Plausibility of upgrading ssd in tablet? - Asus Transformer TF700

Hey guys. I rarely begin threads, and I hope this is in the right place, but what would be the plausibility of putting a new ssd into our tablet? What size would we use in the tablet or would we have to order a custom size?

The internal storage is an eMMC, soldered onto the mainboard. You can only use a microSD card with the data2sd mod.

I am not sure how easliy it would be possible to perform the task, however I know it would probably easier to just buy a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...oogleMKP&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-_-pla-_-NA-_-NA or http://www.lexar.com/node/5235. I dont know if you currently have or use the keyboard dock and what size internal SSD you have but this would give you up to 385 GB of on board storage. I dont know what you may need more storage then that for, but I know there are far easier options to tote around a lot of data then by risking going into your tablet and trying to upgrade the internal SSD,heck you can even plug and external HDD or SDD into the tablet through USB with or with out the keyboard dock needed. I hope I didn't put to much non sense down, just trying to help out a fellow XDA Member.

Here's a link to the mainboard showing the major components with the Hynix surrounded by green.
You can see it's mass produced circuitry.
Not saying it's impossible, yet it would be close to un-doable.
The pic is from the iFixit website.

As far as I know this is not possible as the 4GB are not a "disk" but only memory chips soldered on the Diamond mainboard. Unless you are going to replace the chips with some higher capacity ones you will need to stick with 4GB.
Would be nice, but I think probably impossible.
A friend told me he has managed to get the diamond to work as a USB host for an external drive, which could give you more storage, but would probably be a huge amount of work,
So what MoviNAND chip has the Diamond inside? I think that's the first point to start thinking about upgrding it!
if you get an 8gb movinand chip (because of pkg-size no 16gb possible), this shouldn't be a problem. same architecture, voltage, pinning...
i can do this at work with an ir-rework-station
here you can take a look of available movinand (bottom -> table): Samsung moviNAND

[Q] Dock angle & microsd

Hi,
I have 2 questions:
- How far can you 'open' the TF when it's in the doc? (Ie, 90°, 120°, ...) Maybe a picture?
- Little bit confused about the way a microsd works. I read somewhere that HC can't really tell the difference between the ssd storage and a microsd and that it just appears as one big memory. Which would mean that it isn't really designed to be a swappable microsd ? Is that correct? (I hope I'm making sense)
Thanks!
Picture
Best I could do with my Evo camera at work.
didn't use protractor but i would say 130 degrees. never felt the need to go max open.
Thanks!
Any info on how the microSD works ?
Microsd is separate from internal

Pretty much the same way it would work on a PC - hot swappable and separate to internal storage.

Dave
Thanks!910

USB OTG cable

Anyone know if it works on our device?
I went ahead and purchased one on Amazon for $2.00 and figured I'd try it out.
It should come in next week, but was just curious if anyone has tried it
I don't think so. It has to be enabled at the kernel level.

USB OTG is already way behind in the voting but if your really nice to jeff I bet he'll look into it as well.
Ahh I see I missed out on this.
Man to have a mass external drive for this device would have been sweet....
I cant agree more. Im hoping the new hack for my N4 evolves into a much easier method. Ive looked into a could mini otg cables to attach a 64gb flash drive that I can put music and such on.
Yeah, USB OTG is on my personal short list, but I haven't looked into it in a while. You can use 64 GB microSD cards in the SGS4G, at least the SanDisk ones I have tried. Also on my short list is moving /data to the card, between constantly running out of space and the time it takes to mount all the "move to SD" apps at boot.
But I can't use them on the nexus 4:sly:

What i meant was what about if you decide or feel the need to format your sd card....now you have to either put your back ups and song/movies on your computer or loose all and start over.
If you can put all your roms,mp3-mp4's,backups,titanium backup folder, ect. on a flashdrive and have the convienience of having all...right there at your fingertips without any concerns or computer,USB OTG would make life so much sweeter for flashaholics like me.
Edited : for spell corrections

Storage

Hey everyone I had a question. Does anyone have issues with lack of storage or is 16 or 32 enough? I'm wanting this phone but im wondering if the lack of SD card will be ok. Thanks everyone.
Space required is your personal preference.
its all up to your personal needs, i skipped n4 for the 32gig n5 and honestly i haven't used up anything more than 20gigs of my phone. Heavy gamer so i needed the space, also I do use my phone as an entertainment hub instead of a communication device, tones of songs and 4-5 movies fill up my phone.
16 wasn't enough for me. 32 may have been OK.
I have the 16GB and a Meenova USB OTG micro-SD card reader. Works nicely with Lollipop so far. (I have StickMount Pro; not sure if it's necessary but I bought it for KitKat.)
How much space does lollipop take up on the phone?

It takes nothing out of storage. Storage refers to the /data partition. ROM sits in /system partition. They're fixed sizes so it.doesn't matter how.much lollipop takes up
If you genuinely want to.understand, you can go to sticky roll-up in my signature then look for the storage thread.
Ok will do, thanks a lot!

[Completed] Need help or advice about new tablet

Hy!
I'm going to buy my first tablet tomorrow, so I'd like to ask few questions.
I tried few tablets with Android 4.4 and 5.1, but yesterday I saw new tablet in nearby store with Windows 10 home system, and its cheaper than similar spec Android tablets.
I can't post a link as new user, tablet is Mediacom winpad w700.
I might get 64Gb memory card for storage and some apps, but I'm worried if 1Gb of RAM is enough?
Also, I'd like to know if its possible to install windows 8.1 on it, I don't like windows 10 much (yet)?
Next tier tablet available here is Samsung galaxy tab 4, but its almost 2x price.
(1.2 quad core, 16Gb flash, 1.5 GB ram, and higher rez screen).
I don't want to pay too much for tablet, its just for some browsing and movies when I'm not near Pc.
Sorry for long msg, I'm new to this forum
Cheers!
It sounds like for what you want to do that will work fine. Does it have a sdcard slot? There are plenty of cheap tablets android or any os. Just remember the saying you get what you pay for.
Yep, it has SD card slot.
I just ordered it, it should be here tomorrow morning
One more question, I found some answers on kther forums saying to keep backup of OS on USB device, so not sure if its really necessary?
Is it possible to reset windows tablet to factory settings, just like android phone/tablet?
If not, any idea how much space is necessary for backup? I have 8 and 32Gb USB laying around, so if it can fit to 8Gb, it would be great.
Update
I really love it, it's better then I expected.
It takes long to reset to factory settings, and it took me even longer to find out charger needs to be connected for reset lol.
It supports 64gb sd card too.
I wish it had more ram, sometimes I get Low memory msg, but its because I keep 5-6 tabs open.
Pagefile can't help, cause this CPU (z3735g) support only 1Gb.
One more question:
I'm not sure if I can safely disable pagefile, since it's not usable?
Thx for help!
