Make sure everything related tl vibrate is disabled. Even check accessibility settings also. Then once you know all of it is off, restart the tablet. Hopefully That will do the trick. If not, there might be an app causing it.
There is a setting in power saving that allows you to disable vibration system-wide, overriding all other settings and apps that may vibrate.
I did but didn't find anything related to vibration in accessibility and it still vibrate I think I will live with it :\

Settings > Sound.... turn off Vibrate and Vibrate feedback
For alternate keyboard specific go to Settings > Language & Keyboard
Select your alternate keyboard settings and should be in there
Thanks,
I tried settings-sounds but all is unchecked. Also I am without alternative keyboard.

Might also need to turn off haptic feedback in the sound settings. I use Swype so can turn it off it its own settings
Just switched back to the default keyboard and it does still give haptic...I use swype so im in the same boat at you eddy.
Just found it:
Settings > Language & Keyboard > Touch Input > Text Input >
Disable Vibrate when typing
Wow, that was buried
Very embarrassing...
The option was exactly where you wrote.
Thank you!

I hate any kind of vibration on my phone. I always download Spare Parts, and disable haptic feedback.

I can only agree, haptic feedback is the worst! Especially on every key press, terrible. I only want vibration for notifications/calls, everything else is just plain uncomfortable.
Is there anyway to switch this off on Nexus S....???
Settings -> Location & Security -> use tactile feedback. Check for vibration, uncheck for not.
Mate there is no such option in Nexus S? R u sure about the location

yeap devlogic is right, this option is where he said, maybe you're using a rom that displays this option elsewhere
Download "Spare Parts" from the Market. There is an option which turns off the vibration of the touchkeys.

No working!!
Guys I even tried Spare Parts....but still no luck ....I mean even if other keypad vibration's are disabled but only the UNLOCK vibration can't be disabled. Any other way ????
PS: My phone is not rooted and is the original 2.3.4.
Settings > sound > haptic feedback. Check that off to turn off touch key vibration.

the formerly described option in location&security is also unknown to me, my NS doesn't have this point and i am on stock too!
Yeah I tried all options...this is soooo irritating...I really hope somebody comesup with a solution
Solved
Ok I've found a solution....

Hi!
Is there an app to mute and turn off vibrate when I lock the device? My phone is my primary device, connected to the same accounts and I would like the tab to only make noises when I unlock it. So far I didnt find a setting or app for this. Could you help me?
Try tasker or locale

I use Silent Sleep

Tasker worked like a charm, but I will search for this silent sleep in the afternoon, I'm guessing it uses less resources since it's more specific
Ok, I've seen this issue as fairly common, but can't gets it to work. It's a GS3 completely stock running 4.0.2 and I've had it all of 3 days.
Majority of the issues others are having are with not having notification vibration on in messaging settings, which I have triple checked to be on. Sounds settings are all set for vibrate always as well, but it still won't vibrate for any messages or notifications other than calls. It isn't affected by the call/notification volume being on or off either.
It's starting to get frustrating, so if anyone has any suggestions or can give me some direction, it would best greatly appreciated. Also, I think I posted this in the right place and I couldn't find anything similar so I apologize if this has been covered.

Had the same issue. open messages and then (menu)>settings. scroll down to notification settings>vibrate and change to always or in silent mode.
that solved it for me.
Rex.

Sound and vibration musted be checked in system sound settings.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
It is. :/
Still no notification vibration regardless of "silent mode" status (it can be silent, vibrate only, or silent off- no vibration regardless).
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Stupid question...is your vibration intensity down all the way for any of the 3 options?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Nope- incoming call and notification are maxed and haptic feedback is about halfway.

Hi there !
I'm not able to post on the good thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667442) due to my amount of posts, so I have to post there, and I hope it's the right place.
I saw on 15.7.2012 change log of the ROM this : "Enable automatic backlight by default."
I thought it was backlight of the 4 buttons allowing you to know you get a SMS during phone was locked.. but I tried the ROM, tested to recieve a SMS during my Nexus S is lock, but backlight stay off..
Am I doing something wrong ? Does this ROM just don't have this feature ? Would be bad.. :crying:
Thanks

For keys to light up you must flash kernel with bln(backlight notification) enabled. Automatic backlight is for screen brightness.
