[Q] tf700 JB to ICS downgrade vs same process on Prime - Asus Transformer TF700

I used to have a Prime and I read that once you went from ICS to JB, you could never downgrade due to the JB bootloader. However, it seems not the case on the TF700 as many downgrade to ICS to root then upgrade back to JB. Am I understanding this correctly? Is the software just that much different between these devices to do this? I was just curious about this. Thanks.

Yes, the tf700 you can downgrade back to ICS, the reason been is the ICS version .30 bootloader is using the same JB "Signature".

I'm afraid it didn't work.
I tried the oldest version though, the only one with the sh script.
Hello,
I managed to run the latest version and it seems we've got a problem. Apparently Transformers and Nexus 7 are not "permeable" to the exploit.
Needs to be investigated, there is a post in the Nexus 7 section...

Unfortunately, you can't re-lock your bootloader, as far as I know. So your choice is either upgrade to the Asus official Jelly Bean the hard way or flash a custom rom.
To upgrade to Asus official JB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845377
If you do upgrade to Asus JB manually, beware that you can't flash any other ROM aside from stock-based because of changes in the bootloader, so once you do upgrade you're limited to flashing 4 ROMs, i.e. CleanROM, Jelly Bean Hydro, and 2 other ROMs that I cant remember off the top of my head.
Or, you could flash Cyanogen Mod 10 (and ROMs based off of AOSP) without upgrading to the ASUS official JB, in which case you get to experience JB without changing your bootloader. Do this if you're not going to miss ASUS-specific apps. Here's the link to CM10 nightly build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845200
I recommend you go through this thread as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697227
Hope that helps bro.
And the next time, give a good title for your OP as ' i want to upgrade to JB' or something else, not your FB or People title who say nothing.
It will be better to give you a more appropriate help
Thanks in advance
yes thanks for the help im now on the asus jelly bean and will now look to installing a custom rom on there to get the best out of my device, and yes I must admit my title is pretty ****e and need to think before posting it lol

and you will see an another screen, and a another button : Go advanced (down - to the right, always) => click
a another screen, and on this screen, you can change the title of your OP
It's easy, isn't it ?

[Q] Picking up a refurb Xoom (Wifi) - how best to update, unlock, install ROM?

Hi all,
I am receiving a factory refurbished Wifi-only Xoom next week. I am guessing that it will be on 3.0, and I'd like to bring it up to the latest JB and install a custom rom (probably EOS 3 for the moment, then EOS 4 at the next MR).
What's the best procedure for this? Should I take OTA updates up to 4.1.2, then unlock, root and install a ROM? Or should I just unlock, root and flash a ROM from the start, i.e. skipping the OTA updates? Or does it not really matter?
Thanks in advance.

Not really answering your question, just an opinion .....
Why not just leave it on OTA 4.1.2? Unless you have a real need to unlock or some pressing need for 4.2. In my experience the difference between 4.1.2 and 4.2 is insignificant. EOS 3 is conceivably a back step on the OTA updates. Continually updating for updating's sake is fine if that is your hobby (and that is why you are here in these forums), but it might not achieve much. And you could replace a smooth stable 4.1.2 with a buggy and laggy 4.2 - for what?
If there is some app or function you need that requires root or a custom rom then that is a different story.
I am awaiting a refub MZ604 myself so I share you impulse, but I am taking a wait and see approach and giving it some thought.

Hey, thanks a lot for your advice. I wasn't so much counting on jumping ahead to 4.2 just yet, so I'm with you there.
Regarding a 4.1.1 ROM vs the 4.1.2 OTA, I had thought (just based on my personal experience with other Android devices, my Razr in particular) that a nice 4.1.1 ROM like EOS 3 would outperform stock, even a version that is one minor update ahead, since the ROM would (presumably) be optimized, free of bloatware, etc. Perhaps that's not a big issue with the Xoom?
Again, thanks. I'll probably take your advice and see how things go with 4.1.2 OTA for a while.
Interestingly, the refurbished Xoom came with 4.1.2 pre-loaded. I wasn't expecting that. Seems to be running fine.
Mine arrived today. It only took 11 days to cross the world. An MZ604 GED device. Came with 4.04 then promptly updated itself to 4.1.1 then a few minutes later it upgraded itself to 4.1.2. It is pure Android and runs fast and smoothly.
More than happy with this refurb - it looks brand new and 4.1.2 is new enough.

[Q] Rooted, unlocked on 4.1.1, How can I update to 4.2x?

I have a rooted and unlocked tf300t running 4.1.1 and CleanRom 2.5. After being away from the scene for awhile, I came back to see that they had released 4.2 for my device. Is it possible to update my device to 4.2 or am I stuck at 4.1.1 seeing as how I am not running an Asus firmware. I am really overwhelmed right now, and getting very frustrated. Any insight would be a tremendous help. Thank you very much for even taking the time to read my post.

I would say....
Return to stock Asus ROM v4.1
Reflash appropriate recovery...
Once stable, flash stock Asus 4.2...
Reflash appropriate recovery which will be different than 4.1 recovery.... Read the twrp thread carefully for info on this. If in doubt, there's an upgrade guide in the general section.

[Q] ICS 4.0.4 to JB 4.? Samsung S Relay

Hey there,
I just got a Samsung Galaxy S Relay and I am trying to figure out if I should upgrade it to Jelly Bean and which version.
The phone is not rooted, I am a newbie and I do not have a custom rom in there.
Before I do this, can I go back to ics if I don't like jb for some reason?
thanks so much

you should unlock it while on stock ics (read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2255892 - method works only on ics) and then you may update to stock jb/root/custom rom.
there is cyanogenmod 10.2 custom rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405310 - or you can use stock, root it and debloat.
yes, it is possible to revert to stock ics.

Thank you for that. I think I am too new to try a custom rom and root. I can suffer with the bloat because unlike the captivate, this phone, w a keyboard, has 4 gb for apps. on the captivate it had about 1.5 gb for apps after the os was installed. i really don't know what a custom rom is, really.
i watched a video comparing the jb to the ics and my 4.0.4 ics appeared to have almost all the improvements of the jb, so i don't know what the pros or cons would be upgrading to the jb, (I assume the latest jb version)
the last thing i want to do is slow my phone down, ruin battery life, or reduce my app space etc so i am just trying to get a feel for the pros of doing something like this.
ps i did hear it would make my phone faster....

the latest stock is jb 4.1.2
i do not know if stock jb is faster than stock ics as i have no experience with stock ics. cyanogenmod is faster than stock, but i use debloated stock jb anyway.
bloatware running in the background can slow down the phone.
