Motorola Flip Stand Without Smart Charging Cable - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got the Universal Flip Stand from Amazon and like it flexibility. I did not realize that a special cable was required for it to put my Maxx HD in Desk Mode. I found an app that can open the Desk Mode and can use Smart Actions to initiate it, but is not fool proof, and the app does not exit when I unplug the phone.
Does anyone know where I can get a Smart Charging Cable? Is there another way to better use the stand? I was thinking of getting some NFC tags, but was not sure how easy they are to program and if they can initiate multiple things (open dock mode, set notification volume off, turn vibrate off).

Look for a program called RAZR Dock in the app store, it will launch the desk dock. Then you can set up a SmartAction that will start the all once the phone is plugged in and its night time.

Thanks. That is exactly what I did. My only issues is that the dock app does not stop once the phone is unplugged. Minor, but annoying.

[Q] App for muting on AC charge but not USB

I was wondering if any of you know of an app that can turn off notifications when I put it in the AC charger but doesn't do it when connected to USB?
I would like the phone not to notify when I'm sleeping and it's in the AC charger
but when I have it in the computer or my car I want to have the sound on.

Nice, that's just the app I was looking for, but sadly Android 4.0.4 doesn't support different ringer and notification volumes
Don't know why Google decided to change that, but it sucks..

Hyperion Dock

Got mine off amazon. Does not activate dock mode.
Is it defective?

No I think it is the way it was designed. Doesn't use the pins on the back and you have a microusb nub that sticks up for you to connect to.

Well...It doesn't necessarily have to use the pogo pins to activate dock mode. For example the official car dock will launch the Car application when the phone is docked even though it uses usb. It's all in how the connector is pinned out.
Having two of these I can say neither activate dock mode.

I'm sure you could get an nfc tag, stick it to the dock and have the phone launch the dock mode when it detects the tag. Of course, this solution leaves the phone in dock mode when you undock it and I'm not sure what happens if you just kinda leave the phone sitting on top of the tag like that and try to do other stuff.
If the tag is too low for the phone to detect I'm sure you could jury rig something to raise the tag closer to the center of the phone.
H4x the cable or order one already modded. I just ordered two cables. 1 for car and 1 for night stand.

Install "any cut" from the play store, open it and pick new shortcut. The find HTC Dock mode and select that. Now at least you have a icon on your home screen to get into dock mode even though your dock doesn't automatically trip it.

Does the dock mode turn off the soft key lights? That's my issue right now because using my phone as an alarm clock at night, the dang soft key buttons are way too bright!

[Q] app launches when docked

Hey there Note'able people
I made my own small dockstation with a HDMI connector underneath. This means that when it's said, the Note is connected with HDMI.
However, when set, the tablet suddenly runs 'Infinite Painter'.... which i don't want ofcourse...
I had the same problem with tuneIn Radio, which i uninstalled for that reason.
Is there a place where i can see which app gets a go when my tablet docks?
I thought about Tasker, but i want my tablet to do nothing when i place it in the dock, not run some action...
Get invisible dock from Google play.

Available docks for Nexus 5 that triggers dock mode

What is the difference between docked and charging? I know DayDream supports differentiating between this two, and so does Tasker.
Is there a special "charger" that will trigger this "dock" for Nexus 5?
Dock is when you dock the phone in a dock. Charging is when you charge the phone via wireless or usb cable. Clues in the name really

I guess I should rephrase my question:
So what are the available docks that can work with Nexus 5?
Errr the ones that come up in the Google search "nexus 5 docks"
Have a look In the accessories forum, there may be some comparisons there or something. Why do you want a dock?

I did google search, just trying to understand the technical side. For example this:
http://www.kidigi.com/product_lv2.php?pid=1508
Is this considered a dock? or just charging?
I want a dock so that I can set up tasker profile for different cases, just like day dream, to show when is docked, but not show when its charging.

i tried a couple of different car docks that triggered dock mode on other phones such as s3, gnex, & htc one but they didnt do anything other than charge the n5.
i'm not sure if the n5 supports dock mode triggered via usb
I don't think the Nexus 5 has a dock mode at all. Your best bet would be to buy any dock, even a charging dock, and get put an NFC sticker on it...

I bought the "dock" that you link to. It is advertised as a docking station but when I got it it clearly says "charging cradle". I paid $25 for an $8 desktop charger. I already had a "cradle charger" at work. When I plug in my phone at work it just displays the desktop, which is what I want. My plan was to have a bedside "dock" with "daydream" enabled, with a very dim night time alarm clock. In "settings", "display", "daydream" I wanted to set "when to daydream" to "while docked". This is the big advantage of having an actual "docking charger" besides just a "charger".
You hare HELP personified lol.
About OP, I know from other phones that some configuration in the microUSB pins trigger the dock mode as well as car mode, but first of all the OS has to have it implemented. Some HTC, by example my old HTC one S, have a car mode which is triggered by both official car cradle and a special homemade microUSB with pins differently mapped.
About docks, only ones I know are philips fidelio, great options
I don't believe the Nexus 5 supports a "dock" mode at all. I've tried using a car mount(iBolt) that is built with the pin connection to trigger dock mode that worked with a HTC Evo LTE but with the Nexus it's just a charger. Had to re-write some of my Tasker profiles to get things working correctly again.
So the dock is actually triggered by something in the usb pins.
Pardon my noobness because I have never had a phone that I can trigger the "dock" mode before.
Recently I read about this:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/create-your-own-magnetic-dock-for-the-google-nexus-5/
So at first I thought there's something about the hidden magnets that triggers the dock mode, but couldn't find more information about it. Seems like now its just to hold the phone in place and don't do anything.
So I assume the Philips Fidelio also should not trigger this?

Only the nexus 7 has dock pins and can use this feature.

I've been reading about this a bit and it looks like the OS probably still has "dock support", but out of the box the phone has no way to trigger it.
Supposedly if you run
Code:
am broadcast -a android.intent.action.DOCK_EVENT --ei android.intent.extra.DOCK_STATE 2
from the terminal (or `adb shell`) you'll make the phone think it's hooked up to a car dock. (I think state "0" is no dock, and "1" is desk dock)
I plan to play with it today. If it works, it should be possible to automate it or make a home-screen shortcut with Script Manager or similar. I guess you could probably also trigger it from an NFC tag? Not sure how those work, still reading.

That would be great if this works via NFC. I bought my wife a Nex5 to replace her old (Don't laugh) Droid3, but the dock for that gave her a nice alarm clock when docked. I've kluged in similar functionality via tasker, a NFC tag on the Tylt Vu, and settings in the clock app, but it would be great to do this in a more "native" fashion.

I tried the command I pasted earlier and got a permissions error -- looks like that method requires root. Once you have root, though, you could run it via an automation app and it sounds like it would work fine. It might also be that the Tasker task you set up is using the same actual process (sending that system message) under the hood.

Yeah this is what I thought. Have Day Dream comes up with Clock only when Docked, not Charging. Seems it doesn't work.

I installed "Dock Clock (night clock) instead of using the daydream, and had it launch with NFC. But since it's on for hours, I figured charging while it was running would be a necessity.

[Q] Docking Station.

Is there a docking station that exists compatible with the Note 4? Basically il looking to plug in USB keyboard & mouse, and project the image onto a computer monitor via HDMI.

I saw a YouTube video of it plugged into the Note 4. I wasn't too impressed. Basically, the image on the screen was in the shape of the smartphone and not resized to fit the screen like my old setup would do (DROID RAZR MAXX/HD STATION). If I do get the Smart Dock, is there a setting that will fit the monitor size in full screen? Will I have Keyboard/Mouse functionality? Would like to hear from someone that actually uses the Smart Dock and knows first-hand.
Yep, I use nova to set the screen to lock onto oreintation and yes keyboards work ill see tomorrow if i can get some screenshots of me using it
App called set orientation is what I use
I went ahead and ordered one off of Amazon. Thanks, everyone. My PC motherboard just died so I'm going to try and live off of this for a little while until I can build another PC. It was time, 7 years old.
EDIT: I was first having problems seeing my mouse pointer. After plugging and unplugging, then replugging it in, it works. I'm using a Logitech Unifying Device to plug in a K800 keyboard and a mouse (I forgot the model of the mouse I have).

For any one has a problem to type special characters using an external keyboard, this is the solution : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelper&hl=it
For some reason, my dock only worked once. Now, my keyboard and mouse keep connecting and disconnecting. How can can I fix this? Also, my car app (Carhome Ultra) wanted to open when I just wanted my phone to just mirror the launcher. I also no longer have full screen. Could I have a faulty dock? Should I FDR my phone?

If you use wired mouse, screen should automatically change orientation from portrait to landscape once mouse is plugged in (with monitor attached to smart dock).

I really don't understand this, but after unplugging/replugging in, AGAIN, it worked. In fact, I'm on it, now.
The only thing I'm a bit unhappy with is the resolution. The letters look HUGE. Is there a way to change the resolution? I can't seem to find it.
