I can't get my computer to recognize my tablet. Installed all the latest drivers and asus sync. Tried it on windows 7 64 bit and ubuntu 12.04 32 bit. Tried running the 1-click root and that can't detect it either. Still charges fine, connects to the dock and can read from the SD card in the dock fine. But it won't connect to my computer. Has anyone else had this problem or have an idea for a solution?

Get an RMA from Asus and send it in for repair. I had to send mine in three times before the 'fix' stuck.
Um it's a little beat up... and I bought it when they first came out. Long past warranty replacement.

Turn on USB debugging. Usually helps me. Then turn on mass storage. It might take a while to connect. If that doesn't work there are a couple other things you could try.

If push comes to shove, you can always mount the SD card in recovery.

I've heard that has a tendency to corrupt files and should only be used as a last resort.
Pin it to Win it.

I can't seem to anyone else who has this problem. My TF700 is working great. However, today I decided to bite the bullet and install CleanRom. After unlocking, I realized that my computer can no longer see the tablet via USB. It is not an unrecognized device, just nothing happens when I plug it in.
I have tried two different cables on 3 computers, so I believe the problem is with the tablet itself. It charges just fine and when I plug the cable into the computer or unplug, the screen comes on (just like when you plug in the charger), so something is getting recognized.
I don't see any physical damage to the port, it looks fine.
Anyone else ever seen this?
Thanks,
Chris

It was, not sure how long ago though. I know it was when I first got it. I'm guessing it is a hardware problem, but not sure what to do about it. I honesly don't care all that much about it, but I would love to get TWRP on it so I can flash roms. I haven't seen a way to get TWRP on it without the USB or GooManager, but I can't run GooManager because I don't have root yet.
Still trying to search to see if there is a way to get root without USB, but I haven't found anything....

Chris,
See if downloading and installing PC Suite from Asus helps.
That might get the drivers working again.
Are your PCs win7?
Just a thought. I am not running clean rom but when u connect to ur pc try going to settings, storage, and and hit the 3 little dots on the top right. It should show some usb connection tab.

Thanks, I'll try the software install, but since the computer doesn't even tell me I have an urecognized device (nothing in device manager), I'm not sure that it is. I also already rolled back to stock ICS and also tried the storage settings to no avail.
I unfortunately think I have a hardware problem. I guess I'm stuck at trying to get it repaired, or just live without the USB connection....which I guess ultimately means no customizations. I can still flash back to the stock Jelly Bean using the factory bootloader and rom from the Asus site, so I may have to live with that.
Could be the cable. Sadly, replacing it is ridiculously hard.

I wish it were. I have a second charger/cable and already tried both cables on different PCs. Uggh.
Connect the tablet to a PC running Linux and run lsusb to see if the tablet is recognized (the vendor ID is 0B05) - just to sidestep any possible Windows driver issues.
So... I got a Tab 2 10.1 last week from amazon after 3 days of use the Tablet died, no power, no signal, tried charging and all troubleshooting I found through the internet in the ended decided to send it back and got a replacement Tablet from Amazon.
Yesterday I got the new one and let it charge all night, this morning I got to set it up, everything was working great until I decided it was time for me to root it and transfer some music to it. When I connected it to my pc i got an error message saying "USB Device is not recognized" error message said something like the device had malfunctioned. Funny thing is that the tablet charges perfectly, although I do know that the pins it uses to charge and data transfer are not the same.
Having hopes in my tablet and my luck decided to check if it was for some reason in USB Debugging, it was not.
*Removed Kies, and all Samsung related drivers, rebooted and reinstalled the drivers alone, nothing.
*Unistalled the drivers rebooted and installed latest kies...nothing...
*Tried using a friends cable to see if that was the issue, nothing. *
Tried cleaning the port, nothing.
*Tried both cables, mine and my friend's, on a different computer and still nothing!.
So I have ran out of options and ideas and I'm really frustrated as I can't believe I've so much bad luck as to get 2 damaged tablets in a row.
Is there anymore troubleshooting I can do before I ask for a refund? I'd really appriciate any help that you guys can provide me.

Yes, I am. Does it have to do with that?
Samsung's drivers and ODIN don't play nice with win7 x64. It works for some but not others. Use someone else's 32-bit PC, or try Heimdall Suite.

I've never had a problem with win 7 x64 with my Tab 2 10.1. What I would recommend is use a different USB port or try several different USB ports.
If that doesn't work, you likely have a bad USB port on your tab. Samsung should honor their warranty and replace it.

Hello again! So I recently picked up a Galaxy S 4g for a good deal, and now for some reason, I can't connect it to my pc. I plug it in via usb, I've tried all the USB settings, and my pc won't recognize it at all. I've searched everywhere on the web, and on these forums, and still no dice. I found another similar thread from about a year ago, and nobody really gave a concrete answer there. I've tried in debug mode also. The phone charges when it is plugged in, but that is all. I installed the Kies Mini and the drivers on my work pc (Win7 x64) and it still won't recognize my phone. At home I'm running Win8 x64, and Kies Mini won't even download the drivers, it just sticks at 0%. If anyone has any ideas as to why it won't work, or options that I can try, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, it is not rooted. The point of this is to try to root it. I've rooted many other Android phones without issue. This one's being a tricky little bugger!
Thanks in advance.
You will need to install the drivers for your phone on the pc. Also check out your usb cable some give me problems

Had a similar problem on my win7 laptop. Decided to start over on my winXP pc and Kies mini worked to install drivers.
Well I've tried multiple USB cables, and both of the ones I have work with my Windows phone so im pretty sure those aren't the issue.
I will set up a PC with XP today then and see what happens. Will post with results. Thanks in advance!

I got it to work! Here's how:
I tried installing XP on a pc that I was setting up for my grandma, and still had the same problem. Having been working on this for a few days, I got frusturated, and brought it to my Dad to have him give it a go (he's done tons of rooting/unlocking on tons of phones, and he is in the 360 modding scene) and lo and behold, he got it. It was just the USB cables I was using I guess. He hooked it up with the cable from his Kindle Fire, and it worked instantly. Looks like I just need to pick up a new cable, because all 3 of mine are ****ty >.>
Thanks for the help guys!
Make sure MTP is checked under storage -> press menu -> USB Computer connection
EDIT: sorry i didnt see you had it solved
I get the error
"Hardware Id Missing - Windows cannot identify the device plugged into the SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device. For assistance, contact the hardware manufacturer."

I tried installing KIES and the drivers again but to no avial.
Works fine on other computers, I've looked around for an answer and i cant find anything

never had any problems on win7 64 bit, try just installing the driver alone on a few USB ports and sack Kies off.

I have also had the same problem ever since I've had this device. I've called Samsung on this matter, they said they have no idea. I was also told to remove Kies, drivers and restart Windows. I have tried everything Samsung told me to do and I still have the same problem. It does not happen every time I connect to the computer, but it happens most of the time. I am using Win7 Ult 64 and Win8 MCE 64. When I get the error message, the computer does not even see the tablet. I attached a screen shot of both the tablet and my computer.
