I was flashing a new ROM and I got stuck at the google logo upon bootup. I tried holding power button to power it off. It does, then turns right back on.

press both power + volume down until it boots on bootloader. then choose recovery, press power and do necessary steps to flash a new rom
You need to restore your cwm or twrp backup in this case...
You phone's not restarting properly coz the custom myt have been missing a file or you might have forgotten to clear the data, caches and delvik cache before installing the custom rom zip file...
As of now...i recommend you restore your backup first

In TWRP, I wiped everything but internal storage. I thought it was a norm coming from a S4 but I don't think I should have done that now. I have the factory image downloaded. Just trying to get into fastboot mode.
I got into fastboot mode. the mistake I was making was that I was stop holding the buttons once the phone powered off.
Yeah...this boot stuck thing happend to me too...during custom rom installation...

If you long press the power button to force a reboot as soon as the screen goes off hold down the volume down button and it will put you into the bootloader screen, Getting to recovery from there is a piece of cake. Holding the volume down button at the beginning of a reboot (when screen is off) to get to the bootloader and/or recovery screen has worked on every device I've tried it on. Just one more way.

I believe it's actually press&hold power up, then press volume up.
Moot point for the OP, but good to know for future problems.

To get to STOCK recovery from fastboot, it's select "boot recovery" then power FIRST, then while HOLDING power, it's volume up. You can't do it the other way.
To flash a new recovery, it's fastboot mode on the phone, then on your computer (hooked to the phone via usb) the command is "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". (recovery.img is replaced by whatever name your recovery image actually has.)
Hey guys I have a recovery problem. I rooted my O1 and then tried to install cwm using app from market but when I try to enter recovery it starts fastboot Hopefully normal mode works and the phone boots into rom. So I tried reviving it using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088046 but still have the same problem. So what do I have to do ????
I have another question: I found in settings of rom manager erase recovery prior to flashing an.I didn't tick it so do I have to tick it???

You dont need to tick Erase Recovery.
Press HOME + VOLUME then power.. keep holding them til you see recovery!!
If it doesnt work.. flash recovery again using Rom Manager.
Also try to get into recovery through rom manager if nothing works!!
I'm having the same issue. Just flashed CWM with Rom Manager today. It worked a few times, but now it's not. I cannot select any option on the list. The back and search buttons blank out the screen except for the rom manager logo (also the background) and if I hit them again, the "cursor" has moved up or down, depending. If I press the power button, it also blanks out the screen except for the logo, but when I press it again, the cursor goes back to the top. The only button that doesn't make it blank out is volume down. Home and Menu buttons do nothing.
Also, doesn't matter if I load recovery manually or through RM.
UPDATE: Managed to get it stuck on the RM Logo. Nothing does anything.
UPDATE: Flashed VM670 Recovery with FlashImageGUI and am getting similar results. Now both volume keys allow for selecting, home and menu allow for selecting with the cleared screen, and power, back, and search do nothing but move the cursor to the top. If I hold the power button, though, the screen flashes and the cursor doesn't move.
I had same problem on my vm670 try using camera button to select . Worked for me

Don't forget that the camera button is a 2-step button. You have to press it all the way in for it to register in CWM. Also, I'm running CWM 3.2.0.1 and the Volume buttons work for me just fine.
And for the one who couldn't get into recovery, have you tried booting normally, connecting it to your computer, and running this at a command prompt?
adb reboot recovery
I have an htc one s s3, I unlocked the bootloader and flashed a a recovery without any issue, then I wiped data, system and cache and tried to flash an s4 rom (mistakenly, of course and the instalation was aborted and gave me an asserts error), and after that I rebooted my phone without problems but then when i tried to boot into recovery to flash an s3 rom my phone didn't boot into anything, no system, no recovery and no bootloader, my phone shows an HTC screen for a couple of seconds and then the screen goes black but keeps lit. The hard reset flashes the capacitivr keys and again HTC imagr and black screen. I really don't know what to do, please help

I sometimes find that I must hold down only the "volume down" button after pushing the power button to turn it on.
Ive been trying to update to 5.1, it was rooted with 5.0.1 and Team win
ive tried up update with the flash all but that just had plenty of errors ( error cant load/doesnt exisit )
then i tried to use fastboot, fastboot flash radio, system, bootloader, userdata etc
now its just been showing the boot sequence for quite a while
ive tried repeating the fastboot comands after re-settning it and going into the boot laoder but no luck
recovery results in the dead android screen
The dead Android is the stock recovery. When you see it press and hold power, then press and release vol up. Do a factory reset in the stock recovery.

Thanks - fixed it , Its been a while since i flashed anything so im a bit rusty
So I manage to unbrick my phone without a computer. I already had c11 ROM on it. I forgot to wipe factory and wipe partition. I end up flashing a new ROM on top of my old one. When it reboot. It got suck on the bootload screen. Not actually stuck like just a loading bootload screen. It constantly boot flash on and off. Like the phone is turning off and back on. It never stayed on. So I took out the battery. Put it back in. Tried turning it on again. It did the same thing. So I hold down the power button+ volume up+ home key. This give you the adba to connect to the computer. When it comes up don't press up to connected to the computer. Press down to cancel. Once you cancel it will reboot again and you will be rebooting normally. Don't know if it was a soft brick or a hard brick but it worked..
Oh thanks, I didn't know There was a Volume down button to function as "not to connect" to the computer. Thanks. First I thought you were just posting about your problem. The solution came to me as a surprise.
anytime
No prob anytime.. I wonder if they will continue to build ROM for the SGS3. Because it does have 2gb of ram. Which still have more than some of the new phones. There owners who still love and cherished the SGS3.
OK so found out why it went into a boot loop. Some how I manage to delete stock recovery. While I tried to install twrp. I installed the wrong version and it did not take. So it malfunction causing it to bootloop. I reinstall twrp with the newest verison. It work.. It replaced the stock cwm and place the twrp in its place. Now I have recovery and no boot loop. Problem fix..

So if you having boot loop and can't get to your recovery mode. Download twrp. Go install. Select your device. A list of twrp version will appear. Select the first which is the newest version. Hit install. Once it download. Its ask to install. Hit yes and then it will ask to reboot.. Hit yes. Your phone will reboot into twrp recovery with a new look and touch buttons. Instead of the factory mash up or down and power button for select.
Sent from my SCH-R530M using XDA-Developers mobile app
After you done this make sure you have a back up file with this new twrp as your recovery on sdcard. Hit wipe cache, data and dalvik.. Then restore file.. There you all fixed..
Sent from my SCH-R530M using XDA-Developers mobile app
This is for those who don't know how to use terminal emulator. Most don't know the commands. But in terminal you can hit su, then grant permission. Hit wipe and it will tell you what choice. Such as data, system or dalvik. But you have to clarify your command. It will wipe you phone and sdcard. Then restore you phone. But it won't restore the boot loop. Cause of the file either missing, corrupt or not there. It will continued to boot loop until you reinsall you new recovery mode. Any question contact me and I will respond back as soon as possible
