After installing android applications (tools, utilities, games) on my Samsung Gaqlaxy Fit I realized that some apps are installed on phone and other on SDcard.
This automatic selection depends on what?
There is one more strange thing: some utilities like Rom Toolbox offer possibility to move apps from phone to SDcard, but when I tried to do so nothing has happened.
Those apps which previously were installed on the phone they remain there , means they were not moved to SDcard.
What is the advantage or disadvantage of installing apps on Sdcard instead of installing them on the phone?
Thanks a lot for your answer.

installling is on sd card means to save more space for phone memory
and disadvantage is when u start phone it take time to read more
and when u connct via usb all the apps on sd card wont work so dont move root apps or launcher to sd card overall its safe nor problm u can use more app
You cannot move root apps (Superuser, etc.) to SD.
Advantage of moving apps to SD is to save more space on your Phone memory.
Disadvantage is widgets of the apps that you moved to SD will be unresponsive.
I understood everything you wrote, but still I have no idea why even some games that was installed on phone can't be moved to SDcard (to save phone memory).
It's more logical to me for some system applications, but games.....??????
Do you know the answer?

Try using Titanium Backup to move all your games to SD card just long press the game/app that is using the phone memory and choose move to SD card.
You can find the Titanium Backup on the Android Market and it's Free!

Hi all,
I'm not sure if this has been asked before.
I'm using Virtuous Unity 1.31. Let say I have several apps installed and I move them (via manage applications) to the SD card. All works fine.
Let's say a new version comes out and I flash the new ROM, doing a full data and cache wipe in the process.
When I re-install all the apps, they'll be installed in the phone memory by default, and not the SD card. Does this mean that the app data on the SD card from the previous install is redundant, since the OS will presumably recognise the app in the phone memory. Is there any way to determine which apps were moved to the SD card and subsequently, free up the space?
Cheers,
Bump?
Any one with any ideas? Or is my original post confusing? ;p

Correct me if i'm wrong, but your problem is that you want to restore your data app from sd card and your are not sure cause they are already in phone memory? Or something different ? Because if you only want to put your apps from phone storage in sd-card again you can do it, you'll overwrite the older same apps..
You can try the app in my signature (SD Maid) to free up space.

Hanisa, my problem is that before I flash a new ROM, I usually do a wipe, which means when the new ROM is flashed in, it'll be "as stock" without any of my apps.
When I restore all my apps, either using Titanium Backup or the Android Marketplace, they'll be installed into the phone memory by default.
If for example I have Minisquadron installed and moved to the SD card before the wipe, when I re-install it, it will be in the phone memory by default. This means the data already on the SD card (before the wipe) is just wasted space.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot and see if it works for me.
Hi all XDA Folk...
I am wondering if there is a easy way to use the sd card as storage, I know you cant use the old app2sd applications you get from the market and you can use directory bind to do something similar.....but is there an easy way or better way to do it?
I found this post and wondering if this would work on the tab 7.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668247
Please could someone shed some light on this, thank you
I used directory bind once and it was not clear, moved the files and all and got a message when opening games....(Download data) so the data had not moved correctly or I could be doing something wrong.
Thanks Again!
and what purpose would it serve? This isn't like the HTC hero/magic (or some pre 1ghz) devices anymore
I want to know also if there is a method to move apps to sd, my 16gb p6800 soon to running out of internal space.

Sad to say you cant... If you go to settings>applications>manage application>click on one of the apps you want to move on the sd card ull notice only 3 options... Force stop, uninstall, clear data... No option for Move to phone/sd card. Why? As far as I know for a certain apps to function you need to keep it stored in the tabs internal memory and not on the sd card just to save space... Try installing games thats requiring you to download additional sd data like nova 3 after downloading the game data try to move it on the sd card and launch the app again and itll ask you to download the sd data again..
Hope this help..
P.s. Correct me if im mistaken..
Apparently app2sd doesn't work on our tablet, I am using link2sd instead.
I've rooted and installed gapps onto my kids Nabi 2 tablet that he got for Christmas, I just got a 32GB MicroSD card so I can move all apps to the SD card and use the SD card for apps so I don't run out of internal memory. I don't see how to move the Apps to the SD card, can someone tell me how to do this or if it's possible? I did a little research on this and it looks like there might be an app that does this, but I'm not too familiar with it. You used to be able to just go into to manage your apps and select move to SD.
I tried posting to the root instructions thread but apparently I'm too new to post ona developers thread. Thanks for any info.
Anybody have an answer??

Thanks for the reply, is that the only way to move apps over to an external SD card nowadays is using a 3rd party app?
It was so nice before to just go into the Apps section within settings and move choose "Move to SD".

Not on the current configuration it doesn't. Nabi2 has been updated to Android 4.1.1, with Gapps, and I think the dunderheads at Fuhu went out of their way to make sure you couldn't get extra space on their P.o.S. tablet.
I'm on the latest kitkat version rooted on my Shield Tablet and am trying to get a working app to move my apps to the sd card. I've tried link2sd (requires partitioning?), apps2sd, and sd fix. I can't seem to get the apps to fully move to the sd card, just the app data...
Is there a way to move the entire app to the sd card? I tried lollipop and hated it, so downgraded back to kitkat.

FolderMount. I use it for games. You can move the Data and the obb files to the SD. You can also make backups in case you factory reset or move to another ROM.

I second FolderMount, with the caveat that it takes a small amount of work per app... And that lollipop doesn't recognize that the space is now free. My NST now thinks that I'm using 50gb out of my 26gb I should have. Lol.

Okay, I'll give it a try. If I upgraded to lollipop would the new os put the apps on the SD card or would I still need FolderMount?
Hey all,
Does the Z3 support installing every app fully to the SD card? I ask because 16gb seems a bit limiting if you can't fully use the SD card.
I just came here to ask the same question. In Kitkat 4.4.4 (and maybe other versions?) the 'Move to SD' is disabled/not there and it is up to the phone manufacturer to enable/add it. There is no option in settings on the Z3 to move app data to your SD card. It is very easy to enable apps to be able to use the SD card, either manually or using an app such as SDFix (but you will need to be rooted).
Here are some questions I would like answered if anyone knows:
There are folders on the SD card for most apps in /Android/data/ for example, 'com.microsoft.skydrive'. That same folder is also in the same place (/Android/data/) on the phones memory and contains data for the app. Can that just be moved with a file explorer to the SD card? If so are there any other steps to take?
Is there an app to automate moving data or a way to add the button in settings, apps?
Cheers
Wait till 5 ! It's was disabled is kk
You can use FolderMount to transfer game data to external storage (sdcard)
I use it and it is really essential to me
installed 4 big games
