[Q] Sweep2Wake or something like that - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! Would it be possible to have Sweep2Wake or another app on the note 10.1 so that i can wake it without having to use the powerbutton?
I have Sweep2Wake on my HTC Sensation XE and it's great, just a slide and it turns on and off.
Or something like the ipad when opening the cover it goes on.
I searched but could not find it here.
Thanks!

Kind of NO
Ipad and some other tablets like nexus 7 have magnet sensors..
Our device does not have such a sensor
However there are apps in the market that make use of the proximity sensor to turn screen on an off..
eg: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phonephreak.pocketsensor_demo
U can try others and see what works best for you

there is not proximity sensor on the Note 10.1. They will not work. There are some that use other sensors that can be found on the Note 10.1 but most of the reviews state spotty functionality.(forgot the names)

Potential million dolar app idea

i dont want to give to much info away. But it has to do with auto screen brightness on lower end phones.
I dont know how to program it, so i can't make it.
Bassically the App would start running when the user turns his screen on. when his screen is on the camera would be instantly activated , then scensing the light of the nearby enviorment. Then auto tunne the light of the screen for best viewing
what do you guys think?
i dont know if this idea has been integrated into other apps like brightness motion or something

I'm sorry to tell you but it's not a million dollar idea
A) the camera will use some battery
B) there is some sort of brightness sensor which uses less battery already being used

Ya the camera might consume more battery than a light sensor....but if this can be done then who wouldn't want to try it out on their phone....without those sensors!!...

Its been done anyways, never understood why...

Its called an ambient light sensor and just about every Android phone has it.
And also problem, that it is too slow procedure, while your camera turn on...
The app Lux already does this. If the light sensor is blocked, it will use the camera and vice versa.

Proximity Sensor ignored in some orientation?

Is anyone noticing this happening to their Nexus 5?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjTGQaK1Qvw
That's actually my video I did for the Galaxy Nexus. Google fixed it in an update, but looks like the Nexus 5 and the current KitKat 4.4.2 is doing the same thing!
I could recreate the same thing in the video with my Nexus 5 (not rooted, 100% stock ROM).
The reason I looked into it was because I noticed that I keep accidentally face-dial or hang up on people when I use my shoulder to hold my phone against my face. I guess holding it that way is enough of an angle to simulate laying flat on a table, thus disabling the proximity sensor.
Doesn't seem like a bug, but by design (albeit a BAD design).
Cany anyone else verify?

My nexus 5 does the same thing .I don't know if it's a bug or it's meant to be like this.My other issue i have with the proximity sensor is that sometimes after a call ended the screen doesn't turn on and i have to use the power button.

[Q] A question about backlight control

Hi everyone, I am a new member in XDA.
I am planning to buy a nexus 5 and I am now a Z1 user.
There is one feature in Z1 which is called optimized backlight control. It adjust the backlight depends on what is displaying.
It can be turn off but after some update the option is always on.
It cause some screen flickering especially when watching video.
So I would like to ask does nexus 5 have this feature? If it does not I am going to buy one.
I remember that xperia T have this feature also but it can be disabled by using a custom kernel.
Sorry for my bad english.

I remember there was an adaptive brightness option..
Anyways the screen doesn't flicker when I watch videos, so that should pretty much solve your problem.

No, I'm pretty positive the N5 doesn't have the optimized backlight control. The only option I've seen for backlight is feature in some of the kernels for a optional backlight dimmer. The only other option is your standard screen brightness levels.

Thanks for both of your answers. I do a little search and accidentally find something called content adaptive brightness control. here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/help/initd-settings-to-disable-content-t1675563
That means Galaxy Nexus have this annoying feature always on also?
It seems like most people are not quite care about screen flickering. Actually on Z1 it is not quite obvious compared to xperia T but it is uncomfortable when the screen flicker.
After all I just want to get a phone without flicker
p.s. I am previously an xperia T owner, when I discover this feature I return the phone. After around a year I get my Z1 but unfortunately this feature is still here. It makes me wonder is this becoming a standard feature? I wound rather scarify my battery life to get a screen without flicker.

Yeah I've never experienced any kind of a screen flicker on the N5... This thing is a beast and has an awesome screen.
Nope, I've owned all nexus phones except the nexus s and I've never experienced any flickering issue. On the rare times I did it was because I compiled my rom wrongly. Purely my fault and not the device.

s10e screen automatically gets turned on in pocket

S10e gets turned on automatically on the pocket even with "Accidental touch Protection turned on", seems like an issue with the proximity sensor. Anybody else facing this issue?
Is it a software bug or hardware issue? Any solution to this?

Same here. I was reading(I 4got where)
That its supposed to be fixed w some software update
I just don't use AOD. It helps.
Great to hear it's not a hardware issue. OnePlus one had this hardware issue which was not fixable trough SW updates.
Hope Samsung will fix this, as they have charged us for these features.

Did U check to see if Raise to Wake is on? There is another setting under raise to wake that might be your answer. Type in settings search (raise to wake)
Good Luck

Very annoying.

There is a setting "Accidental Touch Protection" which ideally checks if your phone is in the pocket by using Proximity sensor on the device. But for some reason, this setting does not work as it is supposed to work. Regardless of the setting turned on or off phone turns on in pocket.
The solution to this issue is to disable always on display, raise to wake, double tap to wake.
Ironically we have paid money to use these features on the phone. There have been 2 updates released by Samsung after me buying this phone and the issue is still there.
Mine is set to double tap to wake, and Accidental Touch Protection on (No AOD).
I have no problems with phone unlocking in the pocket.
S10e Exynos variant.
