I received some feedback asking me to post instructions on how I made my game clip to hold my phone (Galaxy S III) to a PS3 controller (homemade or DIY Gameclip). I have posted a pdf of the instructions on mediafire and attached a 7zip file of it to this post.
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?gg4lyu663854moa
I first of all would like to say I got the idea from the thread of the GameKlip and thought it was a brilliant idea and a nice product, but I didn't want to spend $30 U.S. (incl. shipping) and wait a couple weeks to get one....and I couldn't keep my case on the phone while I used it, so I made my own. Kudos to the GameKlip if you are interested in getting one.
Here's the latest Gameklip for the Galaxy s3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2027611
I do love using my GameKlip... when not using my extended battery (which I have on most of the time). This will solve all! I wonder if some sort of insulation for pipe/etc could be used to further cushion the phone... hmmm.... Maybe one of the rubber coated hangers.
Either way, how did I not think of this?! I tried sheet metal and other way more complex options, lol.
I'll post my rendition of this! Hope to try it out tonight!
THANKS AGAIN!

Thank you. I have thought about something like plasti-dip ... dip the whole thing after making it...probably would just have to take into account the thickness if the coating while making it.
http://www.homedepot.com/buy/performix-brand-plasti-dip-11603-6.html#.UP1_eGdmO2U
I look forward to seeing your idea of it, please post pics. I have thought of different ways to "design" it, including having only one arm holder at the top. Making the bottom "hooks" up from the button 1 & 2 "towers" to move the phone up, etc... in the mean-time it works well for me...I hope yours does for you.
I got some Plasti-Dip at home I use on my car and thought of that as well. I got a few different ideas I'm gonna try to play with. ... Just a matter of finding time as wife and I are preparing for our firstborn. I'll definitely post pics of whatever I come up with!
possible to do a similar style but for a mini bluetooth keyboard? im having a hard time figuring out that one....
I am sure something is. I don't have a mini blue tooth keyboard. Which one do you have?
Have you seen the universal gameclip? It just sticks to a cheap case? How about a flat piece of metal stuck to case with the phone and velcro'd to the bottom of the keyboard? Could even bend it slightly if you don't want it flat?

Excellent job
That looks pretty darn snazzy. I know I would be employing the "Close enough" meme if I tried to do that.
I have been thinking of something like this but I must design a little differently as I will use it on an xbox360 controller and a 7 inch tablet.

Please post pics for anyone else who may want that setup. I don't have an xbox controller so I couldn't try...it definitely looks a bit trickier. Good luck.
Thanks. I will make pictures for sure. Still in the planning phase for the moment but will work on it next week.
Tried three times and failed. Baby en route, so it's on the back burner.
BTW: the rubber coated hangers SUCK to bend, rubber tears easily! Don't waste one!
I made one with 1 hook on top to hold the phone. The bend makes it act like a spring. It's easier to get the phone out of this one

I made mine using your instructions; I strongly encourage you to get some shrink wrap tubing. It looks much better than whatever old varnish the coat hanger may have left, and there won't be glue smudging as with electrical tape.
I happened to have a slightly larger tube which I used on the hook portion. To make the tips, after having deburred with a file, I simply left some extra length, bent that backwards and finished it off with an additional short tube added in a second pass.
It is preferable to make your bends first, then work the tubing on, as pliers will most likely damage the tubing cosmetically at least.
A small black zip tie secures the mini-USB cable. Not shown in the photos, I found an old camera lanyard and added over the metal frame for some additional security.
Here are the results:
Cheers,
Darkshado
Awesome! Thanks for posting pics! I use the sixaxis app so I don't need the wires but yours looks great with them. I like the tubing too. Your are of course absolutely right about no gummy from the tape with the tubing. I bet it makes it stickier too so the phone won't slide around.

Looks awesome, I'm definitely going to attempt one myself. What diameter heat shrink did you use? (approx)
Thanks! IIRC, the smaller one was 4-5 mm, the larger 10 mm. It can always be cut and removed if the size you're using isn't working, and tubing like this is cheap.
LONG overdue but needless to say I've failed at 3 attempts. Trying to get them perfect and they snap on me. Might just try to mod one of my 1st Gen Game Klips I got laying around since I now have the 7000mAh battery to give me PLENTY of gaming!
Guys its a lot easier to buy a spider podium and wrap it and shape it to fit your phone. Worked perfectly. Only downside is that its unremovable. Just added a camera lanyard

I'm looking for a 'screen protector' for the keyboard. Similar to what comes on the phone when they are new.
I haven't been able to find any online, does anyone know of one available?
There's isn't really a keyboard protector out there. There's only a rubber case that includes a rubber case for the keyboard.
I ordered myself one of these,
http://cgi.ebay.com/White-Silicone-...151471?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item255fdda62f
I recommend the light colors so you'll be able to see the keyboard and know what you're pressing. I made the mistake of buying the black one and I can't even see what I'm typing in light. Only when its dark you'll see the keyboards black light.
I am thinking about making my own template for a keyboard cover that will cover the exposed areas around the edges of the keyboard as well as in between each key... in fact, now that I've read this, I'm going to start working on it right now.
if I get something worked out that is functional, I'm not opposed to loaning you my template so you can create your own custom cover. I'm planning on making it a one piece template and using one of the ZAGG screen-cover blanks that you can buy from office supply stores for simplicity's sake.
if it works, I'll post a write-up.
Wont this result in a less haptic keyboard?
I mean, this Phone is bought because of the nice keyboard and when you put something over it, it isnt as good as before?!
the silicon "cover" would, in my opinion, make the keyboard less usable, but a thin strip of film won't affect its function.
to each his own!
I've still got the factory one on mine, but it is barely hanging on so thought i'd replace it. Will make a perfect template hopefully.
Whats the best way to cut it out?

you lucky dog!! I have been using tissue paper and drawing it with a pencil, haha.
since you already have a perfect template, I would just use a craft knife of some sort. a steady hand and some patience should yield a pretty decent template.

i can scan it in if you'd like and post it up, might save you some time?

Lol why would you waste your time doing that. You could just buy a silicone case that has the keyboard cover and use that template! Unless you're too cheap to buy one

I guess I could do that, but then I have to wait for it to ship, and then I have a silicon case that I don't want. just seems wasteful, and I'm not a wasteful person. good idea for others who want to try and do the same thing though.

I have been looking for one without any hard material one it. Is there one without a keyboard cover?
Anyone found a suitable armband to go running/work out in while keeping my lovely g2x safe and sound from falling out or getting my sweat all over?
or if you have a universal sized armband and are having success with your g2x in it please do share your experiences!

yea i looked at those armbands that are on amazon and I am not too wild about them... right now my biggest candidate is the adidas miCoach armband...

though it is nylon and i dont know how i feel about nylon... i would prefer neoprene...
looking for an armband as well. All I saw were those few amazon entries and one bad review that said the phone sticks up above the cover. I might go to target and try a bunch for the iphone.

Well I am going to take one for the team, I ordered the one that amazon has listed with the ONE bad review... for 17 bux shipped so its whatever...
i went to best buy today and opened a bunch of boxes of stuff and nothing seemed to really fit... i tried the miCoach for the IP4 and it was a huge fail
I pondered using my tunebelt from my nexus one and just getting a different silicone case but with the phone being as big as it is and 12 grams heavier that it may be a little too flimsy and flopping around for my liking...
I want something with the form factor that the amazon armbands or miCoach has where the phone fits into a sleeve and wont flop around... assuming the phone does not stick out literally an inch and the phone will stay in when I am jogging or doing plyometrics, i will be happy with my purchase...
full review to come when i get it...
Thanks looking forward to the review.

Thanks for your upcoming review I appreciate that
Ok so here is my review of the VanGoddy Armband for the G2x/O2X/EVO4g/Atrix/any other giant ass phone!
(Picture album is linked on the bottom of the post)
First off I would like to state what sort of view I am coming from as to eliminate any bias by stating my biases from the get go. I am a slim, athletic body type, 14 inch biceps, 6 foot, 160 pounds. I typically will be doing a lot of running with this device and I referee soccer and will often strap it on while I run a game so I can track my positioning, distance, ect. so I wanted a band that would not be too gaudy and I could hide a bit under my sleeves (underarmor and uniform sleeves). Since again running was my main use with some use in the gym I wanted stability while holding the device so it was not sliding around, flopping around or possibly flying out of the pocket. The other main feature I was looking for was material quality and anybody that works out knows neoprene is clutch especially for people who sweat a large amount, like myself, when I work out or go running. Tad bit of personal information for ya there!
The unboxing and first impressions: VanGoddy shipped it in a bubble wrap envelope, nothing fancy and the item did not need anything fancy. Right away when I looked the thing over I could tell that the pocket to hold the phone looked a tad large for my phone and that the plastic screen was cheap and small. Just putting the armband on, I put it on as tight as I could get the velcro to go and it was a perfect fit, very snug and even tighter when I flexed how my arms would be while running.
Upon slotting the phone in I noticed two things, the clear screen cover does in fact suck, and the phone will fall out of the slot naturally. The device was definitely made with a "universally wide" pouch and I would argue favors the wider phones such as the Atrix, Evo4g and DX; our slim phones got the shaft in this design. I put the armband back on, tightened up, even loosened it a hair from where I had it last time and boom! it actually felt pretty good. Swinging my arm around the phone was pretty snug, I could not get it to fall out regardless of what I was doing which earned it some "do points" in the do or die ratings! I would clear this for use in the gym for bench pressing and doing other strange arm angle lift routines.
Onto the screen cover. This was my biggest grip with this thing. You do not get a lot of cover real estate to work with and the way the cover was stitched into the armband was absolutely thoughtless because it does not even come close to sitting flush with the screen. The part that is stitched around the screen on the outside is a flexible plastic and on the inside they overlapped material so that the screen is not sitting against the plastic cover screen. (See picture overlap flap) This caused another problem that annoyed me a little, if the phone shifted in the slot too much to one way or the other the edge of the phone would get caught on one of these flaps on the inside around the screen edge and offset the phone. It did this twice during my little 3 mile jog while I was trying to skip a song. Getting to the notifications bar while in the slot is damn near impossible, I had no trouble hitting the softkeys but the notification bar is inaccessible. This is partly due to the long "ass" our phones have so the top part of our screens will not be within the clear cover's viewing range.
I did and do not play with the phone much while running because I have very satisfying playlists. Handling touches through the screen was about on par with other covers of similar thickness. I did not really have a problem executing touch commands but changing the volume was a little weird since I had to essentially just squeeze and guess where the volume buttons were on the side. On the bright side, because the screen is not very tight to the screen and the neoprene resists water, I never noticed the screen to fog up on me.
All in all for $17 something cents shipped this is not a terrible armband by any means. It is no 30-40 dollar custom phone fitting armband but it is not so cheap that I just pitched it laughing at what I bought, I would say I got what I paid for and maybe a bit more. Score wise I would give this guy a 7/10. It is good but it definitely has some shortcomings. If you are skinny and dont have at least a 13inch bicep I would not recommend you purchase this device, for fear of it sliding off of your arm. Get used to running with this on your left arm, I found the cord positioning much better and it was getting tangled less around my arm.
Some things I would have liked to see and would be a more quality screen cover. A bit more velcro (one more inch) to possibly go tighter for maybe some more extreme sports or intense working out and for smaller biceps. A slot for a Key is always a nice addition but I usually find a place in whatever pair of shoes I have; sliding it behind the phone you would risk it flying out, I would bet money that it flies out on smaller biceps.
If you are looking for something to get the job done then this is the device for you because it does exactly that. It does not do it extremely well, wow, or impress me in any way but it for 17 bucks it served my needs. Again 7/10 from me...

Hey whats up guys,
I just purchased this item from Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XYQWXI)
I just got this in the mail today, have not gotten a chance to use it.
I will try to give it my best to review this product.
-Product feels pretty good, solid build quality, doesn't feel like cheap ****
-The phone fits perfectly well if you are NOT using a phone case. I tried to put the phone in with a TPU case, and it did not fit.
-Trying it on my arm, it feels pretty tight and snug. (Not sure if that's how armbands are supposed to feel. My arm feels constricting a bit, I don't think this is feasible if you are going to work out your arms?) ... But I will update this part after I have used it tonight working out my back and biceps.
-There's a cool section for your to put your headphone wire in so it doesnt hang all over the place.
Check out the pictures, I will try to update this more. If you have any questions I can try to answer them here.

Thanks for the review...I"m looking forward to your update. I'm very interested in knowing how this will work for you during arms workouts...and how it would appear to hold up to sweat.
On that note, what earpieces do you use that won't break down from sweat quickly?

Alright in response on how it felt when I was working out my arms. Either I am not an Armband type of guy (I usually wear a tank top or sleeve cut off shirt). I feel as if this thing gets in the way. Not sure if u guys know what I mean when you work out upper body and u like your arms to be free of anything.
The arm band felt like those things you put on your arm when yhou are testing your blood pressure at the doctor... very tight especially if you are working out your biceps.
I think this is good if you do cardio, or lower body exercises that do not require the use of the arms...
The material was okay in regards of sweat... I did not notice it leaking through and touching my phone at all. I personally thought it was going to be very itchy and annoying like how some kneebraces are now made with that neoprene type of material.
With the headphones, I have some type of rubbery material heaphones. There like 10 bucks or something I dont really care if they get messed up though.
Throughout the whole workout experience I can remember adjusting it almost after every set so it can get comfortable... Towards the end of my work out I just put it in my pants... LOL
So if you are not the arm band type of guy, do not get this. Only use it for cardio exercises or lower body so it wont bother you as msuch as it bothered me working out upper body.
Also the wire management part in the first Amazon provided picture, is VERY small you cant fit fat wires or many layers of wires if you guys understand what i mean...
With the front protector clear plastic thing, it wasn't too bad, basically it kind of felt like those ZAGG invisihields over your phone.
Gave it another go last night working out abs and legs, it didn't bother me as much compared doing upper body.

My corners are stripped from drops and i want to resell it in january when i get my note 2. So i bought a new battery and battery cover now i just need to find a way to repaint the chrome bezel, any ideas?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
The problem is any paint is probably going to scratch off fairly quickly as its only going to be painted on the surface. They are certain spray paints that bond better with the actual plastic, but the name escapes me right now. Also, to get the bezel off, I think you have to strip it right down and remove the screen as well which needs a heat gun. I've have my system nearly apart except for the lcd/screen heatgun thing, and the bezel never came off.
Im just looking to paint over im very new when it comes to all this im just looking for a simple way to do it.

Well I'm trying to tell you there isn't a simple way, if you just paint over it with a brush and some paint, it will wear off in a week as it won't bind to the plastic and will just be painted on top of the chrome finish.
You need to take it apart like here, http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+S+4G+Teardown/4977/1 to get the silver bezel off, sand it down to remove the chrome finish and create a rough surface for the paint to bond to, use a plastic bonding paint and paint it and put it back together.
I have customized PS2, PS3, Xbox, XBox 360, PSP, DS, PC's, so I'm trying to tell you the work involved to do a job that will last longer than a week. Otherwise, put a case on it so you don't see the chrome. lol. Seems the easiest way if you're not comfortable taking the system apart and heatgunning the screen off, sanding, buying the proper paint, etc.
I also think repainting the bezel is a way to mislead people into thinking its never been dropped. Which is not the right thing to do. Just tell people the truth and you will probably get a decent price. This phone wont sell for a bunch anyway. Plus if you half ass it like getochkn is telling you NOT to do the buyer can return it or do a chargeback on paypal. Especially if you dont inform them you painted the bezel.
Im not trying to mislead anyone i just want it to look nice.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
I would just not worry about it. The process is either going to look crappy or more work than it appears you are looking to do.
If you are good at taping things off you could hand sand the bezel and tape the screen off and spray it but you still run the risk of messing up.

Well Eollie is right, but if you are hellbent on "pretty-fying" your phone and obviously you don't have the mechanical skill to disassemle it, the skill to replate it, let alone repainting it(yes, painting done right is actually harder then electroplating) then this would be your best option http://www.bare-metal.com/bare-metal-foil.html it's called chrome leafing and is by far the best option for you, other then just giving it a thorough cleaning and being done with it.
I saw a guy in the Vibrant forum complete changed the front cover to white. The kit sells on Amazon for about $70. It looks very nice 2.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762191

I just found out that the silver bezel is replaceable. It costs about $9 for a "used like new" one. Actually, most of the parts on our phone are replaceable. Let me know if u need a link to that website I saw.
Man, I got to stop reading this forum and start working on my car website.

the issue is that the chrome isn't a paint, it's a finish that's baked on, so any sort of "touch-up" paint is going to look like crap.
You can try to polish it, but be careful since the spinny-type of polishing bits generate heat, which can damage the plastic bits on the phone if you're not careful.
Your best bet is to get a replacement part like gizmo mentioned.
I recently bought a Note 3 N9005. The Phone is awesome and have been functioning very well, except the Battery drain when playing games on it but I can live with that.
Couple of days back the phone accidentally slipped from my Hand and fell on the Ground . When i picked it up the upper right corner of the phone was chipped and i saw that the Metallic Looking rim for Note 3 is not actually metal but Metal like looking plastic . Now i am left with a Amazing phone with a very sore look. Every time i look at the phone i first look at that chip which makes me very upset
Can anyone please let me know is there any way I can replace the Metal Rim? Is the Metal Rim attached to the LCD Screen? Will I be able to purchase the Metal Rim and replace it with mine?
Pleaseee let me know as that chipped part on my phone is bothering me very much and I have searched the Internet for answers but did not find any. I hope to find them here.
Thanks in Advance.
I don't know about replacing the original part, but a surely cheaper and easier way would be to buy and use a metal bumper. Cheap, easy to install, real metal. There were some threads about it in the Note 3 Accessories subforum.
The plasic metal looking rim is part of the screen's frame, you can only replace it if you replace the whole screen.
So i think it's best if you leave it like that or you must have a pretty big wallet you want to empt, new screen is like $250 a least.
I dont know how hardcore technicians live in ur part of the world but there in Poland replacing S4 frame is pretty much doable so its possible also with note3. Price should be under $100.
Thanks for the response guys...I was hoping to hear a different answer guess i just have to live with that or change to another phone. Thanks for the help. btw i am from India.
What timing! I've only just chipped the frame aswell?. I've maybe dropped my phone 5 times(3 on tile & 2 on lino) and luckly each time, it has fallen screen up.
TBH replacing the whole frame was my last consideration. At first I wanted to paint it, but now I'm just going to get a cover. I'll post a pic of the chip when I get the time. Mine's on the Faux metal rim and not the glass. How bad is yours? Maybe post a pic?
In the end it doesn't matter how little it is, it still drives you nuts?. Take a look at the accessories thread and you'll see most, if not all, of the cases cover the rim around the front. This is would be the easiest solution in my mind.

Yeah, i think i will have to consider the Metal bumper for now to cover up that Chip. its driving me crazy every time i look at my phone. yes, I have used iPhone 4 in the past and i have dropped it several times but had no visible scratches on the phone. But I dropped my Note3 once and Boom!! Scar for life :crying: attaching the picture...
In your situation I would mask the screen very accurately at that corner use epoxy glue to build the missing area up (as epoxy dries it can be shaped & cut to shape with a razor blade) finalise the shape BEFORE its fully cured then allow to cure for a day then paint with cosmetic nail paint close to chrome as you can.

Arghhhh!!? Not to add insult to injury, but that is a shocker. You need a case ASAP! I feel embarrassed complaining about mine. Here's my damage report:

I was using a S-View Cover when the phone fell...I thought my phone should be safe but when i picked it up I saw the top right end of the phone was chipped. Threw the S-View Cover away, Will be buying some nice Cases/ bumpers for the phone this weekend.

Thanks Pat, I will try it this weekend and will update it here. Hopefully everything goes well maybe i'll attach some pictures as well.
Don't forget to mask the rest of the phone while doing it as Epoxy can easily get on things I've noticed & is very hard to remove.
I put a larger than needed blob on & then don't start cutting to shape until it's the consistency of toffee.
Use the the blade in a sawing action.
Good luck.

How much time should I give it until i cut it into shape? Thanks Again.
It is an expensive device so because different makes/types of glue dry at different speeds the trick is to do a test run with the glue in the same environment as you will be doing the repair & monitor/time the glue to see how long the "window" for manipulation of it.
Araldite is good & for a rough idea it may be from about 20mins after applying to an hour. But do a test run. (Buy good glue, i tried some pound shop epoxy last year & it was worse than useless).
