Why? - HTC One S

How come so many ROMs have 2-3 stops of flashing and it kinda scares me when I'm not that familiar with flashing images first than this than that, why do some ROMs like JellyBam just come as one flash and done again just asking? :banghead:
Thanks

I told you how to do it in that PM you sent me. You can use Flash Image GUI to flash the boot.img before flashing the rom.

Rainbow recovery and flashing rom

Hey everybody, so I might be posting in the wrong section but since its a question I figured I'd post in the Q&A. So my question is since I still have froyo BL and on CM9 can I still flash another rom even though my recovery has the rainbow effect? In recovery the top 1/3 is rainbow but the rest I can read good. I want to flash revolution rom. And I would Odin or heimdall back to stock and go from there but I have no PC. So yeah would it be safe to wipe all and flash revolution even though I'm on a froyo BL, blue CWM and on CM9?

Yeah, you have had to wait a really long time for an answer. I figured folks were just waiting for you to check out the other threads with the exact same question.
Just messing with you, and you'd really be fine to flash the rom that you want to flash. Your best bet would be to get set up right, though. To get rid of the rainbows, it's not too hard to get Gingerbread bootloaders. Follow the instructions in this post to a "t", including the part in the FAQ about how to get red CWM, and you'll have everything you need for a rainbow free rom flashing experience. It will get you set up on stock Gingerbread with custom recovery. Then you can flash any of the other available roms.:

Nibbles 1.6 Installation issues.

So I'm trying to install CvD Nibbles 1.6 and the installation goes well until about 70% of the way through and then it gives me this message.
Setting up Nibbles
Setting system permissions
file_get prop:failed to stat
"/rpm/aroma/kernel.prop" No such file or directory
Any help would be appreciated

what recovery are u using? u need to have twrp 2.3.3 installed
I'm using sk8's latest recovery version. If I switch to twrp how hard is it to switch back?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
y would u want to switch back lol? how often are u in recovery anyway to be honest. u only boot into it to flash a ROM. switch to it and see if that alleviates your issue.
I don't like Twrp that's why I would like to switch back. Lol

its broken... so switch. lol I don't see why u would switch back to something that can't correctly flash jellybean ROMs. Someone correct if I'm wrong but I do believe u need twrp to flash aosp based 4.2
How is it broken? And sk8's recovery can flash 4.2 roms correctly that was one of the first questions he was asked in his 4.2 compile thread.

This has been resolved in the Nibbles thread.
Recovery was not the problem. There's a bug in the installation process within Nibbles for the Base Install. Custom installation works fine. Check my thread for details.
Mods, please lock. Thanks!

[Q] About fastboot...

why exactly do i have to flash fastboot.img ? is it actually necessary ?
do i have to flash fastboot.img -every-single-time i want to flash a rom ?
sorry for asking, i've done some research and i simply couldn't find any kind of answer to my question.
i haven't actually done anything yet, because i know from experience that you don't want to mess with this stuff if you don't understand absolutely everything. i had a desire z before i got an HTC One S, and before i could just flash away with roms, taking my usual precautions like wiping of course.
Correctly it's named BOOT.IMG
Yes, if you're not s-off you have to flash it everytime you flash a ROM... otherwise you don't need it

So if I have s-off I don't need to flash boot.IMG. because I've flashed two different ROMs and I've been getting no vibrations

No vibrations is most likely an hardware issue or rom setting.

The boot.img contains (mostly) the kernel. If you are S-OFF, the boot.img file contained within the ROM's zip will be flashed during the installation of the ROM in recovery. If you are not S-OFF and you want to go with the boot.img (kernel) contained in the ROM, you have to fastboot flash the boot.img file separately.
As a side note - you don't have to flash the boot.img if you are not S-OFF. In fact, if you have a custom kernel you may not want to (or perhaps the kernel has not changed - as with many of the CM nightlies...)

Got a link to the ROM? You flashed?
And if you flash something like bb8 or cm10.1 or sense based does it work?

I flashed dirty unicorn deviant and root box none with vibrations. I'm trying to get on a sense ROM to see if it will fix vibrations. If it doesn't then it will be going back as there is a 1 year warranty

My phone has no vibrations since a long time now. I also installed a rom - miui i think - some month ago and since this time there were no more vibrations any more ony any rom i tried. So i think, it is a hardware problem.

From what I've read it is a problem on a decent amount of one s phones where the vibrator module flakes out. If the sense ROM I'm gonna try doesn't work then I'm.sending it back in

[mod][for the phones bootng only to recovery] solution inside

your phone is booting to recovery only ,after installing custom recovery
here is the solution.
1.if you want to install custom rom and gapps, install twrp recovery
and install rom,gapps,and other mods
2.now your phone will not boot to system
3.after installing custom rom you need to install this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=928219&d=1330695090
see the video it is explained
if you are stuck in recovery mode you need to flash bootloader
you are saying that you need to flash again stock recovery( if i want to have custom recovery and i'm stuck in custom recovery and after i flash stock recovery what's the deal ?? ).. you're wrong in my opinion
here it is the solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24831012&postcount=1330
edit: i also think this thread is useless because in i9001 wiki page you'll find th solution for this problem and much more and even in some OP you'll see
edit 2: your video it's really cool.. i've just learned so much from it ))))
Here is the Proper fix

Thanks for your effort but this is already known for a long time by almost everyone.
I had use today odin for a long time. Probably haven't flashed anything via odin at least in 6 months or more.
I got bootloop to recovery. Now it's working.
Wow, thanks for the effort you've put in making this thread, and even making a video, but next time, use THE SEARCH BOX.

Flashoholics!!

Just trying to be helpful here, here is a faster way to get from stock one-click to JB goodness.....
After you flash to stock with antonx kernel reboot into recovery and flash bhundvens blastoff kernel, reboot recovery, now you should be in blue 5.0.2.8....flash the newest cm9, it will reboot automatically into recovery for you to flash a second time, but don't, instead flash a JB Rom, (I flashed chaos from dao) once it rebooted into recovery...jellybean recovery, I flashed the Rom plus gapps. Rom booted just fine.
So.....save a little time from completely flashing the whole rom, waiting for it to boot and rebooting into recovery just to do it again till you get where you want.....cheers
hopefully it saves you some time
************************just like everyone else says "I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE"*****************
just one-click back and start over hee hee!!!!
If you're saying flashing a kernel with CWM 5.x and then flashing a JB ROM is faster, we all know that already.
You are not flashing the kernel first technically. What you are doing is converting the file system.
However I thought all the JB roms had the mtd conversion script included. If they dont I would ask the person that ported them to update it with that script. There should never be a reason to flash to ics then jb.

Getting back to stock and rooting are totally different subjects and shouldn't be asked in ROM threads anyways. Flashing the ROM are always in the OP.

If you go back to our early JB ROMs
It was said to flash cm 9 or be on
a ICS ROM first if coming from GB.
Its said to be different now...
I still don't trust it..out of habit and
because it has always worked..
If I one-click back to stock I always
flash cm9 first then flash JB.
