Hello there,
I compared the Nexus 5's YouTube playback with a Nexus 4 and an iPhone 5s, and it feels as though the video on the N5 is pixelated and choppy. Are any of you guys seeing problems in YouTube quality?
Yes I do. YouTube seems choppy.

Are you on WiFi or 3g?
I noticed a similar problem when I was on WiFi.
Then I ran a speed test on my network... Now, I usually get around 38 Mbps on my laptop... but my N5 was like 1.5mbps max... I went in to advanced wifi settings and changed it from "auto" chanel mode, to just 2.4ghz mode, and then changed my wifi routers chanel... I'm now getting around 27mbps on wifi and youtube is great

Thanks for the reply. I am on WiFi, and I changed to 2.4ghz mode to see if it made a difference. Sadly, it didn't help at all.
NOOOOO! I get all OCD over things like this.

This is weird when I run speed test on 4g I have download speeds of 7mbs avg. When I run Wifi I get avg of 3mbs which is about half as fast, but as far as my expierence Wifi works twice as fast when surfing web or downloading files what gives. What do you guys prefer, I mean while you are home around Wifi.

Generally my results are similar. My home ISP is pretty terrible though, really the only time I use Wifi is to download ROMs, for whatever reason I seem get issues if I download them over the Mobile Network, possibly corrupted downloads.
Otherwise just for Wifi calling.

WiFi & 4G are around the same at my home.... WiFi is usually around 9.5 mb/s while 4G is around 6 to 7 mb/s. Call quality is noticeably better on 4G than WiFi.
T-Mo has a free option in your account to not get charged for WiFi calling minutes...it's disabled by default so log on or call and get it changed if you use WiFi for calling.

4G is spotty where I live.. maybe 500kbs at best.. though at my friends place, I can get 9-11Mbs.
My wifi works great though, I get about 18Mbs down at home, and about 7Mbs at work. WiFi calling works great for me at home.

This is my theory remember its not fact just a theory.
Using the mobile data connection you have to share with every person in that area on T-Mobile. Using wifi you only share with the people in your neighborhood. Even tho you are getting those speeds with a higher ping because of couple hundred people playing pandora or something it will slow the process.
Another thing remember a speed test is just that a test. It is done in a short period of time. I can run a speed test at my house through out the day and get varying results. Even while getting the max DL speed sometimes things will take longer to load then when Im barely getting 1mb speeds. The load on the network has a very large result on how fast things actually download.
Good point

Heh, no but cable internet does share from the hub.
I was just about to comment on ping times... even though throughput is high, ping does play a major role.

It just stops working for no apparent reason and the signal indicator fluctuates wildly. Amazingly the LTE signal is very strong and reliable, guess I'll be relying on that over wifi which just seems wrong.

I was curious about this too. Are you on AT&T or Rogers? I know many are reporting issues with Wireless N routers.
Supposedly it will be fixed in a firmware update.

I have a netgear, couple years old. Not sure what type though.
In the WiFi settings, under the menu, "WiFi Network Bands", select "2.4 GHz only". That improved the wifi quality significantly for me.

I can confirm that switching to "2.4 GHZ only" improved the stability for myself as well. This will have to do until HTC releases a fix.

Has anyone tried to assign a specific DHCP lease to their phone with their router to see if this solves the problem? This is killing me, I have to have a phone with flawless wifi, I don't get great cell signal where I work so I need the wifi for texting (I use google voice) / chat / email. I guess I will know more tomorrow when I get home to get mine. I tried to talk my wife to brining it to me at work but no dice there.
I currently have a galaxy nexus which has very finicky wifi as well. I have found that it is more router related than anything else. With the apple airport extreme the connection has always been perfect, but I saw here this is not the case with this phone. Fingers Crossed.
AT&T broke the WIFI on purpose for the following reason
have you use LTE.
Charge your for going over data cap
Profit?

Seems to have done the trick for me!!
From a purely RF point of view, 2.4GHz has better range than 5GHz due to being able to go through walls better. If other devices don't have issues connecting over 5Ghz from the same location, then the issue may be the WiFi antenna design and/or the case material which makes it difficult for higher frequencies to get through. This is most likely the case if by approaching the router you are able to connect over 5 GHz.

This would be fine but I have issues when connected to 2.4ghz when 5ghz is enabled. After I turned off 5ghz its stable so this is not a signal issue, this is some type of driver or kernel issue.

I believe your correct, hopefully HTC will adress it.In the mean time at least it's a bit more stable so far switching to 2.4
Switching your ip to static also works! lets you keep the frequencies on auto. Good for your home wifi. For other locations i guess set it back to 2.4ghz. Hopefully HTC addresses this sometime soon.
My WiFi connection always says it's full but it takes longer than on 3g to load. I'm not even on hspa and it's faster than the WiFi. Yet when I do a speed test for the WiFi it's great. Anyone else have this problem or is this the same WiFi problem as before?

I get that alot, and it is truly annoying. I'm an android noob/apple convert and one of the biggest android quirks for me is that if wi-fi is "connected" the apps won't fall back to 4g if the wi-fi craps out. If i have 5 bars of 4G don't ****ing tell me I have no connection, use the 4G.

Exact same thing here.
I actually see my wifi bars go down to zero bars and come back up to full bars while browsing. I did a speed test and it slows the speed when it goes to zero or one bars. I tried to squeeze the phone between the camera and the volume rocker but it doesn't seem to fluctuate much by squeezing. Anybody else experience this? I'm on sick sense rom.

This is really starting to piss me off. I try loading a PhoneDog.com page and the loading bar just sits a 3/4 forever. After a long while it'll say something like connection timed out. Mine is no AC wireless but its certainly better than those Asus AC High performance routers
what I like is a balance between Coverage and performance a company called Amped Wireless In the USAMakes these types of routers not some cheap china/korean stuff
What I have is this http://www.ampedwireless.com/products/r20000g.html
It's got dual signal amplifiers each antenna port is outputting 600Mw of power that's face melting wifi right there. Most routers don't even output 100Mw. Routers with internal antennas put out only like 50Mw and have no signal noise filters.
So overall my router is a bit overkill but somehow my Nexus 5 manages to drop the connection lol... my other devices don't exhibit such behavior though.
I'm guessing this is software and I'll wait till Android 4.5 comes I have a year anyway from LG to RMA

Did you check what channel your routers using or if there's a conflict with a nearby router on the same channel. My wife's Macbook pro couldn't hold a WiFi signal from 6 feet away yet every other device in our house had no problems. What I did was took the router off auto and set it to use a specific channel that no other routers within a couple hundred feet where using. Now the MBP has been rock solid since. Turns out me and two neibors were all on channel 6. All my Asus Transformers where real sensitive to signal also.

Anyone having trouble seeing some AC channels? I had a launch day N5 that had no problem connecting to ch 153 on my Netgear Nighthawk running DD-WRT. I sold that N5 months ago and now have bought another N5. This one won't "see" my AC network unless it's set to a channel under 48. Even wifi analyzer shows that I have a limited 5 GHz channel range. My S4 connects just fine. Do your N5's see higher 5 GHz channels?
See the photo below. I only see my neighbor's wifi 5G network and the graph stops at 44.
EDIT: Fixed it. It seems changing my extension channel has fixed the issue. I now see the network. N5 seems to not support all AC channels listed in my DD-WRT channel settings.
