[ANSWER] Disable Jelly Bean "Battery saver" - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I saw no one so far had posted anything about the Power saver thing so i thought this could help those with the same questions I had. Anyways, I noticed a lot of people wondering how to get that stupid HTC 'Power saver' notification out of the pulldown menu. I have no idea why JB has this here by default with no stock option to remove it. It's annoying, Takes up space, and its damn UGLY.
Here are a couple methods, all of which are pretty easy.
- Go into ESexplorer (any file exploring program) and locate HtcPowerManager.apk
You must mount up to root
-Delete that ish.
OR
-Go into titanium backup and freeze it.
Really really simple to do and i honestly haven't noticed any better battery life with this thing checked on. But basically what you want to do is find this .apk file and disable it to some level. Hope this helps.
_I'm not going to beg you for thanks, subscription, donate or any other Horse s__t.
Just do something nice for someone else.:highfive:

Nice! Was looking for an alternate method to doing this, I flashed the mod in newts thread but it didn't work. This worked perfectly. :highfive:

One thing to note with doing this is that you will lose the ability to see power stats for the phone. I've deleted some of the icons from the apk (stat_notify_power_saver.png, notification_checkbox_off.png, & notification_checkbox_on.png), and the power saver thing goes away, but you can still see stats if you wish. Only drawback I've noticed so far is that battery stats will occasionally fc when open.

this worked for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048749

Yes I forgot to mention you won't be able to look at your power stats anymore, why you would have a reason to? I have no idea haha. IMO there is really no reason to check on power consumption rates because we all know our huge screen is the main drain. Plus if you're an avid user you usually know what processes are running

Try 1.1.8 ? Assuming it's out. Also look at removing bloatware and slowing down the processor with the oc daemon or SetCPU.
1. You can try Equalizer our Volume + from the Market
2. There is a lot of things you can do about that, but basically: dim the screen, turn off wifi, gps, bluetooth,... when you don't need them, underclock, ...
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
AGREE,
On the WIFI/GPS/BT/Screen/Phone Internet. Turn them off unless you need them for a specific activity.
The screen seems to be the biggest killer so switch it off when you can. PLEASE don't use any task killers as it'll make things worse.
yea i know not to use any task killers (learned that on my mt4g)
Sorry to hijack the thread, but does the built in task manager count as "task killer". So am I also not supposed to use that one to get rid of the running tasks?
I use Juice Deffender on my DHD and my Batterylife is x2.
But i don´t know if it is working korrekt with Sense 3.0. Now i use a mixed Rom with Sense2.1 + 3.0 and its working great.
Try the Free Version before you buy it.
Edit: The built in Task manager is o.k so you can use it without getting problems.

Just took a quick glance at Juice Defender. Don't think I'd like push email to be disabled for example. So I think I'll stick with custom roms for now to save some battery.

Yeah, I guess, but I just like the idea to receive emails like sms. One useful thing that wouldn't bother me though, seems to be that I can deactivate data connection over night
Yes thats a cool feature. From 20:00 till 06:30 my Data connection is disabled and phone is switched to silent with no vibration. With JD you can personalise everything you whant to save your Battery (Displaybrightnes, CPU, Energysaveplan when Battery is under xx%, Timeplans, witch app is allowed to use data connection).
I love it and my Batterylife awesome.

Re: Ics leak tweeks

Re: Ics leak tweeks
TO SPEED UP PHONE AND BOOST PERFORMANCE. On the new ics leak.
You must be rooted to do some of these tweeks..
1. Use titanium backup or the app of your choice to freeze or uninstall unwanted or misbehaving apps. You can find a list of apps that come preinstalled (bloatware) that is known to be safe to freeze or uninstall by searching the dev section.
2. Uninstall any and all task killers or task managers. After research I find they do more harm and slow down performance and kill battery life than they help. By freezing or uninstalling misbehaving apps in step one you don't have to worry about apps running in the background eating up your data. And besides ics has a really nice data manager built in.
3. Install apex launcher from the market. I can't explain why but using this launcher with ics instead of the stock tw launcher sped my phone up considerably and totally eliminated that little bit of lag that was in it when exiting apps and scrolling screens. Not to mention apex has a lot of freeking really cool features you can't do with the stock tw launcher. Like add another shortcut icon on the dock bar and the ability to scroll 5 dock bars full of shortcuts you can add. And the home screen allows for another whole row of icons and much much more. But best of it made my phone ALOT FREAKIN FASTER....
BATTERY DRAIN ISSUES.
I found going from gingerbread to ics was a bigger strain on my battery a way bigger strain. So far this trick has helped a lot but I'm still looking for other ways to go with this to improve it even more. So if you have any tricks up your sleeve feel free to post please. So here is what I've found so far...
I used rom manager from the market but I'm sure there are other free apps that can do this again far as I know you need to be rooted to do this...
1. Wipe battery stats. After installing any new rom or even updating an existing you should always wipe battery stats. This helped my phone tremendousley.
2. Find a app that monitors your battery stats. I use badass battery monitory. I don't like the name but it will tell you which apps are draining your battery and allow you to make necasarry changes. There is a free version on the market but I'm using the paid one.
I posted this info I've learned to maybe help someone else. It helped my phone a bunch but each phone is different and what works for one may not for another so I make no guarantees. For info on rooting see the link at the beginning of this thread it worked for me. Anyone that has learned other tweaks please post. And if this is in the wrong section I'm sorry. I just started using the app and not my pc to access xda and I'm trying to figure the app out still which is laid out weird and the search option just plain sux...

Which current ROM / Kernel combo gives you the MOST battery life?

If you're going to include statistics, PLEASE also try to include your SCREEN ON TIME, BRIGHTNESS, general use, wifi and lte would be good too.
I'm currently on CleanROM 3.0 and love it but thinking of switching to Lite version. worth it for battery savings? halp?
"BEST OF" Threads are not allowed on XDA. It sucks, I know. Because it'd be nice if there could be a place for some discussion... a "this rom is nice but that rom has better battery life" kind of thing
CleanROM is a good ROM, and Scott is an active developer here in the forums. Not sure how much better battery life you'll get from the lite version. I would imagine it'd be a lot because bloatware never helps battery life.

i'm confused, i'm not allowed to ask people for recommendations on what ROM has given them these supposed 5-hours screen-on times? I get 2-3 hours and my brightness is at 20% with wifi on on cleanrom 3.0 and im worried I have a defective battery. what's wrong with this question?
Unfortunately XDA Rules don't allow us to say what is the "best" in a specific area. You can ask for what ROM people are running and what screen on time they are getting so that you can determine it yourself.
Even though I'm all for following the rules I'm kinda confused why this rule was ever passed. In the real world there are always "best" of things. It seems this is just an ego protecting type of rule. However it would cause people to fight and say "No I have the best" and etc. People can't handle freedom!

I slightly want to kill you, mostly out of jealousy but also for not mentioning your brightness level, LTE on/unavailable, SYNC on/off, usage etc.
But this is enough to make me flash lite tonight after a total discharge. i'm at 44% with 1 hour 30 minutes screen on time. 10 hours 30 mins normal time at 2/10 brightness. (one notch above lowest setting)
is it possible i have a defective battery? or is Lite really that much different?
What's the procedure for switching from Standard to Lite? Backup all apps with titanium, flash dalvik and data cache, install via clockworkmod, then perform a battery calibration?

It is possible on CleanRom, I have so many other apps running at the moment that I get no where near that anymore. When you look at what he is running in his screenshots besides the screen he hasnt used much else (3% talk time for example). Now I switched between all three of the cleanRoms through the earlier development and did not notice a huge drop from DE to Lite. I went back to DE because I like it stripped of sense and their is still the debloating. I use FB and twitter so I wasnt going to stay on Lite for long.
I get roughly 8-9 hours a day on 25% brightness 3hrs of screentime but as I said I generally have a lot of other apps running that drain my battery that you may not run. (WiFi on most of the time and in an LTE area). My main drain comes from commuting to work in NYC when the service keeps dropping, which i read drains your battery quicker and it def appears this way. pansi (text messaging app) tends to use a fair amount of cpu power which helps drain my battery as does Defender II (a game).
Personally unless you are going to flash the lite version it wont make that big of a difference, it will depend more on what apps/screen brightness you are going to use.

Your correct,I don't set my screen brightness it's auto,I also don't use social apps like Facebook, etc. I do quite a bit of browsing and flashing. I've made some backups and flashed some mods and some of the apps I use don't even show up, why they don't I have no clue. I don't play mobile games though, which probably take up a lot of usage. I've had so many phones and roms over the years tell a lite ROM fits my agenda. It's still to each own. Just know I'm not just sitting and looking at my screen for over 5 hour of use lol. I'm also in and have LTE which shows in screenshots.

I found the cleanroms have really great battery life. I gave up Samsung skyrocket because of the poor battery life but with this phone and with that rom in particular I was very impressed. With a full charge I can last all day with a good amount of use (phone calls, texts, auto syncing, and email) and still have 40% or so at days end.

Have you tried any of the other settings (performance/battery, batterysaver)? I'm currently using cleanrom DE, but I'm a little underwhelmed by the battery life. It could be that I wiped everything and spotify/chrome/redditnews is downloading everything fresh (they have been using quite a bit of data). I guess my usage these past two days have been a little out of the ordinary.
I'm very interested with sick sense though. The battery carrot is very enticing. I'm a bit worried about the journaling though. Will it make it difficult if I want to switch back to another rom?

I haven't tried the other profiles yet. I wanted to start off with this profile to see what this rom can really offer under the highest settings. Based on what others have said about the other profiles, the battery saver profile is where it's at if you want maximum battery life out of your phone. As far as flashing other roms and journaling, I don't have any experience doing that because this is my first rom. Also, I don't know if the disabled journaling on this rom impacts flashing other roms and am curious to know as well. Anybody knows if the disabled journaling will keep me from switching roms? I am new to this stuff so bear with me here....

Well, in lieu of other responses, what have you found with your current settings? Everything about the same? I have mean, thats pretty good for high performance setting and heavy use, yes?

JB vs ICS battery life

Is it just me, or do the JB ROMs, custom, official, just rooted, etc, get less battery life than the ICS counterparts?
I first had a HOX back in July/August, and used only ICS ROMs. So I have a pretty good deal of experience with it, got about 5.5-6 hours of screen on time every single time.
Now, I noticed a drop in battery life on JB when I had an S3, and just hated the drain. I thought maybe it was just ROM related, and moved onto an iPhone.
Now back onto another One X, and it seems like I still get less battery life than when I had ICS, and I use it the same way.
Has anyone else noticed it?

I dunno, I got 6 hours onscreen last night. Just gotta tune it right. And make maps hibernate. That was eating half the battery.
Sent from my HTC One XL
Your battery is probably depreciating and loosing its full capacity.
Probably not JUST you, but from what I've read and experienced you're in the minority. My battery is definitely better on JB.
I've had much better life on JB, at least since I updated the whole phone (not just a JB rom). I can go almost two days without a full charge.
Hmmm, I'll try a different ROM then. And a JB radio.

I ran the 2.20 ruu then flashed the 3.18 ota. Once on that base, I've been super stable with CleanROM and Elemental kernel.
My work phone (my HOX) is running completely stock (has to, effing government policies...) and has had terrible battery life since updating to JB. It seems to mostly be due to maps sucking me dry, which I presume is from Google Now. Maps is constantly waking my device and using whatever data connection it can get, which is why i presume the Now stuff. not sure, seems to be fine when i turn off WiFi, so it seems that the wifi use on google now is problematic. I factory reset the device but seems to still be running the same. I've been losing almost 10% battery an hour when I leave my wifi on with barely any use of the phone . this was never the case when the phone was on ICS. it's clearly some sort of data connection as it relates to Maps usage as i've been seeing high CPU usage by the app and, at times, nearly 50% of my battery life going to the maps process.
Also, just noticed on BBS that the android OS and maps high battery usage may be due to alarm manager...I'm seeing many long awake times for a number of apps. hadn't noticed it as much before because i had booted the device multiple times today. any thoughts here? i know what this app is for and there's lots of info and complaints out there about this process on other phones in the past, but not much for stock JB on the HOX...
I have had TERRIBLE battery life while running Sense JB ROMs, (seriously, incredibly bad), versus ICS ROMs. Tried nearly every Sense JB ROM that's out there and countless different radios. No idea why I'm having this problem. I'm not having problems with wakelocks BTW
It's maps. I don't have Google now and maps still ate half my battery on JB. Only way to get around it is make maps hibernate I've found, but this requires rooting.

Try Greenify. You need root, but it allows you to stop apps from running in the background. It's not a task killer, which are worse than nothing because they run constantly shutting down apps that keep restarting; rather, it uses system settings to prevent them from starting background at all. You can use it on stuff like Maps if you use another app to convert them to user apps. I've been using it a couple of weeks, and it's worked just great.

Thanks. It definitely seems like Maps is the problem for me. BBS shows a number of maps-based apps with long wake times. I charged up to about 95% before bed last night, and am going to let it run down all the way today to see what happens. Will post some screenshots later, if anyone cares.
EDIT: Nevermind, will probably post this in the BBS thread, unless anyone here really wants it.

Same. 2.5 hrs of screen time vs 3.5 for ICS. Same usage.
Viper JB vs Cleanrom ICS.
Stock everything else (radio, kernal)
maybe not necessarily maps like originally thought, though it's one of the culprits. the mediascanner just happens to hit maps a lot, likely due to it's typically-large cache. check this thread, particularly post #42 and the Google response another 10 posts or so later. sounds like there is definitely an issue with the device indexing and it's the same thing that affected a number android devices. my guess is that some people just dont have a lot of media files (or wipe their phones often enough that they dont accumulate much) and dont see as much of the effect.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37199
there's also a link at the end of that thread to another similar thread, found here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40370#58
i guess we really need to get that 4.2 source. also looks like someone built a sort of patch into CM10 on teh SGS3, but i dont know those forums well so i can't corroborate this. wow, i just ****ing said corroborate, time to go to bed.

yeah, i'm back on this boat as well. maps still has a long wake time i'm seeing location scanner services running so i'm thinking it's a location-based thing. going to let my phone die today so i can get a good BBS log since i screwed that up yesterday. i'm noticing odd dips in battery life whenever the phone wakes up. it seems to stay awake for up to 10-20 mins, but with the screen off. really weird thing is that when i let it sit overnight, there's no spike (just greater than usual battery drain) but it's when the phone first wakes up that it seems to be really draining and staying awake.

[ROM][MB1][5/28] ZERO v1.2

Completely developed on the device for the device. Not one computer was used.
IF YOUR BATTERY LIFE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO YOU IN THE WORLD THIS MAY NOT BE FOR YOU!
Battery life hasn't been thoroughly tested and not expected to be great.
Welcome to ROM ZERO.
ZERO was developed for one purpose. SPEED! You will open apps, download, install apps, and browse the web faster than before. This rom is based on USABILITY SPEED and may not show in benchmarks. It's two totally different things. Battery life is not expected to be great but hasn't been tested so please Don't complain about your battery life. I would like some feedback on the battery life but as I said, don't expect much.
This is a stock rom lightly debloated with a few nice tweaks. I have added my yamato performance edition tweaks and some scripting in the frame buffer to help speed things up. This will give you higher frame rates in games and overall speed. Lean kernel is preloaded and completely over clocked including the GPU out of the box. There is no need to lkconfig. The GPU governor is also automatically set to performance mode. There are alot of adjustments made to this rom for speed. It's FAST.
SO WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?
De-odexed system with ODEXED apps.
Lightly debloated.
Black & white toggles.
Black status bar.
4.2 keyboard.
Menu to kill.
Holo & stock TW launchers.
Adjusted Bluetooth for quicker connections
Complete rewrite of the build.prop and included all of my HWUI settings for speed and a better visual experience.
Frame buffer speed adjustments.
Full HW rendering.
GPU over-clocked.

I'm going to guess I got a bit carried away with de-bloating. I will check it out. It's something I just never used but I will make it work. Sorry bout that!
Ok I just checked out native tethering but couldn't find any problems. What kind of issue are you having with it?
Not having any luck downloading through the link in the op. Keep getting a downloading error. Is the file hosted anywhere else by chance?? Thanks!

I just posted a dropbox link in the op. See if that works better for you. The original link is working fine for me though.
I can start the hotspot from the status bar on top, but when I connect to my phone, get either a Limited Connectivity error or no connection at all. I can take some screenshots when I get home if that would help, maybe the app has an error log that I can find.
Just flashed, had no issues. Everything seems nice and smooth. Its also visually very smooth. Coming from clean ROM I would say as far as "speed" at least opening apps and such Clean ROM is faster, but Zero is very fluid. No issues with lag. I havent tested much else. So far so good though. Nice work and thanks! Its been kind of quiet on the forums since the S4 came out.
Unfortunately I found an issue this morning with some of the scripts loading. This rom is currently not running as I intended it as far as speed. The update tonight will be a huge difference in performance! Sorry about the bug.
Version 1.2 released.
Fixed scripting.
This will be a noticeable improvement!
Thanks for your patience.
I would love to know what battery life you guys get with this.
Downloading now. I have a gorilla gadgets battery 4500mah idk if that'll be much help tho.

Crap thats a big battery. How much time do you usually get out of that?
Nice! Could you possibly remove Backup Assistant from settings? Always bothers me.
EDIT: Also, it's not allowing the setup wizard to complete. This is the only way to get my apps to auto-restore so could you look into it?

Well it's obviously easy enough to remove the app itself but removing the tab from the settings menu isn't something I have ever dove into yet. For me it's a bit complicated and over my head right now. I'm going to have to read up on setting tabs and learn a bit more about it. Probably in version 5.0 lol.
Edit @Your edit..
Darn another flaw! Ugghhh! Yes I will.
