I have an htc one s s3, I unlocked the bootloader and flashed a a recovery without any issue, then I wiped data, system and cache and tried to flash an s4 rom (mistakenly, of course and the instalation was aborted and gave me an asserts error), and after that I rebooted my phone without problems but then when i tried to boot into recovery to flash an s3 rom my phone didn't boot into anything, no system, no recovery and no bootloader, my phone shows an HTC screen for a couple of seconds and then the screen goes black but keeps lit. The hard reset flashes the capacitivr keys and again HTC imagr and black screen. I really don't know what to do, please help

I sometimes find that I must hold down only the "volume down" button after pushing the power button to turn it on.

Hold down power for 10 seconds
Then when it turns off press volume down and keep holding it until it boots into hboot, select recovery or fast boot and do your thing

I know I know, I'm an idiot. I've done this a few times before on my old Droid X, but clearly don't have the experience to be doing this. I now have a RAZR MAXX HD and was attempting to flash RageHE v1.1. Here's what I did and where I am: I unlocked, rooted and flashed stock system, kernel and radio as well as TWRP recovery using Matt Groff's utility. I made a backup in TWRP and then wiped dalvik/cache etc. I then mounted system etc and it asked me if I wanted to reboot. I did, and now I'm stuck on the unlocked bootloader screen. It won't even power down -- I can hold down vol +/- and power and it will temporarily power down, but as soon as I let go it powers back up.
What do I do??? Am I screwed?
well I managed to get it to power down -- I read on droidrzr.com that I could hold power + vol +/- and then as soon as it powers off, quickly press vol +/- again to avoid it powering back up. So now at least I'm powered down, but what do I do next?
OK I think I'm good -- once I got it powered off I was able to power back up using power + vol +/- and boot into TWRP where I restored from my backup. Sorry was freaking out a bit -- shouldn't be messing with things I don't understand well enough

press both power + volume down until it boots on bootloader. then choose recovery, press power and do necessary steps to flash a new rom
You need to restore your cwm or twrp backup in this case...
You phone's not restarting properly coz the custom myt have been missing a file or you might have forgotten to clear the data, caches and delvik cache before installing the custom rom zip file...
As of now...i recommend you restore your backup first

In TWRP, I wiped everything but internal storage. I thought it was a norm coming from a S4 but I don't think I should have done that now. I have the factory image downloaded. Just trying to get into fastboot mode.
I got into fastboot mode. the mistake I was making was that I was stop holding the buttons once the phone powered off.
Yeah...this boot stuck thing happend to me too...during custom rom installation...

If you long press the power button to force a reboot as soon as the screen goes off hold down the volume down button and it will put you into the bootloader screen, Getting to recovery from there is a piece of cake. Holding the volume down button at the beginning of a reboot (when screen is off) to get to the bootloader and/or recovery screen has worked on every device I've tried it on. Just one more way.

Not being able to get to the bootloader is almost always a case of user error. Hold the volume down button, then hold the power button (so you're holding both buttons together), after a couple of seconds let go of the power button but continue to hold the volume down button until you reach the bootloader.
PS. What is the full filename of the ROM you flashed?
Hey everyone,
Randomly my Nexus 5 stoped booting yesterday, not progressing further than the Google boot logo. I can reach the option to load the recovery mode, but, once selected from the vol down+power menu it loads into a similar black screen.
From what I understand this is a soft-brick issue, but I'm unsure of how to reflash if I cannot access the recovery mode.
Please help
no need for recovery, you need to get back to bootloader. from there flash the factory image.

I have the same problem. I'm stuck in boot loop without a custom recovery. I did the flash-all.bat from the bootloader but it's still in boot loop. I also factory reset and wiped cache. Any other suggestions?
After flashing, boot back into fastboot and run these commands from a Windows machine:
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img (the userdata.img file can be extracted from the stock ROM for flashing in fastboot)
After running the 2 commands, boot back into recovery and perform a full wipe of data and cache, then reboot.
I did everything you said successfully but it's still stuck in boot loop.
Edit: I fixed my phone!
I just used this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...l-06-03-14-one-click-factory-restore-t2513937) and ran recovery_Nexus5 batch file. This will downgrade to Android version 4.4.4 though.

Hmm, but the power button works fine. I can "boot" into the google launch logo, and/or turn "on"/"off" the screen using it (black screen but illuminated by backlight).
