Guys could you please help me out in s-off-ing and rooting my Desire S running Official ICS with sense 3.6.....i kinda hate it as it is very bulky and laggy....So could you please help me out in this....
Well to be frank I am totally a noob i.e. a very very newbie..
All I know that my Desire S runs ICS with Sense 3.6 and Its S-ON and it also shows **LOCKED** in the bootloader..
Its HBOOT version is 2.02.0002
Could anyone please please tell me step by step by step how to root it....

wrong section to ask.questions go to Q&A.most important rule of xda is to search and read up.there is a tutorial to downgrade and root on ics in the Q&A section.

Hii guys..
I am new to this forum.
I need to root my HTC DESIRE HD (gingerbread), with s/w number 2.37.720.3.
But I have learnt from many other sites and other threads in this forum that
Desire HD must be downgraded first.
There are ways to downgrade for s/w number 2.36.XX.X, but couldn't find any for 2.37.
Hope some one kind enough could help me out.

I would say, HTCdev unlocking seemed easier than downgrading hboot, but it's merely my opinion.
Yes you can. I(and many others) unloced my phone with HTCdev, then rooted and installed custom ROM. Now I have lowwelds Reaper ROM and its awesome!
Only different thing is that you need to flash boot.img with fastboot.
can you link me to good thread how to root my phone?
I also want to ask if i can put the stock ROM from the HTC site after that ?
so i will have rooted phone with stock ROM of HTC SENSE ?

Hello, firstly I am an amateur at this and I'm asking for anyone to help me update from ICS to Jelly Bean on my HTC Desire S handset. I upgraded to ICS from the HTC Dev website. Today I was trying to root the handset in recovery mode at the top I had "Locked" below the other sub menus. Is there a way that I can upgrade to Jelly Bean from ICS. I would need a step by step as my phone is not rooted either.

take your time to read up try to root it first.

that's the problem i'm having when i go into recovery mode i get in red writing "LOCKED" ?? Not sure i can root because of this

Go to htcdev.com..Unlock your bootloader from there..it has step by step procedure to follow..after unlocking bootloader intall any recovery.img and then download your choice of rom.zip u want to install and put it in ur sd card..Wipe ur handset and install .zip from sd card in recovery mode....
