I'd use one of the DLNA apps, such as Twonkey or Skifta. You may need a decent DLNA player - I use BubbleUPnP player combined with Dice Player for video. If your media is hosted on the PC then you won't need a server as it's all built in to Windows.
So far the set-up above (Skifta / BubbleUPnP / Dice) works really well for me allowing such fancy operation as playing a video on my pc that's stored on the Transformer using my HTC Desire to control the whole thing.
The transformer does have a UPnP server built in but I didn't get on with it at all.
DLNA / UPnP is, IMO, the way to go.

@ mace
how do you setup the upnp server on your PC? I tried using BubbleUPnP on my TF, it can detect some music on my PC but most can't play. Thanks

Do you know of an app that plays FLV on Asus?

Maybe Flash player in the web browser?

dice player, mx video player or bs player lite work with downloaded flv's.

Imediashare, there is no transformer version in the market, but you can extract this app from android phone. Works great.

This is not a free or super cheap solution but it is Awesome:
I use Cyberlink`s PowerDVD 11 Ultra on my Win7 PC (which is connected to my 42" Plasma TV), PowerDVD Mobile on My Asus Transformer Tablet. and PowerDVD Remote on my HTC Incredibe (Android Phone). All devices connect seamlessly so you can easily share, play and download media across different platforms.
First off... Power DVD 11 Ultra is simply superb for playing any video file, DVD, or Blue-Ray Disc on your PC.
Then I use the PowerDVD Remote on my Android Phone to command PowerDVD 11 Ultra via WiFi Router.
Then I Can Stream Music and Video to My Tablet using PowerDVD Mobile.
Plus a lot more features.. to many to list (I hate typing..lol)
Go to the Cyberlink website and check it out.. but search the web to save a lot of money if you decide to buy it.. I noticed that the "eCrater" website is selling PowerDVD 11 Ultra "by Cyberlink" (for PC) for $29.99.. I paid more a few months back.
Once you have PowerDVD 11 "Ultra" you can download PowerDVD Mobile and PowerDVD Remote for Free via the Google App Store.

Try weezo 3.0 : Photos, Music, Video, TV streaming from your windows PC to your transformer, remote admin, and a lot more :It's a free App and you have nothing to install on your TF101 !
Android support is new with the 3.0 release, a few bugs left but really awsome !

[Q] DLNA Player?

Is there currently a DLNA / UPNP PLAYER (going from a server to the phone.... not the other way around) for Android?
I believe the Galaxy S phones were supposed to have one? If so, did anyone extract them?
I also would like to know if something like this is available. I can play back mp3 and jpg on my Desire HD, but not video files.
My GT-I9000 Galaxy has a program called AllShare. I just use Media player 12 on my WiN7 machine and it allows me to stream to AllShare. I can play divx movies, tv series, and other videos just fine off my home wifi network.
Gmote for audio works great.
I was looking for more for the video option. I have a ton of divx / xvid on my server.
When I use astro with the smb addon..... I can search the server but then I get an error when Rockplayer tries to play it.
estrongs isn't able to let me login for some reason.
But since my NAS has dlna and upnp I'm just looking for a simple player or app that can search dlna.
I've been looking for an app of this nature for over a year. Still no luck. I would guess that the developers that would be closest to being able to get this going would be one of the video player developers such as Rockplayer or Vplayer alpha. They've already got multi format playback for videos. Now if only they could playback these formats as a stream from dlna/upnp.........
Bumping. With the release of android based tablets dnla / upnp video players are going to be a huge win.
Anyone with a good answer?
Skifta?

I agree, AllShare works great with my Samsung TV and my laptop being the server with all the video files. My laptop has ubuntu with MiniDLNA as the server. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732005 has a link to dlna.apk (which is allshare) weird thing is all the permissions it asks for when installing :/ even wants access to SMS which i thought was weird
for video try http://www.appbrain.com/app/vlc-stream-convert/com.gmail.traveldevel.android.vlc.app with vlc on your pc
if you want only music http://www.appbrain.com/app/twonky-mobile-free/com.pv.twonkyremote works nicely with windows media player library shararing on local network
i've been searching for a good solution for a long time now. I have an ampache server setup now but its cumbersome, none of the ampache apps on android are that great.
Does twonky work over the internet?
no it doesn't but you can smoho get vlc stream and convert working over the internet
The best I have been able to come up with is using UPnP with an app called UPnPlay - in conjunction with VPlayer (which for me is working smoother than Rockplayer).
It's not dlna but it's something.
Sent from my HTC Incredible
iShareMedia
I have played with lots of different dlna players but by FAR.... the best app is called
iMediaShare - it works perfectly with windows 7/XP (windows media player). You can play music and videos that are on your pc on either your PC (using your phone as a remote control) or play them on your phone streaming them from your PC.
Also there are TV channels like Nasa or Youtube you can use your phone as a high tech tv remote.
Amazing!
P.S My frav before this was Twonk
P.P.S My frav phone browser/streamer is 'Browsix' (again AMAZING!)
P.P.P.S my title is not right sorry, it should say IMediaShare

[Q] Can't play video files stored on PC from Transformer

Hallo,
I'm trying to play video files (mp4) stored on my PCs with the stock app my-net.
I can see the PCs connected to the network (and even watch pictures) but I can't see movie list (and so, I cant play them).
Any idea? what I'm doing wrong?
I don't know why you can't see the videos, but I never had any luck trying to play videos over MyNet. If you want to stream videos to your TF, you might have to use that Plex app.
After repeatedly being frustrated with not being to play high profile MKV's and not getting subtitles with Plex, this is my solution to playing every single type of video that your PC can play.
Go to "MyCloud" app the specific program you want to use is the "MyDesktop" or splashtop. Go to the Asus web-site and go to the Eeepad support page. Download splashtop remote-desktop to your home PC and set it up. Go back to your transformer and set up the "MyDesktop" with your PC's IP and password information.
Remote desktop to your PC from your transformer. On my home network I am able to basically remote to my PC and play any video lag free. I know this is not a "streaming video" solution but this is the 100% surefire way to play everything you have. Hope this helps.
Mmm, that doesn't reallyhelp if one has a dnla enabled NAS.
I'm reallydisappointed by the videosupport on the transformer, my galaxy s2 does much better...

Upnplay and rockplayer. I can now access and watch (perfectly) all my divx collection on my nas drive
There is a very similar thread in the general section with more details.
1. Install upnplay (free)
2. Install moboplayer (free)
3. Install tegra packaged codecs for moboplayer to play almost every type of video file (free)
4. Profit!!! (not free)

[Q] DLNA server client for HC 3.1

I have gotten TVersity to work as a server to my transformer running My Net as the client.
I was wondering if there might be a better combination to play my video files on
the transformer?
First try with the keyboard/dock, the delay is driving me nuts.
Luck;
Ken
I use Plex on mine which seems to work well.Coming from an iPad and Air Video this program works well and it says it'll work out of your local network as well on the net, though I haven't tried it yet.
I use PlayOn at home and it will send video to my iPad, TF, PS3, and most other devices. It works great for Netflix for me since we don't have the Netflix app working on the TF.
Edit: I know it is a pay for app, but I've been extremely happy with it.
I find upnplay to be great. Basically it just streams the file into another video application of your choice so it supports whatever your player does. I like moboplayer personally, but to each their own.
Serviio works for me...
Confused
Okay, I'm sorry for the newbie question
But everywhere I go to look for Eee Pad and DLNA related topics, i keep reading about people who stream videos from their PC to the Eee Pad.
but that's not what I want.
What i want is, HOW do I steam a video FROM the Eee Pad to the Television, wirelessly, using DLNA.
what app does that?
I haven't bought a DLNA enabled television yet, but i'm thinking about getting this DLNA streaming client for the TV
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...CODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE
i haven't bought that DLNA client for the tv yet.
because before i buy it, i need to figure out, how can i DLNA stream a video from the tablet to that DLNA client.
if anyone could please tell me which app definitely works for that on the Transformer, i'd be most appreciative, please, and thank you !

Hi Ken,
Maybe my experience will be of any use to you. So here it goes.
I am (also) mainly interested in using the stock player (MyNet) for videos. For various reasons, primarily because of hardware acceleration. Unfortunately Android audio/video codec support is "pathetic" as well as container support. Probably those are choices due to licensing restrictions. If one does not have files in the natively supported format(s) the only option for on-the-fly transcoding is MPEG4/AAC in Transport Stream. WEBM could be a viable option but MyNet has no support for WEBM, sigh. Unfortunately Android explicitly states that transport streams are NON SEEKABLE (even locally).
I have tried: PMS Server, Mezzmo, Isedora, JR Media Center, Plex Media server, TV Mobili, Serviio, Twonky, Wild Media Server. Apart from the fact that some are not free only a few have support for transcoding into H264/AAC. Some are more configurable than others. Some have features that I am not very interested in, like automatic download from the INet of the covers, metadata etc. The ones that I played with the most are:
PMS Server: can't transcode to H264, free, very configurable, stable
Mezzmo: can transcode to H264/AAC, not free, very configurable, has some stability issues
Serviio: can't transcode to H264, free
Wild Media Server: very configurable, can transcode to H264/AAC, stable, very strict licensing (per MAC address of devices)
All of the DLNA servers that I have tried (even the non free ones) use third party FFMPEG or MENCODER for transcoding. And all exhibit a bug when transcoding the audio into AAC - half of the times the audio is transcoded with a very low bitrate (~6kb), despite correct transcoding settings, that MyNet doesn't want to play.
As you can see "native" client support for Android/TF101 is very limited. I have experimented also with transcoding to MPEG2/AC3 or MP3 in Program Stream container (or TS) and using other players (like UPnP + vPlayer). The results seem better but not without issues (sometimes not fluid, sudden closures of the player etc).
Hope it is of any help to you.
Cheers.
ArkMC is working well for me, basically as good as upnp player, lets you choose a 3rd party player to play your media.... but the gui is MUCH nicer than upnp player.

Hello,
I'm using the free application iMediaShare from Bianor available for free in the market.
this application makes me able to stream all the media from my tablet (Asus TF101) but also from my HTC Desire, on my SAMSUNG DLNA compatible TV, with no cables.
It was also possible to stream others media (like youtube directly from the android devise).
hope it was helpful.
PS : My tv is connected directly to my router with Ethernet and my devices connected to the router via WIFI.
can give skifta a try, it's free from the market.

Thanx for the tip, first time that I hear of Arkuda.
Tried the free version of ArkMC last night and indeed the UI is pleasant. Has a few quirks but it seems to be an early release so eventually they should be ironed out.
+1 for ArkMC
I've been using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953084 for long time. It works perfect for me.

Anyone Managed to get the preinstalled MP3 Player to work with a DLNA Server?
I've tried with Windows mediaplayer, Serviio and PS3 Mediaserver.

But it does work with the MediaHouse app!
Any Idea? I'd like to use the floating Player and the notifications.

Which version of Windows are you using?
Have you enabled file and printer sharing on your Windows computer?

i have tried serviio and plex with no luck.
stock video player error is "contents location is not available. check network status and connected device"
stock music player error is "data connection failed"
stock gallery just shows a black tile with "media server (0)
would be nice if it worked without a 3rd party app
I'm using Plex to stream videos (movies/tv shows) to my Galaxy S3, Note 10.1 and Note 2.
Only downside is it doesnt supporr subtitles.
It's not great but it does the job.
I havent tried Plex with any music.. I might give it a try some time and let you know.
You might want to try to change your sharing settings for Public sharing on your Win7 since the device is not part of your Windows "private" network.

Can speak for the op, but my contents shared correctly. I have no issues with accessing my content with multiple media streamers and two HTC phones with serviio or plex... It's just the note that can't access it.
I did try twonky server demo last night, and managed to get pictures showing in the gallery!

Any idea where? Windows7 sharing options are a pain in the ass!
So, PS3 Media Server and MedaHouse app work fine for Music and Video Streaming. But Reconverting doesn't work... Trying 840x480 Videos works fine. but 1920x1080 isn't streaming well. Seeing 1 picture for 3 seconds, some sound noises and then maybe a next picture.
Some1 tried a fullHD video on the Tablets Memory ? Does that work ?

- Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings
- Under Public - Media streaming you will find "Choose media streaming options", click on that.
- From there you will see "Show devices on:" choose All networks.
- If your device isnt listed there by name, then it must be marked as an "Unknown Device" and is Blocked on the right, Allow them one by one and see if it shows up on your device.
But i have some bad news, when I tested that myself and doing this makes it show just fine using my Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 to play Music or Videos on my machine, but not Galaxy Note 10.1 for some reason!

Tzzzzzz Seems like Samsung ****ed up! Lets hope they bring JB Update soon!
it works!
No Idea why! But i startet up Media Player on my Laptop today and then used media house for remote control! don't ask me why but I also startet up normal media player and pressed "find near" it found the laptop and worked!!!
gotta test if it works on my normal pc too...
Edit: NO it doesn't ! But only the Music library seems broken! Pictures and Videos do work!
Installed Twonky 7 now... that seems to work!
Oh well. i've tested a few DLNA/UPnP Apps on my tablet.
Twonky Beam (outdated) and BubbleUPnP Are my favorite atm. Mainly because they support DMR so you can play stuff from any other DNLA device ON the Tablet! Twonky beam is better because you can play music from Tablet to computer and also at the same tame from phone to the tablet!
If you try that with BubbleUPnP it stops the laptop playing from the Tablet!
But on the other hand If you use Twonky Beam to stream Youtube Videos to the Laptop you can't minimize it! BubbleUPnP works fine minized
BubbleUPnP also has a Player control on the Lockscreen and in the notificaton Menue. And it's easier to use chose server/Device and Library.

I really don't understand whats the problem...my galaxy 10.1 finds and plays all my music that is shared over the network (either from desktop pc, laptops or other devices connected to wifi. Stock music player works flawlesly and finds all music if i choose nearby devices. Another option is allshare that finds and plays media from computers, wd tv live hub and other phones/tablets. So either I don't understand what the problem is, or you are doing something wrong. I can even get music to note from my network server over wifi and then stream it to my dlna sony hifi. It works flawlessly. My only complaint is that apparently dlna doesn't support mp3 tags so you can't filter music by artists, albums, ...
qloud player
I currently using mediatomb for mp3. Note 2 stock player can connect to it. As for movie Qloud also a good choice. easy and play fast. also can play using 3G.
It was a Problem with Windows 7 Media server!
Btw, Using Synology DSaudio ... You need a Synology NAS as Source but you can stream it to any DLNA player. Has a nice interface.

What are you using to stream tv shows / movies?

Hello,
Recently came across XBMC for streaming media content. Works pretty good on the TF700. Just wondering what everyone is using these days for their movie/tv show streaming?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
I use FX file explorer to get to the file then MX player to stream.
I would prefer xbmc if it wasn't a battery hog and had a way to prevent inadvertent screen touches. MX player has that feature.
You can't know your limits until you exceed them.
I use Plex and the usual steaming apps like Netflix, Hulu and Crackle.

AW: What are you using to stream tv shows / movies?
i have PC with SageTV running as central TVServer for recordings.
Unfortunately those recordings are stored with strange naming-convention and are spread over several drives and folders. This makes it quite complicated to stream seamless.
So there are two ways i use to watch those TVrecordings to my TF700
1. use SageTV-app for android to browse & download and then play with MXPlayer
2. use splashtopHD to connect on the serverdesktop and directly stream the remote-desktop. That works pretty well in good quality and without stuttering if wifi-connection is in good shape.
I have also tried plex-server and android-client, but i donĀ“t like the android-client of plex
Watching live-tv is done using Dreambox with enigma2 and approprite android-app to browse epg & stream.

I am using a straight SMB share from windows, bsplayer gives me smooth play with a 10GB+ BRrip. May have something to do with my beam steering wifi router, but I get great, smooth video on wifi.
