Downloading an app to sd instead of internal memory before installation - General Questions and Answers

The question is pretty straightforward. Whenever you download an app from the market, it gets downloaded on to the internal memory 1st & then gets installed. If I've set the setInstallLocation to 2 via adb, it gets installed to sd. The problem here is that even though the app is installed directly to sd, its initially downloaded onto internal memory. My internal memory is low & doesn't allow me to download huge apps. I had to install games like Nova by downloading apks from the net using Opera browser & then install it. I can't do this for Market apps however. So, how do I make an app to download as well as install on sd?

[Q] where applications are located

After installing android applications (tools, utilities, games) on my Samsung Gaqlaxy Fit I realized that some apps are installed on phone and other on SDcard.
This automatic selection depends on what?
There is one more strange thing: some utilities like Rom Toolbox offer possibility to move apps from phone to SDcard, but when I tried to do so nothing has happened.
Those apps which previously were installed on the phone they remain there , means they were not moved to SDcard.
What is the advantage or disadvantage of installing apps on Sdcard instead of installing them on the phone?
Thanks a lot for your answer.

installling is on sd card means to save more space for phone memory
and disadvantage is when u start phone it take time to read more
and when u connct via usb all the apps on sd card wont work so dont move root apps or launcher to sd card overall its safe nor problm u can use more app
You cannot move root apps (Superuser, etc.) to SD.
Advantage of moving apps to SD is to save more space on your Phone memory.
Disadvantage is widgets of the apps that you moved to SD will be unresponsive.
I understood everything you wrote, but still I have no idea why even some games that was installed on phone can't be moved to SDcard (to save phone memory).
It's more logical to me for some system applications, but games.....??????
Do you know the answer?

Try using Titanium Backup to move all your games to SD card just long press the game/app that is using the phone memory and choose move to SD card.
You can find the Titanium Backup on the Android Market and it's Free!

Free up internal memory

With the lack of apps2sd, my Sero 7 Pro was quickly running out of internal memory. I used ES File Explorer to look around in my device to see if I could delete anything. What I found was everything I downloaded or installed was being saved in a folder called Downloads on my internal card. I created a download folder on my external card and moved all the files. I went from about 500MB free internal to about 3GB free internal.
Now, my question, is there a setting somewhere that will make all downloads default to the external card?

yes you can
use download manager their are many download managers are availble on playstore you can download them directly.. if you are using browser apart from stock or chrome you will find setting to change download directory..

Insufficient storage available.

Hi,
I have an Android device. I bought it from our local cellphone shop, a Cherry Mobile phone. name of the unit is Jelly. Its Android Version used was 4.2.2. I have 165mb of internal storage(17.88mb available) and 14.87GB(13.28GB available) of SD card. I've rooted it using FramaRoot. I'm getting this error when I download or install an application using Playstore and APK installer.
"Error downloading. Insufficient storage available".
I tried clearing the cache. I've put it's Preffered install location to "SD card". Default Write Disk to "SD card" . But nothing worked! I really need help!
I cant download anything! I tried to download Link2SD(a 3mb file) to fix but nothing! I've tried installing Lucky Patcher apk. but it said "Insufficient ....................." .. How do I fix this?
I also noticed this when I was running out of storage, even though there was enough space for apps.
Try deleting some more data in your internal storage, not the SD card, and it should work again.
Basically, if u download an apps from the Play Store, the apps will be stored first in the internal storage. After that it will automatically moved to SD Card if u have root and set ur device.
Does the app which u want to download larger than the available internal storage?
If that so, u should free some memory in ur device.
Otherwise, u could try to enlarge the internal storage of ur device, try to find it in other part of this forum corresponding to your device.
17MB internal is the problem. It can't download an app directly to the SD, it has to pass through the internal memory first.
Clear some space on the internal memory.
Also, try dialing *#9900# and clicking on 'delete dumpstate/logcat'. Might give you a few more MB's.

Lenovo Tab 2 a7-10F storage issue

Hi, I have a lenovo Tab 2 a7-10F (running on Android Kitkat 4.4.2). After installing some apps on the device I have now encountered a storage problem. Everytime I try to download anything from Google Play it just gives me an "insufficient storage available" error. I have about 490MB of free storage on my tab right now but I still cannot install any app in it. When I download apps from other markets like Aptoide, they install perfectly but Google Play refuses to install or even update any app - no matter how small- unless I free up more than 500MB of space. I cannot move apps to my 16GB external SD card as the device has an 'emulated' storage and does not read obb files stored on my external SD. The following are the steps I've tried so far-
1. Cleared cache, data and updates of Google Play, Google Service Framework, Google Play Service, Download manager
2. Removing and re-adding my account
3. Using different Google IDs to download
4. Using apps like Obb2SD, Obb on SD, link2SD etc to try move the heavy obb files from emulated storage to the actual external SD in order to free up space
But none of them have worked so far. So I'm stuck with 490MB of free space on my device and yet I cannot update even a 2MB app. The problem is not with my Google ID or Network as I used them to download apps on my phone as well and they installed even when space is running as low as only 100MB. Can anyone suggest a solution for this? How can I get rid of this error/move apps to External SD and free up space? Thanks.
Can anyone alteast tell me if its possible at all to move apps to external SD on emulated storage?
same issue with me
Want to move apps to sd card.

More memory on Android 4.4.4?

Hi everybody, I have root access on my phone but I still can't install on SD. I've read that Kit Kat has a bug that impedes the correct use of the SD card. I tried a solution I've seen on this forum about installing big games on SD but I'd like to just transfer some apps I have like Chrome, for example. It takes up more than 100MB.
Do you know of any way of getting this done?
As u have root access, you can use app like link2sd, it can move any app to external sd, but use it wisely, moving some system app can cause FC..
Also u can use xposed framework and install the module named "kitkat sd card full access" which will solve the android 4.4.4's write issue to sd card..
I've installed the module and rebooted my phone but if I try to set the default install location to the SD card it doesn't change. I use ROM toolbox lite that gives you the possibility to change it using Apps2SD but I can only leave it to "Auto".
