Hi All,
My Desire S decided to die today for no apparent reason:
I had been browsing the internet before jumping in my car and switching on the bluetooth. I had been driving for about 10 mins when I got a call through on my cars bluetooth system, about 3 mins in to the call the caller disappeared even though the car said it was still connected.
I pulled over to check the phone and found it was frozen on the call screen. So I disconnected the battery and powered it up, but it could only get the the HTC splash and sound before the screen turned black and the unit became unresponsive.
A few more tries gave the same issue, so i decided to boot it into recovery to do a full wipe, this completed successfully, but the phone was still doing the same thing.
After removing the battery again the phone will now not turn on at all and does not respond to the charger (no led). I've tested another battery, but still no luck, and tried the bat from my DS in my sisters DS and it works fine.
So my phone is completely dead it seems. I should probably send it off to HTC for a repair, but the problem is that the phone is S-OFF and i have no way of getting it S-ON while it's bricked.
Can anybody suggest anything?
I'm not having much luck with HTC as my mozart is at the repair centre as we speak with a bootloader issue... I might have to choose another manufacturer in future
PS: It was S-OFF but running stock software
there is not much to say...try to remove battery and wait for a while...if issue still persist htc service is only hope

Thanks, i'll leave it overnight and see how it looks in the morning. Luckily i have an optimus one spare that has always served me well... It just does not come close to my DS.
I've just had a development!
When i plug it into my windows 7 pc it recognises it as a device "QHSUSB_DLOAD" but fails to install a driver for it.
Can anybody elaborate on what this is?
Thanks!

Afraid this is not good news...you'll need to reign the device and claim under warranty, I wouldn't worry of you made it soff they probably won't be able to tell, read the recent posts on the ext4 recovery thread as same thing happened to someone else
Sorry

Ok thanks for letting me know. I must remember not to customize my HTC's in future...
Is not customize`s fault is yours because you removed the battery when it was still working (freeze yes but chip is still working) :| How ben_pyett said you must send it to htc... there are similar posts around here and all removed the battery > htc service ...sry mate

Do you think the DS should always be turned off when changing the battery?
If you don't intend to buy new one, yea, it should be

Shame the manual doesn't say so then!
Well i've got it booked in for repair.
Has anybody here had many dealings with HTC Repair, or Regenersis (the UK repairer)?
The guy I spoke to over email (i got fed up of waiting on the phone) about my Desire S was a complete retard. He sent me the same email 3 times in reply to me telling me to restore factory settings... Each time I told him it was not possible as the phone would not switch on...
He then told me that UPS could not pick up my phone for at least 2 weeks, this is despite the fact that I sent my Mozart in for repair last week and was told at least 48 hours. So I would have to find my own way to post or courier it.
Then he books the phone in and sends me the 'Tick Sheet' with the phone information and problem description and in the problem description box he wrote "HELLO"??? WTF? What sort of jokers are these?
At least the woman I spoke to about my Mozart was helpful, she actually gave a meaningful response to my questions, but even she got the problem description wrong, writing just "Reboot Cycle" which is way to vague considering the problem it actually had.
Hi guys,
I've run into some problems, I installed Android Revolution HD 6.5 two days ago. Everything worked like a charm, now I shutted down my phone to go in recovery, sadly enough my phone won't reboot, does not charge nor does it respond to my desperate pushes on the power button. Anyone experienced anything like this?
Worth mentioning also is that the battery was 80+% charged.. So it would seem strange to me that this would anything to do with eventual dead battery.
Just to be clear: hadn't installed anything, nothing less, nothing more.
If I could just get acces to bootloader through usb or anything like this.
I fear that there is someting seriously wrong here?
What are you guys thinking? Any possible solutions?
Hi,
The same thing more or less happened to me.
My phone went dead one night and wouldnt turn on, charge or connect with the PC. I had already arranged a repair with HTC for another issue and so I sent it off to them and a few days later I now have it back and it is working fine so far.
They replaced the mainboard and a few other bits and pieces all under warranty.
I hope you get your phone fixed and sorted asap.

Hi,
Is there any chance the battery pins could be damaged or bent?
Is there any way for you to get hold of another battery(from a shop or friend) and try that?
I will test the battery in the laboratory tomorrow.. I've read you should get a minimum of 3.6V or something like that? Curious to see what has caused this problem. Do you think htc would see I flashed a custom rom on it if I send it to repair?

Hi,
That is why i suggest a different battery.
If they can switch it on,they will see the s-off.
If they cannot,it does not matter.

They don't use a JTAG unit or anything like that to see what has went wrong than I presume? Well, first thing I'll do is test it right away at the laboratory. I will post the result in the evening.

My sensation was rooted and had a custom ROM on, but I was preparing to send the phone back in when it got bricked. I had managed to install stock rom and do S-on but the phone had an unlocked bootloader using HTC dev website, so I was worried they wouldnt do the repair.
As it happens they did all the work under warranty and didnt say/ mention having unlocked bootloader. It has come back locked though.
Was anybody able to find a fix for this?
My sensation 4g has basically the same problem. After rooting and installing ICS it worked fine for a few days then it ceased booting or responding to a charger (no LED response). I was able to turn on the phone again by letting it sit for a while but no luck lately. I'm wondering if my phone is bricked?
When I press the power button the screen stays black with lights on (no LED).
I can't get into bootloader and the phone is not detected by ADB, I tried the unbricking project thread by Dexter, however my phone is not detected by linux. On windows, i did get it to detect as qhsusb_dload.
Any thoughts would be helpful!
Thanks

If your getting QHSUSB DLOAD I'm so sorry to tell you as I believe your device is HARD BRICKED. You can try jtag. If you search there are several companies who will jtag. I'm wishing you the best and I'm sorry about your device.

I had to return my HTC Sensation to the repair center. Apparently the motherboard just fried. I got a new motherboard and just S-OFFed the phone again. Very weird problem though. As has been said in this post earlier, if they can't turn on the device they won't see it is S-OFFed and your warranty will apply.
I've just managed to unlock my bootloader on my HTC sensation using HTC dev installed 4EXT and rooted it, installed camera mod all was well, the went to install a battery icon mod, phone restarted then nothing afterward plugged charger in light not coming on so im guessing it's totally bricked now.
Is there a way to get it to work or do i have to risk sending back to HTC and hoping they don't check the phone & just replace it?
Does your Computer recognize it as a phone when you plug it in?

There's a thread that lists the steps to unbrick, but it's not easy.

Nope nothing phone dead, gonna risk sending it back to HTC
If no charging LED, it's properly dead and should be safe to send back.
Aye it totally dead, what the turn around time for HTC replacing phones?
Quite good in my experience, I had my Nexus One picked up by them on a Monday, and it was back in my hand on the Friday.
Do i need to send all the stuff back in the box or only the phone with the battery? also what is the best way to get in touch with them by email or ringing the 0845 number.
I've used both, if you want a quicker answer, then call them.
Pretty sure you keep the battery and battery cover, you just send them the guts, so to speak.
Did you putted out the battery when your phone reboot?
For bricked phones that dexter's unbrick project wont fix there are 2 options
1. Send it back to HTC and wait for a replacement
2. Send it to someone who can JTAG it

If it's a hardware failure, JTAG would likely do nothing.
just wondering if anybody can help me, ive had my phone back from orange/ee repair twice now only for it to develop the same problem yet again, ok so the phone is completely factory standard, i make folders on my home screen with various apps in each and i can access each folder properly, i then turn the phone off when i go to sleep at night and put it on charge, when i wake up in the morning i unplug the phone, turn it on and let it wake up, i then try to access the folders i created and cant when i touch them, this is the part that confuses me, if i touch above the folders i can then access them, if i put another app above the folder and try to open that it will only open the folder below, please could someone enlighten me as to what may be causing this, thankyou
This is only a guess so don't shoot the messenger
Try;
Go to Menu - Settings - Language & Keyboard - HTC Sense Input - Advanced. Then choose either Calibration Tool or Reset calibration
It's meant for text input but ya never know!

HI brother ...
Well, it seems like a firmware problem, to avoid some stupid preactions, throw the phone to Orange repair group, and see if they can fix it.

i know what you're saying mate, but its been for repair twice already and come back with the same fault both times, dont you think throwing it back at them a third time would be taking the iss a bit?

Hi brother ...
Personally, i don't know how to fix it, but, as i told you it seems a software problem, if you don't wanna take it back, just try some custom ROMS or try to install International version of One S Software using RUU, this i guess may solve the issue .
Cordially.

yeh im starting to believe it is a software issue now, i spoke to the chap in the ee shop yesterday and he said he is going to get in contact with his area manager and push to get my phone replaced because he agreed that this was unacceptable, so fingers crossed I'll hopefully have a new phone in the next couple of days. i was considering rooting and flashing a custom rom but really didnt want to because obviously it wouldve voided the warranty, i'll let you know how i get on in a few days, thankyou for taking the time to reply and try and help :screwy:

Hey guys,
My phone fell down from my bed and since that the screen stays black, but the buttons did light up. After I pulled the battery, hoping that it would fix my issue, I can't get the buttons to glow again. I still can get into the Bootloader and into Fastboot. I disassambled my phone and checked all connectors. They are all in place. Is it possible that a micro chip broke in my phone? I don't want to spend 70€ on a new display without being sure that it will fix my problem.

In bootloader the screen is still black. I know that I'm in bootloader because I can use fastboot commands and the phone gets recognized by the pc.
Hi
greeting
Might be a hardware issue.
Your last option might be to replace the screen.
If in warranty,
Flash a ruu and send it to HTC care centre but do not tell them that the phone has been fallen from bed just pretend you know ntng
