new ROM in our forum that support Dolby Mobile.
I'm on Cleanrom, and I don't really want to switch ROMS for an audio effect. I'm definitely curious though.
How can I flash Dolby Mobile onto my HOX without any ROM changes?
What about ALSA? I know MixGet is on the play store, but does it work for anyone?

I mean heres the apk. IMO its just another gimmick like beats. Its just a different equalizer. Seriously just use poweramp or playerpro or even the equalizer app from the play store and set your settings according to your preference. Surround sound is not possible through a 3.5mm stereo jack. At best, you will get virtual surround sound which distorts or incorrectly balances sounds.
Thats my opinion. But you are better off sending a PM to XsMagical and ask him about it since he ported the ROM that contains it.

Yup that I know, a gimmick it is for sure. I wish the HOX had a wolfson dac, or a voodoo-like hack of some sort. Driving larger headphones with higher impendence doesn't quite work well here.
Right now I'm using Google music with DSP manager. I'll occasionally leave beats on while at the gym for the fun of it, usually I'm only using an equalizer though. I just wanted to hear what Dolby could do, never tried it before in my life lol.

Headphone Amp Software

I love the Voodoo headphone amp as it boosts the headphone output to a decent level, but installing voodoo sounds has its problems on ICS with calls, etc and all the know bugs. Is there a headphone amp app or widget or something? Best I've found is to make a preset EQ with everything boosted but this affects sound more than Supercurio's work on the Wolfman chip and enabling the headphone boosts.
Jetaudio is the player I've been using on my other phone. Get it from play store. Once you have it go to EQ and look at the top. There is a built in preamp. Slide the bar to 10 and watch your ears bleed. It is by far the best free player that I've used.

Actually thank eollie. I'm pretty sure he's the one that let me know about it. Well it was either him or Lumin. Hard to tell the other members of TFTN apart anymore. lol
I'll give Jet a try myself.
Not to hijack, if anyone knows of dev info on compiling new codecs for Android, would you PM me? The lack of Apple lossless keeps me from using my phone for music.
Posted from my SGS4G, thanks to Team Acid development

Can you really tell the difference between lossless and compressed? I've tried with some really good earbuds and it's super hard for me to tell. Try talking some albums that you know really well and converting them to mp3 at 224. If you can tell the difference from the phone I'd be amazed.

Yeah, I use Grado cans and anything below 512 kbps is like nails on a chalkboard to me. My library is all Apple lossless at this point and transcoding on the fly is a complexity I'd rather not deal with.
Edit -- Switching to IEMs has made anything compressed even at 512 kbps rather painful. As full-rate Apple Lossless or Flac is typically around 800-1000 kbps, at least for me, there isn't any meaningful gain for the pain.
jetAudio does support Apple Lossless now, and doesn't have the gaps between tracks that used to plague older Android players. It's got it's own usability issues, but it does a decent job.
Now if I can figure out why Voodoo Sound occasionally stops working for me to control amp gain so I can keep the digital gain maxed out.

Since I stopped using my 4g as a phone and just use it as a music player voodoo sounds has worked all the time every time. I think receiving phone calls might be what is causing it to stop working. I few others have reported the same. Something to take a look at at least. If your using jet it has it's own built in pre amp that works well.
I think that maxed out issue you are talking about is a setting in voodoo app causes the db keep going up

I seem to be finding that either placing or receiving a call "disconnects" Voodoo Sound from the analog gain.
The preamp control in jetAudio is a little different -- Voodoo has the benefit of keeping the digital gain as high as possible and just using the audio gain, which should improve sound quality by keeping digitization noise lower.
I have logs for that i go on wheresmycellphone.com and call my phone run logocat right before the call. No one has provided logs yet ? There seems to be dual speaker mode thats changed and an audio route problem. Do u want me to up logs. Does voodoo work on any of ics roms with just dsp manager and how do u tell if it is working really. I think the tv out driver plays a slight role as well there is bluetooth sharing enabled during call when headset not being used or anything.

I bet you still listen to vinyl don't you. LOL I see your point for sure but on my earbuds I can't tell the difference. As long as it's loud and clear and loud it's good enough for me.

Porting Beats Audio, xLoud and Bravia Engine for Atrix 2?

Hi,
Some people have ported Beats Audio, xLoud and Mobile Bravia Engine to several of the android phones.
Is it possible to port it to Atrix 2?
Will it really increase the performance?
There are several methods available online..
(A simple google search will show the results... I am not able to post the links as i am a new member)
Have anyone tried it??
Any senior members willing to try this?
-----------------------
P.S:- This is not a Q&A post.. This is meant for discussion of a general topic.

I have installed Beats Audio and it works fine, yes it does increase audio performance. To install Beats Audio you need to root your phone.
I haven't tried xloud and bravia, so I cant comment on that.

For the love of everything even remotely good in life, do not do this. Beats audio and really any other mod are TERRIBLE and degrade audio quality. if what you want is something that drives the base hard and washes everything else out, I suppose it does a damn good job, but it kills audio quality. If you want good performance, buy some decent headphones, nothing less than $100 or so, but you don't need anything crazy, and get a good player with an equalizer like poweramp.

I have never used it, but obviously none of these can change the hardware of the phone, they are basically fancy equalizers. All equipment is different, and that is the main point to equalizers (not to adjust sound for the type of music, the recordings are mixed how the producer intended, but to adjust for different listening hardware. for example, small headphones often need more bass volume to sound good, while large speakers might lack on the low to mid end.) That said, some of these enhancements might improve quality on the device they are intended for, as they can change what is needed to get good sound there.
You can try any of these, and see what you think, as everyone has different tastes, but to get the best quality sound, I would still recommend high quality listening gear, and a good equalizer you can play with to get the sound you want.
I mostly listen with ER6i in ear headphones, which are noise isolating (not electronic canceling), so they block a lot of sound, and have really good quality for in ear headphones. They don't make the same ones any more, but they were around $100, so I'm sure there is a replacement model. I use Poweramp as my player, and it has a 10 band EQ that I tweaked for my headphones to sound best.
Well i have installed all of these and my audio is better..performance is better. From my point of view..it doesnt hurt anything.

Shame on you! Difference of opinion I guess, but my guess is it is still the same as the tv store effect. the brighter the better seeming at fist glance.
Anyways, always feel free to try things out, but make sure you know how to remove them. I made a beats remover that is in the general section somewhere, but they might have updated since then, so no guaranty that it will work.
Beats audio thing was just a screw up. It made the audio quality bad for me. I tried Acid audio engine which worked fine. It did boost the audio quality for me a lil bit !

Kernels

Hello guys I am just coming from s3 lte. And I got a question because on my s3 I used to use boeffla kernel + cm11. Ofcourse I am gona use xm11 on my nexus 5 too but here comes the question. Do you know any kernels for nexus 5 which are similar to the boeffla one? ( boeffla sound has the best equalizer I have ever been using on my phone) Big thanks.

You can only use kernels that are CAF based like Elemental, Chaos and maybe others. Don't flash AOSP kernels with CM11. For sound control you may look at Viper4android or something like that. Check if it is compatible with CM11.

Yeah definitely use viper over any kernel sound mods

I might have different opinion on Viper4Android. IMO, Nexus 5 soundchip is already awesome as it is and doesn't need V4A. I think what you need is a proper music player (i use poweramp myself which is very good for me) as the play music has crappy equalizer (shame though, a very nice interface)
IMHO, V4A sound effects are gimmicks and doesn't really give you the true performance of your soundchip. Don't get me wrong, i've tried V4A before because i think the Play Music sound quality is ugly, but then i didn't know that the phone itself is really great at producing high bitrate music (great also on flac). After i tried poweramp, i realized that V4A is just gimmick sound effect, not the true sound.
Again, every person's ear is different, you might have different opinion on V4A.
Give it a try and you'll know it yourself.

Actually there are effects in v4a but the main thing is being able to increase the sampling rate. I'm sorry to say but Poweramp with v4a is better than poweramp without v4a.
Maybe you misunderstand v4a.

Try it.
The DAC we have is good, but it's not as clear as it could be.
I think you'll struggle to match the Wolfson DAC in recent Galaxy phones, especially when used with the DAC Direct option in Boeffla or VooDoo Sound.
Coming from a Note 2, sound quality is the first thing I noticed the N5 was lacking in. Not by much, but still noticeable. Also, if you use decent Bluetooth headphones then you may notice even worse quality as the N5 doesn't support the APT-X codec (obviously the headphones need to support this too).
I'm a long-time PowerAmp user but have only just got my N5 set-up with a custom ROM so still need to test out Viper.

Its an equalizer setting to (theoretically) make the speakers sound much better. Harmon Kardon is a high end speaker maker. It essentially does the same thing as the Beats did last year.

We can get it if we change the false setting in the default xml in the system to true BUT it don't think it will effect sound due to not having the libs for it.

They might have been, at one time (debatable). But, HK does nothing but buy other companies any more. They don't develop much of anything, themselves. The bulk of their branding is for high profit margin products like car audio and licensing of mass-consumer level audio tech.
You'd do better with Viper. Almost anything is better than the pre-installed audio enhancements, whether it's Beats, Harman, or whatever.
ive also read it may just be a software thing and not difference in hardware.
do you think viper is significantly better than the boomsound already on the phone?

Viper4Android is a great mod don't get me wrong, a lot went into making this! Personally though after playing with it for literally hours in my car streaming music via BT, i couldn't get 1 setting that i felt was better than stock. Same with "Boomsound" for the external speakers. I'm completely happy with the stock "equalizer" personally. Don't see what this HK equalizer will bring to the table, i bet nothing special. I think HTC actually put a lot of time and energy into their equalizer knowing that Beats left them and this is their next big device since Beats left so they had to make it just as good if not better. I feel they've made it just as good if not better on this device :highfive:

Its definitely just an equalizer setting. They wouldn't have developed entirely different speakers for a carrier variant. Its the same thing as the Beats integration last year, which has now been replaced by BoomSound.

Question No root V4A alternative?

Sorry if this has been asked, I'm not on here much. Anyway, what's a good alternative to viper 4 Android? I've been on rooted pixels for years, so I really don't know what's best without root. I'm currently using Poweramp equalizer, and that definitely helps with the sound quality. But it doesn't match v4a.
Thanks!

v4a needs to be upgraded to fix original a12 device issues and I'm still believe they are developing updates, I've tried with wavelet, it couldn't be compared with v4a , I mean v4a is much more better than wavelet from my experience

Because it is almost as no equilizer at all snd v4a seems 1000 times better in its volume improvement, clear highs and powerful bass.

I use it for Bluetooth. Works very well for my car and home audio. I listen to a lot of podcast through the phone speaker and it works very well with the volume Booster that also works for calls over phone speaker
The best way and an alternative for me is VLC media player. I think it's better than V4A. It has really very very punchy and deeep basses, crisp and clear mids and highs. You must check before the equalizer. The downside is that, that i'm not able to stream content from the internet. Need some help, if it possible. Give it a try and have a great time!
Edit: Im using Jabra Elite 75t
I use Poweramp Eq, it´s paid, but not expensive. It process almost system wide like v4a, but you need to run an adb command. It also has a parametric eq, so you can set any band as you want, you can adjust frecuency, quality, gain and type of filer. I have the eq exactly the same as peace eq in my PC for my earphones
@nobrain3000 @danvrez players are not a good option because you won't be able to use Spotify, Youtube or any app that's not the player.
I wasn't using wavelet with it's full potential because I had the free version. Got the paid one and now I can customize bass. While the sound got better, V4A bass (and mids and highs) are way cleaner.
