Hello,
I started a new thread to try and gain some more experienced attention. the other two threads within this massive forum don't have any real support in the way of actual, knowledgable developers.
There are apparently a lot of people that have the AU/KDDI version of the Galaxy S III. (SCL21). There is apparently not, however a lot of support for it. If anybody has any resources or advice for rooting/moding I'm sure we'd all be very grateful.
Thanks in advance,
And happy droiding!
Bump! I know a lot of people that has this phone but there really no support on it.
I'm willing to give you something to buy your beer for your hard work.

Have you by any chance tried Bin4ry's Root Restore method? I used this to root my father's Kindle Fire HD several weeks ago, over a remote internet connection no less, and it works a charm. I can't post links yet but do a search for "Root MANY ANDROID" and you'll find it. If you do try it, you'll probably want to run it as an Administrator, I think that's how I had to do it. There have been several posts from others in that thread that have rooted their S3 variant with this. Good luck!
Hi guys,
I just got the AU SCL21 about two weeks ago. I agree, I think it's really strange that even on the Japanese forums, there is very little info on rooting this model. From everything I've found, the Japanese sites also both say it's OKAY to root using the Docomo SC-06D recovery and Superuser zip and that it's NOT safe to use that same method. Really odd, conflicting messages...
I just tried using Bin4ry's Root Restore*version 30 with the latest Samsung ADB drivers and after the ADB restore and phone reboot (while still connected to my PC), the command prompt in Windows says that Superuser failed to be installed. :/

Hi guys i'm nes on this forum, i'm italian and i have a samsung captivate i897, i also take this opportunity to introduce myself...
Now i expose you the problem:
i have a i897 captivate marked AT&T for this i have a problem to fix the GPS and to install applications outside the market, I would like you to help me to make clean OS from the applications AT & T and put in i897 a i9000 ROM not rooted...please guys help me, and thanks in advance
1. Read the new owners guide.
2. This forum is about learning things by yourself. Don't expect to be spoonfed.
3. Custom ROM always =Rooted mind you.

the new user guide (that i wrote) teaches about stickies! and where to find them!
find the stickies in the captivate general, q&a and dev forums they have all the answers you are looking for and way more.
go. read. learn.
this is really basic stuff. At&t does not like you installing apps not from the market "its called side loading" you need to be rooted to fix it and there are pleanty of guides "one click root has an option to enable non market apps" to get a different rom go to the dev sectoin chose a rom and follow the simple directions or for a guide for the entire process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Assuming what you meant was that you want ATT's crap taken off and a new ROM...
Why would you not want your device rooted? If voiding your warranty is a concern it's fine, there are plenty of methods to return back to stock Eclair/Froyo. And there really isn't a ROM out there that's head and shoulders over the rest, you're going to have to play around and see which one you like the feel of the best. Try out a different ROM every couple of days and see how you like it.

If you are asking someone to help you build a rom well... I don't think that will happen. You can go to samfirmwares.com and download a stock i9000 rom, but without root you, and if you don't know how to build to incorporate the home button and haptic feedback fixes, your phone won't work right. My suggestion is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
They are all stock i9000 roms with only busybox and root installed. I'm using the stock jvh on my captivate, at the moment, and it works great. You will have to deal with root. It's better to be rooted anyway.

Only replying to that small part of your post, and correcting you by saying no, you don't need to be rooted to sideload applications. SWM (Sideload Wonder Machine) can do it so long as you have the drivers installed and USB Debugging on. I installed several applications as soon as I got the phone, long before I ever rooted my phone, much less installed a custom ROM on it.

Why didn't you use google? There are plenty of places that explain how to root that aren't on this site, which is more an "advanced" place anyways(I use that term loosely, but I get the idea that people here assume you know a little about your phone).
Check out MobileTechVideos, the guy who does those had a three-part, in-depth ROM flash set of videos that explain exactly how to use One-Click to Root.
Edit:
Christ dude, use some decent punctuation and at least attempt to be succinct in your requests. Freaking out isn't going to get you anywhere.

i am not sure if i am posting this in the right spot but here is my question has anyone been able to root the new samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 wifi GT-P3113 8gb running ICS 4.0.3 from factory ??? any help would be great even if it is to guide me to the right forum thanks in advance
anybody? trying to root this device.
I just bought the tab 2 7.0. It's pretty nice. I requested that we get a section for it here at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617079
Does anyone know which Mod I can contact about this?
+1 for new forum... so Far loving this thing
Just got mine today, wouldn't you know it, first thing I do is look here for root even though it was just released two days ago.
Please add my vote for a new section.
I am in line too
I am in the same boat. I have tried every root process out there available for dual core Samsung devices and came up with nothing. Two things I would love to have for this device 1. Root(so I can restore my game data from my bigger tab) 2. A Bone stock ICS ROM.....I guess I should say a recovery as well so I can load a stock ICS ROM onto there.
Mine is on it's way from J&R and it's going to eventually be torn apart and put in my dash of my Nissan Altima to replace my headunit... but I def. want to root it before then, hope it can get it's own section and some dev's can root and ROM it!
i'm liking this tab, except of course lack of root yet (want to restore app data from TiBu!), but of course it's super early to expect it. i also don't like that tablet-mode statusbar/softkeys can't be hidden, so when I play fullscreen videos the buttons are always there. other than that, i am a happy camper.
agree, the notification bar always there takes some getting used to.
this needs root badly. apps2sd would be huge, among other things.
*sigh*
I am wondering how the root works an I am positive there are plenty of threads explaining this, my quesiotn is would the root be an exploit for ICS? or it is specific to Samsung?

It could go either way really. Some of the things in stock ICS are still there on Samsung's custom build of it. An exploit for either of the two is worth trying. The real problem is, how many Samsung ICS devices are there? Anyone look into trying whatever worked on the Galaxy Nexus for the Tab 2?

Sorry for the double post, but this is a method of root that could be an Android wide thing and not rely on a specific exploit. I know they use this for things like the Transformer Prime as well as the Acer A200, so I figured anyone with some development knowledge could take a look at it as I am clueless on that front.
Forgot to include the link, duh.

I tried a few things from the Acer side as well and came up with nothing. The only official ICS devices for Sammy are Galaxy nexus, and one of the galaxy S II variants. Most times they are rooted through Odin first. This device needs some pub so we can grab a dev or two's attention.

I'm chatting with a developer in private messages right now. I got him to try the mempodroid exploit and he says that it looks like they have closed the hole. Maybe I should send him a link to this thread.
Yes, please do. If a developer needs anything from the Tablet, mine will be at my house tomorrow... I have access to and know how to use ADB, so I can contribute towards helping get us root!

+1 on this. I received mine yesterday and started any known exploit with no success. If any dev needs me to test something let me know!!! We need this thing rooted yesterday and custom roms tomorrow!!!
We also need a separate forum on xda. Just saying.

I was thinking of using odin to flash the CWM for a plus 7.0. The possibility of bricking my device and not having backup to flash is holding me back though.
Once we have CWM rooting it should be as easy as flashing a zip file with SU included. Right? I'm in no way a dev, just a guy who thinks he knows what is going on.

There is a system dump of our device floating around here, but using odin is the way to go and using another devices odin method setup as a template is probably our best bet.
If we can install CWM, which would have to be built, then we could theoretically flash a superuser.zip, but I think the superuser.zip is a little more complicated than installing just the superuser.apk. I am pretty sure it also includes busy box and binaries, but I am also not a developer so I am just giving it my best educated guess.
I just got mine a few days ago and I will try to odin if you can find a compatible file. I will most certainly lie to microcenter about it being a brick to get a new one.....Just like I did with sprint. I told them it said something about an update and when I clicked it I lost power when I powered it back on it kept looping. So lets get craking on this
As you guy probably know though, you'll want to be very careful with odin. If something goes wrong or it is flashed the wrong way, you will totally screw your device up.
I am having much difficulty rooting my phone. My phone is a Docomo NEC Medias N-06C running Android 2.3.6.
So far I have tried Z4Root, Universal Androot and Gingerbreak. No luck.
I have no computer skills, so trying to use SupeOneClick or other computer programs have proven impossible for me. I have the drivers for the phone, but no idea how to install them in WIndows.
Can anyone recommend a good tool to use to download onto the phone and root from there?
Wow, a week and not a single reply. Either no one knows, or no one cares. Both makes this forum a huge disappointment. I thought this was the place to go for smart advice. I was wrong.
You have to develope it by your own, doesn't exist yet

No one here has yet created this for: your device, sadly when it comes to rooting it depends on if a developer owns the device your attempting to mod. In this case No there's no one here at Xda. Be sure to use Google thoroughly and search everything available for device you want to root. If there is nothing out there meaning no dev has ever developed anything for your specific device your next option is this " Search for a device that is similar in specs such as cpu/gpu, processor speeds, firmware versions. Now if you find devices that are similar.
"For example my device Sgh-T679 Samsung Galaxy Exhibit ⁴g has a similar device the Sgh-T679M Samsung GalaxyW they are very similar meaning devs used builds from the Sgh-T679M and ported them to the Sgh-T679 For Example: the sgh-T679 never had anything higher than Android 2.3.6 released in it. Using Sgh-T679M builds we've successfully ported over Android 4.0.4-4.1.*"
All the How To Guides are located on the web(actually if search here at Xda everything you'll need can be found here) If there are no mirror devices for the one you are using then I'm sorry if your not a developer then you may be S.O.L. Hope this has helped you and goodluck, I'm sure some where out there on the web there's someone out there who's already worked towards rooting your device. Find what you need look up the How To's you'll need to achieve what your looking for and read up If your computer literate then you may possibly be able to do it on your own. Also remember there are emulators and Android Sdk that you can use on your PC as a developing tool so you can test out the rom on your PC first. It basically I'd a program that runs your Android device in your computer so you call mod, test see what works and what doesn't work start over mod, reapply and have no risk of bricking your device in the mean time. I wish you luck and welcome to Xda.
I promise you I know computers can seems like trying to read a language you've never heard of before but here at Xda the great Developers have created flawless guides on How To's for everything involved with Android Open Source Project.
Edit: I reread your post and see you said your not very computer savy please just use the guides provided and or you will learn or meet someone along the way who will be more than happy to help you achieve what you ate trying to do goodluck friends wish you well

finally a rom for G312 U8681
Hello all first I need to thank you all for the great info on rooting my mostly ignored Huawei U8681. I'm new to this so I did a lot of reading before I bricked my unit. I believe I have found a 4.3 ROM for my phone but I haven't tried it yet so I make no claims to the quality of the info I'm about to pass on. Can someone please let me know if it was successful. It won't let me post the link cuz I'm a noob. I guess you'll have to PM me. I'll try to help as much as I am allowed.
bricked?
I tried rooting the G312 U8681 using poot as described. May have bricked it.
I did a factory reset multiple times, and now pretty much every major function (installing/upgrading apps, gmail) gives
android.process.media has stopped. And it aborts.
Any ideas on how to fix it? I can't see any 4.0.3 images.
I'm a little puzzled as to how and why your phone committed suicide. Cuz that's the only explination for it becoming bricked by running poor. I've done it numerous times and as long as you have SU, busy box and ROM Manager and then install poot and run poot. Should be just that easy.

Hi all,
Searched everywhere and simply cannot find a solution. Google throws up many fake sites and not much else.
I've purchased a gsmart saga s3, which I'm seriously impressed with, considering my history of a s5 (stolen) both variants of note 2, note 1, mega, s2 and various other devices, all of which I've successfully rooted and done minor development for, so pretty competent though not an expert
I cannot root this device in any conventional method as far as I'm aware. I've tried framaroot, playing around with backups and updates (come to this in a sec) and ADB. I've even gone Into engineer mode and turned root options on and off, as well as engineer mode. This is not dev options, its a function accessed by pressing *#*#something#*#*, can't remember offhand.
The interesting thing is, the phone has a kind of custom recovery already. I can download the firmware directly from gsmarts website and flash it from recovery. This may be a back door?
Anyway, I'm looking for any pointers in the right direction. I wish to remove the bloat mainly, but also try to develop a vanilla ROM for this phone.
I'm happy to try any suggestions at my own risk, have access to a PC, lubuntu, have adb configured but will need step by step, and anything else that may be needed ill try my best.
If there's a solution here I have a feeling a lot of people will love you guys.
Cheers for any and all replies!
