No Calls on Wifi - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey guys.....
I have an issue with a phone that maybe you all can help with.
This is my second phone doing the same thing the last one was doing.
(yes I've searched)
So occasionally while connected to wifi I dont receive any calls, texts, or emails until I pick up and use my phone for something.
Just now when I picked up my phone to check the weather at 6:30pm and I got 4 text messages, 1 VM and 2 emails all ranging back to around the last time I used my phone. (5:45ish)
This is really irritating as I have missed some important calls lately and it really pisses off my wife...lol...she assumes I'm gaming and ignoring her.
I remember reading somewhere that this phone has issues with going to sleep and Smart Sync.
Specs:
ATT
HTC One XL
ViperXL 2.4.1 (it does this on the stock rom as well)
ViperXL kernel
Thanks for any and all help!!!

I seem to have had similar issues except it was doing it off WiFi. They way I started noticing it was I set my weather to update every hour and I would find it would be 4 hours ago last udate. I also noticed texts coming out of order and calls going to vmail without ringing. I played around flashing different radios ,roms and even changed sim card multiple times. I came to the obvious conclusion that it was actually att issue. I live in a rural area where I get H+ but no LTE. I suspect that the tower cell fills up then puts active calls and data priority. I had atrix before my hox and it did same thing. Its really annoying. So I find myself rebooting phone and it solves issue at least for couple hours.

Im having the same issues. Started a thread about a month ago. Im on my second phone as well. Had AT&T reset something on their end, did an RUU, factory reset, wiped caches and data...nothing. I really believe it's an AT&T issue.

I don't think it's an issue with Att.
I just got a the email for this, it is an hour and a half late. I am connected to Wi-Fi and my phone is set to "smart sync".
If this was an ATT issue then why didn't I get my email?
The phone receiving emails while on Wi-Fi has nothing to do with ATT.

I also have the same problem. On Christmas I sent out a mass text to people and never got any responses. Then about 12hrs after I sent a message to someone else and got 100+ texts and 3 vms. It was ridiculous. I'm on ATT and running Nocturnal Dirty ROM. But it also did it on other ROMs. I would love to know what causes this problem and how to fix it...

Duplicate text messages being received by people on AT&T Network

I am having an issue where people on the AT&T network are telling me when I send txts they are receiving a significant portion of the messages twice. Is this a verizon issue or a phone issue?
I am running DAS Bamf remix 1.7.
If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.
Okay I just was told by someone on Verizon they are receiving duplicate txts as well. Any suggestions, I am using the default SMS msging app that comes with sense.
i've had it happen to people off and on over the years, so I would hope that its not a phone issue.
problem is today its happened a ton of times so I am getting concerned they had me pull my sim card which made no difference
Do you think I should unroot back to stock before calling again?
I reverted back to stock and havent had a issue yet, wonder why
yeah ive had this happen to me rarely, but i dont think its because of the phone, my theory is that its the network just doing it randomly, but thats just my thought
Even at 100% stock it still did it.
I am going to call them up again. I think its random too cause some days it doesnt happen I am being told by my friends.
did that to me the other day as well. Stock, not rooted thunderbolt. I think its a verizon problem.
Happens to me to like every too months.....

this has happened to me for years off and on. that I know of there's nothing you can do about it.

Anyone have this happen?

So a couple of times my phone won't let me make calls. It tries connect and then does a short beep. I have to do a airplane no airplane mode to get it.to make.calls again.

It happens to me couple times too ... too bad my 30 days return expired.. Planning to go through warranty center now ... It's kind of annoying because it happens kind of randomly
I have this same issue. They swapped the sim card so I'm going to see if that fixes the problem.
Is it a phone or network problem? On my third phone

I just got my sim swapped, and it still happens.. It looks like phone because my phone has full signals while it happens. It usually happens after long charge

I believe it's a software issue. HTC issued a statement regarding the WiFi issue, that until you get the OTA fix, you need to turn WiFi off and on again to deal with the bug. I haven't had the issue with phone calls that you're having, but I have had the phone drop the mobile data connection completely, or sometimes get locked to EDGE. The Airplane off/on trick fixes it, so I suspect it's similar to the WiFi bug.
If you can put up with it for now, it'll surely be fixed with an update before too long.
Good. Just wondering because everything else on this.phone is good. Ty

I had problems at first just losing data and then finally after much time spent trying things with Rogers I lost all connection. Unable to make calls, no data, no signal. Got new one sent and so far so good for 5 days now.
Never lost data on this one bit had the no calls yesterday. None today. Maybe it will be ok. Someone said it.may be fixed. Just don't want to have to return the phone again.

Is a fix on its way?
I had this happen to me two days ago. The status bar indicated that I had a good connection and I was able to send and receive emails and use the web browser, but I couldn't send/receive texts or phone calls. After a restart, I had two voicemails and a few text messages (from an irritated wife!). I had been trying to make calls and send texts when she was calling and sending texts, so I wasn't just missing notifications.
Any word on whether this I a software or hardware problem? I still have some time before my 30 days is up and I tempted to go back to an iPhone if there is no fix.
I hope HTC releases an OTA soon...
This sounds like a network problem to me. In high traffic areas where cellular towers are overloaded , ATT service literally stops working. My entire trip to NYC I had no working service in Manhattan for this reason, and every professional sporting event I've ever been too the same problem has occured.
The "bars" were always good, but no texts or calls could be placed or received.
This happened on my a777, solstice, HTC aria, and Infuse
Seems like a reasonable explanation, except it has never happened before and was fixed as soon as I restarted the phone.
This happens to me EVERY time I am in an area with no (or really poor) service for an extended period of time, one of my classes doesn't get service because of the location of the building.. I've already gotten a sim swap and had my device swapped, it still does the exact same thing, only way to reconnect is by restarting the phone or turning airplane mode on or off. Hopefully it's not a widespread hardware issue and just a software issue that HTC can fix. Only problem is that AT&T has a history of taking FOREVER to get out an update that a manufacturer releases.
Oh and this never happened on my Xperia X10, even in the same class where I lose service.

So frustrated, about to return One X but seeking advice

All,
I have had the One X for just over a week now. Three times, I have had to hard reset the phone because it stops receiving / making calls, and data stops.
I tried searching the forums but it seems like issues are all over the board and couldn't really find something that was exactly my issue. If there is one, I apologize for the duplicate post.
Regardless, when the phone is in this state, it appears like everything is working. It shows I have great signal, the little 4G icon is there, indicating that everything is working.
Anyone else have this problem or could I possibly just have a bad unit? AT&T already swapped out the SIM card thinking that might fix it, but no luck.

I think you should swap out the phone as bad before returning it if that's the only issue you're having. mine seems flawless in that regard. I haven't missed or dropped a single call.

I don't recall ever having that problem. Mine was pretty random too, in fact it got so bad yesterday that I missed several important calls.
If I would restart the phone, I would get all my missed text messages and the voicemail (google voice) would tell me I have messages waiting..

My X started out ok, but these last couple of days I have NO signal anywhere. Also SMS/MMS is barely working. (and when it does, people are getting multiples) And its dropping pretty much every single call.
I just called my corp store, they have plenty in stock. I'm going to go exchange it. Should I ask for a new SIM also?
And my screen is perfect, here's hoping I get another good one...

However, AT&T's LTE phones are notorious for connection problems on non-LTE market. These LTE phones use a new APN called pta. I just had the same problem while traveling through PA yesterday. Lost data connections many times and had to reboot the phone at the end of the day to regain data connection of any kind.
So, it is AT&T's service and also the phone firmware that can't properly handle the fact that it can't receive any LTE signal in certain areas.

return it and get another phone, besides the One X, it's all hype anyway. The HTC vivid is a much more solid phone.
I had almost the same issue. My device was on wifi and would at random times just stop pulling data. Or at time just not make calls. I tried trouble shooting it but I was basically told since I didn't have it long I should get it replaced. I replaced it and the new device is perfect. I have not once had that issue again.

Who said I'm going to reture it. OneX, regardless all its problems is still way better than any alternatives AT&T have. There is no such thing as problem free Android phones. I've being many of them. They all have problems one way or another. Vivid with its ancient S3 CPU and SD screen just plain sucked. My SGS2 can kick its butt.
For me the form factor of One X, LTE speed, S4 processor and HD screen are the main things I pick One X over any other phones available on AT&T. These software bugs will be corrected overtime.
I just came back from my store. They had plenty in stock but said when that runs out, they have no idea when they will see anymore.
I have a brand new 1X, and a new SIM card. Hopefully this one works.
I stopped by a vzw store to look at the gnex and my hox side by side. I've decided to keep the HOX. Screen on the gnex was way too bright and I ran quadrant side by side on both phones. The hox blew the gnex out of the water.

Bought mine yesterday and this same issue happened to me today. Had full reception on 4G but could not send a text or place a call. Happened twice today, and I dont know if I want to return it ASAP or if its software related and may be fixed.
I had that problem 3 days after buying the phone. Data, calls, texts..tons of problems. Phone was unusable half the time. I went and exchanged it for another one. I am now at 6 days with the new phone. No problems. I hope it lasts.

Some calls not coming in and late texts

Had this in the wrong section so moved it.
Not sure what this issue could be. A lot of people say every so often that they call me back to back at times. I get no missed calls notifications. Same with text sometimes. Not sure if its ATT or what. Happens at home and when I'm out. Anyone else experience this?

I had a similar situation recently where I was receiving texts, but no one was receiving mine. Found out AT&T was in the process to switching LGE on for a number of towers in my area, so I think service was semi-disrupted during that time. Fyi, I was running CleanRom 5.0 with BeastMode 3.4 Kernel.

I think I responded to you in the other thread thought I would follow up. So ATT did the reset on their end issue came back in about a week they said they wanted to replace the SIM card, and if that doesn't do the trick they will replace the phone. Fortunately it is my wife's phone which I had already returned to stock over the issue.
I had the same thing at my house a while back. It happened off and on for a couple weeks, then never happened again. Think this was due to network repairs or upgrades, like the previous response suggested. If nothing has changed on your phone, and it was working fine before, than its a network issue.

[Q] Can't make or receive calls

Started a couple days ago, using straight talk AT&T sim on my nexus 5, Data and text messages work fine, but whenever I try and make a phone call the signal drops completely and calls won't connect. People been telling me when they try to call it goes straight to voicemail. I'm running stock rom. Any suggestions? Straight talk and Google both with no help.
Have you tried a different sim card from like a friends phone to make sure its not the phone itself? You can also try to call ATT to see if its on their end.

Swapped sims with my wife. Mine worked on her phone hers didn't on mine. Think it might be a hardware issue on my phone and I got it on Craigslist so I think I'm screwed
Sounds like it definitely is a hardware issue now or something with the Sim tray. Sorry to break it to ya. Hopefully you can work something out with the guy on Craigslist.

I had this issue on the stock, unrooted ROM after about 4 months as well. I think the cache partition was corrupted. You can try wiping this in recovery and see if the problem fixes itself.
I didn't think of just wiping the cache, so instead I did a factory reset by unlocking the bootloader and everything cleared up.
Now I wipe the cache partition roughly once a month and the phone runs like a champ. Also I use sdmaid to clear the device from junk that accumulates over time.

Thanks for the help, but I already did a factory reset with no success. Data works fine on LTE but if ibtryvswitching to 3g or 2g signal drops as well. If I have full signal it will connect but anything in less it doesn't connect the calls.
Flash factory images then.

This happened to me on my non rooted N5 with 4.4.4. Disabling Wifi and/or LTE sometimes allowed a single SMS to get through, but then the problem resumed.
I fixed it by booting into recovery and wiping the cache partition. For some reason that took a long time (about 5 minutes) but eventually it finished and when I rebooted it was all good.
I'd try the wiping the cache and reflashing the radio.
I had a similar issue first week of owning the phone any time I sent a text I lost service until I rebooted.
From what I've read some N5's don't like the 4.4.4 radios. Mine likes 4.4.4 but couldn't pick up a signal if it had a 50ft antenna with 4.4.3 radio.

I just had this almost exact same scenario. I started having problems with signal dropping using CM12 nightlies (late April 2015) then eventually I switched over to a NET10 because T mobile was not cutting it to begin with. After the problem persisted on an ATT Sim card with NET10, I started flashing different ROMs. Signal seemed to be more stable and everything was fine for a while. After a few days I was no longer able to make or receive calls.
Eventually I did a complete factory image (still didn't work)
Flashed a 4.4 radio image (didn't work immediately, but the next morning it seems to be working as of now)
I probably could have skipped the hours of trouble shooting if I would have (found this thread first) and just tried flashing different radio images. Or maybe it was the series of other steps combined...not really sure.
Good luck and hopefully this helps the next person going through this mess. Oh and don't event waste your time calling NET10/Straighttalk customer service.
*EDIT* Above did not solve my problem, I actually had to fix the physical radio connections which came loose.
same problem
Hey guys having the exact same issue. Dropped my phone hard and then all of a sudden I cannot make or receive ant calls with my carrier dialer. I can send and receive texts, use LTE data , Wi-Fi. When I place a call, it is silent for about 10 seconds then drops the call. When people call it is silent for 15 seconds, then voicemail.
Called google, said it is out of warranty and LG would have to repair it for $150 just to see the phone.
Have done a cache wipe and factory reset. Is this most likely a hardware issue that I need to open the back for ? Little bit of a tech noob but can work my way around things. Any help is super appreciated as I love my N5 32G and don't have the money.
Same issue that I had, just remove the back and reattach/secure the radio wiring. It's on the left side and rubs parallel to the battery. It was a petty quick and easy fix.

So I took the back off and looked at the cables and they were both connected. I took them off anyways and reconnected them. Didn't see anything surprising to my eyes at least. The only thing I did find out was that LTE is the only setting that I can't use data and texts on. 3G and 2G say no cellular network detected. Do I maybe need to replace the antenna cables ??

Hmmm. I don't think the cables would be bad. I would just make absolute sure that they are staying attached after you re-assemble your phone. I even put a small piece of tape over the end that I noticed was loose. If that doesn't work then I think we had different issues with the same symptoms.
I'm having this same issue. Three weeks now, unable to make or receive calls. SMS and data work fine. Wifi works. LTE works. When I switch to 3G or 2G there is no connection and T-Mobile doesn't appear in the list of networks. The SIM card works fine in another phone so it must be an issue with the device.
Tried everything on the software and settings side, flashed different ROMs, flashed different radios including stock. No change whatsoever. I completely disassembled and reassembled the phone. Nothing was loose or looked broken, all contacts seem to be making contact.
I do vaguely recall dropping the phone recently, so I guess that must have been it. The only other possible cause was that Google Play Services was auto-updated the day before I noticed the problem. Of course that is unlikely to be the cause but just mentioning it in case anyone else had this issue starting around Oct 23, 2015.
As much as I hate to do it, I guess I'll have to get a new phone. Just no other solution I can see unfortunately.
For anyone finding this posting through Google, currently there is no VoLTE (Voice over LTE) support in the Nexus 5 on T-Mobile. If that is available when you're reading this, then you might look into enabling VoLTE and seeing if you can make voice calls using that. Based on my reading it seems like VoLTE is a software update (perhaps requiring the provider to support the device as well), but the consensus seems to be that VoLTE on Nexus 5 on T-Mobile is unlikely to happen. But they support it on the Nexus 6, so maybe there is some way it can be done on the Nexus 5. Also Wifi Calling on T-Mobile is not available for the Nexus 5. The consensus there is that the stock Google/T-Mobile ROMs are unlikely to ever add Wifi Calling support for the Nexus 5, but perhaps CM 13 or Android Marshmallow do or will have Wifi Calling support built in, so there may be some possibility of getting Wifi Calling using those.
Did you try checking the cell antenna? That was my issue, I just tapped it back in place and my N5 has been fine ever since.

If you mean the ones with the long wires, then yes, I checked those. Actually I checked pretty much everything inside the phone. According to this excellent disassembly video: youtube dot com/watch?v=OPuCmfhzgbg , there are lots of antennas and antenna contacts. So many that he doesn't get to all of them until 20 minutes into the video. But still, I checked all of those and they looked ok. There must be some damage somewhere, just too small for me to spot. He also identifies "external test ports" for some of the antennas. I don't know how those are used or if they would be useful to debug this issue, but for anyone else experiencing this, you might try looking into those.
