[Q] G2x factory reset itself; any way to restore? Also: Rooting with 2.3.4 - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hi guys, two-part question. This is all regarding the following phone:
Phone: G2x (LG-P999)
Carrier: T-Mobile
OS: Android 2.3.4
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: GRJ22
Software: LG-P999-V21y
Comment: Stock/unrooted; did a manual upgrade last year to the official LG update for the G2x from Froyo to late Gingerbread
Part the First
Earlier this evening, I was rebooting my phone. As it was booting, I plugged it in to charge, but accidentally grabbed the cable that was attached to my computer rather than the one that's plugged into an outlet. (May be irrelevant, but this was the only thing I did differently.) I heard the USB connection sound from my computer, and on the phone screen, an image came up that was something like the Android mascot jumping out of a software box. When the phone booted, it was in the factory-default start-up menus and prompts.
Even after logging back in to my Google account, everything appears to have undergone a factory reset. All my settings and apps are gone. (The contents of my SD card appear to be intact, however.)
Has anyone seen this before? Is there any way to restore things back to the way they were? (I was not running a backup app.)
Part the Second
If it's not possible to hit the button on the wayback machine, this seems like the perfect opportunity to root my phone and upgrade the OS. However, the instructions I've found here are for 2.3.3, and it seems like 2.3.4 may cause problems. If I'm interested in rooting/flashing a ROM, how should I proceed given that I'm currently on 2.3.4? Downgrade back to 2.3.3?

AFAIK, no. Data is gone.
SuperOneClick should root just fine. But you don't need to root to backup and then install other Rom.

About was I was expecting, but still ugh. Thanks.
Do you know if it was just a fluke that the reset happened as I plugged the cable in, or if there was some way that caused it? If it wasn't the cable, should flashing a new ROM prevent it from happening again?

[Q] LG P500h with recovery issues...

Okay, so I read and read, searched and searched. So far I'm pretty stuck.
I did a ton of research before taking my LG P500h, and flashing the ROM because I wasn't a fan of the Froyo android setup. Did everything properly, ran an nandroid backup, everything that I was told to do.
Rooted using Gingerbreak APK, custom backup using Amon_RA custom recovery. All done using the latest USB drivers LG updated me with.
I am currently with Koodo Mobile here in Canada. Pretty much an offspring of Telus Mobile. Currently I am running Cyanogen Mod 7 the 6.5.7 beta build, and the phone is not bricked, or giving me any errors or hassle.
The problem is that I cannot use the 3G network or use the Koodo network. It only defaults to Telus towers. No android market showing up anywhere either. From what I've found on here, there doesn't seem to be a bugfix solution to this, and no settings I've been able to change on the phone has helped my situation. Maybe I missed something.
So, I decided to take it back to where I began, back to Froyo 2.2.1 . This is where it all went wrong. Tried going through the Nandroid backup and restoring that, I was given an " Error : run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' via adb! " . Okay, I'm not exactly a Java programmer so I'm a little intimidated. I do however have Android SDK going on my laptop.
Some more searching revealed the KDZ_FW_UPD.exe flashing method. I got the right KDZ file for my Koodo phone, V10V_00.kdz and began the process. Everything checks out, good to go, started update. Wait, phone not found? WTF! My laptop recognizes it, says my phone is connected and working. No problems here, just can't find it? UGH.
So, I need someone to either give me info on getting it to flash the kdz, or get Cyanogen Mod 7 working properly on my device.
Please help, I'll fully admit I'm a noob to this, and not an expert programmer either. But, I know computers and I fully understand what I have done so far to my phone. Just not enough to fix it.
Okay, I have gotten some things working on my phone. I think I am settling into Cyanogen Mod nicely. I missed the Google apps flash zip so I have my market and stuff. Its a shame the data does not work though. Oh well I will keep updating as it gets developed.

GOT IT! finally...
Finally got my phone recovered to OEM specs. I had to restore my computer back to before I installed all my drivers and reinstalled all my USB drivers from there. Phone connected to USB properly, ran the KDZ updater, and it sucessfully installed the V10V kdz. All is well.
finally good luck.. enjoy androiding..
When you flashed the cyanogen mod rom what program did you use to flash the phone? And how did you make a rom backup? When you reflashed the stock rom did it still have all the original bloatware?
LG Optimus P500h TELUS became dead during Upgrading
Hi everybody!
I have LG Optimus P500h Telus. I purchased from Kijiji. I don't have any papers or documents for that so i cannot claim its warranty.
I was trying to upgrade its version during upgrading my device was stuck so I disconnected and plugged out its battery and inserted again. When i tried to turn it on. It never turned on again. It never ever appeared emergency mode again. I tried for several times by pushing home, power, and volume up and down buttons, and escape buttons. Now its just like dead. It never showed any sign of life. If anybody have any idea what happened with it and how I can recover or where I should take this one for repairs. I am in toronto, canada.
Your help and suggestions will be appreciated.

[Q] No cell after 2.3.6 (and many attempts to fix it)

ok here goes, first off, i apologize if this is in any way redundant to someone's else question. with the amount of people whose phone got wrecked with the 2.3.6 update im sure somebody has had the problem im having.
like many people i just clicked "install" when google pushed the 2.3.6 ota. my phone was running 2.3.4. rooted. when it rebooted, i was greeted with the android exclamation mark.
i happened to have a clockwork backup so i tried restoring my backup. and restore it did, but not the radio. after the google update my radio was something like NO GSXXK1 or so. i tried the radio fix here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14564429&mode=linear#post14564429
i tried reflashing the stock 2.3.3 rom from google, wiping the bootloader and all. ive in fact tried many many things that ive read on xda and google forums.
now, ive managed somehow to have a running 2.3.4 with cell signal. using the efs file copy method in he link above. that restored my 3g and ability to place phone calls but sms arent working. i did the *#*#4636#*#* thing and notice that smsc is 00, i tried to set to the right value of +17057969300 for Rogers canada but all i get is an update error followed by a crash.
and now, funny, my search button is acting weird, like an eye that keeps twitching.
im not very knowledgeable in this stuff, just enough to get by and install custom roms but clearly im in over my head now.
why did copying my 3 efs file in the root of the sd card restore signal? i dont think these files really belong there, so just what the heck happened?
is there a way i can restore my nexus S to google stock rom when they shipped the phone? i mean, a complete wipe, sd, boot, radio...everything.
if i can start back with the stock phone, i can re-root again and start fresh.
any ideas please??
im physically tired of reading everything, misleading information and constantly flashing back and forth hoping its gonna work. oh and mandatory angry comment: thank you google for effing up my phone!
edit:
the only stock rom i tried i the 2.3.3 stock update available in clockwork. made no results.
current specs:
my phone is a i9020a
current baseband : NO DGSXXKD1
current build: GRJ22
android ver: 2.3.4
core: 2.6.35.7-ge382d80 [email protected] #1

Thanks dude, i had actually done that and did manage to get a signal back. its SMS that just wont work and when do the INFO thing to set the right value, i either get update error or a crash.
i installed stock rom 2.3.4 and install radio uckd1. that made my signal work even without having to move the efs files on the root of the sdcard. but still no sms.
is anybody else getting sms problems? this was working before the 2.3.6 fiasco.
im with rogers canada, in ottawa.
ok, just to loop the loop on this one and hoping it will be of use to somebody else.
my sms issue wasnt related to my phone at all, once i had a signal back, that's as far as the phone was concerned.
i placed a call to rogers to let them know i couldnt sms anymore.
long story short, they tried many things but ultimately, its doing the "hard" reset on the network for my phone that did it. im sure there a better name for it but basically they erased my phone from their network, i had to wait about an hour for the change to propagate. when i powered the phone back, it resynced everything and sms was back online without a single thing to do.

[Q] USB and radio after upgrade to ICS

Hello everybody,
I rooted and upgraded my T-mobile(US) SGs4G from Froyo to ICS, currently:
model sgh-t959v
firmware 2.3.6
baseband ver t959vuvkj6
kernel ver 2.6.35.7-t959vuvkj6-cl694130
build # gingerbread.vuvkj6
since this upgrade i have 2 bugs:
1. usb(mass storage mode) is not working in my car (read error), worked before OK. it's still working when i connect phone to computer. We got another SGs4g in the family (not rooted, just upgraded to GB), it's stop working in USB mass storage in the car too. Any ideas? could i replace usb driver in ICS or do i need to go back to Froyo?
2. I worked in the building with poor reception of GSM signal, so if phone could not connect to the cell, then even if i go outside later it's still "searching" and could not find signal, so i need to turn phone off/on in order to get signal.
Could it be fixed? again it was OK with Froyo: 5-10 sec and reception re-established.
Thanks in advance.
You don't have ICS. You have Gingerbread. Try a factory reset for your problems.
I did
Thanks, my bad, sure it's not ICS, its GB. And i did HW reset in the begining, do you think it's the number of resets that counts? BTW i did not back up my Froyo, do you know where i can get one?
When did you do the factory reset in relation to your problems? How did you upgrade?
Depending on your answers my recommendation is follow the guide in the second link of my signature. GB is worth having.
I can find you a link for Froyo but it is not as simple to downgrade to Froyo as you might think. You will need to make sure to flash Froyo bootloaders also.
first i did root still with froyo
then updated to GB with keos
did reset, and re-installed all applications.
I did figure out how to "trick" lost connection due to no signal:
turn on flight mode and turn in off. so definitely it's a bug.
still no luck with USB
I know that downgrade to froyo is not easy, and i like GB, this is why i'm asking if there is a way to patch usb driver only
regards

Interesting Evo Design 4G dilemna created by my noobness

First off, I know I just signed up. I've been creeping for the past month or so.
So here is the situation:
Summary: I have a hardware problem on a rooted/unlocked htc evo design and have to return it to stock settings to return but have lost usb connection and cannot re-establish.
Hboot:
Unlocked
S-On
1.26.0000
Software Info:
version: 2.3.4
htc sense: 3.0
software number: DesignerEvo-0.5
Longer Version:
I bump into a tech-head tweak everything buddy of mine and he says i just have to "flash the new ics" to my phone.
15 hours of banging the head against the wall later i realize im trying to unlock/root/su/flash as though i have the evo 4g not the evo DESIGN 4g which i actually have. (and which i shortly discovered has nothing customized for it) After that I was off and away-ish...
so here is what i have done (don't mock me for saying it wrong):
- Unlocked the phone via htc dev site (it won't let me post links yet)
- Flashed/Installed Custom Recovery Clockwork mod 5.0.2.7
- Flashed su-2.3.6.3
- Flashed Designer Evo 0.5 found at sdx-developers (wont let me link)
- then for kicks flashed a a vaelek rom that said it was compatible-ish for the evo design from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399351 it didnt see usb and other issues, so...
- then came back to Designer Evo
- installed setcpu to try to improve battery life...
Everything was fine for a couple of weeks (other than no ics and crappy battery life!)...
All of a sudden at random the phone powers off with battery reading charged. It will reboot, and within minutes power off again.
It does this in stock rom and custom.
If i keep it on charge it stays on.
If i remove it after charging, it holds power for a little while, but still powers off.
I thought conflict may have been between setcpu and a power savings app i had running and had forgotten to remove. removed, seemed to be okay then same.
I decided to come back on here figure out how to flash back to factory and unroot, and plugged it into computer (windows 7) via usb. "unknown device". reinstalled drivers. same problem. opened as ubuntu 11.x, still nothing. installed drivers nothing.
I dloaded a stock PH44img.zip w/ phone and put it on root and it would load at hboot, but do nothing after. may require s-off?
This is weird, I did a factory reset from recovery and on reboot it defaulted to the vaelek custom rom, so i went back to my oldest backup.
so... as i said, I think I have a hardware problem on a rooted/unlocked htc evo design and have to return it to stock settings to return but have lost usb connection and cannot re-establish.
Hang in there Vince...somebody is bound to point you in the right direction
I guessing people were off partying this weekend and have yet to respond?
ok this is crazy.... My design 4g is nowing doing the same thing.... Google brought me to this thread... anyone know anything?

tried to ruu via boot loader... It won't take. I may need to relock the boot loader.

[Q] Clicking sound during calls after nvflash

I had previously ran some custom ROMs (Cyanogen, etc) on my G2x, but this past year I had gone back to the stock 2.3.4 ROM. I did leave my phone rooted.
Recently I had decided to give my phone to someone else and wanted to do a factory reset to get rid of my info.
I followed the steps on the T-Mobile support site.
I held down on the volume while turning it on.
After a second I got the "S/W Upgrade" screen.
I left my phone alone for a while, but the screen never went away. After unhooking it my phone seemed bricked.
I followed the following guide to fix it and it restored my phone to 2.3.3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644
The phone seemed to work fine, but all of a sudden I started hearing clicking.
I decided to try to update to 2.3.4, but my phone is a refurbished phone and won't do the OTA update.
I downloaded the LG driver and tool to try to update, but it said my phone already had the latest update. It detects my software version as V21Y when it's actually V21e.
Here is more of my phone info.
Model number:
LG-P999DW
Android version:
2.3.3
Baseband version:
M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 [MAR 11 2012 10:00:00]MP:TRUGLE_08.09.02R_MDM
Kernel version:
2.6.32.9
Build number:
GRI40
Software version:
LG-P999-V21e
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Flash this in CWM to fix the audio: http://www.mediafire.com/?8spjkaknyg5bd30
You have the 2.3.3 software installed which doesn't have the audio files working for the baseband that comes with the 2.3.4 update

Hey. Thanks for the reply.
Is there a way just to flash a working 2.3.4 rom?
Also, when I install this fix, do I just keep the files zipped and keep it at the root of my sd card when I run CWM?
I've been following step-by-steps so my grasp of the flashing process is tenuous at best.
Yes just pick select zip from external sd and flash away.
