Hi,
I spent last night getting my t-mobile galaxy s4 to work on ATT. I did a lot of research on the subject and it wasn't that difficult at all. I bought the phone off of EBAY.
I was able to accomplish this from all of the tools here and a little research. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335109
The first thing i did was root the phone and install CWM. I then used the sim unlock found in the link above. The next step i took (because i like custom roms on my phone) was to install TASK650's AOKP rom. I flashed the rom and followed his instructions.
After the restart, I went through the welcome screen and shut the phone down. I put my sim in and started the phone. I noticed i was getting the H, but no LTE. This led me to more research. The fix was easy once I found it. The APN needs to be pointed to the ATT phone option. It defaults to wap.cingular. After about 5 minutes and a reboot the LTE appeared and after the speed tests confirmed.
This is not a guide. I am just sharing my experience. If you do this please do your own research as you can do damage to your phone. There are risks involved, flash and modify your phone at your own risk.
Just wondering, why did you get a tmobile s4 to use with att? Normally the att version can be found for cheaper price

I am confused here, what is it you were trying to accomplish? running a att rom on your tmo device? Because you say you have a tmo phone.
Why go thru all that, when this rom is already setup to work on tmo with the tmo apn settings already setup for you.
[ROM] Task650 AOKP (Jellybean 4.2.2)(6.26.2013)
Do you new people just go and see a rom you like, in any forum, and do not look in your devices forum and flash it? if so, your are asking to brick your phones.

If you want an unlocked bootloader, can't you just install the custom recovery?

The flames are most definitely on the way haha. And yes, no 'free' my unlock method. You can buy a code though or try to get one through ATT.

I just called AT&T and said I got it off someone on craigslist, I'm using T-Mobile. They asked for the IMEI and BAM, unlock code.
Also a plus I can get 4G signal.

My SR is unlocked
My wife has taken her SR home to Thailand a few times. She buys a SIM and one month data plan, puts the SIM in her SR and it's fully functional; data, text, voice. It's rooted, custom ROM, but never used an unlock code on it.

that's not for sim or carrier unlocking, that's for bootloader
if you use a different rom like cm10 you can use sim, or maybe in stock you can still use a different sim aswell
iv used a att sim and it works, did you switch your phone to GSM or GLOBAL mode

Leak #4 was just released, but there are lots of custom ROMs built on it. It is your personal decision what you want to run on your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1672
Read up in this forum if you are looking for ROMs. If you don't know what your doing, read the guides at the top and start learning.
i would suggest http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832070 CleanROM v5, its not up to the latest leak i beleve but it keeps the touchwiz feel and you really loses no functionality. and yes it has gsm and global mode. i can confirm that because i time to time use a at&t sim card
Stupid question, but is VZW's SGS3 carrier locked requiring an unlock code from VZW? Or if the phone is running a global ready ROM, can I simply put in another (GSM) carrier's SIM card?
Thanks!
Ok so this is my 3rd attempt at making a thread that concerns my issue... OK so I have a rooted/unlocked verizon galaxy s III and I have an ATT Sim card in it but I can't recieve data. Well your posting the verizon section, not att. So if you flashed a rom from this section, you have the wrong radio. Flashing a wrong radio or baseband would not allow you to connect to the data network.

I posted this in the att and was told to post it in verizon cause its a verizon phone... can you help me find the right Rom, kernel, and os that are all compatible?? Please..?

It does not sound like its unlocked.
Who got you the unlock code?
Even though its a verizon phone, your not having issues with the phone, your issue is with the service. I am no longer on att, so I dont know what rom or baseband you should use. I would assume any rom of your choice, but the latest official baseband. As for kernel, I am using kt747.

What store??? Att and verzion wont unlock a phone. If you know someone with a verzion sim, put that sim in and see if you have data.

Well it was mt friend who works in an ATT store
Sent from my SCH-I535
Put in a verzion sim and see what happens. If you get service, try flashing a rom from att, with an att baseband. Then put in your att sim. If it works, it was the baseband, if not, its not unlocked.

To go back to stock you don't require Verizon sim. I am in india and using Verizon GS3 with IDEA without any issues.

Hey! So I have a Verizon Version of the Straight Talk S3. (SCH-S968C). It is identical to the Verzion version, just no LTE or Wifi Thether capabilities. It also has no sim, etc. I was wanting to test a few roms on it, and I was wondering, how to unlock the bottloader on it without bricking the phone? Any help? Thanks. :silly:
im wondering the same thing.
im in the same boat and have the same model s968c on straight talk. ive got it rooted and want to install roms but im concerned about the bootloader being locked and bricking my phone. but i made it this far so im doing pretty good lol considering ive never messed with rooting or such lol. if someone could enlighten us that would be awesome. ive been researching and reading for about two days so i could learn as much as possible about this phone model and i know straight talk is no fun trying to mess with.

From what I've been reading it seems to be that this is pretty legit, I tried it myself. Although if your on 4.3 ML1 or 4.4.2 NE1 your locked down
If you power off the device, then power it back on, you should see the words "Samsung" first. If they stay on the screen for more than 2 seconds, then it's locked down. If it flashes by almost instantly, then you're unlocked

I not positive about it being locked down with the sch-968c) because that's a verizon boot loader issue and this is a straight talk phone. I've been researching as well and from what I've learned, it can be rooted very quickly using cydia impactor and then flashing cwm recovery for roms and such. The apn settings may need some tweaking. I'm planning to do this to my friends phone this weekend and putting liquid smooth rom on it.

As far as I know any d2lte ROM will work. So far I've tried CM, PA and Pac-Man. All installed fine but they all suffer from the no APN issue which can be bypassed by using 8sms from the play store and changing the APN settings by adding Http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms. Handcent should also work.

I suggest using towelroot. Its much faster and does not require a pc to root your phone.
Yes towel root works great actually the best out of the non pc methods for this device (out of my experience anyway) the phone runs on 4.1.2 and I have no access to a pc so I'm guessing that there's not a very safe or efficient way to install custom roms...
