What does Obama have to do with this? I'd rather have Obama in office than Romney who bases his decisions from talking to the great cloud magician.

Yeah nothing like communism..
You sir should do your own research and stop watching msnbc.
His policies are communistic and have failed throughout history.
Just yesterday he said " I will not compromise with the house because I know what is right for the country"
He thinks he is a f u c k i n g emperor!
Don't get me started on

He's not a dictator, we have checks and balances. We already had a gun control discussion, but if you have a problem with any of the executive orders he pulled on gun control you're a serious right winger.
He mandated schools be taught drills for a shooter. He mandated federal databases are now integrated into the background check system. He lifted THE BAN ON FEDERAL RESEARCH into gun violence. Yeah. Ban on federal research. Good job NRA.
The entire civilized world has healthcare, yes. It's a bit communistic and it's not a good economic policy. Guess what, people don't deserve to die because they can't afford the care. You and your paycheck have to deal with it.
This really got off topic though
Edit; Agnostic atheist here. religion we have to stay away from. politics is fine, we can all have a level headed discussion about that. But religion hits too close to home for some people

Oh goody here we go!
I'm not a serious "right winger" but I served in the armed forces ( btw what have you done for your country?) I think weed should be legalized, because I have personally fought in these drug wars and have seen how little of an impact it has with great loss of lives. But only weed because it really is no more harmful then beer.
As for gun control, really? I guess you don't read the news?? Chicago has some of the toughest laws in the country yet they had more killings then any other city, 500 to be in fact.
More people where killed with hammers last year then guns. As a mater of fact only 1 percent of fatalities in the USA where caused by guns last year.
Do I own guns, yes. My first rifle was given to me at the ripe old age of twelve. A ruger 10/22 I have hunted rabbit with it ever since. I was taught well never kill what you are not going to eat. That is cruel.
And are health care system is second to none. Canadians come here and pay cash to use are services because there system is okay but not great. Even the King of Saudi Arabia came here when he was having hart problems.
Are health care system was just fine, mater a fact illegal immigrants have better health coverage then I do because I'm a natural born citizen..
Almost forgot your last comment, people are more likely to go without treatment under Obama's plane then they will now because under his plan a board decides whether treatment is needed. As it stands now a hospital does not have a choice, they must treat anyone who walks through the er
So your point is void.
Edit :
You can't be agnostic and atheist, they are a contradiction.

You mistook what I said man, first - sorry the 'right winger' but most arguments against gun control that I hear all focus on the idea that liberals want to take AWAY guns. They don't. They want to make it more difficult to get them.
Chicago is an awful city, there's much more at work there then gun control laws. You know this and I know this. Gun control is a hugely complicated issue, and each point we both make can be refuted by the other.
The executive orders that he did aren't communist though. Like I said, do you actually have trouble with schools been mandated to be aware of shooter protocol? Or that background check systems become syncd? Or that the CDC is now allowed to research gun violence again?
Our health CARE is good, we have some of the best doctors in the world. Our technology is amazing. Our COVERAGE wasn't great. Is there still problems? Yes. We were denying people with 'preexisting conditions' and leaving them to wither away and die. That's not okay.
Has Obama been perfect? Hell no. I'd much prefer him to Romney though.

It's not complicated those that are good law abiding citizens that should have the right to have a weapon to defend themselves are not allowed. Those that choose not to follow the law, and know that fellow citizens that are law abiding do not have weapons, it makes it easy for them to bully them. Just as the current administration is trying to do to use now.
The executive orders that he did aren't communist though. Like I said said:
Well I kind of do, By there standards I would have never got my first rifle. I would not have brought back my first six rabbits gutted them and fed my family on my first hunt (btw we were on a deer hunt the rabbits were just dinner for the night) Do you hunt or fish? Unfortunately this is the prevailing mindset in America today. We disregard our inalienable right to privacy by saying "spy away gov't, I'm not hiding anything!". It sets up a precedent which marginalizes the demand for privacy, desensitizing everyone from this right. Then, anyone who demands privacy appears to be hiding something when in reality, Uncle Sam has no goddamned business prying in my affairs without probable cause whether or not I am breaking the law.

You can't catch **** before it happens and want total privacy, doesn't work. Most Americans don't want tragedy to strike again, and this is why the American Gov't must impose this and that to make sure they cover themselves. Heaven forbid a day come where we see Pearl 9/11 2.0 and the government had the technology to prevent it, but didn't because it would "impose on the rights of the people".
Spy away... keep America safe. Simple logic, don't want something on your phone compromised? Don't keep it on your phone.

In order to prevent terrorism, freedoms must be bent. Fact of life in today's world. I understand the counterargument. It's just my choice to give up some of my freedoms to prevent terrorism. And I already have less freedoms than most of you as I'm an active duty US Military member.
This is basically an argument that no one can win, but it's always interesting to read others' opinions.

I was active duty military.
This is still BS.
What happens when every 10 years or so we give up just a little bit more of our freedoms for a false sense of security? Just a little more. I'm willing to give up just a little more. Repeat...and repeat....and repeat. Next thing you know they're all gone and your country has become a military state with little to no freedom of any kind. All for the sake of protecting the people, of course. Why don't we just take away everyone's ability to choose anything while we're at it. Then they'll be so much easier to manage and keep safe.
Freedoms should never be bent to protect freedom..

Just gonna say. People can protest all they want but Congress is pretty much hell bent on getting it passed. The only solution I see is that when it is passed and most sites are blocked, people will be in outrage because they have all been in the dark about SOPA. Riots will ensue untill the Supreme Court rules it unconstitutional on the basis that it restricts peoples freedoms on the internet.
Whatever the case is, it will be gone in the future.

Quite frankly, this bill should never be passed. I can understand wanting to protect artist's rights, but this is pushing it far beyond constitutional boundaries. Even if it is repealed though, I'm sure they won't hesitate to try again with a lighter variant, which would've otherwise been repealed..
You guys all know this will have far reaching consequences other than a few torrent sites going down right?
If this passes Youtube will cease to exist as you know it. It will be much too much work for them to filter new uploaded videos to make sure there is not any music clips, company logos, or other references that someone can close them down for. After awhile it will be too costly and too much work to maintain and police so Youtube may just go away forever.
Any site can be shut down for anything that someone thinks might have something on it related to a copyright of any kind. Someone could be sued for drawing a picture of the USS Enterprise and putting it on their site even. That is considered a copyright and illegal if the bill is passed.
You are guilty until proven innocent. Do you have the money for the lawyers to prove your innocence? Or is it easier to just shut your site down and not take the chance? If someone just doesn't like you they can claim you have copyrighted material and you will be shut down. If they find nothing then you can go back up but will it be worth the constant hassle?
On a forum such as this if someone has a picture as their avatar, or in their sig that someone somewhere has some rights to, the site can be shut down. It will make things a big chore to keep up with.
Make no mistake, this draconian bill will destroy the internet as you know it, and will effect much more than pirate sites.
In the US of A today what big corporations want, big corporations get. They own most of the law makers in Washington of both parties. Ever since the Citizens United ruling by the 5 right-wing corporatist justices that say "corporations are people and money is speech" politicians are beholden to corporate interests. If you as a politician go against the corporate powers that be , they will flood your opponent with advertizing cash to defeat you in the next election. This has already happened since the ruling. All this does is make any politician that wants to keep his job genuflect at the knees of corporate America. In this case the music and movie industry among others are driving this bill.
This is a BIG deal folks, even if you never will partcipate in any piracy of any kind.

It seems so if you look around, I found this statement:
"Is the SOPA bill dead? In the wake of criticisms released by the Obama administration Saturday, many observers predict the Stop Online Privacy Act and its sister act, the Protect IP Act (or PIPA), are dead on arrival."
But that doesn't meant we can relax. Corporate America is ruthless when it comes to getting what they want (which is why we give billions of dollars in corporate welfare to super rich Exxon just so they can rip us off). We need to keep up the pressure.

No because if any spying was done it would be done after the data left your phone and therefore undetectable.
The usa and uk do have an agreement whereby each can monitor the others private citizens (yes it is real and has been discussed in the uk houses of parliament. Its called echelon and is a matter of public record in uk) but its highly doubtful you would be spyed on for no reason and not really something you could know if it did happen so not worth worrying over.

I once found an app that detects all wifi enabled devices that are using wifi or Mobile data connections. It was gone so fast I couldn't get it.
It used a live map to detect the location
I feel I'm touching a subject that's too sensitive.

I'm not being the internet police. I'm stating the obvious. Don't do illegal **** and you won't have to be all paranoid.
The internet isn't really free. You pay your monthly bill for it or whatever, but the content within the internet is free unless, of course, you're downloading repackaged programs that actually retail for real money in which case you should buy the stupid program or music.
Not saying that I'm not guilty of pirating either, but don't complain about consequences for your actions when you knew them before you even did it.

[Q]Thinking about changing my major...

I'm currently going to the community college for an Associates Degree in Commercial Music Management, I'm highly considering a different career choice, I feel like I'm much better with computers and electronics. I was wondering if there is like a reverse engineering course or a type of course dealing with Android devices (creating roms, themeing, etc.) I know it also depends on the college as to what is offered but what would the name for these type of courses be called?
I'm in law school. 17. play football at a jc. never had a gf. 6'4.

Why not just go for networking (sisco systems etc) its really good pay even with a 2 year; starting from 60k to about 80-90 in 4 years depending on where you live. App developers don't all become rich its more of a gamble sort of like winning the lottery. Your app has to be completely different from the other 200 million apps out there. That career may not be as rewarding as you think it is especially trying to take care of a family. If you really want a somewhat secure career that has multiple options try computer science BS (4 year) or Computer Information Systems BS. Be prepared for more math you've ever seen in your life I hope you're a wiz with numbers to learn all the different computer languages. Also try applying for financial aid if that's something you need to attend a 4 year. Investing 30-40k in your future is nothing when your starting salary would be 70k as a beginner. Good luck
Are you good with Maths, especially theoretical Maths such as Statistics, discrete math? Do you like algorithms? Are the things below your interest?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discrete_mathematics
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubble_sort
Computer Science (CS) may be a good fit if you like the above. Like kenny mentioned, be prepare for abstract, theoretical maths you will ever seen going into Computer Science. Computer Engineering is also another great major for similar interests. Both majors can prepare you for graduate studies and research & development.
If you like software/application development and do not want to deal with the theoretical stuffs in CS, Computer Information Systems/Management Information Systems may be better for you.
With today's information at the tips of your fingers, do your research on the Internet, talk to friends, even school counselors/advisors, to help with choosing your major.
Good luck!

I majored in political science (BS) and I'm doing my master right now. I plan to attend law school when I'm done next summer. I'm 26 so the fact that you're 17 and in law school is not really believable unless you're a genius miracle kid. Did you skip your bachelors? I'm confused *scratches head* I mean you could go to college but you'd be "pre law" and not technically in law school yet but transitioning to head there.

I skipped getting my BA and am going straight for my JD.
this might be why your confused, its a non aba school. its a cba. but I'm looking to start my own firm later on so this dosent matter to me.
I figure with me having a jd and my AA from a JC. it would impress USC and impress them so I can walk on and play football at USC.
or instead of going to USC, I could get a SJD.
or just start working or try and start my own firm at 21.
my AA is in information technogloy btw but I haven't even begun my AA yet time is becoming a factor.
7-9pm is law school. 4-6 is football. 11-4 is jc. As you see where is time for work? Almost no time to meet drunk college girls.
I actually haven't talked about this to anyone, what do you think?

Verizon Wireless draws fire for monitoring customers' app usage, Web browsing..

I saw this this morning on Flipboard, any thoughts? I would guess even custom ROMS do no good when it comes to Verizon collecting our browsing/internet habits?

I don't like big brother monitoring.

I didn't read the full thing but google has been doing this forever and then some. they even increased how detailed/how much data they collect with the new TOS they put out recently. I'm betting the only reason Verizon is drawing more fire is because of the phone aspect of it.
Also, big brother can and does whatever they want. The government monitors all sorts of stuff that you would think would be illegal to do. Welcome to the new socialist regime under Obama..
I don't see an opt out, unless its not out yet.

Custom ROM tracking?
Does this still apply to users with a custom ROM?

Yeah, if you don't think that Bush handed him the keys right before firmly pointing the economy at the iceberg and tying steering wheel in place before doing so, than your mistaken.. And being prior military and working in intelligence, I can tell you that every electronic ANYTHING is being archived and saved and scanned for keywords since way before Obama. Eery single one of your emails and voice conversations and IM's and posts. Hmm and who put the Patriot Act in place.. hmm.. Have a Lovely day talking to big brother.. Oh by the way.. They prefer sexting.

Not that I want to get into a political conversation here, but I will, who made it a felony to protest, even peacefully, in front of the Secret Service? Who's had 4 years to fix said economy but has only steered it deeper into the hole. Obama has increased the national debt more in 4 years than Bush did in 8.
Now I'm not a Bush fan, I'm just saying Obama is bad news. Oh, as far as the Patriot Act, who renewed it once the majority of the terrorist alarm settled down years after 9/11??
I do agree the monitoring has been going on for a long time, but it has either taken steps that no one would before or at least taken steps publicly that every other regime did in secret. If it is just the same sh*t diff pile then doing it publicly is just a slap in the face to everyone. I'd rather they try to hide it then do it and blatantly step on our rights.
Oh, one more thing, who's given illegal immigrants more rights/help than the average American who is in need of help too?
I'm pretty sure most companies track your online habbits. They claim the use it for "market research". On my phone I'm not really that bothered by it, I don't do anything on it that I want to keep private, because I don't trust how private they are.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless you are embarassed you look at porn on your phone. Just keep things you would like to be personal and not tracked heavily on a properly secured connection at home, and possibly use TOR if you are that paranoid and want a little extra security.
Actually, I believe there is Tor available for android. It may help cut down on what they know your doing.
yawn, who cares???

Democrat or Republican the only thing you can be sure of is they do NOT have your best interest in mind. They love that they factioned the people, makes it easier for them when we're fighting about who's the worst.

I don't mind some monitoring but when they collect everything!? That's a little overboard IMO. I want an option to op out. I don't care about their strategic advertisements for my use. I guess there's no way stop them until theyre a law suit against them.
