Asurion insurance claim - typical? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My wife's S3 was run over. She called to file a claim and was told they are out of stock and that it could be 5-7 days before they have something to send her. They also said they could not offer a different phone, because nothing was shown in their system as a comparable replacement. So for now, she's stuck with nothing.
This seems pretty terrible. Is this typical? I'm definitely going to be looking for an alternative insurance option when this is done.

thats unacceptable.

The only other warranty I know of is Squaretrade. Maybe you could check them out??

This might be a good opportunity to get that note 2

Fwiw I tried calling Verizon just to see if they'd do anything to help the situation. My reasoning being that they sold me and bill me for the plan, so they should make it right. They basically took no responsibility.

They are joshin you..asurion will give you a note 2 if they have no s3..just yell at them saying it unacceptable and if asurion doesn't budge you need to get on the phone with Verizon asap and talk to a manager

Just to add, I was talking to the Verizon manager in the call I reference above, and that manager refused to give me the name of their direct supervisor after basically telling me there was nothing that could be done on their end (except credit the account for days of service during which I'm waiting for the new phone). I am on hold with Asurion right now with a supervisor, but still being told nothing they can do to fix the situation.
Update: Asurion supervisor unable to help. Told them I'd be cancelling insurance on all 3 lines when this is resolved, posting about it on XDA, and submitting complaint to the BBB. Being transferred to the...CEO?

Definitely unacceptable, they are legally bind to replace you with an exact phone or comparable phone and note 2 is the only comparable phone to S3 unless they already have the s4, which I doubt.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk HD

Well they never mentioned the Note 2, just kept saying no S3 in stock and that there was nothing else comparable available as an option either. After that last transfer to the corporate office or something, I was again told the same thing but also offered the option to buy the S3 at a corporate Verizon store and get reimbursed minus deductible. So I took that offer and ultimately happy with that solution, but definitely not happy with the runaround and hassle.

For me, this is anything but typical. After this past weekend, I've filed four claims with them in the 3 years I've been their customer. Only once have they not had my device in stock, and the rep immediately suggested a comparable replacement. I know they don't always get the best reputation. However, I always get my claim filed fast with no hassle and the device always arrives very quickly.

Me and my GF both got replacement phones before the holidays. She broke hers and I cracked my screen. For both I told Asurion we lost them, cheaper fee and got phones the next day. Got to keep the extra parts too (batt door, batt). I would never tell them I broke the phone, they want the broken one back and its more expensive. Just pull the Sim and tell them u lost it. I use my old phone with the broken screen as a music player, and for WiFi. Screen still works its just cracked bad.

I thought about just reporting it missing, but phone was smashed enough that nothing was really usable. I also thought the deductible was the same regardless of damaged vs lost/stolen. At least that what it shows for me when I look up the deductible...

Did you file a claim online? Did they ask for any documentation or anything?

I ditched all insurance for both my wife and myself. I found that for $7/month and a deductible of $50-$100 I was way better off fixing the phone myself and dealing with it that way. Every experience I had with asurion when I did have them was a headache and the refurbished phones they replaced my phone with were always defective and needing another replacement. Replacement digitizer on my wife's Bionic was $30 with about 30 minutes of labor. Nothing compared to >$200 cost that would have come from asurion's "help".

The claims I've had with Asurion have usually been handled well. Even had an old droid incredible replaced with an incredible 2.

I had a claim on my sgs3 5 days after the release date because I dropped it snd the screen shattered. It was so new they had to send me a new one. Took 3 weeks!!!! I actually went and bought a new screen for it and had it working before I got my replacement.

My Assurion Experience

Ok, so I've never had insurance on a phone, but thought I should with this phone, and I'm glad I did.
Needing a replacement, I started a claim online. The paperwork was pretty straight forward. I faxed them back, then talked to a rep (their site went down and I could not check on my claim) I received my phone the next day, that simple. I cannot tell you how easy it was and how happy I am I took out the insurance, now.
I am only telling you all this b/c anyone 'on the fence' about insurance, really shouldn't be. To me, at this point with a 5-600$ phone, no question, and to make matters better...it was soooo easy.
there was one little 'hook'. when I opened the battery door, the void sticker was activated. So, this was a refurb, <which I expected> but when I called to make sure Assurion knew this and had it noted in my account, the rep put me on hold to 'talk to her supervisor'. She had me on hold for about 10 minutes when she came back and said that the replacement came from VZ, not Assurion, and that it should NOT have been a refurb.
This phone works just fine and I'm happy with it, and frankly just happy to have a tbolt back. So, I opted to keep it and not have another shipped. Besides, they give you a 1 year warranty starting when you receive your replacement.
Again, I'm just writing this here because if anyone is thinking about getting the insurance, I can testify that their service is A+, everyone on the phone was great and the process was much easier than I thought it would be.
Hope this helps someone else.....

This is good to know. My tb is fine sorta. I haven't met anyone who's TB kills battery like mine buy that may be how I use mine. The finish on my kickstand is peeling and my kickstand is bent and won't fully close. My only issue with using a claim through them is that after i receive the phone from them, it completely invalidates my warranty from verizon... meaning if after a month the replacement phone stops working and i goto a VZW store, they say "Oh well you got this from Asurion, so you need to call them for a warranty replacement".
Very inconvenient.... however better than paying full retail for a replacement.
Not really make a folder call it phone claim put all your info in email online.
Phone craps out go back to your saved email folder open saved info which will hyperlink to phone claim online track a package do the second option on the screen answer the questions talk to a rep answer their questions.
Takes a little time, and the Vzw Store would end up ordering u a phone anyways, plus I hate the Corp. Stores,Ive got more pull with the phone Reps.

How long have you owned the phone before needing to replace it? I never bothered to get insurance because even if I broke my phone the day I bought it, I could buy another one for probably $300-400 on ebay/paypal, then resell it once I'm eligible for an upgrade to a newer phone. The difference between the two is less than paying assurion their monthly fee+deductible, and certainly less if I can go for at least 3-6 months without ruining the phone.
I also used a claim when I put my blackberry in with my books and threw the backpack in the truck of my car after finals one semester.
Verizon made me do a claim since it was physical damage.
It was a quick and easy thing, apart from the deductible.

I had a great experience with Asurion too. I had my Tbolt not even 3 months when I forgot it was on my lap when I got out of my hubby's truck. It didn't look too bad after it hit the concrete, but the earpiece no longer worked. I submitted a claim online that night and had a new phone by noon the next day. It was quick and easy, and I don't know if the replacement phone was new or refurbished, but it was in perfect condition in an original box and worked great. I also got an extra battery, sd card, and charger out of the deal. I have always had the insurance since I have had smartphones, but this was the first time I had even used it. Very good experience.

I had asurion insurance till I switched to best buy insurance for mobile phones. I shattered my screen on my tbolt I went to bestbuy and they ordered a NEW one. Had to wait like 3 days or so for me to receive it, but no deductible and only 10 bucks a month. Not trying to make a commercial for bb here but I was increasingly satisfied with it. I know with asurion u pay a deductible of 100 or so and you might end up with a refurb phone. So I was very satisfied with bb insurance.

And that is the type of attitude that has turned our world into what it is today. Your right someone probably wouldn't notice because there are so many hands in the cookie jar.
People wonder why insurance rates go up or deductibles increase and then complain.
In the end, it comes out of someone's pocket.

Okay so do u really think the $90 deductable is a lot? Seriously I would rather pay the $90 than $500+. N its not like they throw away the damaged device. I'm sure they fix it, test it and use it as another replacement phone. Seriously some of u guys get way too butt hurt over this. Insurance fraud is wrong yes but this is just a phone, just a phone. And the deductables have gone up because phones are becoming more sophisticated and more expensive. U can't seriously think you could get a $500+ phone replacement for only $50....

If Ashurion is out of stock of your phone, they will replace it with another 4g phone if you ask.
My brother's Fascinate broke a couple months ago, they replaced it with a brand new Droid X2 just a week after it came out.
I'd recommend aiming for the Bionic.

I can't believe people still pay for insurance. It's a scam and way too expensive for the service they provide.

Plus deductible. If you drop a phone and truly break it, it's probably because you didnt have a proper case on a $600 item. But most breaks occur to the digitizer....$30 and extremely easy to fix. Your local mom and pop computer shops will throw those things in for you for less than your deductible.
I'm not trying to knock anyone for paying for insurance...but those companies aren't in it to lose money. And everyone forgets about their warranty. We've sent a couple phones back for repairs and get them back within 3 days of HTC receiving them.
But losing a $600 phone...well that would be the only good thing I can see coming out of it. But cmon...if you lose a $600 phone from being careless ya kind of get what you deserve. Laptops cost less than that now. Gotta hold yourself to some kind of responsibility.

Well now that you got your replacement phone, this would be a good time for you to do one of those screen replacement kits so that you have a backup phone and then you might decide to even drop your insurance on your current phone to save $$$.
You don't get to keep the old phone, you have to send that back. Otherwise, definately would have fixed the screen and kept as back up.

[Q] g2x replacement?

Hello, all.
I've recently broken my g2x beyond repair--physically that is. I've been using my girlfriend's g2x and before I contact t-mobile for a replacement (I have premium handset protection plan) I wondered if anyone had recently tried to replace their phone using the same method?
Two questions follow:
Was your phone replaced with another g2x, or a phone similar to it?
Was there an option to pay the difference for a phone upgrade?
If you go through Assurion, you need to call them and ask for a different model. We filed a claim online and got another G2x.
If you're going through T-Mobile, you have to get three replacements in six months before they'll offer a different model

I called asurion and filed a claim today.
They said they could only send out a different phone if the same model phone is not available; I didn't want to push the issue since I'd be getting a new phone anyway.
the deductible was $130
Didn't want to create a new thread so I'll post here. My G2X recently started sensing the headphones even when non are plugged in which doesn't allow me to call without using the speaker. I went to a T-Mobile store and the representative there, after checking if my phone has been rooted off-course, said that for $5 I will get a replacement in 2 days which is a "much better" phone. What I got in the mail is a G2, which is a) 6 months older b) has a smaller screen c) has a single core processor d) has a slower wireless modem - I can go on and on, but the point is it's not an equivalent phone. This was the first problem I had with my G2X in 1 year and 9 months of owning it, so by all means replace it with another one or something that is better. I am going back to t-mob today, but I am not holding my breath. I'll keep people posted on the results of my expedition. Any insight into this matter is greatly appreciated.

maybe treat it as an honest mistake on their part at first. I'd be surprised if they stuck with the verdict that you deserve a G2. You didn't tell us what replacement plan you had or what warranty you were using to get it fixed. Also, usually the headphone issue can be fixed with compressed air or a straw brush or q-tip dipped in alcohol to clean off the contacts, which can register a headset when nothing is in there.
tell them you want your G2X back if nothing else. It's probably worth more with the headset issue than the G2 new.

Didn't get a chance to stop by yesterday, so we'll see what they say today. I am an electrical engineer so I can easily fix this issue, I just think if I pay $7.99(premium handset protection) I should be able to use it - especially since my wife and I have paid it for 2 phones for almost 2 years. I came straight to the store and the T- Mobile representative filed the claim for me - so since it was only $5 shipping I assume the replacement is direct from T-Mobile.
Well, as expected, the T-Mobile rap agreed that the G2 is inferior, called customer service to see what they can do and and they said - "too bad-so sad." After that, he said that the only thing he can recommend is calling customer loyalty(I'll try it but I am not holding my breath). So the bottom line is, T-Mobile stole $400 of my money over 2 years for 2 phones since the protection plan did absolutely nothing for me even when my device broke. I am sending the G2 back and that's that. TMobile offers the cheapest service, especially if I have 3 lines with unlimited data and a 10% discount I can get through work, so I really doubt I'll switch to something else.

Well, finally after 2 visits to the T-mobile store and contacting customer loyalty department twice - the first time I was promised I will get a replacement G2X - and the order was never filed - I got a nice shiny refurbished LG L9. It's not the greatest phone, but it sure as heck beats the G2 and is definitely better then the G2X. Not sure why this was so hard to do in the first place?
Glad you got a new rig man!!

[Q] Galaxy SIII hard brick

I seem to have hard bricked my Galaxy S3 on US Cellular. I was running Baked blackbean 6, and wanted to flash the latest modem for USCC to fix the absolutely terrible signal issues. I grabbed the zip and opened it up in mobile odin and told it to flash. My phone shut down and now won't do a thing. No download mode, no recovery, no notification light. When I plug it into my computer, the computer dings to say that something has been plugged in, but it doesn't show anything anywhere. It's not detected by odin.
So. I want to either fix it or get it replaced. I have done a bit of research, and it looks like a jtag fix is the only thing that'll work at this point. And the jtag fix I've found is for the international galaxy s3. I'd need the correct files for the USCC/Verizon S3. I've also seen that I can send it to some place online for $60 and they'll fix it. But that takes like 2 weeks. I was thinking about bringing it back to the store and asking for a replacement.
I'm figuring I should just bring it in and act dumb. Say it wouldn't turn on today when I got up. Then they put a new battery in it, and it still doesn't work. Then they give me a replacement. But I've never returned a device like this. Any tips regarding my issue?
Yes pay for the JTAG. You broke your phone not the carrier. Pay the extra for faster shipping and it only takes a couple days then.

I would go for that, except my phone was one of the phones with the signal issues. US Cellular started offering replacements for those. I hadn't brought mine in, as I wasn't feeling up to making everything stock again. So even if I did the jtag, then I'd still have a phone that didn't work right. That's why I don't feel wrong bringing it in for a free replacement if I can.
Does anyone have any tips on sweet talking a store rep into replacing your phone?

No. We don't have any advice for helping you commit fraud. Worst of luck to you in getting a new phone for free.
But other than that, good luck
Do you have insurance? I bricked my first S3 and suddenly couldn't find it got a replacement in 4 days ($50 or $100 cannot remember ).the glass.had also shattered or I would have tried to fix it.. The glass just shattered on my current one and I ordered 2 screens.. I am going to try and repair both devices (2 screens and 1hard brick )
My thoughts have insurance or fix it yourself

Great! So we have the OP asking for guidance on how to do a fraudulent warranty claim, and now another user is bragging about committing insurance fraud. Gee, I wonder why the prices of phones and phone service are so high??

This isn't insurance fraud -- this is what insurance is for. Trying to get it warrantied is fraud, given that it was not the carrier's problem, but the insurance is there for accidental damage/loss. Accidently bricking the phone is definitely accidental damage and is clearly a legit insurance claim.

If it's a legit insurance claim, why is it he "suddenly couldn't find it" then filed the insurance claim? Why didn't he just file the claim saying he bricked his phone flashing a custom ROM? Because he knew it would be denied. He purposefully flashed custom software which bricked his phone, nothing accidental about that. I'm quite certain he filed the claim as a lost phone, not that he bricked it flashing custom software. Try filling the claim as an accidental brick from flashing a custom ROM and see how far you get with that.

All he has to say is it won't turn on. It's no fraud there. If you drive home drunk and crash the insurance won't say they aren't covering the damage to the vehicle because the driver was doing something he's not supposed to be.

I use insurance whenever I brick my phone. I dont think its fraud. If I'm paying $5 a month and a $100 deductible they better cover tinkering with the phone

If you don't have any cosmetic damage call samsung and say it died. You have a free one year manufacture warranty use it a lot of people don't I did twice. They send you a box to send your phone and send you a refurbished or new phone. They send the new device to your house with ups. The box they send for you to send your old phone is prepaid you just drop it off at the ups store. Don't waste your time with the carrier it only take a week the most to get your phone back man. Htc do the same accept they wanted me to pay for shipping.

Can't believe Verizon is doing this to me!

I am so pissed. Long story short. I ordered the s6 through Verizon, got the phone and it was great until the 10th day. I started having issues. So I told them and they said they'd send me out another. I told then I absolutely do not want a refurbished phone and they guaranteed me it would be a brand new one. Wtf do i get the next day? A refurbished piece of crap that had scratches all over when 3 different reps assured me they'd be sending me a new one. I called them back pissed.
So after hours of talking on the phone I get them to send me a brand new one that would come in the white box. They told me it would arrive on may 29th(which was 10 days away) because they were all on backorder waiting for the shipment from Samsung. So I've literally been calling every few days asking them what the update is and every time a diff rep just tells me that the order is placed and everything but it's still on backorder. This has happened 3+ times now.
It's been 3 weeks now and I just called again and told them this is it I've had enough and the guy tells me for some reason the order never processed because of some terms and conditions crap so he said he has to figure it out with his supervisor. I can't believe this seriously. Are the people at Verizon the dumbest individuals in the world or am I being toyed with here?

Why not request the replacement be noted on your account and go to a verizon store and have them replace it with a new phone?

I tried that but all of the Verizon stores in my area were totally out of stock of the black s6 and they said they'd charge me to switch colors.

Multiple issues. I experienced, Bluetooth issues, got a few scratches on the phone and occasional messed up audio when on the phone. I got them to send me a new one. Should be here Thursday. Found out he order never went through cuz the stupid supervisor didn't approve the order.

Chadly, glad to hear your issue has an end in sight, I cannot help but wonder - did you receive an order confirmation for the new GS6 from VZW?
Yeah, they sent me a new s6 and this one is perfect except for a super loose home button that rattles. Such bs. I'm waiting for them to call me back and tell me what we do now.

I haven't been impressed with Verizon customer service, either. The first phone I got was never activated, and when I called to get it activated, the rep just redid my order and sent me another phone lol. I had to reject the 2nd phone, and I finally spoke to someone that knew what they were talking about.
It seems as though 1 out of every 3 reps know their stuff, the rest have no clue.
I'm still waiting for my $100 port in credit, and I know it won't be on my 3rd billing cycle, so I'll have to call them again :/
Never even talked to a rep. did everything online. Ordered phone on Friday, arrived Sat, activated without doing much other than turning the phone on (SIM card was already installed). I didn't port my number until I checked out the phone and ported the number on Monday morning, took about 20 min and about 1/2 hour after that to get the SMS texting working right.
No communication with a rep at anytime.
Sat night when I realized I already had the latest build (was waiting for an OTA), I rooted the device with PingPongroot. Had to do it twice but it stuck and was very easy. never connected the phone to the computer (yet).

This is literally the only way to do it. Companies like VZ and Comcast intentionally provide sucky service so that you just give up because who wants to spend hours on the phone explaining your problem to people who are intentionally making it harder for you?
Well, they said they said they wouldn't send me out another new device. She said it would have to be a refurbished one this time so now I have to choose between one of these s6's or sell one of them and wait for something better to come along.

It looks like they delayed you just to be outside of the 14 day window. Anything outside that 14 day return policy can be replaced with a certified like new device. Is the home button that bad that you couldn't see living with it? Would a stiff home button eventually became loose also?

I exchanged one due to a very loose home button. It didn't register presses half the time and rattled bad. They are out there, the lemon s6s. They are far between but they do exist sadly

Yeah, pretty lame. I'm keeping the new gold one because the screen is much better. The home button doesn't rattle as much now. It's barely noticeable so I'm okay with it.

I will never get another phone phone Verizon, you can get the same phones from Best buy with no penalty for returns.
