Ok I have not flashed a ROM on the S3 yet, but coming from the Incredible every time you flashed you had to flash Gapps too. And most ROM threads would have a link or at least instructions to do so. But it seems that this is either a given or is no longer the case because I almost never see a mention of Gapps anymore. Maybe the rock I have been living under caused me to miss this. So do I still have to flash Gapps 4.2 too? Thanks.

Yes you do of you flash an AOSP ROM, but if you flash a TW ROM they are included. I'm assuming you flashed CM10.1 since you mentioned 4.2 so you will need the correct gapps. You can find the latest here http://goo.im/gapps

The 12/12 version is the most recent. If you don't want goo manager is pretty easy to find elsewhere via Google.
Oh that's why! I have only been considering TW ROMs. Thanks!

If you want a more stock experience, I strongly recommend EaglesBlood ICS 4.04 AOSP, build 5.5 with 5.6 kernel. These guys also fixed the data drop problem. It's the smoothest ICS ROM I've seen. Also, it uses the Aroma Installer, and supports both the OLD and NEW baseband.. it defaults to the OLD baseband when installing, so you shouldn't have any problems.
For this sweet setup, just do the following and you should be good to go:
1.) Install Build 5.5 zip through CWM Recovery - developer.clockworkmod.com/downloads/718/3127/egb-nightly-2012-07-01-signed.zip
2.) Install latest GApps zip RIGHT after that in CWM Recovery - goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
3.) Install Kernel 5.6 zip right after that in CWM Recovery - dropbox.com/s/p8z8sdy7iwemegk/eb_p999_beta5.6.zip
4.) [Added Bonus] Install Default Browser Rotation/Flickering Fix right after THAT in CWM Recovery - charlie.d-h.st/k7J/00010/Browser-rotationfixed-tonyp.zip?key=1343730743 (by tonyp)
The above links work. Unfortunately, I can't supply the nice clickable outside links until I have more postings under my belt.
genesis is pretty awesome, too. Tons of options, aroma installer, both basebands supported, CM9 and AOKP fusion.
My advice is try them all out. Pretty much anything on here is better than stock. See what fits you and your phone the best

I am looking at different ROMs and I am curious, if I already have gapps -jb-20120726-signed.zip on my phone, there is no need to grab it again, right?
That is to say, the gapps for AOPK is the same as the gapps for CM10?
You'll need to reflash it when u flash or new ROM. I've used the same gapps for different phones ie. even. Works for all.

Running a recent PACman ROM nightly (22.0.1) but the battery life is pretty bad. Absolutely love everything else so I was hoping a different kernel might help out a bit in the battery department. Tried flashing the latest Lean Kernel but when I tried to boot I got a pink "SAMSUNG GALAXY SIII" screen and it just hung there. I've got a backup so no worries on that front. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?
What is the file name of the Leankernel zip that you flashed? Sounds like you flashed the TW version.

I think that's it:
lk_s3vzw_tw_jb-v2.2.zip
Tried flashing Zeus kernel too but I had the same issue minus the pink. I feel like I'm missing something really obvious. I'm new to all this stuff. What does the tw designation mean, exactly?
Figured out the TW thing. I'm guessing if they aren't in the dev forms then there are no AOSP versions available then? Hope they pop up soon.
TW = Touchwiz, which is the software that Samsung had on the phone before you flashed this custom rom. You're looking for the AOSP version of Leankernel, well any kernel you intend to flash, for PacMan. Go to the Verizon GSIII section of Rootzwiki and click on the AOSP Leankernel thread. Download any of the 5.0 versions of AOSP Leankernel.
Oh, and Imoseyon is not making an xda thread. So that isn't happening lol

Awesome just got the latest LeanKernel build. already flashed Ktoonsez so i'll see how that works out for a few days then switch over and give Lean a try. Thanks for the info.
So after I flashed 10.2 I can only boot my Verizon s3 on the first initial boot. If I ever have to reboot the phone, it locks up at cyanogenmod flash screen. The only way I can get the phone to boot back up after this, is to do a battery pull and boot into twrp. Then do a full format, doing just a factory reset doesn't work. Once I complete a full format, I can restore one of my backup images and the phone will boot once, and that's it. Then I have to start the process all over again, any ideas?
Don't know if this helps but I'm currently running OSE 4.3.1, but have tried with dirty unicorn & liquid smooth.

Well I managed to get this fixed not 100 percent sure on how, what I did was flash stock deodexed image in twrp, then started flashing from 10.1.3 and then to 10.2. I'm not sure which helped, but after this I was able to restore any of my previous roms and they boot just fine now.

Were your backups all AOSP 4.3 as well or TW?

I find if I'm getting an infinite bootloop like that, flashing stock seems to sort **** out. That's the case on the LG and Motorola phones I've owned as well.

Yep I guess so, still learning on all of this custom rom stuff. I tried everything prior to just flashing stock rooted rom, wasted a ton of time wish I would of thought of it sooner.
Below are some current rom's that i'm running all seem to be very stable with very little bugs.
Current Rom:[ROM][OFFICIAL][4.3] CM10.2 M1 for d2vzw so far this rom seems to be very stable have only had one random reboot since I flashed it yesterday.
Backup Up Rom's:
1. So far my all time favorite with very little issues:[ROM][4.3.1][Official][OSE Rom][d2vzw]
2. I really enjoy this rom only complaint is the cell service on it doesn't seem to be quite as stable:[ROM] [Team D.I.R.T] Dirty Unicorns 4.3.1 - d2vzw v3.9
3. Another very stable rom, only complaint is with the radio sometimes after a reboot radio doesn't work and you have to do a battery pull:[ROM][4.3][OFFICIAL] LiquidSmooth v2.10 - d2vzw - 10|6|13

I wonder if we'll see this issue pop up with the TW 4.3 OTA we're rumored to receive this month.

Hi, its been a while since I've flashed anything, I rooted my S4 months ago but never put any recovery or rom on it.. I have cwm on it right now but would like to try twrp but goo manager is having some issues my build number is jdq39.1337mvluamg1.. What can I Flash is anything.. there's just too much info and a lot of post with no or little direct answer..
Thanks... And yes I did search
Flash kangabean ROM if you're looking for AOSP experience. If you want to remain on touchwiz try GoldenEye. It has 4.3 software and is smooth as fk... Unless you're Canadian then you'll experience data drops during calls. I'm using kangabean right now and I'm enjoying it.

Like I said I rooted the phone months ago just didn't want to flash anything until now (I was flashing every week with my other phones lol) Goo manger was not working so I used odin to flash Twrp 2502 for now.. My mean question is it ok to flash my build ver and should I flash a older rom then the new ones for kernel and other things..
am not familiar with your build as i am att
2.5.0.2 is what i use no issues, there is a flashable zip you can keep on sd if you want
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yhrq0tia8512rj9/FCjN8C9RMT/TWRP_Flashable-2.5.0.2.zip
on att some roms required having taken at least the mdl version. not sure if that is something that would apply to Canadian builds. that's why i posted first link. it may have some useful info. someone with Canada will reply here also--
