hello guys I installed cm9 build 9 today after that I used recovery selected 1024 for ext and 0 swap after that remounted script on link2sd and I rebooted but I dont think it worked plz.see
Dude seriously http://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=htc explorer internal memory at least try before creating a thread
been there, many times...
settings would give you the app info installed in internal memory, regardless it is linked to your sd-ext partition or simply residing in internal storage.
open link2sd, menu > storage info.... it shows graphically how much memory of what partition is used up. if under the sd-ext partition it says, "not mounted", then the script was not mounted properly.
you may want to re-do the process.
but, still you may consider what shortyoko has to say...(a bit of research is must, i spent 3 months on researchin )

i already spent 2 and am little tired so i though would do all steps and ask in general
anyway it does nt say not mounted and does link2sd does increase mem in the sys menu thats the storage and i can only see my mem at link2sd if thats the case i guess i did correct and also link2sd doesnt move all apps or does it?
The system partition remains the same. You can't extend it or something. Well, the very idea of increasing internal memory using is that link2sd uses the sd-ext partition to store all the app files, leaving just the app icon & a link to it's corresponding files in the sd-ext part..
Just press hold an app in link2sd > create link > select all 3 options (link apk, link data, link lib files) > then press ok / next (watever it says). If this is succesfull, you will get a msg saying, "app successfully linked to the second partition".
There you go !! All done.

Hi!
I've installed a custom rom with a2sd.
So I create the partition in the SD card... but I've installed less than 16 apps and the phone is already full.
Obviously I move to the SD all the apps that allow it, but it's not enough.
How can I be sure that the A2SD is working properly?
Thanks!
You can check it in terminal emulator using command ' a2sd check ' and see the output.
But there's an easier way using a2sdgui app. You can check, enable/disable a2sd, move app, etc using that gui. Just search it in the market.

Thank you for the app!
When the app starts, the main view says apps are on SD.
But I can see that I've still got 23 free MB on my phone and 472 on my SD... And evertytime I install an app my phone says I'm low on space. But I've got less than 20 apps!!

I haven't used a2sd for a while now, so i can't give you exact steps how to use it. As far as I can remember, first is to make sure you have 2nd primary partition in your sdcard formatted in ext2/ext3/ext4 filesystem and your rom can access it and mount it at boot. Second is to enable a2sd and then move apps to sd.
I did it using terminal, so I didn't have experience using the gui either.
If you still have problems then I suggest visit the a2sd thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715940 . You can ask there and somebody might be able to help you
Hey Guys...i've found a way after lots of research and experiments a way to increase RAM in Micromax A56 (thanks to xda). Unlike most of the devices A56 supports swap default by its stock kernel.
ROOT NEEDED....BUSYBOX NEEDED. !!!
Note - This Mod May/Will Degrade Your SDCARD Life.
Needed Apps - Swapper for root and Swapper2 (Download these from Playstore)
SETTING UP SWAPPER FOR ROOT
1. Click on Active Swap on boot.
2. Set swap file partition to - "SD Card FAT Partition"
3. Enter "512" or "256" in swap file size(in MB).
4. Click Save it will take some time about 2-4 minutes depending upon the swap file size we created. (you can experiment with the swap file size).
SETTING UP SWAPPER2 :-
1. Open Swapper2.
2. U'll see a black screen, click on ads off.
3. Now go to settings, Make sure you have "Run swapper at startup" box checked. Go to swap place and change it to "/sdcard/swap.swp".
4. Now Click on swap size and choose 256mb(you can experiment with the digits).
5. Go to swappiness and set it to 100.
6. Check the boxes "Safe Unmount" and "Safe Remount".
7. Now go to "Advanced Prefrences"-->Check the box "Reformat swap".
8. Leave everything else as it is...Don't touch anything and exit settings come to main screen of swapper2.
NEXT STEP-----> ACTION..!!!!
1. Click on "ON" Button. It will/may show some fails but don't freak out(its normal), Wait untill it shows "All Done!"
3. Now we are done...!!!! Now check ur sdcard, you will see a file named "swap.swp".
4. Now download Advanced Task Killer from the market and kill all the running apps and go and see ur free RAM. You will see more RAM free than usual. But in actual u have more than that cuz we just created a swap in our SDCARD.
NOW you can play Games which require heavy ram usage ( I love that..!!!) Like Temple Run, Asphalt 6, etc. Some games may still show little lags.
If you want more performance while gaming, download Chainfire3D and All its plugins and play.
If this helped you Click THANKS to help me.
This method can work for other devices too...TRY and SEE...!!!
Test post.
Hope now its visible to other members also.

Hi, I have finally managed to root the A56. Installed the Swapper for Root & the Swapper2 apps from PlayStore.
When I open SfR and select the option 'Active Swap on Boot', there is no option for SD Card FAT Partition. It just comes up blank.
I have created a secondary partition on the SD card using the Mini Home Partition tool as FAT32.
What am I doing wrong??

ur sdcard shud be of FAT filesystem
Does the microSD need to be FAT16 or FAT32??
The microSD has been formatted as FAT32. Does swapper need a new partition to work on as apps2SD does? Or will it work on the default partition?
Mine is working on FAT filesystem...can also work on fat32 no new partition needed.

how much ram do you get after doing this
in running services it shows 40-50mb ram...
it does not show more ram but it is usex when an app which requires more ram is launched.
if u dont understand this clearly...read the true meaning of swapping...on xda or on wikipedia.

I was using link2sd with a 1gb FAT32 partition ...
I linked all the apps ..
Everything was working fine ... But today when I restarted my phone my internal memory has gone down to 3 mb ...
Also link2sd is not getting the superuser permission ...
or may be there is a problem in superuser app ?
Can anyone tell wtf just happened with me ...
I've had this before. Usually leaving the phone alone for about 10 minutes will fix the problem. If internal memory is still low after that amount of time, Link2SD should at least function, and you can load it and press menu then tap "more" then "relink library files". That should free up a lot of space again.
Yes relink apps will work...it happens if you have a lot of apps installed...better go with scripts

I'm very confident that the above solutions will not work as i've tried all solution like these to make Link2SD work on two different hTC Explorers. I have used Link2SD on other devices and it works flawlessly, but for some reason on explorer i have always faced reduction in shown free internal memory when i go on installing apps.
This is not limited to Link2SD, but happens with any script that uses symlinks (like a2sd supported by jaggyRom etc). Plus a2sd is terribly unstable and will surely produce errors in the long run.
The only working solution will thus be: To use a script that mounts sd-ext to /data, thus eliminating the need for symlinks (like d2ext, int2ext, mount2sd etc). I've written a few tutorials which might help you:
Take a look here and here.
Remember, you hit thanks if i helped :good::good:
But d2ext uses symlinks.
No d2ext does not use symlinks. It mounts the sd-ext as data ,thus eliminating the need of symlinks

Ok so I installed hercolubus ROM and after doing that i read him instructing how to enable Hybrid2SD...while on kyrillos also i read about the same but didn't care much but now i really wanna kno what it is..
M srry for asking such noob question but i tried searching everywhere...
Check the G3MOD thread. It should tell you there or just search the question because I know for a fact it has been asked many times. The answers are always on the forums. You just have to find them

In G3Mod they talk about data2sd...is it same?
When I go to CWM it already shows the option to partiiton the SD card...so y do H2SD?
at least tell me if should I do it if I have a class 4 sdcard?
coz for data2sd it was written u should have class 6....

No.
Its not necessary.
But the speed will definitely slow down.
I used HybridData2SD and my phone used to lag for around 2 minutes after installing an app.

Actually I'm using a class 2 SD card but my phone is just as fast with Hybrid data2sd on and with it off. To answer OP's question Hybrid data2sd is a way for you to get more space for apps I'm not sure how it works but it just does. To enable just make a partition using CWM and to check if it's working use Titanium backup it'll tell you how much free space you have.

I will try to explain in simple lang....
On android OS, users applications and data is stored in /data folder (partition) in internal memory. Since g3 have less memory, it has restrictions on how many apps you can install and blah blah...
So out greate developers do a trick to increase internal memory.
When we have partitioned SD card, there in new partition, they create a similar folder stucture of /data. and link internal memorys /data to point to sd card data folder. This link is similar to a shortcut. Android OS thinks that the /data folder is there in internal memory and it reads and writes to it but actually that data goes to sd-ext partition and thus the size of internal memory dose not increases as you install apps. This is Data2SD
/data has many folder...majorly for app (/data/app) and for dalvic cache (/data/data). If you are not mounting entire /data to sd-ext, but selectively mapping each folder you want to sd-ext, then this is called HybridData2SD. For ex, I prefer app dir (/data/app) to be mounted on sd-ext but not the cache (/data/data). Cache should be on phone as its accessed so much and makes my phone lag If i put it on sd-ext.
hope this clears the concept.
(Thanks to OP for giving me chance to write my 100th post)

Sure.
If you are on G3mod, things are made very simple using kmapp. Search XDA about it. its a application which will do it for you.
For fugumod, its quiet difficult....(you may need to create some files on sd card ot edit script in init.d)
Otherwises, use Link2SD application. its free, availabel on market. It will do task even on granular level - on each app level. You can select app and choose option 'create link', it will give you option to link app, cache, lib files. select app only. that's it. its my favorite currently.

Data2sd = Entire /data folder mapped to sd-ext. so every app you install, its apk will definitely go to sd-ext. Also /data/data folder (that is where user data is stored) and also davlic cache folder is automatilly mapped to sd-ext.
link2sd = Manually select which app's apk file ( and dex, lib also) to go to sd-ext. You have more control here, not every app goes to sd-ext.

data2sd will create shortcut to all..everything inside /data folder
for e.g. /data/app, /data/cache, /data/lib, etc
hybrid2sd is selecting what part of the app will reside in sdcard for e.g. /data/app (u don't want /data/lib and /data/cache,etc )
link2sd...is first of all an app...in this you can select a single app and then decide which folder will reside in sdcard for e.g. /data/app (u don't want /data/lib and /data/cache,etc )
basically link2sd is similar to hybrid2sd but its an app
Its all written up there

I guess so...yes...
Hello,
With the limited space on Optimus One I decided to try out Link2SD app. I was able to partition my SD card and Link2SD created the script. After reboot I tried linking some of my apps to SD (EasyMoney, Solid Explorer Beta2, Swype Installer and Swype). The first app (Solid Explorer) linked the app file, and delvic cache fine. Every app after that game me error: "Failure. mkdir failed for /data/sdext2/dalvic-cache, File Exists". Also, when I filter it to show only the linked apps even the first app isn't listed.
If I move only the app file it is successful, but every app force closes. Rebooting the phone simply forgets that I even had the applications installed (even after quick reboot). Finally removing the link does absolutely nothing. My guess is that the app never properly linked apps in the first place resulting in the app going into a 'limbo'. Now I have used some space in my SD partition and can't use the app or reclaim the space.
I am new to all this, but am researching what my fault is. Can someone point to what am I doing wrong? How do I get link2SD to simply move my apps to the partition to free up my internal space.
In a nutshell:
1. First app successfully moved, but link2SD still shows no apps are listed. Subsequent apps cannot be moved since dalvic-cache folder (or file) already exists).
2.. Moving only the app data results in FC. Rebooting results apps disappearing with no way to reclaim the used space.
How did you partition your SD card, and how is it formatted? Any other partitions on the card?
The SD card currently has two FAT32 partitions, both set as primary. Partitioned is using Minitool Partition Wizard.
Typically, the 2nd partition is formatted as ext2/3/4. If for some reason you need both partitions to be FAT, there's a setting in link2sd where you can specify that the 2nd partition is FAT. This is important because link2sd makes a script which is run when you boot up your phone, which mounts the partitions appropriately.
sorry if Out Of topic.

If you have second partition on SD the Link2SD moves apps to sd-ext.
When starting the first time, make sure to select the correct filesystem. CWM makes ext4 I think..
If you are already by that with incorrect partition, go Options=>More=>Recreate mount scripts.
I recommend to activate Auto Link in settings to have no need to worry about apps being linked.
I think that's all what you need, if you are basic. I have done that too.
