[Q] Boot PalmOS on an Android device? - General Questions and Answers

Can it be done?
If I had an HTC Desire for example, which has four buttons and a D-pad, is it possible to flash PalmOS 5 on it?
(This might be the wrong forum for a question like this, but I didn't know where else to post it...)

I don't think so. the architecture has to be the same and some guy have to port PalmOS to the device. the right drivers for your device have to be integrated into PalmOS, and i think LG/HTC/Samsung.. did not developed them. Why would you want to do this? Android is way better and you can customize it with Applications, maybe you can mimic look and feel of the PalmOS.

It is probably possible somehow but I use the StyleTap PalmOS emulator to run Palm apps on Android. I loved that emulator on Windows Mobile and it's "almost" as good on Android.

[DEV Discussion] HD Mini Android/Linux Development Thread

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the possibilities of getting Android up and running on the HD Mini.
A word to the wise…porting Android is NOT easy, it took almost 1 year to get an (almost) fully working port for the HTC Touch Pro, and there were a LOT of really good Linux developers spending TONS of time on it. (The preceding sentence was paraphrased from this post by TheDeadCpu.)
***There have been many threads opened on this topic…and most of them have been merged with this thread. So let’s keep the discussion located on THIS thread…new threads opened on this topic will be closed, deleted or merged without warning. Let me know if new threads pop up by sending me a PM or using the report post icon in the top right of the post ….thanks!

Me to!! Can't live with what's in the HD Mini, but most certainy I can live with the hardware. Anybody knowing how to androidize it?
I bought HD mini due to the outlook, size and weight!
Legend have poor taste and the shape is not good to store in pocket.
Frankly, WM is more easy to copy and edit the Word/Excel files from PC and I can check some files out of office easily.
And I just seek for any solutions for multi-boot with Android OS as Android looks better and I just want to try it and need not to buy another phone.
Cos I have one iPhone already, too many mobile phones~
When the evo rom arrives, it will be ported to hd2. I find it logical that it will be a android powered hd mini in the future. Then, it would be rather easier than now to create a custom android rom for hd mini But I should stick to reality.
The dual boot app for winmo devices isn't written for hd minis hvga resolution.
But hey, the diamond 2 or touch pro 2 does not have a android twin to take a rom from. I will put up a request for hd mini support for the android dual boot app.
The hd mini would have been a great android device!
Sorry for bad English.
Thanks gingerviking! I agree that the hardware is made for Android rather than wm6.5. I cross my finger for a rapid solution - WM is just not for me anymore..
Good news is that a genious has managed to get the linux bootloader to work on hd2 and playing a 720p video. An Android port will soon come to hd2 even without the evo rom
Hopefully the kernel system on hd2 isn`t all that different from the hd mini
Well. We're all looking forward to see a genious hacker who cares about the hd mini and android. =)
Don't know if it will work but you guys could give it a try cause it runs via haret:
w w w _dot_ neopeek.com/en/stories/android/75-update-android-fuer-htc-blackstone-diamond-tilt-raphael-rhodium-topaz-fuze
@XDA-Mods: after months of waiting! when will you update my account?
Anything else besides android that you guys might want??? how about some cookies along with it? lol if you wanted android why did you bought a windows mobile based device?? cause of haret? if you want android on your hd2 mini, yould need a working linux kernel, then you can worry about android, and its not that easy im not going over this again im tired of explaining to noobs that android is not a a program that you can simply install...it dosnt work that way.

I hate you. Htc!
I have great news for all you people living in the US: Like the evo 4g with sprint(android version of hd2). At&t have released the htc aria, a true android clone of the hd mini. Just google it for more info.
Yes and, unfortunately for us, HTC Aria will be, and nowadays is, available only for USA market...
I want it in Italy!!!!!! Or maybe... someone which could "do" a complete Android ROM for the HD Mini, based on the Aria!?!?!? I wish it! I really want it...!
Because HD Mini is so pocketlly beautiful!!!!
its a company fault
we have went to market to get it and it was WM and now they have released HD Mini with Anderiod ,
so it is who's fault,
i hope anyone can give info how to get the rom of android for our hd mini (old) one

Is it Possible to Import Android to SE P1i ??

hi devs
i am a owner of Sonyericsson P1i, i have had this phone for 4 years, and its difficult for me to change it to another phone the only problem which i have had with this phone is the message application which is not "Threaded View".
i know it sounds crazy but is there any chance to install android on it? that would be greate
thaaaaaaaaaaaaanx
I do not think soo.
i guessed so, is it because its not capacitive touch screen? or because of the CPU and RAM ?
What os? And capacitive or resistive it doesn't matter android has some resistive tablets out there.

I'm sure it's possible if you're smart enough and willing to put in the work. But is it worth the effort?

thanks for the info, it runs symbian uiq3
i'm not a dev, and i don't even know where to begin for this work
I know its old thread and most of the people with this phone are gone or dont remember what i ask for, but anyone knows forum where i ca find custom fws for this phone?
Just bought one for 4$ (2$ shipment) and would like to play with it a little when it came to me

Windows 8, android device as touch input.

I am looking to do some windows 8 development, as you may know they ethos is "touch first".
There is a built in simulator that i can use in Visual Studio but i would prefer to use some real hardware.
I currently own a Galaxy note, and was wondering if could use that as an input device.
Preferably i would like to be able to clone my desktop to my note and be able to control it there via multitouch.
If this is not possible, i would settle for the ability to simply use it as a multitouch tablet.
Anyone know how i could go about this?
Thanks,
Xyis
Well the closest app that does what you are looking for is:
Win8 Metro TestBed from Splashtop
it's a little pricy but it works pretty well.
Maybe it can help you to learn how it works.
Hope you develop a free alternative xD
Dave
Sounds like just what i was after and i dont mind the price too much, but my device is not supported and it sounds like it currently runs quite slow. Will definitely keep my eye on it though.
Thanks for the suggestion.
+1

Similar to HTC HD2

I am using HTC HD2 and i love it. It's main advantage is, you can install multiple OS. But recently i am facing key stripe problem on my phone and i already wasted money to repair it.
So i want to know, is there is other best model like HD2 which have ability to install multiple OS and best in hardware.
Thanks
Simple answer is no. The HD2 was the last of a dieing breed.

+1 to the answer being no. The HD2 came at a very convenient time, when its specs were simply the best of any phone at the time and the software was at the end of its life. This sparked such a huge development effort and, as you can see, has created what is probably the most diverse device in existence. Not only that, but I just don't know if it will actually be possible to use other OSes on any other phones (don't think any native Android phones can run WP7 or vice versa).

Is there a way to manipulate an Android Phone with broken touchscreen?

Hello folks,
I have few different Android phones with broken touch screens
one was sit on;
another was liquid damaged, but the rest works;
and the third one is Nexus 4, ha!
I don’t want just to throw them away, and nobody will ever buy them even for parts, those are pretty obsolete.
Can I manipulate the phones somehow?
Say, adb interface.
or a kind of SSH, if that’s possible.
or bluetooth keyboard or trackpad; I have those from Apple, I tried at least keyboard with Android 7 and 8, and it works wonderfully.
or maybe another Android phone.
The phones are on stock firmwares, but I can try to reflash any different, if that’s possible with no touch screen working. Android 2.3, Android 4.4, Android 7.1.2, if that makes a difference.
Of course, I don’t need to use them on my daily basis. Maybe I’ll find them some other ways of serving, since Android has Linux kernel. E.g. make a FTP on one of the phones (it has a lot of free space), or playing with a web server there, or anything else.

Can you help me to come to this point? I don't understand how to do that: what should I start with? Halium documentation first?
According to their First steps section:
While 1GB of RAM is sufficient to start the OS, it is recommended to have greater than 2GB to have a good end user experience.

Most of my devices (Nexus 4 is an exception) have 512 MB of RAM. Maybe there is a way of using them as they are, with the Android they have, manipulating with bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

You can see if your device is listed. If it isn't well then go for it.Also you can search "install debian natively on android" and the search hits you with a linux installation natively on android. That I have tried on A Note 3 and worked without touching recovery or other partitions.Halium is just Ljnux with KDE plasma on top(A ****ty one)

Thanks! I'll search through it. But I think it's worth it only with Nexus 4, as it's still kicking in some forms.
Other phones are useless for that, and all I'm looking for them either there's a way of making them useful, or they’d better to go to a trash.
