S-Pen over Splashtop and windows 8 - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im interested on buying the note10.1 for the s-pen but i was wondering if anyone have tested it via remote app like splashtop ? i tested splashtop in a asus tf300t quad core and it was almost realtime experience over windows 8. Just wondering if i anyone can use the s-pen with photoshop or any app that uses pressure points to see if it works well or any noticable lag

I used splashtop 2 on windows 7 and it lags.. didnt use to lag when I had my asus tf101..

mine is working fine. maybe you have your router on auto channel. i had to fiddle with my 3 routers as some liked certain channels better. and weirdly, when one is set on 40mhz my ipad2 can't see any of the n routers that are also on 40mhz. setting that one back on 20 and the other 40mhz work fine.

Does your WiFi suck too?

This is my second Asus tablet. I still have a TF101 that I've used for the past 16 or 17 months that had this same problem. That problem is WiFi connectivity. As I type this I'm sitting about five feet from my router and have, at maximum, a 19Mbps WiFi connection on the TF700. I've seen it as low as 5Mbps.
I can't even stream HD Youtube videos on this tablet without it buffering literally every 3 seconds of playback. And that's five feet from the router. Meanwhile, my Galaxy Nexus will play the same video in HD from multiple rooms away with no pauses for buffering.
I've read complaints in the past about Asus tablets and their connectivity issues, but I was under the impression that this has been resolved with the plastic strip at the top of the device.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
No issues for me. I stream from my pc at about 30 feet away and still dont experience these issues. I have fios. and my speeds are pretty damn good.

I'm on a 24Mbps internet connection, so I know that's not the issue. And as I said, my Nexus streams everything just fine. This is really frustrating...
Your issue sounds like it's all you. The WiFi has vastly improved since the TF201.
None with mine.
Way way better than my tf201. With YouTube I have a better connection on the web than I do with the app.

Absolutely no issues!!! Loving it!
Nope, mine is actually running better than my nexus. Getting 22meg download speeds on my T700, Galaxy Nexus, just a tad less. Was constantly getting buffering on my TF201 but not the TF700. I am about 30 feet from my router.

Workin' good here
Steady good connection thru a coupla walls...
Mine is fairly consistent, no drops, but not the best speeds. I have a 50mbps connection but can only get about 25mbps down on the Infinity. My Galaxy Note gets much better speeds because I can utilize the 5ghz spectrum on it.
I know - quit complaining.... lots of people would love to get 25mbps download speed
What keeps me happy is that I can now watch You Tube with no lag or buffering at all. Never could do that with the prime.

I am using WPA2-PSK encryption and my wifi is awful compared to my laptop.
I have 90-95Mbit/s on average on my laptop while my tf700 gets between 15-25Mbit/s.
So no, it's not just you!

Again - this does not indicate a problem - the wifi in the Infinity is not supposed to be as fast as the wifi in your laptop! The max speed of the wifi hardware in the Infinity is 65mbps (actually, I've read one report of someone getting up to 72Mbps), but most laptops have 300Mbps wifi cards.
Of course it's not going to be as fast as your laptop.... Has to do with the number of antennas, etc...

Where would you need any more speed than that in tablet use?
Even if you downloaded some bigass 'linux distros' using torrents, wlan technology is least of your concerns to get same speeds than desktop/laptop.
I have 200mbit internet connection and i wouldnt even think needing 1/4 of it for tablet
For OPs question: Havent tested my speeds yet but signal is excellent even from htc sensation tether!

To answer the OP's question: Yes the wifi speed does suck, but apparently that's to be expected on tablets.

It does not "suck" - it's appropriate for the devices expected usage. There is a big difference.

I have a Linksys E4200 and i am outside of my house, by the water, about 60-70 feet away from my router and i get one bar, but that more than enough for streaming HD videos on youtube and 1080p videos off my NAS without lag. So yes, this issue sound specific to you and since you've had the same with your tablet, im guessing it's youre router.
Change channels? dont thinl it'll do anyhting but youve got nothing to lose

Slow Downspeed on Note 10.1

I have a fiber optic internet connection at home and on my desktop PC I get download speeds of 80mbps+ however when I do a speed test on my note 10.1 I am lucky to get a downspeed on 3mbps. Does anyone have any ideas why this is and how to improve it?
I am in the UK and have the N8010 model.
Many thanks.
Its likely something with your router. Check the signal strength and channel.maybe a firmware upgrade on the router .are you connection to a/b/g/n all of the above will effect speeds and reliability.
Also is your PC hard wired.? If so you know it will be much faster there is far less overhead data tagging along.I do not think its the device
Good luck

Thanks for the response. My router in running on Wireless N. Yes my PC is hard wired however im still getting at least a 50mbps downspeed on my Windows laptop via the wireless. I just figure it's something to do with the network card inside the Note?
I do have some problems connecting to certain networks with my tablet as well. Maybe there's some problem with wifi drivers in the galaxy note I'm guessing. Hopefully it'll be fixed in JB.

One thing you can try is changing the encryption and/or privacy standard (WEP and so on) since some of them isn't supported by "dumb" devices and I suspect some of them are supported but are so advanced it affects the performance.

Hi,
I had the same issue.
I solved setting the ip address to static (not dhcp) in wifi settings.
Now i get 20 mbits+ (consistent with my G router capabilities)

Go to settings.
Select wifi
Long press on your connection.
Press modify connection
Now select ip settings and change to static
Now change your IP to an address outside of dhcp range and your done.
If dhcp is 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.100 set your tab to 192.168.1.101
You can also change your routers dhcp range to 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.15 and set your tab to ..16
Your numbers may be different, but same method.

[Q] Laggy Youtube App

Hello there,
I compared the Nexus 5's YouTube playback with a Nexus 4 and an iPhone 5s, and it feels as though the video on the N5 is pixelated and choppy. Are any of you guys seeing problems in YouTube quality?
Yes I do. YouTube seems choppy.

Are you on WiFi or 3g?
I noticed a similar problem when I was on WiFi.
Then I ran a speed test on my network... Now, I usually get around 38 Mbps on my laptop... but my N5 was like 1.5mbps max... I went in to advanced wifi settings and changed it from "auto" chanel mode, to just 2.4ghz mode, and then changed my wifi routers chanel... I'm now getting around 27mbps on wifi and youtube is great

[Q] How good is the virtual desktop feature?

Hello, I read that the Note Pro 12.2 can connect to PC or Mac and used as a terminal. With the ethernet connection, how good is this function? Is it going to be like the Note Pro 12.2 as a monitor for a directly connected PC or Mac?

What router are you using (with ac wireless)

I'm planing on changing my router for a new one that has ac wireless. Before I RMA my nexus 5 for that damn WiFi drop issue I thought it was time to try a New router but I would like to know who has a router with ac wireless and if you have any WiFi drop. So very easy.
Router manufacturer make and model.....
WiFi drop yes/no
Thanks

Mine is no AC wireless but its certainly better than those Asus AC High performance routers
what I like is a balance between Coverage and performance a company called Amped Wireless In the USAMakes these types of routers not some cheap china/korean stuff
What I have is this http://www.ampedwireless.com/products/r20000g.html
It's got dual signal amplifiers each antenna port is outputting 600Mw of power that's face melting wifi right there. Most routers don't even output 100Mw. Routers with internal antennas put out only like 50Mw and have no signal noise filters.
So overall my router is a bit overkill but somehow my Nexus 5 manages to drop the connection lol... my other devices don't exhibit such behavior though.
I'm guessing this is software and I'll wait till Android 4.5 comes I have a year anyway from LG to RMA
Netgear Nighthawk R7000.

Did you check what channel your routers using or if there's a conflict with a nearby router on the same channel. My wife's Macbook pro couldn't hold a WiFi signal from 6 feet away yet every other device in our house had no problems. What I did was took the router off auto and set it to use a specific channel that no other routers within a couple hundred feet where using. Now the MBP has been rock solid since. Turns out me and two neibors were all on channel 6. All my Asus Transformers where real sensitive to signal also.

Anyone having trouble seeing some AC channels? I had a launch day N5 that had no problem connecting to ch 153 on my Netgear Nighthawk running DD-WRT. I sold that N5 months ago and now have bought another N5. This one won't "see" my AC network unless it's set to a channel under 48. Even wifi analyzer shows that I have a limited 5 GHz channel range. My S4 connects just fine. Do your N5's see higher 5 GHz channels?
See the photo below. I only see my neighbor's wifi 5G network and the graph stops at 44.
EDIT: Fixed it. It seems changing my extension channel has fixed the issue. I now see the network. N5 seems to not support all AC channels listed in my DD-WRT channel settings.
