Help rooting sprint gs3? - General Questions and Answers

Hello xda, I am currently trying to root my sprint gs3, iv gotton as far as here......
Going off of what this thread says..

Download Odin3-v3.04 from the bottom of this post
Extract Odin3-v3.04 into it's own folder somewhere where you can easily find it.
Download clockworkmod.tar from the bottom of this post to somewhere you can easily find it.
Reboot your phone into download mode
Hold down Volume Down, Home and then the Power button until the Warning!! message is displayed
Press Volume Up to continue.
Your phone should now be in download mode, displaying a green Android and say Downloading. If it is not, power off your phone by holding down the power button and then try to get into Download mode again. Do NOT progress until you have done so.
Go into the folder you extracted Odin3 into and run Odin3 v3.04.exe (you may have to Right-Clik => Run as Administrator)
Connect your phone to your computer via USB. Drivers may install again; if this happens, allow them to finish before progressing.
In Odin, the COM box all the way to the left should turn blue and it should say Added!! in the Message area.
Click on PDA and in the Open window that pops up navigate to and open the clockworkmod.TAR file you downloaded earlier
Verify that Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked
Click Start. Once the process is completed you device should automatically reboot and there will be a green PASS! box in the upper left of the window. You can then close Odin.
now when i try to boot into recovery mode, it still says Android Recovery Mode, not CWM-Based Recovery. and i do not see the CMW_SuperUser_v3.07.zip when in recovery, im not sure if its because I put the CMW_SuperUser_v3.07.zip file in the wrong place or what? i wasnt too sure where the "root" of the internal storage was so i put it in the "phone" file that shows up when i hook up my device to the computer. I have rooted my epic4g i had before this and i had the same problem but dont remember how i got through it, any help please? greatly Appreciated for any info givin to get my phone rooted! thanks )

Stuck on ATT World Phone screen

Phone is stuck on att white world phone logo and is not going to download mode by holding the volume buttons and power, and or volume down and power.
When i hold the buttons and plug it in and all i see is a damn battery that goes on then off. Odin is open and does seem change.
All this just to get some bloatware and fix a gps.
Try the third option which is the only one works for me:
1. Take battery out and put back
2. Hold both Vol buttons. Don't touch the power button.
3. Plug in the USB cable to your PC. Don't touch the power button.
Your phone should boot into download mode right away. Remember, don't ever touch the power button.
WOW
wow dude perfect you saved me from freaking out! hah SOLVED thanks a million bad power button!
You're welcome. There is now even another hardware hack that can force the phone into download mode even if none of the buttons work. It is posted in i9000 forum.

Entering Download Mode but odin not working
I can get in to download mode but when I open odin3 there is nothing in the text boxes and when I press start it just says all threads completed 0/0 failed. And does the same thing for master clear.
When I turn the phone on with SIM in and hold the up/down + power it enters the clockwork stuff and I have tried the restore default option and recovery option. I was hoping download mode would help but didn't.
If anybody can help it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Here is the procedure you need to follow:
1. Install the proper driver so that ODIN can see your phone when plugged in. Drivers are listed in the thread where you download ODIN.
2. Open ODIN with phone not attached. Select the firmware file (*.rar) you want to flash in PDA field.
3. Power off the phone and enter into download mode and connect the phone to PC.
4. Wait for the driver to install and your phone recognized. It will show up in one of the boxes in ODIN.
5. Once your phone is recognized, press Start button on ODIN to start the flash process.
6. Leave the PC and phone alone for a few minutes and pray (that your phone didn't get bricked in the process).
Ok I got it to recognize but I don't know what (*.rar) I am supposed to flash. Do i just put the cognition folder in it or what.
Thanks for the reply
I want to flash cognition but when i press pdf on odin3 it doesn't see it...any ideas?
Cog does not use Odin. Just get clockwork recovery and install it. Then boot into recovery and flash cog. Go to stickies in dev section, there are guides.
I try to select cognition.rar but says it needs a .tar file. What do I do to make it work?
Cog does not install with Odin unless dg added that. You need to unrar it. Download winrar and extract it, see what's inside.
Sent from my Captivate using XDA App
This guide lays it out pretty well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Personally, here's what I use to do. Go to the Dev section and search for ClockworkMod Recovery. Search that thread for the update.zip. I'm sure it's in there. Put the update.zip on your internal storage, ie, when you plug phone into pc with USB the thing you mount and store file on, not an added SD card.
Boot into stock recovery. Choose reinstall packages, it reboots. Choose reinstall packages again, now your in Clockwork. Choose > install zip from sdcard > choose zip file > then navigate to Cognition (assuming you've put that on your internal storage also) and select it. It flashes, choose reboot. Bam! You're running Cognition.

You can remove the yellow triangle by
1) Flashing back to the original Kernel
2) resetting the binary counter using USB Jig (Check Ebay for "USB Jig Samsung Galaxy S2" and Youtube for instructions)
The yellow triangle is just a warning that you have flashed insecure kernel and i see no danger in that.
Thanks for the reply
as i sad before, i didn't made a backup of stock kernel... where can i find a stock kernel for europe model? i kind a need it... i'll may be returning my phone for service check
Can use CheckFUS to download the European firmware. See this thread.

Yes..Use the ODIN and PDA option to flash the firmware..
You mentioned you will sent phone to service.
Your binary counter will not be reset even though you flash the original firmware.
See if you can buy a USB jig. It might be handy for you always to unbrick you device, in case u brick/semi-brick it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068522
You can also home make USB jig from a spare micro USB cable. See instructions here. But be careful of the terminals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdn5GoRjhn0

The main function of the Yellow Triangle, is to show to Samsung Service that you did something that violates the warranty.
So Samsung Service can tell you:
"You have to pay to repair this device, you have violated the warranty."

Hi,
I installed the CWM and made a backup of the ROM, but when I try to install the SU file (Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip) I get this error (see attached file).
MD5 Mismatch from both locations; the MD5 I get from the files is "fc462fa0630379edbe10006b1d19d9b1"
Thanks a lot

I've got the same error when flashed superuser over new 2.3.5 today. Surprisingly all still worked perfectly - su is installed and superuser app works.
Maybe because I didn't hard reset and I already had my previous firmware rooted.
Very useful,thanks for all!
Works perfect on my device.

A MD5 mismatch means your file is corrupted.
I think superuser should not be installed over another superuser. It is not clear to me why you do that.
If you have problems with superuser, please contact ChainsDD, the developer of Superuser.

Hello.
Quick question/s
1. Will my download count increase if I make a backup of my current android version?
2. Will my warranty be voided when I install CWM in my GSR? I do not have acess to a USB jig so I can not reset the counter....
Thank you.

Installing CWM with Odin does not increase the counter.
Making a backup with CWM does not increase the counter.
Installing superuser with CWM does not increase the counter.
Installing the "ardatdat custom kernel with root+overclock" with CWM does not increase the counter.
Installing a stock rom does not increase the counter.
Hi,
I installed CWM and and made a backup of the stock-rom. Then I wanted to copy the backup-file to my pc, but i cant find the clockworkmod/backup folder. There is only a clockworkmod folder and that one is empty. Its the same on the pc and in android. The weird thing is, that i can see the folder and the backup-file in CWM. So I can restore in cwm, but I want to make a backup of the backup to my pc.
Who can help?

N920PSPT2BPD1_SPR tar

Hello pals,
I haven't see this around here but here is the original PD1 tar for sprint also you can root and do the same as the previous update.
how to install.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF BATTERY TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE.
Then press the vol down + power + home button. This puts you into “Download Mode”.
NOW plug your phone in and let Odin recognize it
Let’s click on the START button at the bottom of ODIN and DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE ON THE SCREEN.
The phone will reboot and start up Android, and this is fine for this portion of the process.
It will reboot and you ready to go.
if you want to root again Installing TWRP the same way with odin reboot to recovery and install “SuperSU-v2.71-N920p.zip”

Help - QDLoader 9008

Something went wrong with my 930T when I tried to flash the deodexed rom and root. Now the phone is stuck on an all-black screen and is only recognized by my computer as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader. Is there a straight-forward (or non-straightforward) way to get the phone into download mode or to manually restore it.

Did the problem occur after the flash of the rom or after rooting?
And have you tried putting it in recovery mode or download mode already?
It occurred after rooting. I have tried to use various key presses (no responses when not connected to a computer, power down for a while does get a disconnect sound from windows). Nothing has gotten anything to pop up on screen. I have the odin restore files ready once I figure out how to get the phone to download mode.

*Also Before you try this turn it off and let it charge for an hour or so...*
So in that case I'd attempt the same key presses to put it in download mode even if nothing is displayed...
1. Volume Down + Power + Home to put it in download mode
2. Then press Volume Up to continue past the warning screen even if nothing is displayed.
3. Grab The Latest Version of Odin here
4. Then Download The Stock Firmware, in this case you will need whichever version you have (if you do not remember you can just download the latest available firmware) Download Firmware and then extract it. (If you have 5 different files in the zip go to step 8)
5. Then install Samsung device drivers(if not already).
6. Start Odin, Plug in the S7, Load in the tar.md5 in the AP/PDA and uncheck Auto Reboot and Repartition.
7. Let the phone restart... VIOLA!!!
8. Alternatively if the zip has 5 files... They should all start with the corresponding buttons in Odin For Example:
AP_G930TUVS3APD8_CL7856276_QB9546176_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
BL_G930TUVS3APD8_CL7856276_QB9546176_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
CP_G930TUVS3APD8_CL7856276_QB9546176_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
CSC_TMB_G930TTMB3APD8_CL7856276_QB9546176_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
HOME_CSC_TMB_G930TTMB3APD8_CL7856276_QB9546176_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
After they are entered into Odin you hit start and after a few minutes ... It should be fixed....
Let me know if you have any further questions or issues...
