I was wondering if we already have a repo for kernels for the GT-P51XX series tablets. I have been using an E4GT for a while now and with the level of customizations available to us, the community has benefitted greatly by having a central location to get all kernels, modems (for phones), stock/leaked roms, and its super convenient when you are looking for kernels that you might be needing at any time..
If there is such a repo already, please advise where, and if there isn't yet, how much of a demand is there for one? I can easily set one up for us, but I would need someone to let me know where to get them so I could "centralize" them

By "repo" do you mean a place where we can download the source or repo, a tool used to download & sync the Android source code and its associated git repository?

I'm talking about something like a kernel repository so its a centralized location..
Like this: rwilco's kernel repo XDA thread
rwilco's AFH site

No, we don't really have anything like that. I can't really say how much demand there is for one, though.

Yea, i think you're right, I haven't found many kernels for the GT-P5113.. but if there are at least say 5-7 kernels, I would be able to centralize them so they all could be found in one spot, and keep latest updates handy

There are 3 non-stock kernels for the 10.1:
CM10OC Kernel
BlameSamsung Kernel
Cmenard's AOKP OC kernel.

once we get kernel source, yes
We don't need kernel source to have that. Idk why people think we need source to do everything. The only good thing about kernel source is oc and uv

umm and libs and drivers aren't different between the tegra 3 and Snapdragon S4?
Yes they are but you don't need source. I come from the att note which doesn't have official ics or source and we had pa. Pa is a aosp rom like cm9 and aokp and we have both of those. Which shows kernel source is not needed

We don't need kernel source for the initial port, though we probably will to get the port bug free (for example, the CM9 build and multitouch).
I tried downloading the PA source a few days back but it kept erroring out (something about signatures not being trusted or something)
It might just be an SSL error on my PC, I'll have another go at it sometime soon. Seems like an intriguing ROM.
Yea its a cool rom. A team mate ported it to the note and its pretty bug free. I haven't looked at their sources lately but have they released source for pad?

I'm sorry I've looked at paranoid android before and for some reason I was confusing it with Coredroid.
I haz a stupid.
However, kernel source will make building an AOSP kernel much easier. Right now we're using the One S kernel source and while it works for the most part, there are still some niggling issues as can be seen in the AOKP and CM9 threads.
But hell yeah build that thang!
Yea in that aspect source will be great but since the kernel for cm9 seems good it'll work for now. But if any one does do this good luck they put their code everywhere and if you miss one strand it won't work

tips?
if i was possibly considering the idea of maybe taking a stab at this port, anyone have any tips or good reference information? i have a little java experience but am comfortable with the SDK & adb and such.

learn how to build from source first
then learn how to merge cm9 commits into a local clone of paranoidandroid repo
then build it, and upload your device tree to git for others to work on

After lurking on Samsung open source for some odd weeks it looks as if the ICS source is available for the at&t galaxy s2 skyrocket.
go here and look for SGH-I727_NA_IC_Opensource.zip. As that is the source.
Bingo, ICS Platform and Kernel source.
We can finally get a tweaked out/more stable build :good:

touchwiz or aosp roms will benefit from this. This is the floodgates to lots of **** coming now. Most importantly though, I would expect us to go RC on CM9 very soon now.
Clarification
Well, reading the posts it seems there is general lack of understanding of the Android Kernel source tree. First of all if you look at all the Celox source tree released by Samsung (Kernel) there are all based of AOSP 3.0.8. This is little bit too late . Samsung already had the Celox sources released with SHV-E110S and T-989 last month. All the proper drivers for the SGH-I727 bit are already there in that kernel source.
I doubt, I will find any difference if at all there is any in this new source. (BTW, if people who have not developed kernels Sammy sources that they release are as ****ty as it gets, they NEVER release the manufacturing source, tell me I had to fix a crap load of stuff).
As far as Cymbaline, the source is now so far merged with upstream kernel sources (which is what one does, anyways) that it would be pointless for me to even consider starting with these source. And all those useless govs, bln, oc/uc tweaks are already there in my source tree ..And anyone who is making to attempt those will need to do it exactly the same places ....

We should get CM10 as soon as CM10 nighties start. Pawitp already said that all the sources for the Captivate are in place, but he doesn't have time to compile a test build (there is a test build for the i9000 along with a thread on the i9000 forum). If all the sources are in place, it should be possible to compile from source. The kernel itself may also have to be compiled from source independently. Of course if you are able to compile the kernel from source, you can use the i9000 CM10 build and do a kernel swap.
Edit: It is important to note that a CM9 kernel will not work for a swap. THS has changed the partitioning for CM10 on the SGS devices. the /system partition from CM7/9 is not large enough for Jelly Bean, so the /datadata partition has been removed and the space has been split between /system and /cache. This means that performance for loading applications may not be as good as CM9 (at least until the cache builds up). For more details, look in pawitp's i9000 CM10 thread.
has anyone tried yet? I flashed it and it completely wiped my phone... the settings->about doesn't even say RC2.... i'm going to hold off... i think this was a test build debugger. is it just me?

dman !!! thought you was rocking the Note ?
I would recommend that you put information such as Changelog, Installation instructions, Bug tracking, Rules, etc. Because this thread is probably going to be closed if it consists only of a simple link.
Looks good tho
Doesn't seem like a good idea to post a link in the development section, of other people's work. You are doing good by informing people about the RC, but don't you think this should be in General Section.
I see that people are using the Trinity Kernel for this build (CM10). I used the Trinity Kernal with the CM9 build and was very happy with it. I want to use it with this build but I'm not sure which kernel to use. There are the 4GS kernels for ICS and then there are Galaxy Nexus kernels for JB. Which ones am I supposed to use. I would reply to the build thread but I don't have enough posts to post in the Nexus S 4g Development Thread. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Jb and ics kernels aren't cross compatible. If a kernel does not specifically indicate that it is built for jb/4.1 on Ns/4g, don't flash. With that being said, ns kernels will often work on ns4g but they must still be built for the android version you are running. Check out the dev section for available kernels, there are currently 3 jb kernels (2my knowledge) built for the ns4g. Don't hesitate to try them all I'm order to determine which works best for your device.

Thanks for the response. So even thought the Trinity site says that would be for the Galaxy Nexus it would still work? The way it lists them is as follows.
ICS Kernels (Android 4.0)
Galaxy Nexus (All)
Nexus S (All)
SGS3 (TMO/ATT)
JB Kernels (Android 4.1)
Galaxy Nexus (all)
The Seven
Now with that being said are you suggesting that I use the GN Kernel since it's for JB.
Again thank you for your help with this.

Don't do that. The GNex kernels are not for the Nexus S. In the Trinity thread there was a NS kernel released (very basic) a few pages back. Morfic is working on a new release that will work on the NS4g/jellybean. Just be patient, will be worth the wait.
Edit: just released test version ...

Hi *
I've just run trough all the setps to be able to build aosp on ubuntu. Currently I'm running a build, looks like it will take a while.
My goal is to build an aosp rom for the samsung galaxy chat, samsung provides downloads for 'platform' and kernel.
My question is, what should I do with the sources of the kernel and the platform, do I need to integrate them into the aosp source?
cheers

It would be easier for you to use the cyanogenmod source instead. I found this easier for me than trying to use aosp source.

Can you please give me the link to kernel source code??
