Lightning Zap! Kernel feedback - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Post here for your feedback on what you would like to see in the future for the Lightning Zap! kernel.
I want to know what are the most widely used governors, io-schedulers and over/under clock voltages.
I'll post some of my ideas here in a bit to get things rolling

Does it need any more? Quite the nice kernel, sir. Thank you again for all your help with getting mine up and running. You've been a valuable resource for me.

I'd love to see the badass governor added. Otherwise, it's handled everything I have thrown at it with ease.

smartass, sio and under volt were all I ever needed good sir. Your kernels always had the best deep sleep idle (1%)

I was thinking adding badass, lulzactive and scorched and removing
ondemandx and vr io-scheduler

Thanks for your support my friend...

Love the kernel sio/smartass combo is what I'm rocking...great battery life and super smooth keep up the great work. It makes it sooo hard to update to a new phone w the battery life I'm getting on my SR w this kernel and w Nibbles ROM. Any chance of you releasing a ROM of your own for the SR. I thought I read somewhere if you found the time you would cook something up for us...definitely would love that. Either way thanks for your hard work and time you put in for SR community we have greatly benefited from you

Everything seems to be running great no problems at all. I have heard a little about the RoW scheduler any chance this could be included in future builds?

Running ur latest kernel on this settings: i/o scheduler-noop,interactive governor,OC to 1677mhz and voltage all -50...I get really good battery life and great performance with this settings.

How about a "stripped down" version without any init.d tweaks?

or since u know what init.d tweaks are, and are one of the few who do lol, u could just manually remove them yourself from the zip before flashing... just sayin

True. But I'm not sure if any of them are necessary for a properly functioning kernel. I know I can get rid of most of them for sure. But not sure about the governor tweaks

Day 2 on this kernel with Gs2usr's PACman rom. I'm on your recommended lionheart / noop, underclocked to 1026, and undervolted -50 across the board. So far I've gained 10% more battery life over the previous version on stock setup. It's been great so far man, thanks for showing up and providing the awesome kernel when we needed one so badly for the Skyrocket. You have been a true asset to the community since you've been here. Can't wait to see what you've got in store for us with this.

You can remove all the init.d scripts, but they are still part of the Lightning Zap! Project that are necessary for making this kernel what it is... beside, removing the scripts wouldn't make the size of the kernel much smaller, just shrink it a few kb...

Depends on the version, I believe the T11 base was built after October 14th so it should work. Just run a nandroid backup and try it. Worst that can happen is that it won't boot.

Slightly under clocked, noop i/o, interactive. Undervolted 100 across the board. Also running v6 script by zeppelinrox, along with seeder. Vincom superlite v8 with the LZ kernel. Awesome battery life. Thanks for all you do.

Hey u want to know what kind of governors ppl want so I like my battery life any gov that steps up fairly slow and drop quickly I love lulactive but if I remember right it doesn't play nice with our CPU. So anything that has good battery life.

I am testing this now, praying the BFS scheduler finally gives me a lag free CM7 experience. Is the minmax governor a better performer than smartass?
I prefer x99's smartass, I think he just tweaked it recently on his github. I think minmax is a older govenor. I also get better battery life with the smartass
I just added minmax for testing purposes and to have more governor options
Thanks for the update will test over the weekend.

Nice, well I tested it to the max for a whole day using gps navigation, wifi, 4g, pretty much everything lol. Data connection also seems better as well.
Soo far everything is working good. My wifi works perfect which I couldn't get to work with x99's kernel no matter how I tried flashing it including a full wipe.
What speed does this kernel boot at? Is there any way you can implement any of Scary's goodies into your kernel? I liked that his let's you do 184 min. Also any way to go higher than 1.5 ghz as I like using 1.8 at times. What is the sleep max on say ondemand etc. Anyway your gonna do undervolting?
Anyway thanks for the kernel and the hard work!

yes as soon as my team member get's back from vaction we'll be working on things like that. So the kernel can be worked on more
I basicly pushed this kernel out as soon as I had it working perfectly
After an hour or so of testing I have experienced no launcher or messenger app lag, whatever you did here its working for me.. I wonder if its the BFS? Do you know if bcnice aosp kernel used this too? His kernel is the only other like this that performed so well..

yes I do think it's bfs. I noticed how well the animations and graphics are so smooth. If I went back to none bfs I don't think I'd like it haha
Not sure about bcnice has it
Don't install this kernel version over the latest nightly, some things like wifi seem to not be working. I'll work on a updated version as I really want to stay up-to-date haha
Updated kernel but I have to remove bfs due to compatibility issues
Soo far everything is running great. I have no issues running 1.8ghz at all if I'm using ondemand governor.
How much did you undervolt? Meaning is it kinda like scary's or more like Bc's or X99's.
Thanks for making a great kernel. Everything works for me perfect.
1 request... Can you add 184mhz like Scary had? My phone saves lots of battery when I use it.

This kernel is nice and fast on Shift Deck ROM but it seems to be a little rough on my battery. I've only been using it for about 4 hours, so maybe with some tweaking I can get it back up to par. Really enjoying the speed though.. Appreciate the great work.

Most of the changes in the nighties you are not going to notice a whole lot. The biggest changes are changes in the kernel. This kernel was built of the latest nightly kernel just a couple of days ago so it should be compatible with all the nightlies unless they mess with the kernel some more. But cyanogen just tweeted that we will have a rc soon So I'd just wait until then. Also I'm going to take a look at the stock ota update and see if I can hack the kernel and rom for us to intall without the latest hboot

[MOD] Overclock module for the One S/XL (up to 1.9GHz)

Hello!
You probably already heard about the OC module by coolbho3000. It's really nice and most of the credits should go to him.
Last night I was checking the module's code and tweaking it, and today I want to release the changes I've made to it.
Basically, the changes are the following:
- Overclock up to 1.9GHz
- It also supports the following speeds: 1.6, 1.7 and 1.8 GHz (with a voltage lower than 1300000uV)
- Code improved a little.
I've attached a ZIP file with the compiled module, a modified thermald.conf, and the source code.
Enjoy it!

Does this Undervolt the stock cpu speeds? anyone got a module that only does just that, undervolts with no overclocks. I personally think the phone is snappy enough at the stock speeds and have no desire to overclock. but If i could undervolt it for more batt life at stock speeds i'd be all for it.
How is this working for everyone?

underclocking and undervolting are two entirely different things. also I haven't heard of a ROM that underclocks as that would affect performance (read: speed)

Tw freezing = bad oc?

Hey guys, I was running 1.782GHz for a while but I would get touch wiz freezing on me from time to time.
Do you guys think this is oc related?
I just reverted to one step lower than that, whatever it was.
Hopefully that fixes it.

It could be the voltage settings. If its not getting enough juice it can start to stall and worse case reboot. If you can rule that out it could also be GPU clocks if they're clocked too high.
I find that our skyrockets don't do well with mix and matching kernels and roms that haven't been tweaked to work together. You may want to try embryo 4.1 if using mohan's kernel. He write both and the integration is almost flawless, and the rom is a touchwiz base which helps our finicky skyrocket with stability. What do you need the overclock for?
Sent from my SGH-I727R
I really don't need the oc. I just wanted at least an oc since I love overclocking lol.
If I get any more problems with volts/oc ill see if I can edit the oc script to give more volts.
Thanks guys.
No problems thus far
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
fair enough, I don't really like to oc due to lack of cooling for these phones, and they seem to run best if not too over done. been using deadline for a governor though and find its far more stable and efficient (great battery/performance) than cfq, so that's my only other recommendation for cymbaline.

LeanKernel 12.2 on SynergyROM 1.4

I tried to reply to the main thread in the development thread for SynergyROM, but as I do not have the 10 posts required, I figured I'd put it here. If this is against the rules, please let me know and remove this.
Apparently the busybox install on 1.4 is a little botched, and as such, when you install LeanKernel 12.2, it doesn't run the scripts it needs to in order to run it's magic.
All you need to do to get it to work again is fix the install of busybox on your phone. You can download busybox from the Play store and install it to your phone, and after that, installing the kernel should be relatively easy.
I've been running 12.2 on my phone for the better part of today at work and have had no issues with it at all.
I'd attach a link as proof, but apparently I can't do that either.
This is what I did too and it's working wonders.

I have been trying to decide which one to load

Now I know that imo 12.2 will work
long as the busybox is loaded first.
due to the issues with 12.2 loop booting.

The battery saver from the script sets the max frequency on the cpus to 1134000. This can be changed in the script as well. I run the batter saver but change the max frequency to 1350000 for both cores. I do not believe the kernel has underclocking abilities currently, but I may be wrong. Definitely snappier with the kernel than without. The combination of the two is excellent.

You may have accidentally flashed the v12 of the kernel. On the thread on rootzwiki look under changelog and download v12.2 it should fix the LED issue.
Want to post in the synergy thread but now enough post counts -_-
Anyone can think of a compelling reason to not jump for synergy 1.4 with the lean kernel 12.2 and wait for synergy 1.5 instead? Eschelon made it sound like it would drop soon and I'm just trying to gauge from the comments on the synergy thread if there are major problems.....main things that bother me are battery life degradation claims and 4G speed variances.
Bonus: A tad off topic, but I was wondering if anyone running the synergy roms replaced their touchwiz apps with aosp apps? Reason I ask is because I cannot live without the ICS email client and prefer the messaging client as well.
Thanks for the heads up from everyone confirming the busybox issue with 1.4 to be compatible with 12.2 lean kernel.

If you want to play around with Google Now then go for 1.4. 1.5 will not require a wipe according to eschelon. I've found the battery life on 1.4 to be close to par with 1.3. Maybe a little more battery hungry, but not much.

Yes, this build works for Liquidsmooth v2.9
The 3.4 builds are for AOSP ROMs and 3.0 builds are for Touchwiz.
Any build newer than 7-30 is strictly for Android 4.3 only.

Alright. I'll try it out tomorrow. I could use some extra battery life. And what does it mean by Trinity Colors?

That, my friend, I do not know. Lol.
But I've noticed when powered off and charging, the battery icon graphic on the screen is all jacked up with the included kernel in Liquidsmooth. This BMS kernel has resolved that issue. Maybe its related to that somehow? I have no idea. Lol.

It's a little weird to explain until you actively test it. In your rom, there should be a Settings/Advanced Options/Phone (or Advanced Settings). Go there and you can adjust the display temperature to be warmer (more reddish) or cooler (more bluish). Make sure to turn the display off each time you change the display temperature for it to take effect.

I agree with BMS kernel. It's definitely the best AOSP kernel I have used, and LS is the best ROM I've used and I have tried almost everything so this should definitely optimize your experience

Not 100% sure why but I was getting random reboots with BMS. Luckily I had a backup and flashed to right before I flashed BMS.

Your phone probably can't handle the undervolting, just up the voltages and I think you'd be fine

Actually had it at normal voltages. Now that I think about it, I had it at 1566. Now that I'm back at stock, stock max is 1512. That's probably what it was.

You might be confusing the terminology. Stock max cpu speed is 1512 mhz but the voltage would be about 1200mv at that clock. 1566 would be in reference to the clock speed.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Late night for me, not doing so well. I'll give BMS a second whirl tomorrow.

I'm not sure you got what the other guy was saying tho. BMS undervolts by default so up the voltage +50 all across the board and see of reboots stop.

Wouldn't it still be used to normal frequencies? I doubt it can get used to that drastic of a change that quickly just from booting once.

The frequencies yes but your phone may not like the voltage the frequencies are set at.
