What are you using to stream tv shows / movies? - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello,
Recently came across XBMC for streaming media content. Works pretty good on the TF700. Just wondering what everyone is using these days for their movie/tv show streaming?

I use FX file explorer to get to the file then MX player to stream.
I would prefer xbmc if it wasn't a battery hog and had a way to prevent inadvertent screen touches. MX player has that feature.
You can't know your limits until you exceed them.

I use Plex and the usual steaming apps like Netflix, Hulu and Crackle.

BS player is a pretty good choice for streaming via local media server.

es file exlorer - fav free
or
fx file explorer - fav $
with
dice player - fav & free ...

AW: What are you using to stream tv shows / movies?
i have PC with SageTV running as central TVServer for recordings.
Unfortunately those recordings are stored with strange naming-convention and are spread over several drives and folders. This makes it quite complicated to stream seamless.
So there are two ways i use to watch those TVrecordings to my TF700
1. use SageTV-app for android to browse & download and then play with MXPlayer
2. use splashtopHD to connect on the serverdesktop and directly stream the remote-desktop. That works pretty well in good quality and without stuttering if wifi-connection is in good shape.
I have also tried plex-server and android-client, but i donĀ“t like the android-client of plex
Watching live-tv is done using Dreambox with enigma2 and approprite android-app to browse epg & stream.

I am using a straight SMB share from windows, bsplayer gives me smooth play with a 10GB+ BRrip. May have something to do with my beam steering wifi router, but I get great, smooth video on wifi.

[Q] Can't play video files stored on PC from Transformer

Hallo,
I'm trying to play video files (mp4) stored on my PCs with the stock app my-net.
I can see the PCs connected to the network (and even watch pictures) but I can't see movie list (and so, I cant play them).
Any idea? what I'm doing wrong?
I don't know why you can't see the videos, but I never had any luck trying to play videos over MyNet. If you want to stream videos to your TF, you might have to use that Plex app.
After repeatedly being frustrated with not being to play high profile MKV's and not getting subtitles with Plex, this is my solution to playing every single type of video that your PC can play.
Go to "MyCloud" app the specific program you want to use is the "MyDesktop" or splashtop. Go to the Asus web-site and go to the Eeepad support page. Download splashtop remote-desktop to your home PC and set it up. Go back to your transformer and set up the "MyDesktop" with your PC's IP and password information.
Remote desktop to your PC from your transformer. On my home network I am able to basically remote to my PC and play any video lag free. I know this is not a "streaming video" solution but this is the 100% surefire way to play everything you have. Hope this helps.
Mmm, that doesn't reallyhelp if one has a dnla enabled NAS.
I'm reallydisappointed by the videosupport on the transformer, my galaxy s2 does much better...

Upnplay and rockplayer. I can now access and watch (perfectly) all my divx collection on my nas drive
There is a very similar thread in the general section with more details.
1. Install upnplay (free)
2. Install moboplayer (free)
3. Install tegra packaged codecs for moboplayer to play almost every type of video file (free)
4. Profit!!! (not free)

[Q] How to play media over network on stock unit?

Are there any tricks to this that don't require me to copy the file? I found a file explorer that lets me mount network drives from my NAS, but I cannot run the avi/mkv from there.
Anyone got some good pointers, or even better - a step by step for new owners ?
Cheers!
try es file explorer

That's the one I use for mounting the drive. Tried clicking, double-clicking, tapping, tapping it like I would tap a boy trying to date my daughter etc etc. Nothing happened...
I can play movies through that and it loads them in dice player. That's files off my shared folder on laptop on same LAN.

I got sick of trying to get high def/720p content to play over my network without lag (or even play off SD). So I bought Splashtop Streamer (the tablet version) which is a remote connection app that has the unique ability to stream at almost a full 30fps without lag, including sound. So then I just start a show/movie on my desktop, connect in, and watch it. Almost lag free. Hiccup every now and again but its pretty smooth overall. Highly recommend it.

This. Navigate to the folder, press and hold on the selected file, open as, video, and select a player such as mobo or dice.

I've got VLC setup on my server, running in HTTP server mode, and I'm using VLC Direct (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vlcdirect.vlcdirect&hl=en). Works very well, and no copying is required. As an added bonus, you can use it in Remote Mode as well (not just streaming, which for all intents and purposes requires the pro version).
Thanks, guys! Got avis playing fine, and I even got mkv opened with another player. The mkv must have too high profile or something as it wasn't even stuttering (the image switched every ten seconds, so 6 images in the sound and video had a one minute lag ) even thouh the DTS sound worked fine
Will the VLC server downscale on-the-fly? Are there any options to do this? One of the major reasons for buying this was to watch movies in bed - or on the plane.
Are there any programs that will downscale movies to play well wit the Transformer?

I'd use one of the DLNA apps, such as Twonkey or Skifta. You may need a decent DLNA player - I use BubbleUPnP player combined with Dice Player for video. If your media is hosted on the PC then you won't need a server as it's all built in to Windows.
So far the set-up above (Skifta / BubbleUPnP / Dice) works really well for me allowing such fancy operation as playing a video on my pc that's stored on the Transformer using my HTC Desire to control the whole thing.
The transformer does have a UPnP server built in but I didn't get on with it at all.
DLNA / UPnP is, IMO, the way to go.
@ mace
how do you setup the upnp server on your PC? I tried using BubbleUPnP on my TF, it can detect some music on my PC but most can't play. Thanks

dice player, mx video player or bs player lite work with downloaded flv's.
Imediashare, there is no transformer version in the market, but you can extract this app from android phone. Works great.
This is not a free or super cheap solution but it is Awesome:
I use Cyberlink`s PowerDVD 11 Ultra on my Win7 PC (which is connected to my 42" Plasma TV), PowerDVD Mobile on My Asus Transformer Tablet. and PowerDVD Remote on my HTC Incredibe (Android Phone). All devices connect seamlessly so you can easily share, play and download media across different platforms.
First off... Power DVD 11 Ultra is simply superb for playing any video file, DVD, or Blue-Ray Disc on your PC.
Then I use the PowerDVD Remote on my Android Phone to command PowerDVD 11 Ultra via WiFi Router.
Then I Can Stream Music and Video to My Tablet using PowerDVD Mobile.
Plus a lot more features.. to many to list (I hate typing..lol)
Go to the Cyberlink website and check it out.. but search the web to save a lot of money if you decide to buy it.. I noticed that the "eCrater" website is selling PowerDVD 11 Ultra "by Cyberlink" (for PC) for $29.99.. I paid more a few months back.
Once you have PowerDVD 11 "Ultra" you can download PowerDVD Mobile and PowerDVD Remote for Free via the Google App Store.
Try weezo 3.0 : Photos, Music, Video, TV streaming from your windows PC to your transformer, remote admin, and a lot more :It's a free App and you have nothing to install on your TF101 !
Android support is new with the 3.0 release, a few bugs left but really awsome !

Streaming video

Is there a way to stream video from a pc to the transformer? Using something like ps3 media server?
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
Being lazy I just play it on the PC and use SplashTop via MyCloud->My Desktop to watch it from my TV, or I will play locally using a file or mount (SMB/CIFS/SSHFS).
Past that, you should probably look in the MARKET for client software to deal with what your server software uses. If you don't know what the server software is, you should find out first .

SMB share and BSPlayer.
Works a great.
Look into Zumocast - there is a version that works on the Transformer floating around... Allows you watch videos, play music and just transfer files from a remote PC over the internet... Works great!
I use upnplayer and moboplayer to stream vid from my ps3 media server.
Works amazingly well and smooth.
Ill try those thanks

Thanks angry those apps worked awesome.

best streaming apps i have found so far are EMIT and PLEX. note that when you want to stream 720p you need a good wireless N signal.

How to play this file on TF101 or any other Android device?

I can't seem to figure out how to play the following stream on my transformer? I tried BS player as well as stock browser and dolphin for pad.

Hi, this is an ASF stream (Windows Media Video 9 - WMV3). On your PC try to save it (stream it) to a file with Videolan etc. and then (re)encode it with Mediacoder, HandBrake etc (DVD Catalyst has presets for Android devices including Transformer but it's not free). Good luck.
Agreeing with above, and adding that IMO Handbrake is your best bet. Encode the file as MKV. Android can play MKV files natively.
Thanks guys but what if it was a live streaming?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
i use download helper to make a copy of live recordings on my pc then do the conversion later using what ever program you like.
have you tried Tunein Radio app? it's a player for online radios, and I use it to listen to a Radio I like that broadcasts in Windows Media format (at least for it's desktop edition).
Its a video file though

Is that link still active?
Try the streaming on yxplayer... and tell us if it works
have you tried using remote desktop and have it stream while you view your desktop?
