P3113 audio question - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, I know the P5113 US has the HDMI out support over the 30-pin connector via the adapter Samsung sells and One user on here with one a 5113 (assumed may because he said he had a tab 2 10.1 and location is in USA) was able to use a 30-pin to RCA and USB (for charging) seen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018021 to get audio out over the 30 pin so my question is does the P3113 have the hardware support to do the same or is that part of the same setup that has to do with the HDMI and how it works on the 5113 and NOT the 3113?
And if anyone on any 31xx series has found a cable that will do this can supply a link, trying to configure a single plug setup to design an in dash holder for the tab.

I am interested in this myself. I am suppose to be picking up a P3113 tomorrow and plan on using this primarily in my truck. Hopefully someone with experience in this can point us in the right direction. I may end up ordering one of those cables and trying it out but was hoping someone else had already tried it and could report back.
the_buzz_man

I called Samsung yesterday about this very subject. I am a music producer and am very interested in using the P3113 to handle high quality audio.
I asked the Samsung tech specifically about how to go about getting high quality audio in and out of the P3113. The lady I spoke with had no specific knowledge as to whether it was possible or not, so I asked her to look and see if there were any cables or adapters for this purpose. She looked and said she didn’t find anything. I then asked about getting a pin out chart of the 30 pin connector and she couldn’t find that either. Her best recommendation was to go to samsungparts.com & order the service manual. She said she THOUGHT the pinout chart (or whatever it’s called) would be in the service manual but couldn’t promise either way though.
As soon as I get the time I intend on calling Samsung again and seeing if I can get to a deeper department than just first level technical help. Maybe I will get lucky and speak to someone who actually knows about handling audio. If not, and if no one has success with the aforementioned cable I intend on getting that service manual and seeing if I can get a tech to help me determine how to go about doing it, and perhaps getting a custom cable made for that purpose.
I got my P3113 for Christmas and started reading on here every day since. Early on I remember seeing a thread somewhere talking about some kind of dock for one of the Galaxy Tab 2 models, and it seems like someone hacked up that dock and was successful with audio. I can’t remember where that thread is, and a quick search didn’t lead me back to it. I wish I would have been taking notes that early. When I have more time I will look for that thread and see.
It would be really cool if someone has success with the cable mentioned in this thread. If no one finds out, or if it is determined that this particular cable doesn’t help us, I will get the 30 pin connector looked at by a tech and report back my findings.
Is there anyone out there that can help us out?

Geez you guys ever read anything here? I must have answered this question 20 times and Samsung accessories web pages is pretty clear. The P31XX series does not have the hardware to do HDMI or any video output. The P51xx does.
Again now repeat after me, The P51xx series is compatible with the HDMI adapter the P31xx including the p3113 is not compatible and cannot produce video out. The P6210 (Tab 7 Plus) is compatible and does HDMI, the P3113 does not.
The audio on the 30 pins is available on all models and it is the same as the audio on the headphone jack. I don;t know what you noobs call high quality audio, but its simple stereo analog audio which is as high as stereo ANALOG gets. Repeat the Samsung media dock for the P31xx series has this two I/Os
1. USB Power for charging or sync
2. Analog Stereo audio out.. " 3.5mm audio out jack supports external speakers or home stereo connection."
Nothing more, nothing less. No video out, not audio in.
This is the technical info of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pinouts for digital and analog I/O on the 30 pin dock connector.. NOTE: the MHL (video out) pins are not functional in the P3113 and P3100

I know you said it had the same as the headphone out thru the USB (from your last post in the thread I linked), what I'm looking for is a CONFIRMED working 30-pin cable that both charges the tab and give AUDIO out (i'm OK with it being the same audio as the headphones), I don't need video, I just want a quick and easy one plug and go cable when I get in the car, so I don't have to deal with plugging in a charge cable and a headphone cable into opposite ends, which will make my Tab not fit where I plan to put it when I do the final install.

It seems that Tab 2 7 and Tab 2 10.1 do not have the same connection logic if P-1000 cables work for the Tab 2 10.1 (GT-P51xx) - the ones I have do not work for the GT-P3110 out of the box.
Check my findings on 30 pin audio out in this thread.

->[Q] Tablet with digital audio out [tablet->optical(toslink or coax)cable->DAC]
Hello,
I've tried the search and couldn't find anything relating to my issue.
I need a portable device/music player that has the ability to stream digital audio to my DAC (digital to analog converter).
I would like to listen to my music in my car using this tablet/music player. I have a DAC/Signal prosessor which has both optical coax and toslink inputs to recieve the signal so either one is fine.
Here is the signal path explained once again:
tablet -> optical toslink or coax cable -> DAC -> any given audio system (In my case also car audio system)
Please help me choose a tablet or help me find a way to do this. I know that some tablets have hdmi out, but it gets a little too tricky to seperate the digital audio signal from hdmi port to spdif, am I right?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
-Tersi
Guys, I don't mean to be impatient but I thought this was the place to get some answers to my problem.
Is there a way to send digital audio via usb port? I think there are ways to convert digital audio from usb to spdif..
Or could there maybe be a docking station, that has a digital audio output?
Please share your knowlage of the tablet world!
I am also looking for this too! I want to use a tablet as a car pc and run the audio out of it digitally to prevent all noise and ground loop headaches.
Did anyone ever get anywhere with this. I'm looking to do the exact same thing and the HDMI converter kit I bought is useless so I'm looking for another go around.
ainol novo basic
I just received an ainol novo basic w/ ICS (mcbub.com from LA). It uses a MIPS processor so not all apps are 100% compatible, however I am able to use it as intended (music player). If you tether you can use pandora, slacker, etc.
I take the HDMI out into a monoprice 5557 (sorry no url)
HDMI converter which outputs toslink, analog, RCA.
I use this in a home application (110v), however they are low power and you can use it in a car.
Be careful you need the Ainol Basic because it has the HDMI output. The paladin (which I also have) does not.
I'm sure there are others but for $130 I doubt you will do better, especially because it's running ICS also.
I use RCA optical into my Fiio DAC (sounds better). Toslink works too.
Monoprice switch uses ~3W on 5V, the Ainol is powered by miniusb.
I'm sure you have an onboard DAC (Fiio is excellent tho), but if you dont I recommend it. It has issues w/ 5.1 audio tho, so only pass it stereo.
I haven't tested 5.1 sound on it, although the specs say it will pass it. Your DAC will probably be the issue.
HTH.
Is this the only tablet that can do that? I was also considering this. Doing digital to the back of the car and then running it to a powerful car audio system.
I am also looking for this tablet or solution to this problem. Anybody knows?

[Q] SGS Micro USB to Headphones & 3pole to 2pole Stereo Adapters

I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (UK) and the headphone socket has 3 Poles 3.5mm as it deals with Video as well, from what I've been told on DarkysRom forums standard headphones won't work, mine don't, but the Stock 3 Pole ones work fine,
Ive had trouble with Adaptors , but the one I got from Amazon didn't work at all, and the seller quickly took the SGS I9000 off the list of compatible adaptors.
I'm desperately seeking info concerning AUDIO LEFT RIGHT Output from the MICRO USB SOCKET as well as the Headphone Video Out socket.
I need 2 Audio paired outputs for a DJ Software project. 1 for Headphone queing and 1 for amplification (through a HI-FI Amplifier).
Anyone still making CUSTOM HEADPHONE LEADS ?? Or any links?

Modding the original samsung dock

After buying the dock and seeing that I've paid $24 only for a piece of plastic with a connector I decided to dig a little deeper into it to make it better.
So, I was assimilating information from these topics:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155065
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16342363&postcount=4
I started to put my knowledge at work and this is what came out - see attachments.
Basically I can now use my charger of choice and at the same time I can plug in USB stuff.
The small relay inside is switching the power supply for the USB host from the 5V output of the tablet to the main 5V supply when you are plugging in the power adapter (the original or non-original).
The button next to the USB host (I know .. it is white .. but they were not having other colors at the electronics store ) has the function to switch the connection of the USB port from the regular OTG to the circuit that is enabling the AC charging on the tablet. So, when I'm not using the usb host capabilities the tablet will charge in fast mode, with full current.
There is one interesting thing I've found. If I'm plugging in the tablet with the switch in the fast-charge mode and after that I'm switching to USB-Host mode, the tablet will still continue to charge in AC mode (see snapshots for proof ).
I have to mention that all the original functionality of the dock has been preserved and the 30 pin connector at the back can still be used with the original intent (with the proper cables).
If anyone want to replicate this mod and needs additional details, just ask and I'll gladly answer.
Very cool. Lots of great details and pics.
One word: Brilliant.
Good work mate.
Awesome what about a HDMI port?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 using Tapatalk
The hdmi has to wait a little. I have ordered a mhl adapter on ebay but is gonna take a while until will arive. An on top of that I need to find time in my crowded schedule.
Could you please supply the wiring schematic diagram of your mod? That would be a lot helpful. Thank you.
This is awesome, great work! Shame it doesn't come with that full USB port stock. If I get one of these tabs, I'll definitely be looking to repeat your work.

awesome, can't wait to see your update of HDMI
I'm sorry not to have provided the requested info but my daily job is currently killing all my time (including the theoretically spare time). I'll draw the schematics ASAP and also I'll re-order the MHL adapter since the first one got lost in the mail (and I've been reimbursed).
Anyway, as a heads-up - I'm thinking to put the MHL adapter on top of the dock so I'll keep the original port accessible (and also the audio jack). I still don't know how exactly I'm going to do this ... but I think I'll figure it out when the time will come.
thats quite innovative

apparently the dock has hdmi passthrough meaning you still need the samsung hdmi adapter (http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EPL-3PHPBEGSTA) I haven't yet tried my dock with my hdmi adapter, I will do tomorrow and let you know - good luck incorporating that too
awesome job mate...schematics would be really helpful. Can't do this mod on my own, but my father is more than capable...I think i have project for him (if you can find some time to draw those schematics off course )
Would it be possible to modify the dock to disable data and only enable AC charging? I'm using the Tab in my car and every car charger I use seems to only send 500mA of current to the Tab so it dies a slow death in my car and needs to be recharged at home once a week or so.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Can you show where you soldered wires to in the dock?
Bought one and want to charge at same time as watch movies from usb device.
Anybody help me?
Have you thought about making and selling these?. I for one would certainly buy one!. Wouldn't have the balls to try and do it myself...... av
Hi guys,
I've put together some schematics. Sorry for the lack of very deep details but I can not take the glue off my board and other hi-def picture I was unable to find so you will have to use an ohmmeter to find out the exact pins based on the clues in the picture.
Basically, in the attached picture is the implementation I currently have in the dock. Due to the lack of free time I was unable to continue with implementing the MHL adapter inside so I guess I'll drop that one.
If you need any details based on the attached picture do not hesitate to ask.
Full size picture: http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/83/dockmod.png
And to answer the ones asking if I'm thinking to sell these : Actually that thought crossed my mind. I have other mods done on my Galaxy Nexus also (see the Ringke inductive charging mod) and also other great stuff that I'm building by exercising my hobby. Unfortunately, when I'm pushing like 70-80 hours a week on my daily job there is little to none spare time left .. and the little I got I'm spending it with my son. In a relative future when I'll have more spare time (or no job) I'll consider starting a business based on the know-how I've gathered until now.
thanks for update...
Just purchased the break out board so when arrives will give this a go!!!

usb host, hdmi & charge...AT THE SAME TIME!
I just wanted to point out a similar thread posted in the "galaxy tab plus accessories" forum. This may have already been done before but i figured it would be much bigger news if so. XDA member "emil_b" claims to have modified the multimedia dock to simultaneously do hdmi out, trickle charge the tab , & serve as usb host! In case some of u may not know, the same dock works with ALL tab variants(PERSONALLY ONLY TESTED WITH P1000, P7100, P6200, P6210 BUT 99% CERTAIN) so if this proves true, this should be shared with all the other tab forums in hopes that it can be made into an actual product.

Ended up modding my dock now and have usb host with charging...

old dock from samsung p1000...
i have from my old p1000 (i sold it) the docking station at home. mhm i think they have the same cabel and so.
but the p1000 have 7zoll and my tab have 8,9 and the pin is landscape
i cut the dockstation and my GT-7310 works wonderfull with the ( i say modded ) dock.
mini hdmi works and the rest too. only one problem is there now, i but a little piece of paper behind the tab and dock, for the perfect fit xD
okay the cuts look terrible but i work on them
sorry for my english but i hope you can see on the pics what i mean gg

[Q] galaxy tab plus P6200 otg + RCA cable work?

Hi Gurus,
1 Question, I have seen many post on HDMI cables to plus & it works but I have a question on RCA cables.
I understand that those ebay & amazon selling Galaxy tab P1000 RCA cable will not work, so I have thought about this & in case someone have tried,
If i get a Samsung Galaxy Tab USB Adapter
(SAMSUNG TO FEMALE USB ADAPTER CONNECTOR GALAXY TAB ) & connect to
3-RCA to USB ADAPTER which amounts is <$10 USD
Can this work on the TV if connected.
I 'll be cool if it works, we can play movies & stuffs...
thanks!
150 viewers & 0 takers? well, i have ordered the RCA cable..once arrived..we can tell...
No it absolutely won't work. RCA is analog SD video. USB is digital data. The cables are designed for very peculiar equipment that has the ability to output video that way, not generic USB equipment. Heck, not even normal USB video cards work on Android, and this isn't even that.
have got the RCA cable for galaxy P1000...it did not work for plus..but i can open up the connector & resolder the wiring based on the 30 pin schematic..
anyone know for RCA connection..what should the pin connection be for audio & video...if it works out..then we can have RCA cable which is cheaper & hdmi still have to get a cable for hdmi itself...& frame lag ...
audio works
I have a p1000 cable with RCA video audio out and USB connection the audio and charge works great but no video.tested on 10.1, 8.9, and 7+

It's still an analog cable. Unless you can get the tablet to push an analog video signal, this won't work.
but comparing tab plus & tab 7.0, tab 7 P1000 can work with RCA cable & schematically, they look the same...so is it the software which defers the plus from working? I have ordered the hdmi dock as well, but it be glad for everyone if we can make this happens...
if the P1000 can work RCA...
P6200 should too...
I understand that in P1000 there is this TV out settings,
can this "app" be exported to tab plus...?
Just an update to the above for anyone want to know about getting the tv connection to work:
bought the desktop dock from ebay/amazon (OEM) about 25 bucks & a cheap min hdmi cable to work.
1 thing to notice though, charging cable to tab plus must be plug in to work or no signal will generate.
Also when running tv shows from plus, streaming Tv will be slower than usual when connected to TV somehow...
When disconnected, streaming is normal, when connected, streaming is slower but will still get to show on TV connection.
Also, when running certain program in portait mode, tv still show landscape even though auto-rotating is enabled (or disable), tried both ways,
so it shows that it only support landscape mode.
not sure on HDTV adapater though...only experienced with desktop dock of galaxy tab 7.0 (this work for my plus 7.0)

Connecting an android phone to a car with a MOST optical audio system. Help needed!

Hi all,
I have an interesting problem to pose to the techies amongst you.
I have just managed to get my dream car and now need to integrate my phone without paying the huge sums being asked for by the car manufacturers and some aftermarket electronic suppliers (car ICE specialists too). My phone is currently a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the car has MOST optical audio and satnav systems.
I'm after 3 distinct, yet simultaneous, solutions, which are : -
A/ power supply to the phone
B/ HDMI or RCA output to a dash mounted 5 inch lcd screen for satnav purposes
C/ audio output to link into the car's current MOST audio system (head unit in the dashboard, also running the car's hvac, and the amplifiers are in the boot)
My first thought was to open up the USB 3 cable and to run individual wires to 3 separate plugs for each of the 3 solutions listed above. At this point many of you may be laughing at my clearly very poor understanding of modern electronics, particularly USB, and I would not argue that at all - I'm a complete dimwit here! Obviously (I think...) the clear solution is in the fact that USB can run different objectives simultaneously.
So... I run my USB 3 CABLE from the phone to a (presumably powered?) USB 3 hub and have 3 appropriate cables plugged in and running respectively to A/ a USB cigarette lighter socket, B/ an hdmi (or RCA, or composite?) plug and C/ to a standard stereo headphone jack or socket.
I don't think A/ will work because I don't see power going from the socket back through the hub and into the phone. Suggestions welcomed as I can't see how to get power to the phone at the same time as having a USB cable supplying data out. Or is there power over USB through a hub available?
B/ seems straightforward enough.
C/ the audio then needs to go to an analog to digital / wired to optical adapter and then a 2 into 1 optical switch (so I can still have the existing output from the head unit) before plugging into the amplifiers. These 2 adapters are easily available through eBay, Amazon or Maplins as far as I can see. The issue I foresee here is will the head unit still be able to control volume, fade, etc of the signal coming from the phone? If the control of the amplifiers happens via the optical cables then presumably that won't happen if I've used a switch to change the source? Would taking the output from the phone's headphone socket be of any benefit? I doubt it as the output power from there may be quite a bit higher than from the USB port...
So you can see that I clearly need some knowledgeable direction here or I will be forever going round in ever decreasing circles!
Many thanks in advance for any help given. Cheers, Mark
