[Q] Want the new stock ics ROM but have old Hboot. Any good alternatives? - HTC Desire S

So, I'm using Fallout 5.0 and it's ok, but I have a gapps.google.com error all the time and it's not working well at times. I wanted to go back to the stock ROM and just enjoy it until I buy a newer phone. But I saw that to get the stock ics ROM you have to update the HBOOT to keep root access. I really am scared to do that as it seems to really do nasty things if I screw up.
So I'm trying to find the best ROM that is closest to the stock ICS ROM that was realeased. What are my choices?

But you will have to upgrade your hboot first.

Yep but anyway, why staying on the outdated revolutionary hboot when most roms actually require hboot 2.00 2002 or 7.00.1002/2002 ?
And 6.98... is write protected.

Most Roms?! No. Ice cream saga, miui v4, stock ics. Only those Roms require a newer hboot. All other Roms ignore the separate /system/lib partition.

if you mean any custom roms that are based of the tmous stock rom? then not yet.
if you have a custom rom on and need to flash to original you can always do a nandroid restore of that rom
if you need the RUU for whatever reason get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559 the latest tmous is the 8th one down
going back to stock myself just can't handle random reboots and poor data connections

what rom did you flash that this occured?
i havent flashed any roms yet since im waiting to see if there is one created based on the sensation4g stock rom. plus the stock with no bloat has been wonderful for me so far.
i'm gonna wait another week as the devs should have their roms/kernels updated a few times with bug fixes then im gonna try and flash then.
best bet is to ruu back to stock with the link posted above. gives you stock tmo rom with the original bootloader only s-off. from there you can root and run stock rooted and debloat yourself.
I'm about to get the sensation. Is the stock rom pretty good with a simple debloat?

[Q] Official HTC ICS upgrade??

OK I have a Sensation onto which I have installed various ROM's including some of the more recent ICS versions. So far the ICS versions have been far from perfect so I'd be very interested in the new official HTC ICS when it gets released by HTC.
Does the fact that I've already installed various after market ROMs limit my ability to access this new official release when it comes? Do I need to do anything to allow me to receive such an official upgrade from HTC? Do I need to go and dig up the backups I'm sure I made prior to removing the official stock ROM?
Any help gratefully received
Regards

To recieve official upgrades you will have to return your device to stock however, when the official upgrade get's pushed, within hours the devs will have produced original and modified stock roms which you will be able to flash just like roms that you have already flashed so i wouldn't worry.
In the dev forum, there is several roms based on the latest 3.32.401.5 ics release which could be the official release candidate or, at worst, is very close to it.
Perhaps you should try flashing one of these.
From my experience you need to go back to completely stock just like it was when you bought it. Which means stock rom s-on your cid back to whatever it was and stock recovery. Hope this helps
To receive official upgrades I believe you must un root your device and have the stock from installed on to it

I may be wrong, but i'm not sure that s-on is necessary.
If you choose to go back to s-on, be very careful, several people (including myself ) have bricked their devices doing this. Follow the instructions to the letter. You have been warned.

Yep. For this you need to run ruu (you will retain s-off), and this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300

Alternatively you could install Android Revolution HD custom ROM, which uses the official HTC ICS ROM as the base, just with several tweaks and improvements. There'll be no looking back once you do!

An unlocked bootloader grants ability to write on almost all partitions but the radio, so it's possible to have a custom ROM.
I use this one on my own phone, so I'm sure it works.

The Rhyme doesn't have an official ICS ROM for now, so I'm working on a port of the One V's ROM, but it's not ready yet.

Hi Aurore
I have installed your Aurore-Rhyme-ICS-1.0 ROM but the Wifi isn't working. Don't know if they are a link but here is the event's order :
- The Rhyme was already updated with the RUU_Bliss_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_2.14.401.2
- Today i have root the Rhyme
- Then i installed the chinese bliss_signed_7 ROM -> i had problems with stability
- (Wipe all) Then i install your ICS ROM. It works nicely but no Wifi working (error message)
You talked about radio problem. Can you give me some advices !
Thank you in advance and for ur work

So i have Android Version 4.1.1 Sense 4+ Hboot: 2.14 Kernel : 3.4.10 Buildnumber 3.17.707.
I've been wanting to try all the different wonderful ROMS but i cant seem to find much for the 4.1.1 version
So my question is there a way to upgrade to 4.1.2? cuz most of the ROMS are based one that!
I am currently Running Viper XL3.1 as amazing as it is i want to try more !

only the AOSP roms are based on 4.1.2.. Sense is only 4.1.1, and since you are on the latest firmware, you will only be able to run the sense 4.1.1 roms

Is it time to repeat the general rule that YOU SHOULD NOT TAKE OTA UPDATES IF YOU CARE ABOUT ROOTING AND UNLOCKING?!
Honestly, people.

Well i OTA JB updated before i rooted my phone and knew of all this greatness. I didn't know it would **** over everything! DAMN THIS SUCKS.
Anyways how would i have upgraded to JB without OTA for future references(updates) ?

So you're saying you took the OTA before you knew about what rooting was? If so, than that's somewhat understandable. iElvis's statement was to the many many people here who have taken OTAs when they are already rooted, or not rooted yet, but intend to root. In that case, taking the OTA should be understood to be a no-no, at least not without the proper research before taking the OTA.
With very little exception, there is no benefit to accepting OTAs. The content of the OTAs will show up in Development (usually quite soon) in a safely flashable format. And the OTA can do a lot of harm, as you have now seen.

The stock ROM will usually show up in Development in a recovery-flashable format, pre-rooted, and devoid of any nasty hboot or other meddling. Often, these get posted within days (or even hours) of the OTA deploying. Sometimes even before the OTA (in the case of leaked RUUs).

You get a pass, but as redpoint said, many others should have known better.
When kernel source is released (soon), this problem should go away.

Oh so to update to 4.1.2 i would have to flash a Kernel, which hopefutlly comes in as quick as possible ! Thank you IElvis and redpoint
Someone should be able to fix this soon, the same thing happened on firmware 2.20 no? Just be patient. Even though being able to flash new roms all the time has kind of become too much of an addiction.

Use 4-EXT recovery and enable Smart Flash option to flash ROMS without S-OFF
Ensure u take nandroid backup, and update to 3.33 firmware before flashing.

Just do an S-OFF, it's a very easy thing to do. And will definitely make your flashoholic life much easier
I did and it took me like 10 mins to complete the whole thing.
Btw youb should try albinoman887's CyanogenMod 10.1 Jellybean 4.2.2 - KANG it's really good one. Also search for Dragunkorr ROMs on droidevs site, he's got some of the best non-sence JB ROMs with tablet mode, dpi per app, cm+aokp+other tweaks - nice stuff to play with.
Good luck
