[Q] Multi-button headsets for Razr HD? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My HTC came with a headset that had 3 buttons on it (forward, backwards, and pause)
Does motorola have something similar? The more buttons the better!! I'd love a 5-button (as above + volume)

[Q] Any 3 button headphones compatible with WP7?

A2DP
Hi iEatRappers,
Have you thought of buying an A2DP bluetooth clip? (they can be bought very cheaply on Ebay) this way you can use any earphones that you like and the controls that you require are contained within the clip.
Hope this helps,
Creamy
I assume they will work, I borrowed some headphones the other day from mate that had play/pause and volume on them and they worked.
Creamy has the best response.
But you could just buy some more HTC headphones.

[Q] iBeats on the HTC normal Sensation

Hello,
I bought the iBeats headphones an they arrived today.
I've put them in my normal sensation (not XE or XL) and it works flawlessly.
When I press the play/pause button on the headphones, it works well.
But the arrow keys do not work (volume up/down).
At least, nothing happens.
Is this normal? A defect? Can this be fixed?
Thank you!

Hi!
Is it possible your iBeats is the iPhone version? Apple supports the 3 button control layout, Android only supports 1 button.
Work around solution is to find a headphone controller app (by Christoph is good) so you can control volume (plus forward, rewind, etc) with a button press

But the default HTC headphones also have 3 buttons on the cable?
I bought the Apple version on amazon, to me is the ControlTalk function not so important, so I ordered it myself. But it would still be great, if it would work.

Try jays headset control, its free from the market and works well with the one button headsets that work with android phones. I have the SOL Republic Amps and confirmed that the mic, answer and end calls works with the middle button. So with the addition of the app, I can now control volume and skipping tracks as well.

Hi!
Yup HTC sensation default headphones have 3 buttons but difference is the spacing lines in the jack between iphone ones.
IPhone headphones (w/ Mic) 3.5 mm jack has a different spacing lines layout (stereo left/right/Mic) than Android phones. This also functions for the volume/track control. If you have a chance you can compare both of the same model, for example Klipsch Si4 vs Si4A.
Earphones w/o Mic should be universal (only has 2 spacing lines). But no control function.
Hope this info helps

Thanks for the explanation.
As long as micro and middle button work, I am satisfied.
I'm not saying is your situation too. I'll just tell you about mine.
I've bought myself a Beats headset and because of the price, I was convinced it was genuine, but guess what? Is not...
At the 1st use I've seen the 2 volume buttons are not working so I thought like our colleague here "it have to be only for iPhone". Although, something bothered me so I've start to dig.
First of all, I've measured the HTC headset with an ohmmeter on the 2 contacts of the jack, near the cable. Each button push produce a different resistance, like is supposed to be. These resistances are measured by phone as well and it react consequently.
The big surprise was when I've done my measurements on the Beats as well. You'll never guess
The volume buttons effect = ZERO
Based on the "it have to be only for iPhone" theory, I want to be sure that those buttons are doing something in that headset, so I've disassembled the remote.
Once again you'll never guess... the 2 buttons (on my Beats headset) are simply not connected to anything
As a final test, I've took the headset from my wife's iPhone and put in my Sensation. It's working...
And by the way, the HTC headset (of my phone) is working completely on the iPhone as well.
In the end I've offered myself a couple of beers to help me accept the humiliation of being as fooled as I was.
Later edit
I've just read an article saying that "To those with beats headphones know that the volume buttons will never work on any android devices. The volume buttons are technically specific to I products (iPhone iPod etc) and HTC phones with beats audio."
Well I'm seriously having my doubts. Why? Because a colleague of mine, from office, has a very working Beats headset with his Android Galaxy and, like I've said, my HTC headset is working with my wife's iPhone (and I don't think is because we are relatives). Here is the article I'm not agreeing with. In the user review section.
I m using beats audio earphones and they are wrkng fearlessly.

Headphones w. Mic

Hello guys!
I'm interested in a pair of headphones/handsfree, but I've tried a few "universal" units and either the buttons or the mic doesn't work with the RAZR HD.
Is there any way we can identify which headphones/handsfree fit on our unit?
Thanks in advance.

I will try out my wife's Klipsch Reference One's when I get home and next week I will have a pair of Miles Davis Trumpets to try out too so I will let you know.

There are two specifications for implementing headset-based remote controls. One way is the way Apple implements headset controls. The other way is how everyone else in the industry implements headset controls. (sounds very "Apple-like" doesn't it?)
You can use this general rule:
If the headset says it works with the Apple iPhone, then it probably won't work for the Droid RAZR.
Quick example of this:
Klipsch Image S4: Version of headphones without headset controls.
Klipsch Image S4i: Same headphones, has headset controls that work with Apple iPhones (but not Android)
Klipsch Image S4a: Same headphones, has headset controls that work with Android.
Thanks for the input, but I have tried samsung galaxy s hands free for example and they don't work.

Just to be clear... the headphones and mic for these kinds of heatsets will always work regardless of intended Apple / Android manufacturer. Handling audio is just pure analog electrical signals.
However, the push button controls will depend on how the smartphone manufacturer implemented the control specifications. So even though your Dr. Dre Beats for your iPhone works for your Android smartphone, I'll bet that the buttons (Fast Forward / Rewind / Skip Track / Mute / Volume Up / Volume Down) does not work for Android the way that it works for iPhone.
I have been using Skullcandy ink'd with mic for over 6 months. At TjMaxx and Marshall's for $9.99. I also have Klipsch Promedia with Microphone. They both work flawlessly, but you can't go wrong with Skullcandy for the price. They sound awesome, come with lifetime warranty, and cost so little.
anyone can tell me if this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/A075-SKULLC...128&pid=100015&prg=1006&rk=1&sd=221066028978&
is compatible with razr hd?
thks a lot!
I would assuming they are the mic one they will. I have a pair of skullcandy fmj's and they work just fine. Also have a pair of Skullcandy 50/50 just the track control buttons don't work but the middle button and the mic work

Im very happy with it
Anyone else can suggest another headphone please?
Thanks
I have Klipsch X7i both the mic and the Play/Pause button work fine. Only volume buttons don't work.

[Q] do these phones support multi-button headsets?

I had a Razr HD & Razr HD MAXX ... those phones recognized only a single headset button.
Do these phones work with 3-button headsets? (forward, play, reverse) ... like Samsung & htc phones do?
What sucks is the droid maxx didn't come with head sets. I bought the blue tooth head set, that's wraps around your head from Moto and they support the function you are requiring about

I'm old school and stick to wired headsets.
Kind of weird that no one else uses 3-button headsets, i think they're the cat's meow.
My earbuds from my Galaxy Nexus is single button and does not work on my Maxx.

That's strange! I wonder if it's an issue with that particular headset. I've used a Galaxy S3 headset on both HTC & HD Maxx phone. (only the pause button worked on the maxx)
If you are bored and feel like investigating further, download and install "KeyTest.apk" on your motorola and see what it says when you press the headset button.

Xiaomi Piston 2 In-Line Mic?

Hi,
I've just received my Xiaomi Piston 2's and the in-line volume buttons don't appear to work on the Moto X. The central pause/play button works fine. They work fine on a Nokia Lumia that I have lying around, so I don't think it's a problem with the earphones. I haven't had a chance to test them in any other Android phones though.
Additionally I'm having an issue with Moto Voice. I can launch Moto Voice by pressing and holding the central button, but it appears to be listening through the phone's microphone, not the in-line mic on the earphones. When using Google voice search straight from the home screen it picks it up fine from the earphone's mic. The microphone works fine in-call. I am disappointed because one of the main reasons I purchased these was to use Moto Voice while cycling.
I'm on stock Lollipop 5.0. I haven't tested them on KitKat.
Anybody experience anything similar? Any tips or advice?
I have the same issue as you
My headset works fine with nexus 5 but not with Moto X
I have the same problem with 5.0.2 in my Moto X2 but in my Samsung S2 the volume buttons works fine, so as you said its a Moto X2 problem
The volume controls on all three of my headsets (various manufacturers) do not work on my Moto X. I'm pretty sure it's just not compatible with volume controls.
The earphone buttons work grand in my other phones...
Does anybody know any workaround or "fix" for this? I'd really love to be able to use these with my Moto X instaed of bringing the Windows Phone around with me...
I was reading reviews about the Xiaomi Piston 2.1 headphones and came across this:
"remapping the button controls on android are a little more challenging. Your options are apps in google play to do this, going to mi.com and downloading/flashing xiaomi mi launcher for android, or living with the mapping as is. Volume up down for the two button side and pause, or answer call on the one button side."

Thanks, but I think that's just for remapping them, they *should* work fine without assigning custom actions to them.
I'm after dropping my set out of my pocket while cycling home so unfortunately I can't test it...
OT: Does anybody have any suggestions for earphones that do work with the Moto X (specifically with Moto Voice through the in line mic) ?
Xiaomi Piston 3 - also not work with MotoX
I have a Xiaomi Piston 3 and only middle button works to play/stop music.
Anybody founds a solution for others buttons?
it probably is an uncompatibility with audio jack in moto x 2014. these headsets uses ctia plugs, while moto x 2014 uses omtp jack. dont know if a conversor would make it work.
ps.: sorry, i'm not good in english

I think that's the case. Moto x 2014 as well as Moto X 2013 just don't support volume controls on headsets. Shame on Motorola. Those were not budget phones to cut the functionality.
