Goophone I5 Lite - [Q] & [A] and Development Area - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone,
I've just created this thread to merge all the goophone i5 information in just one post. This way it will be easier to all goophone i5 users to post doubts answers and eventual software updates/ROMS.
I've both of goophones (Y5 and I5) and i'm happy with them.
But there are some problems with goophone i5 stock software.
Problems detected on the stock rom that need a fix
- Can't recieve or send MMS. FIXED
- 3G network and Data Connection don't work. FIXED - See Below
- Google apps can be installed. Google play won't download apps (Error 906 - com.google.process.gapps stoped). FIXED - See Below
- Not all language strings are translated. English is ok.FIXED
- Some of stock apps are in Chinese (Weather, Maps, App Store) FIXED - Just delete the APKS from system/app
- Some apps are there just there to fill the launcher. They don't have any utility (Passbook, Games Center, etc). But they are removable in system/apps/ FIXED
- Can't delete contacts. You just can add or import existent Vcard. If you press cancel the apk will give you an error and crash. FIXED - Settings -> Email, Contacts, Calendar -> Delete All Contacts
- When you delete call history the apk will give you an error and crash. But the history will be deleted. FIXED
- When you change the language, the apk will give you an error. But the language will be changed. FIXED
- Poor contact image quality during phone call. The image is loaded but have a awful quality. FIXED
- When you recieve a message it will be kept on the lock screen, but it only shows the number not the name of the person who sent it to you. FIX NEEDED
- Sometimes when you slide it to silence using the Mute Button the software will get crazy and will change the profile from mute to sound in a loop. FIXED on the last ROM
- Can't do video calls. There is no option to make it and when you recieve one, the phone won't let you answer it and it will crash the phonecall.FIXED
Useful information about Goophone I5 Lite
Android Version: 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich
Access to the Factory Hardware test
- Power off the phone
- Press Power Button + Volume up [+]
This phone comes rooted from factory so, if you want to have access to the clockworkmod:
- Power off the phone
- Press Power Button + Volume down [-]
The clockworkmod is in chinese but is easy to understand.
1- Reboot System now
2- Install zip from sd card
3 - Wipe data / Factory Reset
4 - Wipe Cache
Last - Advanced (To wipe battery stats and dalvik cache)
How to change boot logo to Apple logo
Go to the system/media and you'll find 4 zip files with name bootanimation.zip, shutdownanimation.zip, bootanimationIphone.zip and shutdownanimationIphone.zip
Just rename the original ones to bootanimationGP.zip and shutdownanimationGP.zip and delete the word Iphone from the others.
Easy way: Make a phonecall to the number *#0066# and boot will be changed from goophone logo to apple logo
How to install google apps
Download and Unzip the file
Copy all the files from the folder to system/app/. Change the permissions following the next image:

You need to change the permission of every copied file.
Reboot the phone.
After the reboot you will be able to download apps from the Google Play
In the other file that is attached (goophonei5-apps.zip) to this post are some of apps that you might need.
The apps are:
- iWeather - Translated weather apk
- Aptdoide - For the ones who want to install apk's and can't use Playstore
- Rebooter - A nice program to reboot your phone (The same goophone Y5 has)
How to get 3G network working!
- Download APN Manager Pro and Titanium Backup Pro (must be these)
- Set the apn manager pro as system app with titanium backup
- Open APN Manager Pro and insert you APN settings
- And that's it!
HOW TO FIX CARRIER SIGNAL ISSUE
- Find an oldphone at home,it does not matter the brand or model.
- Write down it IMEI.
- Replace your goophone imei with the old phone imei with mobile uncle tools.
- Reboot the phone
HOW TO FIX BLACK SCREEN ISSUE and increase Battery life
Open the build.prop file located inside system folder, scroll to the bottom and add this lines

Goophone I5 with H2000+ Rom
Hi,
wow sounds great but I killed my pre-installed rom because of wrong SU-rooting...
I'm looking for a complete new rom which is fully Google-ready (GApps, Market,...).
Until now I have the rom from the H2000+ installed but there are problems with the WIFI & Bluetooth connection.
(more I didn't test for now)
So when I try to start one of them activating, the connection will try to do something... but the only thing what happens is that the LED-Flash starts to blink...
-> That means.... sh... I can't do anything...
I also tried to flash the H9300+ rom but nothing happens during boot -> also back for now to H2000+ waiting for a new Rom for I5.
Or has anybody an idea, which Phone has near the same components and an Android-Rom exists?

What exact dimension does the i5 have? Is it 1:1 like the iphone 5? I'm considering buying a goophone but there is also an alternative called zophone which claims to be an exact iphone copy dimension wise.
Regarding 3G: the phone supports wcdma 850/2100, maybe your carrier isn't compatible?

Hi!
The goophone is exactly the same size that iphone 5, the color is exactly the same.
the zophone if i were you, i didn't buy it. It has a lot of problems. Some websites are considering about take it out of selling.
Be sure that you buy a goophone. Goophone I5 has more support. And it's better. It has problems on the software, but i hope that they develop a new rom soon in order to fix some bugs of it.
For the previous version (Goophone Y5) there are some ROMS that improved the phone performance. So i think that on this one there will be much more considering the hardware

Can you upload the entire backup of the rom .zip of the goophone i5?

You don't need that! just go to your external card and you will se a file named with goophone-i5-0107-f-001.zip.
That is the stock rom for you goophone i5.

Yes I have format my SD CARD:crying:.
I haven't access to the software. I can only enter on recovery mod or rebooting the phone, but after the swipe on the main screen, the phone is empty, without icon, only black screen.

All you need to do is to Wipe Data / Factory Reset and the stock software willl be replaced by your current rom.
Don't forget to wipe cache and dalvik cache after or before the data wipe.

Hi I'm back again...
Thank's all for the Help!
So I tried and tried and tried and at least I installed the Rom from the video at my second post of this thread.
I didn't really know where I could find the Rom (from the video and the orig one) because I had the same problem as tancrazio.
But when you watch the video and pause it when the guy selects the rom - just use google and search and you will find the Rom on some chinese sides.
(Orig: goophone-i5-0107-f-001.zip, Video: goophonei5-0123-f.zip).
Now... all is fine exept Calendar... This one crashes every time, when the system tries to sync it whith the Google-Account.
Maybe I'll deactivate the Loader and use Apex - the Def is sooooooo slow and Apex is much faster and you also have more settings for the Home-Screen.

I was so ready to pull the trigger on this, but the rom seems half baked. I don't suppose any devs have mentioned getting one of these, would be great to get CM10 running on this.

I hope can help me. I have the zophone i5 and it will not let me get into recovery mode. I can get into the screen where it says recovery mode with the apply logo and it gets stuck and thats it.
Another issue was I thought it might have been the phone so I reset it via factory mode but it is the same and I have lost the apple unlock screen and the slide to power off. I have tried to find what add they were using on my phone but cant seem to find it, does anyone know what its called?

Yes the stock rom is halfe baked..but as goophone y5 there will be software updates and new roms...it's just a matter of time
The phone hardware is very good, the only cons that i've to make to this phone is the current software, but oh well, you know, wich phone does not have bugs when it is released?

@Manuxo: How did you fix the Calendar-Sync-Problem?
I still only need to get rid of this problem to get "Online" the phone for my girlfriend...

I didn't see in the OP that you had converted the language from Chinese to anything else? Has there been language adjustments?

So far stuck at boot splash with a full wipe (minus SD card of course). Will reflash and try again
Edit: This sucks. Did another full wipe and this time I even mounted system and data to no avail. ROM will not boot. Using 4ext recovery

How long did you leave it? Some boots can take 10 minutes. I personally haven't tested this myself so can't comment, but maybe someone else has had better luck...

5 minutes. In my years of flashing and developing very popular ROMS on the Samsung Captivate I have never had it get stuck this long

Same here. Stuck at the HTC logo, even at the 2nd flash.

Man, are you crazy!!!... you did not even test the rom and you posted it. Your op was so promising, i thought everything is working spick n span as if it was freshly tested. Can't believe this, and you are asking us to check the build.prop. Lolz

I told in the OP that I am not a super dev and also I told that I don't have the handset -__- so how on Earth should I test it ?! or , wait , I may have found the problem !

<li>​Just some notes and observations that were not mentioned in his guide that will help. In order to install the drivers try right clicking the driver for your system and selecting install. If that doesn't work here is what you do. Turn off your phone, take the battery out, put it back in (if you don't do this it will just show a charging symbol) now plug it in, it should attempt to install the drivers and fail, at this point go to your start button, search programs and files and type device manager, when it comes up select the one with an exclamation point and right click it, select update drivers, point it to the driver folder and then your operating system folder, i.e. vista, windows 7. If the attempt to install does not work download http://narod.ru/disk/57204199001.bb08022cc3658b67af84bc83bd330b0c/20120705_e1808_v75_jbl1.zip.html extract the folder.
<li>Download http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?htx4lkktne1jmzg recovery image and place and replace the recovery in the folder above.
<li>Do not have your phone connected to your computer, open sp flashtool downloaded from Bruno martins guide select scatter-loading on the right select the scatter file in the extracted folder, deselect everything but the recovery i.e. only have recovery selected! Click the download button.
<li>Turn off your phone, remove the battery, put the battery back in plug in your phone, it should now attempt to install drivers, again it will fail, start, search programs and files, device manager, right click the one with the exclamation mark, select update, select driver folder, select your windows version, yes on any warnings, now installed.
<li>NOTE: I recommend never plugging in your phone until you hit the download button and it says searching with sp flashtool. It doesn't react if it's plugged in before then.
<li>O.K. So at this point you should have your drivers installed and recovery as well. Almost there.
So next download http://www.sendspace.com/file/oj1fv2 2 gb internal memmory and 500 mb external. Essentially what this zip does is make your phone have 2 gigs of internal space and 500 mb external instead of 500 mb internal and 2 gigs external, super cool.
Don't do anything yet though.
<li>Next download http://www.sendspace.com/file/uj3jqx This is the ultimate rom I spent some time on for our phones, it's android 4.06 while it's not orriginally mine I fixed a lot of issues and made it much, much, better and pre-rooted with buisy box.
<li>Next download http://www.sendspace.com/file/7yfizd That's right GOOGLE NOW fully working, really cool, works perfect you'll love it!
<li>Now that you have them downloaded put them on your SD card. Here is were people kept telling me if your external doesn't work you can just put it on your internal Sd card. DON”T DO IT! If your external doesn't work you put a smaller one in a 2 gig works nicely, I had a 16 gig and it wouldn't read, had an old 2 gigger laying around and read it just fine. Heres why you don't use the internal, your flashing the internal memmory!! It will mess everything up!
<li>That said, files on the sd card put it in your phone.
<li>Press power while holding the up or + volume, release power continue to hold the volume and you'll eventually go into recovery menu.
<li>Use volume to navigate power to select.
<li>Select wipe data/factory reset, confirm.
<li>Select wipe cache partition, confirm
<li>select advanced, select wipe dalvik cache, confirm.
<li>Now select install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card and select the custom rom file, confirm.
<li>Go back and reboot, let the phone reboot to system, as a side note screen will be moving white, its just the wallpaper. After full boot up let system settle then hold power and select recovery.
<li>Once back in recovery select install zip from sdcard, choose zip from sdcard and select the 2 gig zip, install.
<li>Select choose zip from sd card and select the google now zip and install, now reboot your phone, and love the awesomeness. By the way it's just google in your app dawer or choosable when you select the microphone on your home screen.
FLASHING OTHER ROMS
<li>There are two different types of ROMS you can flash.
<li>Official-These are official builds and releases made for your phone. These will be flashed by using sp flashtool. Now our phones also have unique hadware sometimes different from phone to phone. Chinese are pretty infamous for mixing and matching hardware. That being said you need to have software settings set for your particular hardware. You do this by using a particular software called SP MDT which you can download here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/6kee8d When you download the file run it. Select your scatter file, then select the button with the question marks, select unlock, the first one on the left is for your rear camera, middle is for front and finally right is for your screen setting which most people have trouble with and think they bricked their phone. The only way to truly test this is trial and error, if your screens normal you''ve selected the right screen setting, if your cameras work they are also on the right setting. Now close SP MDT and it auto saves the settings for you and use sp flashtool as normal.
<li>Custom-These are modded and themed developer ROMS, these are installed by flashing from recovery and generally do not effect your screen and camera settings because the do not contain uboot data.
Troubleshooting
<li>Don't flash NVRAM and UBOOT if your phone already works fine with cameras and LCD screen!
<li>My phone will not connect to install drivers- Many methods have been mentioned, but the one that works is-power your phone off, take out the battery wait 5 sec, put battery back in, now plug in your phone to the pc, it should attempt to install drivers and fail, go to start then type in the search box device manager, select it, right click the one with the exclamation mark, choose update. If that doesn't work, run sp flashtool select your scatter file choose what you want to install, select download button, now follow the steps provided above and plug in your phone. Also The cord that you use to pluggin to your computer may be the issue, if it does not transfere files when you plug it in normally then it wont work for the drivers, some of them are charge only I found that out myself when two of mine didn't work.
<li>My sd card can't mount in recovery-Most likely cause SD card is incompatible i.e. too big, use a smaller 2 gig card, do not use internal memmory as others suggest, it can mess things up and I advise against it.
<li>SCREEN PROBLEMS! Psychedelic colors, black, white, gray and others. CAMERA PROBLEMS! No camera, wont focus etc. Etc.... You need two programs spflashtool found here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/bh81se and SP_MDT found here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/6kee8d You also need an official firmware. Open SP_MDT go to the box that says scatter file, point it to your official firmware scatter file, then click the box with all the question marks, press unlock, the first option is your rear camera, the second option is your front facing camera, the last option is your lcd settings which make it look normal (not phsychedelic and wacky). Now these settings vary from phone to phone so you just have to trial and error them, basically if your screen is right, the seting is right, if your camera works the setting is correct. Now you can close the SP_MDT don't worry it saves your settings for you even though you just close it. Go into SP Flash tool Now you can flash the whole ROM but you don't have too, you only need to select UBOOT it will give you a warning it's perfectly fine, thats all you need to flash to fix your settings, and it wont mess up your current ROM.

Incompatible apps
Thanks for the guide I've now got the 4.0.6 Rom on my phone. one problem, the play store says a lot of apps aren't compatible with my phone. I'm assuming this is because its a 4.0.6 Rom is there anyway to make the play store think you have 4.0.4 so it will let you download them or any other way to download these supposedly incompatible apps?

there is no android 4.0.6 this rom is based on android 4.0.3

Okay I've now tried a 4.0.4 Rom and its still saying loads of apps are not compatible when downloading from google play? These apps worked fine when I was on the stock 4.0.3 Rom.

sendspace.com/file/uj3jqx was 4.0.6 is a moded version of android 4.0.3 the build.prop file has been edited 4.0.6 there is a build.prop file somewhere that lets google play compatible with all apps.

I changed the lcd density, the model and product name in the build.prop file and now its letting me download all the apps. Thanks for your help.

This is really important to note. Newer phones have JBL2, and the JBL1 stuff at worst soft-bricks them and at best takes away auto-focus from the camera (still working on this, but seems permanent for now).

I've watched a few videos about getting "google now" working on ICS - but I have little Android experiece and do not want to break the phone. Has anybody done it successfully on this ? can u point me at a failsafe utube video (or something else) to get this done without my loss of £120GBP ? Thx...

Yes -- it works! I've done it.
I'm sorry that you're not going to find one step-by-step guide for this phone, but all the info is here.
This is a very hard phone to "break" in a permanent sense, but I'd read as much as you could stand before you began to avoid headaches that others have had before you. Between the two threads here, there are 150 or so pages of info. Especially important things to note: Make sure you have the right phone (not quite as easy it sounds) and make sure you note all the current details of your software before you get under the hood.
In order to use Google Now, you'll first need to root your phone and install a custom recovery (if those don't make sense, use the Google to search for an overview).

So, the question becomes: Do you have root and a custom recovery?
FWIW, Google Now is interesting but has yet to seem revolutionary to me. Seems like something that will be amazing three or four generations from now.

B026 (Older versions: B018,B019,B024,B025) - those version come with the device pre-installed. It’s don’t reccomend to install them. Those version are 4.0.4 Android and they are not include Google Apps.
B107 - This is the official Huawei’s international version. It’s an Android 4.0.4 version Stock (original Google Vanilla UI) which is come with Gapps. Multilanguage version. This version is considered as “Battery Saver” by most of the users in XDA. This version also got the biggest Antutu Benchmark score (15,000-15,500) which achieved in the device.
4.1.2 Updates (Emotion UI):
All of the 4.1.2 updates have the “Emotion UI” interface (more info about EMUI here).
There is only English and Chinese in Emotion UI (Menus).
Right now there is 2 version of Emui - “Emotion UI 1.5” and “Emotion UI 1.6” .
You can download it from here, use google translate.
EMUI 1.5 is the stable build. Emui 1.6 is the development build.

How to install Official Updates -
Method number 1 - Required EMUI:
Donwload official update which come as a Zip file.
In the Zip file there is a folder called “dload”. Extract its to the root library of the SD card.
Open Settings app.
Go to “About Phone” and then choose “System updates”.
Choose “Update via SD card” and then “Confirm”.
The device will reboot into the “Update installer” and then he will install the update.
If the installation successed, the device will reboot into the new version, if not it will reboot into the version which you have right now.
Method number 2 - Required Original Recovery (can be custom ROM)
Donwload official update which come as a Zip file.
In the Zip file there is a folder called “dload”. Extract its to the root library of the SD card.
Turn off the phone.
Boot up the phone with POWER & Volume + & Volume -
The device will reboot into the “Update installer” and then he will install the update.
If the installation succeeded, the device will reboot into the new version, if not it will reboot into the version which you have right now.
How to Replace Recovery -
U9508 have 2 types of Recovery - The original for the official updates - the chinese for everything else.
Open setting app.
Disable Fastboot option. Go to “Developer options” and enable “USB debugging”.
Connect the device into the USB. Choose “USB storage device”.
Open “Recovery6.0.1.9_AscendHonor2.exe”.
Now you have 2 options - 1 for The chinese recovery, 2 for The original recovery.
Write the number that you have choosen and press Enter.
If all is OK, the program will do its job - Reboot into FASTBOOT MOD, Flash the selected recovery and then reboot the device.
your selected recovery have been installed.
How to install custom ROM -
You will need the Chinese Recovery to install custom ROM.
This guide work with MIUI,HIUI,XIUI,TouchWiz...
Put the ROM on the SD card
Go to recovery by Turning off the device and then booting up the phone with POWER & Volume +
First you need to wipe all your data, Select the 4th option and then the first option [Wipe Data/Factory reset]
Now when your phone is empty you can install new ROM, Select the 2nd option and then 4th option.
Now select the Zip file of the ROM.
Select the first option, Now the ROM will be installed.
Now choose the “GO BACK” option (The last one) and then choose the first option - Now your phone will reboot
If the installation succeeded, After few minutes your phone will boot up to the new ROM.
How to install Google Apps or SuperSU -
This guide is almost the same as installing ROM, you just don’t need to wipe your data
This guide is also for installing kernel.
Put Gapps/SuperSU on your SD card.
Go to recovery by Turning off the device and then booting up the phone with POWER & Volume +
Select the 2nd option and then 4th option.
Now select the Zip file of the Gapps/SuperSU.
Select the first option, Now Gapps/SuperSU will be installed.
Now choose the “GO BACK” option (The last one) and then choose the first option - Now your phone will reboot
If the installation succeeded, After a minute your phone will boot up with Gapps/SuperSU.
You can check it by search in your apps for Google Play or SuperSU app.

Huawei Honor 2 U9508 1G
Hi
New to the board and I did something rash and bought a Huawei Honor 2 U9508 8G 1G ram direct from China. Its arrived and looks great and even the camera is a pleasant surprise )
I have some understanding of rooting having owned a HP Touchpad and a Ainol Fire/Flambe but I am no expert and can easily become lost in all the steps.
So my question is...
Can this phone be de-chinesed? I have managed to root it using a tool from BinAry (how cool is that tool!) now I would be happy just getting a UK Google Play installed until the community gets hacking.
Any help appreciated (Mod please move to a relevant thread if necessary)

better root this phone by using "root with restore by Bin4Try", if you are on stock 4.0 (it doesn't work with 4.1.2 on this device)
to get gapps including play store fully working just download latest ics version, unpack it and copy files using root explorer. or download
this and assuming you already rooted (and having hisuite or huawei usb drivers installed) connect the phone to pc and run install.bat, look at the display and allow su root privileges when asked
most of the chinese stuff are under /data/cust/delapp, just delete it

Sorry about because there has many different customizations in different countries’ carrier operators’ customized.
So you can’t upgrade your device which has bought in China to a oversea Android version.
And because of the law in China that all Huawei Smartphone which has sold in China all can’t support Google Play.
So your device which has bought in China also can’t support it.

yes, they need to obey the law at least until they release this phone to international markets, however, technically they do support everything just fine, all languages and the rest, it's just disabled or removed, but you can update it to "to a oversea Android version" see attached screenshots
chances you brick the phone with root and putting gapps are very low, but the risk is still always there. however if you didn't alter the bootloader in most cases you can still restore this phone into a working state

you probably can try morelocale2, but I prefer to do it natively, it works well for me on 4.1.2 emui beta and I suppose it will work on 4.0 as well
find this file /сust/channel/cn/xml/hw_defaults.xml look for white_languages string, delete those lines with Chinese and English only, and uncomment white_languages where all languages specified.

the only drawback is that you need to make factory data reset (no need to clear sdcard though) in order to make the changes to take effect.
remember if you break the xml formatting it may break something in the phone settings, so you might need to restore the whole firmware

I am planning on buying the 2G 32GB for $405 and I see yours is 4.1.2 Are there any issue rooting that phone, or better still how do you root the 4.1.2 if you cant use bin4ry?

Not sure about 32GB version, I've seen only 8GB ROM which can be extended with sdcard only, with 1GB or 2GB of RAM, which cost around $380 now or $30 more with express shipping.
As of root and 4.1.2 version, I've got that on some Chinese site, there's a dev there who making prerooted rom images for U9508 based on EMUI beta. But my phone came with stock 4.0.4 version installed by default. I've installed 4.1.2 myself and customized it a bit for my needs, including languages, gapps, etc.

Yes, it does have Greek in the menu, but I can't tell for sure if everything is translated well. Huawei customized 4.1 and added it's own launcher, and called all this EMUI. It's still in early beta and not publicly available though. I will make a guide on how to update to 4.1.2 but a little bit later.
If you've got this phone and want to enable your language in stock rom, try with "white_languages" method I've posted above.

My Experience with the U9508
I just bought this last week while I was in Beijing. The salesman sold that for 1900 RMB but after paying I found that it was a locked version and I had to pay additional 200 RMB for an export set. The normal China Mobile and other phone shops don't carry this model and can only be found in their geek pc/handphone commercial district. Even then the shops there don't carry physical stocks but must run upstairs to the export offices.
This phone has it's own Huawei Shop which is crap and the first thing is to root it with the Bin4Try method. Then comes the big problem when I tried sideloading the Google stuff. Everything installs but won't run. I found out that the root System/Apps folder is non-writable so all the stuff that I tried installing didn't make it there. In a separate thread I read about using the ES Root File Explorer and reset the file permission of that directory. Copy the needed files to the SD card first and then use ES to rewrite the folder permission and copy the files over. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfam7mCOAAo)
Good to go! But only after much anguish since I did everything on my own without this guide. BTW, there's a very good app called APK Extractor from Play. This repacks installed apps on your old phone so you can email it off to your new phone to install when you don't have Play initially. I find that this is faster than loading from SD card.
It's not as smooth as my Nexus 7 but it's a really cheap and good quad-core phone. Yah the camera has a weird and unusual focal length. It's got a bright screen like Samsung too so that's a bonus.
apnoia I would really appreciate if you can put out your guide to 4.12 help.

gapps issue

I've received my Huawei U9508 2G today \o/
I've got it from China, from an internet seller (merimobiles, to be precise). I didn't ask for it, but the first time I turned it on, it was already rooted. There was also a special installer for useful apps such as morelocale2, the google play store and google synchronization services.
I was very happy with it... until I've realized that some google apps just wont work. For example, Google+ tells me "Couldnt connect to server" when I open it, then I click OK and then it shows me the list of synchronized google accounts, I select mine and it goes again with "Couldnt connect to server" (I'm connected and can access other internet services...).
Mytracks asks to install "google play services" but when I do, I get an error: "incompatible with other application using the same shared user id". Google maps won't allow me to log in neither.
So I tried to reinstall the gapps using the method of the first post from apnoia, ... and nothing worked anymore, not even the play store... I figured this was because of the files rights. So after a busybox chown root:root *.apk, I have got the synchronization of gmail contacts, calendar and google drive working. But apart from that, I'm back to square one.
I also tried the script from apnoia with another image, namely gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip from goo.im but I think that's not better.
Now, there are some issues that I don't think I had seen before: right from the android's start, youtube, google talk and google partners services crash with no action from me.
Sometimes I have a notification: "permission required (for account [email protected])" but if I try to open it, it doesn't do anything. I've found another guy facing the same issue with the smartphone (www[dot]swedroid[dot]se/forum/showthread.php?p=1194895 -- I don't speak swedish neither, thats why I didn't reply ).
I'd really like to get the google apps working well. No one has got the issue here ?
Do you think that a factory reset would fix this ?

I suppose i will also run into the same problems with the others users,as it concern
the Play store and Google apps.

Well, for those who want to try the factory reset like me... Be prepared to have to configure the phone while it's all in chinese :silly:
Just kidding, actually you can change the language to english pretty soon in the wizard.. but still, that's a bit confusing for the 2 first screens...

Have you tried my approach to copying the Google files right into the systems/apps directory? That solved my problems.

Yes, that was kinda the apnoia's solution. Finally that's what did the trick but I assume there were some conflicts with the seller's softwares that prevented it from working before the factory reset.
Conclusion: if you've commanded your phone from merimobiles, don't waste your time, flash the gapps right away and factory reset the thing before installing apps on the phone...

What do you mean by that? The setting still crash when you try to ad or edit the APN
Don't want to leave "empty handed", here are two things you might want to check out:
an English recovery mode and a slide to un(c)lock fix

Hi ColonelZAp.
That rom already bring installed all the apps that you need to fix your apn settings.
For that you just need another android phone with the same apks installed, then you just need to:
-Set up your apn settings on your android phone
- Use the APN backup & restore to get the XML file
- Copy that file to the folder ApnBackupRestore present on your SD card.
- Make APN Backup & Restore as System App with titanium backup
- Restore the APN settings
- And that's it.
I've tried this on a few phones and it worked on all.
On my personal goophone i5 i already have 3G network Fixed.
About the lockscreen this ROM comes already with that bug fixed.

IF you have a problem with wifi and SIM connection maybe you don't have a genuine goophone.
If it don't work you have a different firmware, so, this rom will not work on your phone.
This ROM is just for Goophone I5 and not for other copies like Zophone, Hero, etc.

Could someone else just upload their apn backup xml file? Would that work?

Hello there,
I have recently purchased a Goophone I5 but it came with Chinese stuff. Is there a step by step instruction for first flashing the CWM. I would also need step by step instructions for the Gi5 ROM v1.0. I'm a novice and following the instructions above I keep getting an error message as follows "E: signature verification failed", and "Installation aborted". This happens with both the zip files that I have downloaded from the links in your post. Please help. Thanks.

Hi, the recovery.img does not seem to work for me, any help?

The apn xml file that APN Backup & Restore creates, does it have to be for the same carrier we use?
I'd like to know because my beddeh has an android phone that he agreed to let me use to create a backup file, however, he uses another carrier and not Rogers. Will this matter, or will it still work?

Can't " install " ROM

I just bought a Goophone i5. Seems great for the moment, except chinese aps of course. Want to remove them, found this post. I dowloaded the ROM in the link above, put it on the phone (using usb storage). Rebooted the phone in recovery mode as explained (power button + Vol - button).
I can see the options & navigate in them, but i can't choose any of them ! I tried using mute/unmute, power button, and home button. Nothing is working. How can i proceed please ? Thx in advance for you help.
Edit : Ok i found it, you have to slide right to left on the bottom screen (seems logic when you know it ^_^)

I wrote a lengthy reply to your post as soon as I saw your quandary but it got lost as I was logged out (or timed out).
I was (and still am) in the same boat a couple of days back and I'm glad you were able to figure out. I figured this out by accident and it was the only aha moment from the time I got this phone.
I definitely don't want to discourage you but I want to share with you that this moment of joy was short lived. The zip files (neither the ROM or the CWM) did not install. They both failed due to some signature verification error and the install aborted. If you make progress, please share with me on this site as to how you accomplished it. If I figure it out I'll share it here for others in a similar situation.

PS: I also wanted to point out that the Recovery Menu that "Manuxo" has in the original posting is not the same as mine. It has only the following recovery menu items (I'm not a 100% sure, but I think that is what the CWM gets you) ...

Good news ! I finally managed to solve this. The phone was in fact not rooted at all ! I followed some steps on a youtube channel, search for the user named mayiandjay, watch the " How to root the Goophone i5! One click root! " (there are other usefull videos). Once it was fully rooted, i managed to install a new ROM i found in here (Goophone i5 ROM V1.0). Some bugs are fixed (but i still have the " slide to unclock " bug )
About the CMW, i did not used the one mayiandjay show in his video, because it's all in chinese, I used the CMW from ColonelZap (on the same thread of the ROM V1.0) using the way he (mayiandjay) mentioned (with m44toolbox) and it's working.
The only thing that's not working is the gps, can't get any signal ! Haven't found someone talking about that. Maybe it will be fixed later ?

The GPS sucks. I got at most one satellite. Google maps also cannot detect my location. Waiting for cm9 for this.

Thanks for the update and the helpful hints. I followed everything on Video by "MayiandJay" and my phone is definitely rooted. I even have SuperSU Pro v0.98 but I'm still having issues when I try to install the ROM from the recovery menu. I get a signature validation failure. What version of the recovery menu do you have? I think I have the stock version which does not have all the menu options that Manuxo and others have discussed here. I must have tried this a hundred different ways but in the end I come up with the same result. I even have the ROM Manager Premium installed as well.

Tutorial:
Download the flash tool
Extract it
Extract the stock rom
Open the SP Flash Tool
Load the scatter file from the ROM folder.
Turn off your phone
Press download button on the SP flash tool
Connect the phone via USB
The bars will start to progress. Wait until they finish and a green circle will pop up.
And that's it! You have now installed the stock software again.
USEFUL INFORMATION
1 - Switch Operating System Code: *#12369#*
Imput this code at dailing interface, the phone will switch operating system between original Android and iOS Theme.
2 - Access Factory Mode Code: *#*#3646633#*#*
This code is availble for most phones with MTK chipset, but please use this code carefully, because if you changed some referance, it will affect phone's feature.
3- Hold Home Button 3 seconds
When you hold the home button 3 seconds, the phone will appear on the screen three virtual buttons.
4- Double Click Home Button
Double click the home button, the screen will appear the apps you opened recently.
5- Hold Home Button 15 seconds
If your phone can't charging, or the system is dead, hold the home button for 15 second, the phone will restore to default factory status.

- Opera
- Battery notification
- File Manager
- Easy Touch
- iFly - you can remove it easly.
- TongChoung.... - One that have an phone icon with chinese characters
- Baidu Search - That search icon with chinese characters
- Chinese Weather
- Baidu Maps
- Passbook
Do not remove GameCenter and mogoo market. Otherwise it will brick your phone
Some apps are inside /data/app folder

in the goophone.hk website, it says the i5s has 1 gb and is capable of 8800score in antutu.. it also says that the screen is the same as goophone i5 960x ...
it also says that is running a much smoother UI with 4.1.2 android..
but all the websites that you posted are selling a less powerfull i5s..
any ideas?

I can confirm that the i5s screen is not same as i5 because my i5s bricked and I have loaded the i5 rom and now, I lost the display.....the phone boots and you can hear the sound but on the screen I can only see different colors like rainbow. I need the stock rom to fix my phone...

Yes I was able to load Play Store and rooted the phone. Just connect your phone to your PC and copy the play store .APK file from your PC to your phones internal storage. Open file explorer on your phone and install it. Here is the procedure to root your goophone:

We need a good ROM
Hi all,
I'm in the same boat...
I've got it since a week (bought at android-sale, ).
The phone itself is really well made, excellent build quality.
The screen is really brilliant, and all is functionnal with a good reactivity and fluidity.
The iPhone theme is really good (I also got a real iPhone 5 so I can compare both )
Unfortunately, there is a lot of chinese crap... and no Google Play
I've read all other topics about others GooPhone but I think we can't flash any ROM from these other model (Y5, I5, ...).
I'm ready to test any compatible ROM

Don't know how to destroy all bloatware from it now... (i'm quite a newbie with Android :silly and associate some icons to other apk...

Don't uninstall any.... cause thats how I bricked my phone. Just wait for a STOCK rom to be available than you can do whatever you like. I already know how to load a rom on this phone but I can't find the STOCK ROM anywhere.

Yes, I have tried that but nothing....if you hold the power button for 15 seconds it will turn your phone off. If you hold Vol - + Power Button, it will show you recovery menu but in the recovery menu you can select options using Vol - and Vol + but you cannot execute any command ... I have tried power button and home button nothing works. Thank you for your assistance.
Note: I did try holding the HOME button for 15 seconds nothing happens.

Later, I will upload the drivers and step by step procedure.... how to load a rom on Goophone i5s. It needs a special flash tool to be used in order to flash or load a rom on this phone. Since, my phone is bricked, I have tried many different things, I have even installed rom from Goophone i5, since both model have different display, nothing shows on the screen except color like rainbow. The phone boots up fine its just that display wont work. If I press Vol - or Vol + button I can hear the volume going down and also going up. I desperately need the STOCK rom. Is there a way to extract the STOCK ROM from a functional Goophone i5s?

Goophone.hk doesn'tt sell this model anymore. You can check on theire's webpage.

Few weeks ago I saw I5S model with low screen resolution on goophone's website. But this was a short sale to sold these phones. Now they sells new I5S phones.

yes. works actually really well. I get a quick fix with g maps.
to my surprise the phone does not have 512mb ram as it was stated on android-sale, but 1gb!

On the end of the day i will post here the stock software so you can reflash it if the things go bad.
Things i already tested.
- none of goophone y5 ROMS work on this model.
- none of goophone i5 lite ROMS/Firmware work on this model
- removing some chinese apps can brick your phone.
Things i will made shortly
- slide to unlock in english on all languages
- slide to poweroff in english on all languages
- iLauncher - iOS like
- Delete all the chinese apps
- Install al google services
- Fix the taskbar background
Then i will compile it on a new ROM and i will put it here so you can all download it

Stuck on the boot logo
Hello i've tried to install the play store but with the root explorer I change the permissions to 777 dor the play store and I reboot the phone and now I'm stuck on the boot logo.
Please Help me
