i am not sure if i am posting this in the right spot but here is my question has anyone been able to root the new samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 wifi GT-P3113 8gb running ICS 4.0.3 from factory ??? any help would be great even if it is to guide me to the right forum thanks in advance
anybody? trying to root this device.
I just bought the tab 2 7.0. It's pretty nice. I requested that we get a section for it here at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617079
Does anyone know which Mod I can contact about this?
+1 for new forum... so Far loving this thing
Just got mine today, wouldn't you know it, first thing I do is look here for root even though it was just released two days ago.
Please add my vote for a new section.
I am in line too
I am in the same boat. I have tried every root process out there available for dual core Samsung devices and came up with nothing. Two things I would love to have for this device 1. Root(so I can restore my game data from my bigger tab) 2. A Bone stock ICS ROM.....I guess I should say a recovery as well so I can load a stock ICS ROM onto there.
Mine is on it's way from J&R and it's going to eventually be torn apart and put in my dash of my Nissan Altima to replace my headunit... but I def. want to root it before then, hope it can get it's own section and some dev's can root and ROM it!
i'm liking this tab, except of course lack of root yet (want to restore app data from TiBu!), but of course it's super early to expect it. i also don't like that tablet-mode statusbar/softkeys can't be hidden, so when I play fullscreen videos the buttons are always there. other than that, i am a happy camper.
agree, the notification bar always there takes some getting used to.
this needs root badly. apps2sd would be huge, among other things.
*sigh*
I am wondering how the root works an I am positive there are plenty of threads explaining this, my quesiotn is would the root be an exploit for ICS? or it is specific to Samsung?

It could go either way really. Some of the things in stock ICS are still there on Samsung's custom build of it. An exploit for either of the two is worth trying. The real problem is, how many Samsung ICS devices are there? Anyone look into trying whatever worked on the Galaxy Nexus for the Tab 2?

Sorry for the double post, but this is a method of root that could be an Android wide thing and not rely on a specific exploit. I know they use this for things like the Transformer Prime as well as the Acer A200, so I figured anyone with some development knowledge could take a look at it as I am clueless on that front.
Forgot to include the link, duh.

I tried a few things from the Acer side as well and came up with nothing. The only official ICS devices for Sammy are Galaxy nexus, and one of the galaxy S II variants. Most times they are rooted through Odin first. This device needs some pub so we can grab a dev or two's attention.

I'm chatting with a developer in private messages right now. I got him to try the mempodroid exploit and he says that it looks like they have closed the hole. Maybe I should send him a link to this thread.
Yes, please do. If a developer needs anything from the Tablet, mine will be at my house tomorrow... I have access to and know how to use ADB, so I can contribute towards helping get us root!

+1 on this. I received mine yesterday and started any known exploit with no success. If any dev needs me to test something let me know!!! We need this thing rooted yesterday and custom roms tomorrow!!!
We also need a separate forum on xda. Just saying.
BTW, Diablo - awesome idea for the head unit. I'm interested to see how it works out!
I went ahead and sent him a link to the thread so we can document any findings that anyone comes across.
I was thinking of using odin to flash the CWM for a plus 7.0. The possibility of bricking my device and not having backup to flash is holding me back though.
Once we have CWM rooting it should be as easy as flashing a zip file with SU included. Right? I'm in no way a dev, just a guy who thinks he knows what is going on.

There is a system dump of our device floating around here, but using odin is the way to go and using another devices odin method setup as a template is probably our best bet.
If we can install CWM, which would have to be built, then we could theoretically flash a superuser.zip, but I think the superuser.zip is a little more complicated than installing just the superuser.apk. I am pretty sure it also includes busy box and binaries, but I am also not a developer so I am just giving it my best educated guess.
I just got mine a few days ago and I will try to odin if you can find a compatible file. I will most certainly lie to microcenter about it being a brick to get a new one.....Just like I did with sprint. I told them it said something about an update and when I clicked it I lost power when I powered it back on it kept looping. So lets get craking on this
As you guy probably know though, you'll want to be very careful with odin. If something goes wrong or it is flashed the wrong way, you will totally screw your device up.

Hi guys i'm nes on this forum, i'm italian and i have a samsung captivate i897, i also take this opportunity to introduce myself...
Now i expose you the problem:
i have a i897 captivate marked AT&T for this i have a problem to fix the GPS and to install applications outside the market, I would like you to help me to make clean OS from the applications AT & T and put in i897 a i9000 ROM not rooted...please guys help me, and thanks in advance
1. Read the new owners guide.
2. This forum is about learning things by yourself. Don't expect to be spoonfed.
3. Custom ROM always =Rooted mind you.

I read the guide but i'm desperate,do you recommend something? can u post the link of the better rom and kernel that i can use? im noob in android world
I can't recommend anything man. Everything is good.
You have to discover by yourself what suits your needs.

the new user guide (that i wrote) teaches about stickies! and where to find them!
find the stickies in the captivate general, q&a and dev forums they have all the answers you are looking for and way more.
go. read. learn.
this is really basic stuff. At&t does not like you installing apps not from the market "its called side loading" you need to be rooted to fix it and there are pleanty of guides "one click root has an option to enable non market apps" to get a different rom go to the dev sectoin chose a rom and follow the simple directions or for a guide for the entire process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Assuming what you meant was that you want ATT's crap taken off and a new ROM...
Why would you not want your device rooted? If voiding your warranty is a concern it's fine, there are plenty of methods to return back to stock Eclair/Froyo. And there really isn't a ROM out there that's head and shoulders over the rest, you're going to have to play around and see which one you like the feel of the best. Try out a different ROM every couple of days and see how you like it.

If you are asking someone to help you build a rom well... I don't think that will happen. You can go to samfirmwares.com and download a stock i9000 rom, but without root you, and if you don't know how to build to incorporate the home button and haptic feedback fixes, your phone won't work right. My suggestion is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
They are all stock i9000 roms with only busybox and root installed. I'm using the stock jvh on my captivate, at the moment, and it works great. You will have to deal with root. It's better to be rooted anyway.

Only replying to that small part of your post, and correcting you by saying no, you don't need to be rooted to sideload applications. SWM (Sideload Wonder Machine) can do it so long as you have the drivers installed and USB Debugging on. I installed several applications as soon as I got the phone, long before I ever rooted my phone, much less installed a custom ROM on it.

Why didn't you use google? There are plenty of places that explain how to root that aren't on this site, which is more an "advanced" place anyways(I use that term loosely, but I get the idea that people here assume you know a little about your phone).
Check out MobileTechVideos, the guy who does those had a three-part, in-depth ROM flash set of videos that explain exactly how to use One-Click to Root.
Edit:
Christ dude, use some decent punctuation and at least attempt to be succinct in your requests. Freaking out isn't going to get you anywhere.

how did you brick your phone?
Did you odin it a Vibrant ROM instead of SGS 4G?

Is your phone really a GALAXY S 4G or do you have an EPIC 4G like the other guy or an GALAXY S, or any of the other models that people think are this phone and then flash the wrong stuff to it.
together orienh
Its a Samsung Galaxy 4g by tmobile. i flashed the vibrant stuff on there which when i download the tom it did not say it was for vibrant,.
I used Odin to do it with.
i been trying to get it into down load mode since i done bricked it. looks like i might end up buying one of those usb jig to force it.
I ave flashed phone in the past but mostly blackberry's to different carriers.
so as a noob i F**cked up on my personal phone which i have a back up which is not a big deal. all i wanted to do was upgrade from fryo to ice-cream or something better.
Sucks that as of now not given the opertunity to up date software.

"What time is it?"
I typically run something close to Team Acid's CM9. Recently it has been with Hefe Kernel of Darkness, the auto-brightness mods, and I build with TWRP (since I have come to prefer it over Clockwork recovery). I like AOKP for some of its features as well, and find the two perform similarly for me.
Right now I'm running CM9 mainly because of the work on the Aries kernel I'm doing. Team Acid needs to get it running on one ROM solidly before seeing if there are ROM-related things that also need to be resolved.

WOW REALLY? That "unhelpful" link is Samsungs stock firmware repository. Click link, Register, click firmware, search device number, DL firmware for ODIN. How does it feel having your hand held like a little kid?
you know, it snot-nosed stuck-up kids like you that make us not want to help people. first, you post this thread with absolutely no helpful information on what you did to your phone. second, it's obvious you didn't search before you posted, otherwise you wouldn't have posted this thread. third, when people were being helpful and i mean very helpful (most would just point and laugh or flame at you for posting this thread), you don't even thank them. and finally after someone basically held your hand and gave you probably the most helpful link in regards to which rom to flash with odin, you go and disrespect him. but i can also see that maybe there is a little sense in your head cause you actually did use the search feature of this forum and found something helpful also. but that's only "one thing positive for you. hopefully you will learn something from this though. and now i'm going to quote something from someone you may know...

Good evening everyone,
Ok i wanted to clear something up for one.
I did research out my wazoo before posting this.
i posted plain and simple what my phone was doing.
Did not think you had say hey i have a zebra phone. My phone got bricked. yes my fault. i did more research found nothing that's why i posted the basic info thinking someone would say try this.
Ok for the ones who tried to help me thanks but i have gotten one rude person who replied originally. after i posted.
to the guy who posted the link for sammobile now all you did was posted a link thanks but on your side you could have told me register first to get what i need. but you did not so when i went to that link it looked like a place for viriusis, my Virus scanner went off so i posted what i posted, after i seen your post after i post i did what you said and ok some reason all was good. now before anyone replied back, i still did me research and found someone with something helpful not using Odin the link i posted and i said thanks to that person on there thread. I have never flashed an android phone before. i have done blackberries from carrier to carrier sprint to cricket.
For those who were helpful and not rude to me Thank you.
And report me go ahead fine. i am just now getting home from work to reply back to this and say thanks for who have helped.
Have a great day.
That is all.
I don't see anything in this thread worthy of reporting.....what's so horrible here?
What I see is some reading to deeply into things....but nothing said or done againsts any xda rules....other than some non vulgar name calling which was actually done by someone who is doing the reporting.
Sorry but this is sad.
Way to treat a new Guy!.....
@OP
The guy who posted the link for Sammobile is the same guy who "rudely" replied to you. That guy is me. If you think that reply was rude so be it. You provided ZERO useful info. Still haven't. I'm glad you got your phone back up and running. Please stay on stock until you decide to take the time and learn a few things.
OK first off, you need a new virus scanner. That website literally how we got gingerbread on this phone until it was official October last year.
Or you have a bad site open in another tab.
You should have at least looked around the website.
2. One of the first stickies in the general section is the DON'T FLASH ANY VIBRANT ROM thread. It is NOT the same phone.
3. This phone is called the SGH- T959V for future reference.
4. Next time you post, don't blame the guy that helps you.
@hechoen. Just for reference. The website only has leaked firmware up to KI1. You have to go to sampro.pl for KJ6. (It is in polish, and you need an account.(use google chrome for a translator))
If possible, I'm willing to donate $100 or more to a developer that is willing to cook up a Jellybean 4.2.1 or 4.2.2 custom rom for the VM Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE. Possibly an AOKP rom. It's being worked on. The Galaxy S3 (d2) and the Victory (goghspr) are similar, but not exactly the same. The display is different, and there are not any other devices I can find with the same display as the goghspr. WIFI is not the same, BT is not the same, etc. There is already a booting CM-10 for the goghspr, but I stopped work on it to move to CM-10.1. The link you provided is to the post of a guy I'm also working with, g60madman. Give us time. I'm working on the kernel when I can (I'm disabled and have a new painful injury to deal with). The apexqtmo guys have been very helpful and are allowing me to dig through their work to get some stuff for the goghspr/goghvmu kernel. I already have cm-10.1 building, but it won't boot until I get the drivers ported. Create thread with the device name and show the generation of interest as often as possible. I've already requested a dedicated forum, but there needs to be a real NEED for it before we can get it. Cheers and out!

Maybe this will help:
http://www.oudhitsquad.com/android/Samsung/SPH-L300/Mod/recovery/TWRP-2.5.tar
Remember, uncheck auto-reboot. Once flash is finished, pull USB cable and battery. Replace battery and boot directly into recovery using VOLUP+POWER until blue letters are seen in upper left corner. Release buttons. That should get you going. Use goomanager to update to TWRP 2.6

where do i utilize that file in odin? im real new. thanks human!

If possible, I'm willing to donate $100 or more to a developer that is willing to cook up a Jellybean 4.2.1 or 4.2.2 custom rom for the VM Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE. Possibly an AOKP rom. I'm currently running cmbaughman's PACMAN rom atm and I love it. So if it is possible, $100 donation goes to the first runner up.

You can Load a Custom VERSION Thou. Read READ READ .. ITS on on here
Sorry for putting this in wrong place... I have read a few posts but understand them. Tried you tube and they were for other models, I did root already but it was like so easy it was just one click.

If you do not care for Samnusmg stock, then I would suggest that you flash the Carbon ROM KitKat 4.4.2. This ROM is AOSP but is like cream cheese - smooooth and bug free. I have a N8013. Samsung based KitKat is a really poor effort from Samsung. It is quite average...
If you are bent on having Sam stock, try Gnabo ROM. Actually, try carl1961's method here first to get an idea of KK on the device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770009 .
It is a very good starting point. Be careful what recovery you flash. For all I have suggested, Philz advanced CWM recovery works smoothly.....Flash this first then theROM.
Good luck!

My device has become very slow but I am a downloading fool. What programs (many I have are duplicates with slightly differing features,) from file managers, to apk's utilized by most are the power hoarders?
Where can I find a copy of KitKat that is working, and AOSP as I am assuming I have to install that instead of the aroma installer I have used.
I look forward to all your help. A sort of perplexed person in Philadelphia.
I am running kit kat on my 8013 and it works great. Find "Gnabo rom" thread on xda.

Galaxy Note GT - N8013 unlock software is not listed the N8000 is; will it work?
I am begging for information to let me restore my tablet to its factory default state. As you can tell from below, I have used two 64 gig mem cards, and have only 2 gig of the 16 gig of internal storage left as I am an electronic tidbit hoarder. I want to upgrade my tablet and have a buyer if I restore the tablet to its pre purchase state. Please help as this device is not listed on GalaxyUnlocker. The closest device is the samsung N8000 ..... Any advices, opinions, hints, or feelings will all be tried.
Please help the hoarder in Philadelphia
Thank you

Get stock firmware from Samsung or Sammobile.com . and flash with ODIN.
Unfortunately Samsung will not be releasing any updates past 4.1.2 for the gt-n8013. They have come to the conclusion that anyone in north america does not deserve an update and will never release the update for the tablet even though they had an official press release stating we would get the update.
They don't care that you paid a premium and promised updates for this tablet. They expect you to buy a new tablet every year to get any android updates!
Two words! LEAVE SAMSUNG!
custom roms
So i rooted my gt n8013 using key root master i used root checker it said it was rooted. Now i did this with no pc just my tab .so what custom recovery should i install next that installs without a pc ? And once that is done is there a way to flash a custom rom for kit kit onto the device without a pc ? And which one do you recommend? Sorry for all the questions new to all this

So can this be installed without a pc
Pretty sure you need a pc to get the custom recovery installed.
Really then what does the cwm recovery app do?

Any custom recovery needs to be designed to Work for your specific device. It may be possible to install a custom recovery with an app but you should definately do lots of reading before you attempt it.

No "Development" in Settings
I'm pretty new to this, so have patience with me.
Just installed KitKat 4.4.2 on my GT-N8013. I wanted to tick the USB Debugging" checkbox, but there is no development section in the settings.
Am I missing something ?
Yes you are. In order activate the developer section you have to tap on build number about 7 or so times. That will make it appear.

Well there goes that... I thought maybe someone on XDA would have had something, saw this and was like yes!!! I didn't waste my money on a Walmart purchase of a cheapo tablet. Well yeah.... *SIGH* All because the thank you button wasn't pushed enough? Maybe there are not that many people (owners of this tablet on XDA) yet to push the button?

Also didn't realize that pushing the button made people this depressed? Wonder how we'll all survive the Zombocalypse if people don't start pushing the thank you button? Just saying.... :silly:

Vampirefo, I really wish you had not killed this one. Yes, people are sh---ts. But not all you know. I for one appreciate all the work you have done on this tablet. Cheap with a lot of upside potential. And if you really brick it, you are only out $78! Any chance of your reconsidering re-posting the links and taking up the cause again?
this guy was a baby if he thinks he needs a pat on the back for prepping a rom...what a dickweed. shame on him for needing some confidence
The ARES should live!!!!
I for one think that YES there are MANY and MANY an asshole on the internet, But this Tablet does have some great potential., And now there is also the ARES 8L with has the EXACT same hardware as the ARES 8 but also has support for 4G LTE Data, through Verizon, I think,.... ANyway I would love to see more done with this Tablet., I myself have gotten into a Jam., I rooted my ARES removed the encryption and installed TWRP recovery., But I was playing around later, actually using an official NextBookusa.com flashing tool, (i know stupid idea) and I formatted the System partition., So now all I can do with the Tab is boot into TWRP or boot into the Bootloader... It sucks., I need a TWRP backup that I could download and place on my SD card., But it seems that there was a lot of excitement (or at least activity) about this tablet for a while and then it all just died away., I personally would LOVE to see it come back.,
-Eric
P.S. If anybody out there would be willing to upload a copy of their TWRP backup from an ARES 8 that would be awesome!! Please just PM me...
P.P.S If I knew how to make my own custom mod I would... My lack of knowledge in that area is almost criminal....

Please reconsider your decision......
Or at least replace the links and just let everybody know that you will not be doing any future work on the project?
The ARES is the ONLY tablet I own, I don't have the budget to buy anything else and currently my ARES tablet has no OS installed at all., I NEED a ROM, or even just a TWRP backup of the original!!! Otherwise all I have is a paper weight and not even $78 in my wallet to buy another....
I implore you good sir, at least replace/ re-post some working links before you walk away from the project...

vampirefo I don't suppose you either still have this file or a bone stock boot and system img for the 5.1.1 firmware do you? This device was given to my roomie's daughter and the only way I could recover it was with your other rom. I mostly want the 5.1.1 image for updated blobs and build.prop, but having the images would help with other projects I'm considering.
