I've been having a problem with my Fuze randomly not being able to receive text messages or calls.
Sometimes when people call, they say it rings twice and goes to voice mail. All the while, I never hear anything or get a notification. This happened once after I texted someone to call me when they get a chance. They tried 3 times and then texted me back to say that they were getting sent to voice mail. I didn't get notification for either until after I called this person myself 20 minutes later. Right when the call connected, I got notification of a new text message.
Another time, somebody was calling me for 3 days. I didn't know he was trying to reach me until he finally left a voice mail and I got the notification for that (no missed call notifications).
I called AT&T and their tech support did some tests (called my phone) but since it isn't reproducible 100% of the time, they couldn't offer any explanation.
This isn't a bars/signal issue either as this is occurring in the same spot where my Tilt would always receive calls fine.
Has anyone else seen this?
I had the exact same problem with my Sprint Touch Pro & ended my contract early & switched to at&t. Hopefully it's not a fundamental hardware problem.

Did you get a Fuze when you switched? Has that worked better for you? I'm still within my 30 days, so I'm debating exchanging it or just returning it and giving up.
I'm having the same problem. I did a quick search and found this;
This AT&T Forum Post
I tried the workaround and haven't had a chance to really test it yet though. I also noticed a few other settings in there that might have accounted for it.
One selection inside the phone settings had to do with whether calls went to voicemail when you're "Unavailable" or "Busy." I'm not familiar enough with the phone to know when it might tag me as either one so I unchecked both and I'm going to recreate my missed calls this morning.
Someone called after the phone had been sitting on my desk all night so I thought maybe it thought I was "Unavailable" due to inactivity (I dunno, I'm winging it) so I'm letting it idle for a few hours and getting a call later to see what happens.
Incidentally I have the exact same problem, no call coming in, but then I get the voicemail message after I try calling someone.
Unless I'm misunderstanding your point, "Unavailable" just means that your phone is switched off or out of signal, and "Busy" means you are already in a call. It's nothing to do with the behaviour or features of the phone.
Cheers,
Steve.
Yeah, I'm wondering if the phone is becoming "Unavailable" for some other reason than me being out of range. I have full bars in the house and that's where this all happened.
I've noticed, too, that I didn't get any email (I have it set to check every hour, even hit send/receive after someone told me they sent me something and it still didn't find it until I sent a second email to myself from another address)
Again, I don't know much about phones but it almost seems like the phone has bars but drops off the network for accepting calls/messages until you do something to activate the system again... or something. I dunno, just speculating.
Last week I went in and exchanged my Fuze for a new one since it was still within the 30 days. Up until tonight, I thought the problem was fixed. I was chatting with my wife over IM and she told me that she tried to call but that it just went to voicemail. I asked her to call back and leave a voicemail to see if it would notify me. I also asked her to send me a text. I didn't get notification for either. I checked my data connection by starting up Opera and going to a few sites. So I know that I had a verifiable connection to the network. I called my voicemail and checked the message I knew that she had left. Only after I made the call did I get notifications for the text messages I had missed. I never got any notification for the voicemail or missed calls.
Unfortunately, it seems this is a problem that isn't related to individual hardware as this is my 2nd phone with the same problem. I've also replaced my SIM card since a salesperson at an AT&T store suggested that it might help. I'm running the stock AT&T ROM minus the bloat, so it's not a custom ROM issue either. At this point, I'm not sure what I should do.
The only other thing I can think of that makes me unique is that I currently reside in Washington state but my number is one that I had ported from California. Is there anything about you're (skyau) situation that makes you unique?
Well the same thing happened again tonight. I received text messages 10 minutes late and I didn't get a voicemail notification until I initiated a call. As much as this sucks, I'm hoping it will stay this consistent so that I can have tech support replicate the problem and then try and fix it.
You may have a problem with your phone number. I'd try changing it.
Have you had experience with a problem like this? Is the phone number really the issue?
If that's what the problem actually is, I'm willing to get a new number. But I don't want to change it just to check and see if that fixes it.
same problem! Really pissing me off I just lost a important job because of this issue a few moments ago! Is everyone running a stock rom? I tested a few, now back to stock no apps nothing trying to find this gremlin WTF!
I'm running stock ROM without the bloat.
I exchanged my Fuze (I'm now on my 3rd) on Saturday and changed my phone number yesterday. I'm waiting to see if the issue happens again. If it does, I'll probably do stock ROM, all the bloat, no apps. If there are still problems, I'll probably try different ROMs.
I was able to get AT&T tech support on the line when the problem was occurring luckily. We went through his battery of tests and he verified that there was a problem. It would seem that the phone forgets/loses it's connection to the towers/network. Notifications (calls, texts, voicemails) aren't received until after the phone remembers/reconnects to the network. It remembers/reconnects when you initiate a call or send a text (essentially require the phone to use the network).
The tech told me that as far as he could tell, it was a hardware issue and that I should exchange my phone. So I'm on number 3 now and hoping for the best. I changed my number because I've been in a different state for 2 years and I had no ties to previous area code. So I figured now was as good a time as any to get a full fresh start (phone/number/SIM).
That sucks about losing the job.
Bump, I just realized a few moments ago that my phone rings once and then it says missed call, i always assumed they called me and then hung up after one ring in case i was in class or i was busy so that i could call them back. this is not the case? Also a few cases a call will drop every now a then... is this due to the radio rom i flashed? typical symptoms of a incompatible radio for a specific location? I'm using the .25.35 blackstone radio in ithaca, ny.
Having the same issue. Phone is asleep, then alerts me to a VM. Missed call doesn't show up in missed call list.
Really pissing me off and I think is responsible for my issues with Slide2Answer somehow.
The only time I have missed calls is because of MSVC. If someone calls and it is private or unknown, it will not ring. If it is somebody in my phone book or who doesn't have a private number, the phone will ring.
So I turned MSVC off and the private callers and the unknown callers will ring in.
it happens to me sometimes as well sometimes the d pad area will flash but i cant answer and it wont appear on screen then it wont say missed call.
sometimes if i try to hit the dial button it will also drop connection and instantly pick it up again
annoying but not a huge problem for me
and of course not on stock rom
I'm opening this thread as a place where we can get a few of us together and hopefully work on creating some patches to fix these 2 bugs.
As a background, when running an AOSP based ROM:
1. You will always receive a voicemail notification regardless of whether or not one is present or not. Additionally, this happens when using Google Voice. It appears that a flag is stuck somewhere despite setting the Voicemail app to Google Voice.
**FIXED SEE UPDATE** 2. Using the Stock Messaging App, it is unable to properly split the messages into 160 character segments. The message, after a few minutes, simply fails to send.
Both of these should be happen regardless of whether one runs CM6 or AOSP 0.x.x as it happens in all ROMs that are built from scratch. Thus, our build environment should not be limited to any one particular ROM provided it is an AOSP ROM. That said, while my phone is running AOSP 0.9.7, I will be debugging using the Master Branch of the Android Repository (Running OSX 10.6)
As in all development threads, people need to have fairly extensive programming experience (C and Java). While testing is appreciated, *please do not post in this thread offering assistance*.
Hopefully we can fix these 2 things that continue to persist.

Edit: I have the SMS 160 character problem fixed. Here is the URL. Use ./adb remount and ./adb push to install the updated Mms.apk and reboot. Mms.apk

agreed about cm6.

You can remove the phantom voicemail icon in CM6?
I know sprint VVM works but idk about the notification ever going away for good

Well I just never had a phantom voicemail in CM6 ever since I've been using it. Have you guys tried removing VVM and using Google Voice?
Yeah, no issues here with those on CM 6.1.0
I've never had an issue with phantom voicemail notifications using Google Voice. However, I did have an issue with autosplit on SMS. Last time I tried to send a text that required to be split into 2 texts, it failed to send. I haven't tried it recently though.

Yeah, that's just an AOSP limitation
I dont have the phantom VM in either CM or AOSP. I get rid of the 9016 Text by using Super Private Conversation (an older version than on the market). Also my texts split already. But instead of 160 characters, it splits using the GSM standard of 140. My phone has always split the texts at 140 regardless if I'm running stock sense or a custom ROM.

160 characters should be easy to circumvent with a (albeit trivial description) simple conditional that:
A. Creates a new message with the same parameters specified in the first one.
B. Checks to ensure that this happens upon hitting 160 characters
It shouldn't hard.
I'm not sure about all the people not getting the Phantom Voicemail notification. I have had it on every single AOSP based ROM I have flashed. Numerous other people do as well.

What makes you think I haven't. I have the entire Android source code, have successfully built it, and am currently sifting through lines of code trying to find where the affected areas are.
My phone is running AOSP 0.9.7 and I have duplicated both problems with CM6, CM6 Nightlies, and CM6.1. With regards to the Phantom Voicemail, the only known workaround is to use Handcent and Sprint VVM and blacklist the 2 messages that you receive containing the VVM info.

The problem should occur when using Google Voice only. The 9016 is the "push" that Sprint does to the Sprint VVM and is normally consumed by Sprints version of VVM.
I forgot that the 9016 isn't the Phantom part and that the "Voicemail Notification" when using GV is. I'll fix the OP.

Also remember that Sprint uses a rather odd system for Voicemail on Android phones. There is 2 seperate places where the Voicemail is saved. They must both be deleted to get rid of the notification. Meaning you have to call 2 seperate number. Your regular Sprint VM (own number) and another number... cant remember off the top of my head tho.

(As far as i know this only works on Sprint)
This was discussed long ago, and i got my sms messages to stop by doing my old reply quoted below: (it just won't stop the VM icon from appearing)
It's also been said, you can switch your account to another phone, activate it, clear out all your messages, then switch your account back to your phone. That will solve your Ghost VM Icon.

I've heard different results about that method, also if you don't have two phones it doesn't really help out at all. Don't mistake what I'm saying as an insult or knocking your method. I just know there's a way to fix this issue we just haven't found it yet
If you stop the SMS Messages, I'm not sure how the Sprint VVM knows how to pull the messages from the server. Regardless, that is something that will happen when using any non-Sprint based ROM unless we modify the stock messaging app to consume those messages.
The Voicemail Notification when using something other than Sprint VVM; however, has no known solution yet.
-Kevin
The "phantom" voicemail notification is different from the SMS messages from Sprint. This is a change made in the Message Waiting state in the android system which triggers a notification "New Voicemail Dial..."
I use CM6 and Google Voice and still get the notification, along with others from the CM6 forums.
I created an issue here with CM6:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=2507
Please star or comment to help get this looked into.
In your google voice settings (web login) go to: settings->voice settings->calls(tab). On the very bottom, uncheck "Place missed calls in the inbox".
Perhaps this is the "phantom" voice you are referring to?

Kevin I use to run CM6 then switched to Jaybob's then back to CM6 RC1. Tried some nightlies but after the RC1 experience I have been running AospMod for a while. I haven't used sprints VVM since running damages sense 2.1 roms who knows how long ago and I have never had a phantom voicemail on any Froyo ROM. I have seen various people talk about it but I not even sure what it would look like? Just an FYI

That's so weird. I'm not sure what the explanation is in that case.
As far as what it looks like, the phone will alert you on start up as well as when you switch towers that you have a Voicemail and to dial the number that was set (Even if you aren't using a number as you are using Google Voice).
Even if you call the number, there is nothing there. You can clear the notification every time, but it will just come back.
If anyone has the Master Branch made with gmake, the NotificationMgr.java seems to be contain part of the code for the phantom voicemail; however, it looks to call a method that is returning the wrong value (I haven't been able to debug it yet).
At the same time, it seems like the block of code in NotificationMgr.java that concerns the VM notifications is called after determining that there is a notification, so I'm still somewhat stumped.
-Kevin
I have both the SMS and the VM issue on both CM6 and DDv2.8. I just reverted back to DD b/c I find it runs a lot faster on my HeroC.
I would love to get a fix for both of these issues! Good job starting a thread!
Hello!
I recently got a Droid Eris to replace my aging Rooted G1, and am got it all set up on Verizon. My intention was to use Skype for all calls and not get a voice plan, as I already use Skype as my business line anyways.
I installed the hacked .apk, and after several initial troubles got a call to go through over 3g. However since then, unless I am on wi-fi, I have massive issues making and sending calls over 3g.
When calls come in, Skype rings, I hit answer, and it goes into the screen like you are in the call however it keeps ringing and never actually answers the call. From that point on, unless i restart Skype, it just keeps popping up that call as incoming in the top taskbar.
Outgoing most of the time just fail to go through.
Is this normal with the hacked Skype, or am I just having weird problems?
(Note: I have reinstalled Skype twice already)
Thanks!
Bumping this to see if anyone knows anything. I got about 2 hours left to cancel the pre-paid plan and still get all my $ back, so if anyone knows hit me back!
Thanks!

EDIT: I previously said I had Eclipse installed. I've been rooting phones left and right. The last phone I rooted I installed Eclipse on......sorry for the mix up.
I've had people say they keep getting my voice mail after multiple rings. Then I would call my phone to test it out. I would have full bars 3g/4g and I wouldget voice mail after a few rings. So I restarted my phone and all seem to work fine. Just happened again and I tested it a few times, not being able to ring my phone. So I just turned off WiFi and then I was able to receive calls. Not sure if WiFi really had anything to do with it. I turned Wifi back on and calls still rang in.
Anyone heard of this issue?
I have CWM with Stock bloatfree ROM.
Thanks.

I would try to gather more information like if toggling wifi is the only way to get it back or if its just reception...I think the app phone info would be helpful here to give you information on when it is and isn't working...Also I would check in with the Eclipse ROM forum and see if anyone else has had these issues.
I actually have a Stock Bloat-Free Rom installed on my GS3. I Just installed Eclipse on my brothers phone and just went brain dead for a minute.
Hey OnePlus fam,
I just thought I would put this out as PSA for anyone on Verizon and having issues with SMS or MMS, as there is little information out there on this for our specific phones.
If you are unable to send or receive any text messages it is most like that the "CDMA-Less" feature needs to be activated.
You can call Verizon and ask them to enable "CDMA-Less" to your account.
Hope this helps
I had to get a new sim card that fixed my problem
Here are also a few links too; the first two are for a 6T but to concept still applies.
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/no-incoming-sms-or-mms-on-verizon.935610/
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/verizon-text-messages.937506/
VZW information
https://opendevelopment.verizonwireless.com/faqs?s=LTE
Had the same issue.
Called Verizon and asked them to enable this device as CDMA-less.
Been working perfect since.
Same here. I inserted my Verizon sim in the international version. Data at 50Mbps, Voice, Visual Voicemail and outgoing text messages worked. If it doesn't work for you, make sure you are using slot 1. It may matter. If you have a very old sim, you might need a new one.
I called Verizon and carefully explained that incoming sms was not functional as this was a next generation phone for a world where Verizon turns off their CDMA at the end of 2019 and SMS is routed over LTE. I instructed him to make sure "CDMA-less" was available both in the billing account and the network account. After a bit of digging he found the provisioning settings. Seconds after the phone was provisioned, sms started flooding in the stock message app. Also make sure IMS Basic Visual Voicemail is on your account if VM is giving you trouble. I use VZW Message+ (Verizon Messages) for sms as I can text from a PC also and it will restore previous sms.
By definition the phone uses VOLTE so there is no setting for HD Voice in the phone. That feature is required on your Verizon account but you would have to be switching from an ancient phone not to already have that. I cannot locate any option for Wifi calling and it does not work in airplane mode. I have a google voice number which allows Wifi calling. Interestingly it errors when the phone is in airplane mode but works when cell service is on. It reports "Wifi Call" and appears to use the stock dialer when initiated from the Voice app. Somehow Voice is even more tightly integrated with the stock dialer now than just trapping and routing international calls. This is a bug of sorts as my Moto phone on 8.0 could call in airplane mode with wifi on.
Google Duo appears to be integrated in the dialer but I haven't tried with my wife's Pixel to see if I can switch to Duo while on a regular voice call.
Bootloader unlock was simple: Tap Build # 6x, Developer Options - OEM unlocking, adb reboot recovery, fastboot oem unlock [This erases the phone]
The 7 Pro is an amazing device! Truly the most amazing. I'm really excited. The phone is super super slippery and a drop magnet. It does come with a TPU case.
I'm going to sell my kid's mint 5T and upgrade him too!
BT sucks worse than the Moto phone but I think that is an Android thing as my wife's pixel as issues to with her car. Contacts not syncing and calls not going through while connected to BT. Just have to do work arounds when I have some time.
Hoping video is fixed for the wide camera. They are amazing; but then, I'm coming from a Moto phone which has the worst cameras. Sony knows what they are doing.
Sorry to wake an old thread but did not want to start a new one.
I have verizon and have cdma-less provisioning done already. Have HD voice on the account as well. SMS works fine but I can only send MMS not receive them.
Ive tried moving sim card to other slot, tried reboot, tried factory reset, tried different apps...nothing.
The only time MMS fully works is when I am in safe mode. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?
Thank you

Super weird that verizon messages work but not the stock app or the Mood SMS app.

I downloaded a couple other SMS apps and they all work fine. So leads me to believe its just something weird with the stock app and with Mood SMS. I will switch to QKSMS for now and requested assistance from Mood SMS so they could take a look. Thanks all.
I'm going to guess MMS didn't work with that app while you were on wifi? Some apps don't know how to route MMS data properly when there both data and wifi available.
It's an option that has to be enabled on the account for Verizon customers, it's the cdma-less option. It took me a couple representatives til one of knew what I was talking about lol
I think his issue is slightly different as he can recieve sms but not mms and it varies on the app he's using.

No that I already checked. I still have not figured out why I cannot receive MMS on the stock app or on mood SMS. Mood had not replied to my email. I switched to qksms and have no issues anymore.
So ya if anyone else runs into something like I did, try different SMS apps
Yup, I learned this very quickly when I got the OnePlus 6t. Just getting them to understand that the phone was certified on VZW. Then 4 techs before one knew what to do. I think they now can address quickly even over chat.

I'm not sure
Yeah, there's a lot more to this than enabling CDMA-less. Before about a month ago data/sms/MMS wasn't working on Android 10 based custom roms and MMS still doesn't work unless you use Messages+.
I get both fine I just have issues with them being received after the phone goes idle for a while. My issues are small stupid crap mile messenger not closing with home button all the time and and Gboard sometimes won't type into the field I'm in
