RAZR HD Fido vs Rogers - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here's the deal... my mom got the RAZR HD from Fido and I got mine from Rogers. I have found no difference other than the lack of carrier bloat on the Fido version. I checked her About Phone info and compared to mine and everything seems identical (might've missed something). Would there be a way to install Fido's firmware instead of Rogers? I mean since they're gonna get a bloatless JB OTA wouldn't it be simpler than having to re-freeze all that junk?
If you have any idea on how to pull this off, I'm open to trying!

Well i wouldn't recommend you to get FIDO firmware on Rogers. Reason is that it might not get updated when rogers will release jelly bean in this month.
Interesting : I have rogers razr HD and bought another Fido razr HD for my wife from kijiji. I was playing with Fido phone and i popped in Rogers sim in it. The phone got rebooted and voila.. it had Rogers firmware on it with all the bloatware.

That's really odd... damn rogers and their bloat lol guess I'll have to freeze it, thanks for the reply!
I got my RAZR off kijiji and popped in my rogers sim and its a rogers device(dunno if sim did it or not cuz it was the device's first run), there's gotta be a way to prevent this though

I bought a Fido RAZR HD and when I turned it on the first time everything showed Rogers firmware but no Rogers bloat. Then I popped my Rogers Sim into the phone, the phone did a factory reset and the Rogers bloat came, but it was all stuff you can disable, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

What kind of AT&T SIM card are you using? Maybe you can tell its the first 8 digits or so? A few people in a different thread are reporting they can't use AT&T SIM cards in their Rogers RAZR HD.

I bought a Rogers RAZR HD A.D. as soon as my FIDO Sim went in it automatically switched to a FIDO phone. (FIDO boot and I didn't have to unlock the phone)

There is a warning message when you start the RAZR HD with the neutral Rogers firmware. It says that it'll wipe your phone based on some SIM setting. If you choose to proceed, you get either Rogers or Fido branded firmware. I've reflashed the stock ROM a few times so its tested.

Here is a screenshot of what I'm talking about. Do not proceed if you want a bloat-free phone. It'll brand your phone based on your SIM (only if Rogers/Fido).

What happens if you cancel... you stay bloat-free? And does it ask every time you boot up the phone?

Hey,
But if you wipe and reflash the stock ROM, then it resets this setting right?
Thanks,
Su

If you reflash the Rogers ROM, you're back to being unbranded. If you proceed, you reboot into recovery and it flashes the branded stuff onto your phone. I think it only asked me on the first few startup. Might have stopped after I performed a normal reboot.

[Q] Can I flash a Canadian FIDO model to European firmware?

Hey,
Can I flash a Canadian Fido model with the French SFR ROM? It's not a US Droid, so I'm assuming the bootloader is unlocked?
It looks like the Euro model is getting quicker firmware upgrades (they got JB late November, whilst the Canadian model is pending for Q1 2013), so I would prefer to be on that ROM!
Cheers,
Su

Your bootloader is locked, but can be unlocked. I wouldn't recommend going to European firmware though since I've been seeing a lot LTE issues when users switch off of the Rogers ROM. What's another month (or 2-3 weeks) anyways? You might end up spending a lot of time getting your phone to function just how it did on the Rogers firmware.

Hey,
I'm actually based in the UK, but thinking of picking up a Fido RAZR HD because they are much cheaper over there!
We have only one LTE network at the moment, and I'm not on it I'd prefer to have JB and HSPA+ if possible!
I've just come across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35085808
Looks like the Australian ROM is using the new(er) version of JB?!
Thanks,
Su
JB "should" be out at the end of January for our phone claims Rogers. I would at least wait till Feb 1St b4 tinkering

I flashed the Fido Razr HD using an Australian JellyBean sbf with the Rogers modem_signed and fsg_signed files from ICS. Works a beaut, not sure which rom you would use the files for to get it working in the UK though. The Australian rom had minimal bloat and I didn't feel like waiting a month for Rogers/Fido to release JB.
Does the Rogers/Fido ROM have a lot of crapware in it?
Not too much... Nothing compared to Verizon! I saw like 7 or 8 bloatware applications when I first got my phone and was able to disable all of the apps I.don't use. Heck, they didn't even pre-load an ebook software!

Hey I just rooted my fido razr hd and I am wondering where you got those specific files and how you used them when flashing the Australian sbf.
Do you know if you can revert to the fido rom if you ever wanted?
Thanks in advance

I got them from the Fido/Rogers ICS rom. I opened the JellyBean rom with 7-zip and dragged and dropped the files along with an xml file found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054906
I missed a step when doing it and missed putting the fsg file in there and was without LTE, I was then able to use a fastboot script to flash it after. I have attached the script and fsg file. The modem file can be found in the referenced thread. You also need to have an unlocked bootloader.
I'm fairly certain we are able to SBF to the Rogers/Fido JB when it comes out safely. I would not SBF to a prior firmware like ICS myself....and why would you want to?

Thanks alot for this did you unlock the bootloader with the official motorola site? I don't like the idea of losing all warranty even though the phone seems to be built very nice

I have the fido one,
crapware, honestly about 4 apps, just like myaccount, vvm, ringtones and shop.
But when they sold me my phone it was apparently a Fido/Rogers verison, and i had to return the phone, then i got my new one i never hit SIM CONFIGURATION when it booted and now my rom is completely stock from factory, no crapware whatsoever! not even a fido boot screen.

If I ever had a defect; I would return it to Fido anyways...they have no idea if it's been unlocked nor would they care to check.
Just a little warning for you ...
if you use a rogers/fido on UK :
you can flash any firmware with any radio file ... but YOU NEVER GET LTE ( NOT SAME BAND IT S HARDWARE NOT SOFTWARE )... and Rogers/Fido phone don't have dual carrier chip (42mbits)... only hspa+ chip (21 mbits)
if i have the choice i prefer pay 50 $ more to get lte or dc hspa ...

Hmm, well I assumed there would be physical hardware differences, but got different info from another thread:
EdwardN said:
Not exactly true. The XT925 firmware is what determines which radios are active. Having 700/800/1700/1800/2100/2600 all active at the same time would drain the battery like woah. Currently you can merge the radio you need into the rom you want to use, and make it work that way.

The DC-HSPA point is a good one though, thanks for the heads up so you're saying the Euro/LatAm model does support it?

[Q] Rogers/Fido software help

Sorry if somebody's covered this but I am on Rogers Canada and ordered a razr hd lte, but it shipped with Fido software. I had an old koodo phone that I reflashed once and it booted up with Telus software, and did not work on the network, but after finding a hidden code for it I was able to select Koodo, and it rebooted with Koodo software and worked fine. I was wondering if this phone has an option like that and if anybody knows what it is. I was assuming there might be because the rogers/fido software seems to be the same.
Thanks for any help
Mine was a Rogers phone but as soon as I stuck my fido Sim in it switched to Rogers

Factory reset the phone then reboot. When you're setting it up you should then get the popup to setup the phone based on your SIM

Well your posting the verizon section, not att. So if you flashed a rom from this section, you have the wrong radio. Flashing a wrong radio or baseband would not allow you to connect to the data network.

It does not sound like its unlocked.
Who got you the unlock code?
Even though its a verizon phone, your not having issues with the phone, your issue is with the service. I am no longer on att, so I dont know what rom or baseband you should use. I would assume any rom of your choice, but the latest official baseband. As for kernel, I am using kt747.

What store??? Att and verzion wont unlock a phone. If you know someone with a verzion sim, put that sim in and see if you have data.

Well it was mt friend who works in an ATT store
Sent from my SCH-I535
Put in a verzion sim and see what happens. If you get service, try flashing a rom from att, with an att baseband. Then put in your att sim. If it works, it was the baseband, if not, its not unlocked.

T-mobile to work on ATT

Hi,
I spent last night getting my t-mobile galaxy s4 to work on ATT. I did a lot of research on the subject and it wasn't that difficult at all. I bought the phone off of EBAY.
I was able to accomplish this from all of the tools here and a little research. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335109
The first thing i did was root the phone and install CWM. I then used the sim unlock found in the link above. The next step i took (because i like custom roms on my phone) was to install TASK650's AOKP rom. I flashed the rom and followed his instructions.
After the restart, I went through the welcome screen and shut the phone down. I put my sim in and started the phone. I noticed i was getting the H, but no LTE. This led me to more research. The fix was easy once I found it. The APN needs to be pointed to the ATT phone option. It defaults to wap.cingular. After about 5 minutes and a reboot the LTE appeared and after the speed tests confirmed.
This is not a guide. I am just sharing my experience. If you do this please do your own research as you can do damage to your phone. There are risks involved, flash and modify your phone at your own risk.
Just wondering, why did you get a tmobile s4 to use with att? Normally the att version can be found for cheaper price
Sent from my GT-I9505
I am confused here, what is it you were trying to accomplish? running a att rom on your tmo device? Because you say you have a tmo phone.
Why go thru all that, when this rom is already setup to work on tmo with the tmo apn settings already setup for you.
[ROM] Task650 AOKP (Jellybean 4.2.2)(6.26.2013)
Do you new people just go and see a rom you like, in any forum, and do not look in your devices forum and flash it? if so, your are asking to brick your phones.
