->[Q] Tablet with digital audio out [tablet->optical(toslink or coax)cable->DAC]
Hello,
I've tried the search and couldn't find anything relating to my issue.
I need a portable device/music player that has the ability to stream digital audio to my DAC (digital to analog converter).
I would like to listen to my music in my car using this tablet/music player. I have a DAC/Signal prosessor which has both optical coax and toslink inputs to recieve the signal so either one is fine.
Here is the signal path explained once again:
tablet -> optical toslink or coax cable -> DAC -> any given audio system (In my case also car audio system)
Please help me choose a tablet or help me find a way to do this. I know that some tablets have hdmi out, but it gets a little too tricky to seperate the digital audio signal from hdmi port to spdif, am I right?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
-Tersi

Guys, I don't mean to be impatient but I thought this was the place to get some answers to my problem.
Is there a way to send digital audio via usb port? I think there are ways to convert digital audio from usb to spdif..
Or could there maybe be a docking station, that has a digital audio output?
Please share your knowlage of the tablet world!

I am also looking for this too! I want to use a tablet as a car pc and run the audio out of it digitally to prevent all noise and ground loop headaches.

Did anyone ever get anywhere with this. I'm looking to do the exact same thing and the HDMI converter kit I bought is useless so I'm looking for another go around.

ainol novo basic
I just received an ainol novo basic w/ ICS (mcbub.com from LA). It uses a MIPS processor so not all apps are 100% compatible, however I am able to use it as intended (music player). If you tether you can use pandora, slacker, etc.
I take the HDMI out into a monoprice 5557 (sorry no url)
HDMI converter which outputs toslink, analog, RCA.
I use this in a home application (110v), however they are low power and you can use it in a car.
Be careful you need the Ainol Basic because it has the HDMI output. The paladin (which I also have) does not.
I'm sure there are others but for $130 I doubt you will do better, especially because it's running ICS also.
I use RCA optical into my Fiio DAC (sounds better). Toslink works too.
Monoprice switch uses ~3W on 5V, the Ainol is powered by miniusb.
I'm sure you have an onboard DAC (Fiio is excellent tho), but if you dont I recommend it. It has issues w/ 5.1 audio tho, so only pass it stereo.
I haven't tested 5.1 sound on it, although the specs say it will pass it. Your DAC will probably be the issue.
HTH.

Is this the only tablet that can do that? I was also considering this. Doing digital to the back of the car and then running it to a powerful car audio system.

I am also looking for this tablet or solution to this problem. Anybody knows?

What kind of tablet do you have there are otg and charging kernels for most of the popular tablets and a few tricks for any samsung that supports otg...and if ur tablet doesn't support it u can wire a relay to a moded cable that will charge when the car is off and otg when car is on.. if u need details let me know.

[Q] Tablet for car use - smooth mkv, usb otg + hdmi out?

Hi,
I am looking for tablet to use in my car - I want it to be a multimedia device used for playing audio /or/+/ video (outputting it to rear-seat monitors as well), being ready for usb stick connection anytime and have dvb-t tuner connected 24/7.
Now after a long search I cannot really find a tablet that's around 7-8 inches, is powerful enough to handle full hd mkv's, and have mini hdmi along with double micro-usb otg, so I can have both usb stick and dvb-t tuner connected, and still have car charger attached to it, so I thought someone here may be able to help.
Anyone?
how about this tablet?
http://www.amazon.com/PPTab%C2%AE-Inch-Android-4-2-Tablet/dp/B00KAJ9444/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1401839610&sr=8-9&keywords=hdmi+tablet
That won't work smoothly with 1080p high-bitrate video for sure
I gotta admit there's [probably] no high-end tablets with separate hdmi out currently on the market, I keep searching and searching and nothing comes up...
ntdm 3000 is a cheap chinese tablet which i use its great for 1080p on bs or mx player,.
idont know if its hdmi though.
Yeah, it doesn't.
The point it it does not need to be cheap - but there's none with hdmi out.
Found some of the tablets by "KURGER & MATZ" to have 2 micro usb ports but... they don't have both gps and bluetooth

Nexus 7 2012 has mhl (HDMI through USB port) and DVT tuner support and has car specific roms . Samsung tablets (8 inch and up) all have capability also . older 7 inchAcer a100 has HDMI and a500 10 inch. Nexus 7 2013 has slimport (newer HDMI through USB) capability. Slim port and mhl plug are only around 10- 30 $ nexus's and Samsung both have USB host and charging at the same time capability (need for DVT support) there is still active development on the old nexus its the one I'd go with. And its pretty easy to solder to the volume and power buttons so u can permently mount in your dash...
HDMI throught usb doesn't do the job for me.
I found only one tablet actually that fills my needs - Chineese PIPO T9.
One thing that sucks, is that it has 4.2.2 and they don't plan on any updates to kitkat.
Aside from that, it has everything needed.
http://www.pipo-store.com/pipo-t9-t...hone-call-tablets-gps-bluetooth-2gb-32gb.html
Separate charging port, mhl-host usb, hdmi, aux, octa-core.
Anyone has better ideas?
In case anyone googling the topic wants to know how I sorted it out in the end:
Bought PIPO M7T tablet (t9 turned out to not have separate hdmi out),
upgraded it with stock rom to 4.4.2.
32 GB MicroSD.
Full HD, even with very high bitrate plays smoothly there.
Has usb otg, hdmi, aux and dc connectors.
Got headphones out connected to aux in my car,
HDMI out heads to hdmi->av converted and goes to car av inputs.
A USB 2.0 4x hub is connected to micro usb, to which I have connected dvb-t tuner, hdmi->av converter power cord and any pendrives I want.
Tablet is constantly connected to external power using DC in.
Works superb, couldn't been better.

[Q] video out of headphone jack S5

Does anyone know if the s5 has video out on the braphone jack like old galaxy s devices?
I need a solution to get composite audio and video to a projector. Projector has DVI / svideo / composite/ VGA.
Any ideas? I have seen mhl to hdmi which are cheap but then I would have to convert to dvi and loose audio and run a separate cable.
No but there is MHL to VGA adapters you can buy from eBay etc.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/400785524940
But that's audio only.
I found thus that might do the trick and doesn't need any external power.

Oh actually just looked again and there's an audio out socket on the aide of the VGA.

Says in the description you get video but you can't get audio out of that using S3/4/5 etc. Probably because of the newer MHL standard.
Perhaps they mean on the older phones? The description says AV cable. The A standing for audio and V standing for video. If it doesn't do audio then the item is not as described. I have just queried this with him. You can't have a title saying AV then in the last line if the small print say doesn't support audio.
Does that mean that the mhl to HDMI doesn't carry audio either?

It means it works with audio and video on older devices using the original MHL, but S3/4/5 etc use MHL2.0 with different pinout and that's why you need an adapter, but maybe something about that RCA cable can't use the audio for whatever reason.
But as long as you use that little adapter you can use any MHL to HDMI with audio.
Just checked my MHL version is 2.1 hopefully they will clear it up. If that is the case can't I just use audio out the headphone jack and video from the mhl phonos? Pain in th ass from a wiring point if view but should still work.

Yeah that'll work but audio quality won't be as good, but I guess it's the only way unless you buy a HDMI to RCA converter, but that means plugging 2 separate adapters into the phone and even more hassle.
Yeah plus I already bought that cable haha.
Your right its a massive hassle, I just gave away my iphone as well which was dead easy to connect via RCA, add that to my unable to swap extSD with inSD on kitkat problem and im starting to wish i hadnt bothered with the S5 now.
just bought Monoprice mhl vga converter which is supposed to be 100% compatible but can't connect... nothing happens,.. no sound, no error, just nothing. installed the Rom with stock kernel (thought that might be an issue (since I was running on Twi5ted Lollipop Rom with a custom kernel... same result, while my wife on her htc one m7 running a custom ROM too had no problem... just connect and enjoy... i'm at a loss... anyone here got an advice? thanx.
Galaxy S5 G900F... stock kernel.
I got an MHL converter in the end as well and it works great, you need to plug your charge cable into it as well at the same time to get it to work.

USB Type C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter

My issue
Hi everyone, I have a Nexus 6P and want to route my audio through a USB type C converter to 3.5mm headphone Jack. I have purchased one online, but it doesn't seem to be working. I have seen that the Moto Z has this adapter and I assumed one I found online would be compatible with my 6P. The reason I want to do this is because I prefer for the AUX jack to come out the bottom of my phone.
What I have tired
Changed 'Select USB Configuration' to all the different options and tried playing music.
Tried 'audio routing' apps from the app store
What I would like to know
Is this because I need to change a setting in my phone to route music out of the USB C?
Do I need to get some kind of DAC to allow support for this?
Has anyone else tried this with their phone?
Thanks

One reason is that to me it makes more sense to put your phone upside down into you pocket. I've always done this at least. So when listening to music I have to put it the other way round. I have also heard the USB C port offers better sound quality.

Re:sound quality, you'd possibly see a quality increase if you use an external Digital to Analogue Converter or fully usb-c headphones. BUT, if you're using a little dongle (if it's possible), then the phone is still managing the analogue conversion and, thus, a very similar quality of audio output. Now I don't know of the 6p's ability to pipe it straight out iPhone 7 style through a dongle, but short of buying a DAC and going whole-hog on an audio upgrade, I'd just flip your phone the other way in your pocket and go the standard route.
Just my $.02
I have been looking for a solution to this too and I seem to have found one. I poked around on Amazon and I think I finally found adapters that work, here's the link https://goo.gl/QT2ith This the only one with positive reviews so when it comes in on the 30th I'll let all of you know.

Looks quite similar to the one that I got. Hopefully it works for you! Let me know how it goes
I read recently that the current implementation of audio over USB-C isn't very efficient or battery friendly. There's a new spec being ratified to provide audio like the iphone can. Hopefully that's a firmware change and not a hardware one.

I don't think it's possible on the 6P, not without using a USB DAC anyway.
As far as I'm aware, the adapter you have is for a USB 3/3.1 interface. While the 6P has USB-C it is USB 2.
I'm able to get audio out of my USB C port, but it's with a USB headset. Haven't tried it with a 3.5mm headphone adapter, but havd no reason to try it either.
This is weird. Because i have a pair of Sennheiser Urbanites (Wireless edition), and i can use bluetooth, aux, and usb (like for a computer) audio. I once tried to turn off the headsets (bluetooth off, aux and usb still works if connected), and turned off bluetooth on my phone. Then i used my USB type C to USB type A Female adapter (from the google store), and connected the usb-cable from the headsets into the type c adapter. it did output audio through the usb-cable.

Bluetooth headphones usually have their own DAC, so the audio for all but the Aux is still being sent through the DAC first, which is supported by older USB standards.
The new USB 3.1 Audio standard can pass through analogue audio from the internal DAC, which is what I believe phones such as the Moto Z utilise. Otherwise the adapter would require it's own DAC, which would make it far larger and more expensive.
Not sure if you will find a good solution at the moment since they just created a standard for audio over usb c http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160927006252/en/USB-IF-Announces-USB-Audio-Device-Class-3.0
Did the amazon converter end up working for you?
My experience so far.
Hi, I ordered some usb c to 3.5mm & out of the box so far they aren't working. I tried Neutron and tried to force the audio to usb but unsuccessfully with phone not recognizing the USB connection.
On the other hand the type C to usb-a adapter worked beautifully using mixplorer. If I get working, will update. Thanks.

Can I boot when charging? Non root? T387 At&t 8.0

Hello all,
I'm trying to install this in my car and need to power on when it's charging.
I have macrodroid and it's asking for root access.
I've looked everywhere and it doesn't seem like there is much support. Anyone have a US rooted Tab A 8.0 T387?
Is it possible to power on while charging without root access?
Thanks in advance!
Sup @hd2 head, wondering if you ever got this working? I'm looking for a tablet car solution and the T387 looks perfect. Did you get it to play nice with everything? thx.
No I just ended up cutting a notch out where the buttons are :-/

I see... Is everything else working fine with Macrodroid? I need a tablet for my e90 bmw with the MOST optical system, but don't want to run a old Nexus 7 like people did 5 years ago. Are you able to charge and play music from USB simultaneously? Do you know if any tablets would support that, either MicroUSB or USB C?
How do you use yours? Just connected to your stereo BT and play music that way? With my 2006 car, that is not an option stock, we must buy a MOST adapter, then we can use BT streaming. I would however like to play music from via USB into the MOST adapter, but would need to use some sort of hub that supplies power to tablet while tablet streams to MOST adapter. From my reading, seems like USB 2.0 is not allowed to do that? Not sure about USB C though.... anyone?
thanks!
My aftermarket head unit has an aux cable input. I'm using that for audio.
I have a macro set to give me the power off option when I take the key out (stop charging)
I routed the car charger to always be charging the tablet when the key is in

What can I use the 3.5mm headphone jack for ? Charging ?

Dear Forum.
Most phones have two physical ports : usb port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The usb can be used for everything but can I use the headphone jack for anything ?
Example :
The best android tv box is for example my old sony xperia z5 with cracked display. As display is cracked i cant use it as phone but the microphone is top notch for voice controlling my tv if connecting to the sony phone mhl usb port to hdmi port in tv. With a bluetooth mouse/keyboard it is actually better than my win10 slaptop for web browsing considering the plethora of android apps. I have discarded both chromecast and a h96 android tv box as my old sony z5 is way better performing and more versatile.
The problem is charging. When using mhl on a usb ver 2 port(micro-usb) it is not possible charging when output video on same port (only powering the mhl to hdmi port via usb charger) so when looking at the phone I see a 3.5mm headphone jack never used for anything. While manufacturers still equipping phones with the 3.5mm jack Im wondering if it can be used for anything ? (Im considering the behaviour of listening to music all day quite tiresome and slightly sociopathic, Im suspecting some people is using this for shutting other people out). I have seen a "smart button" for 3.5mm jack but it doesnt seem to work when reading reviews, temperature probes with cable to long to have inserted all time and led flash lights to big/to bulky having inserted all time. I have seen a usb to 3.5mm jack but it is unclear how this can be used/recognised by android phone.
What I most of all wishes is to be able charging my phone via 3.5mm jack while the mhl/usb port is occupado when used as android tv =0)
Any tips and ideas is highly appreciated, Iam willing to experiment =0)
Kindly Peter.
