I tried something like that last night, and couldn't get it working. Doesn't have to be ftp even. Honestly, the reason I dual booted with Ubuntu was I was hoping to be able to access all partitions. Like ones windows can't see

okay so im on ubuntu 11.10 and cannot get heimdall one click unbrick is not recognising soft brick should im not entirely sure whzt to do because ubuntu wont recognise
Was Ubuntu recognizing your phone before or did you just install Ubuntu to see if you could use the one-click?
well i had ubuntu before hand and yes it recognised it but i only ever connected it to ubuntu one time before this didnt do anything special just trying to 1click unbrick like u said because windows wont see my phone either except as a "USB unrecognised" so not entierly sure what to do ive tried sevral drivers Zedig always says it Failed to install the drivers which is a more recent development it didnt do that before it says resorces already exist
I've only used Ubuntu on rare occasion. I was thinking that with some distributions you have to give permissions on the USB devices before you're allowed to access them. I struggle to think Ubuntu is that way as it's generally user-friendly.
Maybe try grabbing a Live CD of Fedora or SuSE and see if it works?
http://goo.im/devs/zanzibar/LiveCD/PHtoolz-QND.iso this is what im going to use its supposedly set up for phones and stuff like that
okay so that dont work i dont know what to do im on the verge of giving up if anybody out their can help me please do i would like my phone back otherwise i will have to go get a new phone
Do you only have the Linux box? If you have a Windows box or are dual-booting, then you should be able to Heimdall one-click from within Windows.
i am dual booting windows tells me USB not recognised and Heimdall always fails on driver installation
So, i have Android Debugging enabled on my device, and when i connect it to a pc over usb, it reports that android debugging is on. But my pc (tried on many machines at this point) wont see the device. If i issue an "adb devices" i get nothing in the list. I've tried restarting adb, no help.
The tablet is a TF101, running CM9 nightly 6/13, but it was having the same problem on a rooted stock .17.. i think it was, that i was runinng, and on two other cusom roms.
Is there some low-level change i may have made at some point that might have killed off adb?
Thanks.
Have you tried reflashing the kernel? That might magically fix it, otherwise try it on a linux box/something that doesn't need drivers.
I have the same problem and I have tried absolutely everything within my scope of knowledge including every rom available, all kernels, different computers with various os, different cables, even mounting as usb in cwm. The reason I tried so hard was to downgrade to Honeycomb is because the bluetooth in ics is horrible.(tons of disconnects and constantly oos). Finally I switched with my son and nvflashed Honeycomb on his.
If anyone can think of why my tab can't connect please let me know.

If you are using Windows, you need to install USB driver for adb to work:

[EDIT] Just to avoid confusion, I have the 9023 model [EDIT]
So I've tried all the unbricking methods I could find via Google.
Tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447040
The adam tool doesn't work and Odin doesn't see the phone regardless of what state it's in.
Here are the only two screens I can get on the thing. If I allow it to boot into Android it just starts having to force close everything until it reboots.
It does get detected by my computers (tried to rule out computer's USB ports), but only with the little audio notification you get when a device is connected. Windows has the SDK installed with USB drivers as does my Linux drive. I've tried basically everything I can think of short of tossing it in a blender.
Any ideas?
If it at least boots to those screens, tries to boot into Android, and gives me an audio notification for USB connectivity, I figured someone might have insight as to whether or not it's fixable.
Otherwise it goes in the trash.

if your fastboot mode works just fine, u will be successful
It just says device not found (and yes I'm in the right directory) or if I skip the adb reboot and go straight to fastboot flash, it says "< waiting for device >"
I hear the sound the plays when something connects via USB and then also a quick 3 tone sound of the same note.

That didn't work either.
When I the phone is in recovery mode and I plug it into my computer I hear the USB sound notification but nothing shows up on my computer. It doesn't list as a disk or anything.
No idea where to go from here. I went into diskpart and it doesn't list it either.
It's weird that I get the USB sound notification from the computer but it can't show the device to me.....

Oh jeez that would suck.
I was thinking of buying a JTAG setup or whatever it's called. There's some polish site there that delivers in the EU. I just don't know what all parts I need for a Nexus S. There's a YouTube video by the company showing them resetting a Nexus S but they don't list the part numbers or tell us what the parts are, which is kind of annotying. So I'm trying to go through their website and add all the parts that seem right from the description/picture. I figured having the JTAG parts would be good for any other of my phones in the future (assuming they're compatible)
Anyone know what JTAG parts I would need? Here's the website and they have an English version.

What did u do to you phone to get in into that kind of state?

Hi,
The title pretty much sums it all, it won't connect at all. Driver or no driver, oem cable or not and stock rom or not. Can't even ADB in...
But ! It does work on my laptop (without drivers), so it's not a faulty device.
Anyone have any idea ?
*Edit: Both my laptop and desktop computers are running Win 8.1

It's the fingerprint security blocking access to the S6's data, you have to unlock screen on the S6 and your Windows will see the drive

Okayyyyyyyy, i figured it out... So i was trying your method, installing SmartSwitch, and it wouldn't install because i didn't have the "Media Feature Pack". Because i'am running Windows 8.1 N on my desktop pc.
So i installed that media bull**** pack and then !!!! Miracle, it worked ! Didn't even need smartswitch. And if you are asking yourselves why is it working on my laptop, well the answer is very simple. My laptop is running a standard version of Windows 8.1... It actually make perfect sense the S6 only connects in PTP or MTP, which are both multimedia "modes". And i still can't adb into the device, must be coming from somethings else !
Anyway thanks to everyone for your help !
