[Q] Build a custom rom from cyanogenmod source - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I want to make a custom rom using CM-10.1 as base and then edit it to add those tweaks I like and remove what I dont like. So I tried to build CM10.1 from source as explained here with no success. Is there an easier way to get an editable version of CM10.1 for crespo or however some guides where learn how to start with custom roms?
Thank you.

[Q] Build Custom ROM using Android 2.3.xx

Sorry if this has already been covered, I have seen a few posts that are close to what I am looking for.
I am looking at building my own ROM from the latest Cyanogenmod, or at least customising it so it contains my own apps.
Is there a good place to start with this build process and if I have to start with a basic build is it easy enough to have the update to the 2.3.xx builds that are released?
Thanks
What apps do you find?
I want to remove most of the ones that come with the cyanogenmod release and add my own into the build.
Also I am looking at trying to build my own apps that I want to test by incorporating into a ROM.
Hope that makes sense?
I also want to do the same but I want to start with my stock Rom and then edit it.
Stock rom is good
stock is perfect smooth and far

[Q] creating a JB cyanogenmod rom for ainol hero

I have an ainol hero and would like cyanogenmod on it, as no one has attempted it yet I thought I would come to xda to find out how to do it myself.
The guides I read on creating ROMs are more about customizing custom roms and having an 'almost' identical ROM to work with.
So my questions to xda developers is how would someone with little to no experience creating/modifying ROMs create a working JB cyanogenmod ROM.?
Would it be a case of getting the 'stock' JB cyanogenmod base ROM and essentially importing my current ROMs system files into it?

[Q] stuck at google logo after flashing kernel

my nexus 5 is freshly rooted with twerp my question is when I flash cm and try to install a kernel it gets stuck at the google logo with the unlock icon at the bottom is there a reason for this I install rom then kernel and then the gapps am I doing this wrong? or is there something im missing I have searched the forum and google sorry if im asking the same question over thanks
most custom kernels wont work on cm. cm moved away from aosp for its source to caf, and most custom kernels use aosp. so, you will need to read the ops for the kernel threads, if they say caf, or cm, then you can use it with cm based roms.
Search chaos kernel I know for sure that is CAF

[Q] Kernel compatibility

Hello xda members.
I've got a question regarding kernels. How is one to know which kernel will work with there particular ROM? Are they all somewhat compatible just to a matter of degree? Or do people just find one that sounds good and hope it works on there particular ROM?
I'm running aosb end of the line ROM and I'm real curious to try out kernels now.
Any insight world be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
There are pretty much 2 types of kernels.
CAF kernels - Used for CyanogenMod based ROMS
NON-CAF kernels - Used for AOSP / Stock
Find out if your ROM is CM based. If it is, Look in each kernel thread to see if it mentions CAF.
Hi,
This rom is based on CM so you need a kernel compatible with CM roms like (or tagged with "CAF"): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551441 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2661397...
Maybe there is one or two others, don't remember exactly.

Click to collapse
Since you are running aosb which is CM based Rom you can try the above 2 given and also the elemental X for CAF based Roms
thank you guys. now to go check em out...

Hammerhead ROM project

Hi guys, i am new to android and everything and i have an intention to build a CM based ROM for Hammerhead and i really looking forward on help. I need beta testers and a dev who can help me out, cuz so far iḿ following the rom building guide by this guy called jackeagle, and honestly sometimes it just makes no sense at all so I appreciate any help, don't judge me by any reason.
If you want to build CM rom use CM instructions (there are on cm wiki page). If you want your customizations you need github, fork cm source and modify it.
After it you need to modify local_manifest to use your source, not CM to build rom and voila, everything should work fine.
I know what i'm saying, i've built CM roms for D802, WT19i and some other devices.
