[Q] ROM Options for GT-P5113 (U.S., Wifi-only)? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm trying to setup my friend's new Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5113. The device is running 4.0.4 IMM76D.P5113UEBLH3 stock. It's very laggy and not very stable. I'm looking for a new ROM to flash and I thought the stock JellyBean OTA leak would be a good option, but apparently it's for the 3G version (even though say P5113 in the thread ). What is the best TouchWiz-based ROM I can flash on this device that will solve the lag and stability issues? I know that CM or AOKP would probably be much smoother, but my friend enjoys the multi-window functionality built into TouchWiz. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. You can already flash this kernel, you will get rid of the lags.
Or if you want to upgrade to 4.1.1, you can follow this guide.
There's also the cyanogen ROM option, but then you would lose touchwiz and all samsung's drivers and the applications like gallery, mini-apps etc.

Rooting Question for New S3 User

I got my new black verizon s3 yesterday and i love it, buttery smooth. I was coming from a HTC Thunderbolt. I had rooted my thunderbolt, however since rooting that phone, i noticed that data connectivity didnt seem to be as stable as the non rooted version of that phone.
Here is my question, do you guys recommend rooting this S3 phone? Has it effected the data connectivity (dropped signals, etc)? Some advice and direction for this new S3 user would be helpful from some of you all who have been S3 users for a while. Thank you!
I would recommend rooting since there is a lot of support for the device. Data should be fine but there have been some problems either user related mistakes or bugs in a ROM. Those problems are fixable. Most of the ROMs are stable even the 4.2 ROMs.
i rooted and i think its worth it. it is easy to do and pretty low risk. I did mainly because i wanted to under clock and get better battery life. I haven't noticed any issues regarding loss of data or anything. i run into some issues at times because i try different kernals and roms that are not 100% in their stable phase. But the act of rooting itself isn't going to cause you any issues.
thanks guys, i am going to root the phone tonight after work. i browsed thru the rooting instructions for the jellybean update software (which i got when i activated my phone). I just didnt want to run into unstable data connections like i had with my thunderbolt.
Can you guys recommend any good 4.1 Roms as well as 4.2 roms? Also what is the difference between android 4.1 & 4.2?
It depends on the ROM as all 4.2 ROMs as of now are AOSP ROMs while the 4.1 ROMs are either TW based or AOSP based.
TW is ok... better then Sense IMO, however I like the stock ASOP feel. I will give a 4.2 rom a try. can you recommend a popular, 100% working 4.2 ROM? I looked in the dev section and there are so many Roms to choose from........ 24 hours of having my S3 and i LOVE it! so buttery smooth!
Blackbean 7 Is the most stable of the bunch as of now.
Ok. If you are going to root and Rom there are some things you need to know.
Your going to want to unlock your boot loader. And make an imei backup incase you lose it during a flash.
Search those up and get them done and your good to go

Do you mean Cm 10.1? Because if you flashed cm10 you're still on 4.1. Cm10 has a stable release while cm10.1 is still on nightlies. I've been running 10.1 nightlies for about a month and have only noticed very minor issues. So minor I can't even remember what they are.

[Q] Rooting Tab 2 7 (P3110) to remove laggy performance!

Hi guys,
I need help!
I have a tab 2 7.0 P3110, on Android 4.2.2, and it is soooo laggy!
I have taken out all widgets, and uninstalled a lot of apps, but still it is very slow.
Will rooting it help? If so, can someone point me to the instructions to root it, and also which one would be best for me (mostly browsing, reading emails and using some of the widgets. No gaming or anything like that)?
Hoping to turn around my tablet and get a few more years out of it. At the moment, it is almost unusable with the laggy performance.
Thanks!!
Root the device is just getting the administrator permissions only.
However you can flash the new 3rd parties rom like CM11 (which you need the newest CWM recovory)
Or install some apps like greenfiy / auto memory manger from Google Play store.
These should be helpful to your tab to reduce the laggy.
You may also Google these to know more about rooting
Hope these help for you.
Thanks!
I am using greenify and memory management, but it is still not smooth. I feel it us samsung's bloat were which is mainly to blame. Which ROM would be best, as close as possible to the native android image, or perhaps better? Any links for installation would be very appreciated.
We can't tell you which ROM is best for you. Best way is try a few yourself as amny as you can and settle for one which you like the most. I would suggest you to check Samsung Tab 2 Android Development Forum. All Roms are listed there and installation instructions are included in first/second post of each ROM Thread.
I am using SlimKat Rom for last one and half years in my Tab 2. its stable version 8.0 now.

Cogbytes, have you ever tried CM rom (Whatever which version)?
I would like compare the performance between slimkat and CM.
Main difference in CM and SlimKat is features only. Performance is almost same unless you use different kernel (other than stock). I used CM for a few months too. SlimKat interface and tweaks are a bit more satisfactory than CM, but its my opinion only. Its worth to try to SlimKat stable version atleast once.

[Q] Tab 7.7", Best Custom Rom that works with CWM. .....?

Can somebody please suggest on what's the best ROM available. My Tab is 3G and Wifi.
Thank you.

Daniel`s Carbon Rom 4.4.4 is for me the most stable. Although the latest CM12.1 I just installed seems awesome.
Oups, sorry I did not read the title.
To install the best available ROM, you need to install TWRP 2.8.3.1 - p6800 as described in Android Development subforum
Guys, I need some FAQ pn my P6800. I did install some custom ROMs - now have CM12.1 from Daniel. For some reason all of custom roms were (and are) really unstable (frequent reboots, long lasting lags). Compared to stock icecream sandwitch all of them were worse I read some feedbacks and assume that it is my specific issue. So I would like to doublecheck if I do everything right. I have one latest TW recovery, wipe everything and just install the rom from zip. There is no need to flash a dedicated file for kernel (like they have it in sony devices), or something like that, correct?

[Q] GT-N8013 update to 4.4.2 N8010 - Advice Needed

After combing through countless forums and threads on here, it's become apparent that updating to a custom ROM while generally being a good thing still comes with potential problems. On the other hand, I don't really wanna keep my Note on the super old JB ROM that Sammy decided to leave us stuck with.
From all my reading, what I've gathered is that since the N8010 is almost exactly the same as the N8013, you can ALMOST update the N8013 to the N8010 4.4.2 directly but that there are a few fixes that might be need to be flashed to get it perfected, but once those are done everything should work pretty much flawlessly. I'll still be on touchwiz and pretty much just have a Note 10.1 running the KitKat version of software.
I did read (a LOT) in the 3-4 most popular custom ROM forums and it seems that the custom ROMs per usual all have their little kinks... So yes, you get a lot of bonuses like optimized RAM and processing or removal of Touchwiz etc BUT you might have to deal with bugs and odd issues here and there.
For my purposes I'm fine with Stock Samsung Software - just would like the improvements and optimizations of KitKat. That being the case......
QUESTION 1 - Is all of the above correct?
QUESTION 2 - Anyone specifically on a N8013 have awesome bug-free experiences with flashing stock 4.4.2 from N8010
QUESTION 3 - For going from N8013 JB Stock ROM to N8010 KK Stock ROM - What was your process? (I seem to find only threads detailing custom ROMs here - can't find one w/specific instructions on how to update directly to stock 4.4.2 ROM and what to flash/tweak after to make it work the way it should.
QUESTION 4 - Any other tips/thoughts/etc you wanna share.
Thanks guys and gals!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) | ROM Suggestion

Hi guys, I use Android 5.0.1 stock version on my phone, but it uses too much space.
I want to flash a new custom rom, which is lighter, and better than this. I used CyanogenMod but it only has nightly version, and it was not really stable(it still has camera, snapchat, on call problems).
So I am asking if you can suggest me a stable, lightweight and nicely designed(like touchwiz or cm) ROM.
thank you for your time.

You're not the first person to make this mistake, but this is the wrong forum. This forum is for the Galaxy S 4G, a first generation Galaxy S device that was released in 2010. The forum you're looking for is located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/.
There,, you'll find many, many different opinions on what ROM/kernel combination is best, search and read through the threads. Also, since its a Exynos-based device, Custom ROMs are very difficult to make and most will have at least some bugs.
