[Q] PC (win7-64) can't find files off my Xoom - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just got my xoom yesterday and I love it! I have ran into some problems. First i bought a mircoSD card and some programs are having a hard time reading from it. (Maybe they dont support it, dunno)
But when I plug in my mircoUSB in my Xoom and the USB to my Windows 7 i can't see some of the files. It's not even showing up the folders. I know they are there because I can't create them via Windows 7.
Any help would be nice, it was rooted with CM10 on it.

[Q] Nook Color CM7 (Gingerbread) - Reboot to use USB

Last night I purchased a Nook Color and promptly re-appropriated it for use as a tablet. I loaded up CM7 with the Nightly from 3-13-11 and Gingerbread (2.3.3). Everything is fine except for connecting it to my PC via USB. When I connect it I have to reboot the Nook for the drive to become accessible on my computer.
Android v2.3.3
Kernel v2.6.29-omap1
Mod CM7-03132011-NIGHTLY-encore
USB Debugging - Disabled
I've been searching the net all day today and can't find anything on it. I've tried with both Windows XP SP3 as well as Windows 7 x86, and a coworker used my cable and connected his Nook (which has the same versions, btw) to my PC and it recognized right away.
Any thoughts on what's going on?
Same here. I have the exact same issue. I dont see anyone responding. I on the other hand cannot get the Sd to showup in my computer at all. I walked away from the nook for a few minutes ONE TIME and i saw a usb mounted or something message one time. I as able to access the sd card and even remane it. I unplugged, plugged uab back in.. then nothing.. cant get the drives back now...

USB slave mode with OSX 10.4 not recognized

Hi All
I purchased my Xoom yesterday. I exchanged it from a Advent Vega.
I had a full 16Gb sd-card which I want to use with the Xoom. It does recognize it. But my problem starts when I want to to update the sd-card. My Xoom won't mount on my Powerbook using OSX 10.4.
Is there anyway to enable USB slave mode. The Xoom comes with one usb cable.
I know there is an app Tranfer Files, but it requires OSX 10.5, which my Powerbook wont be able to sustain. Only a 1.3 Ghz.
If not, I will have to depart with the Xoom.
Omnichron mentions that a small app created by a member of Modaco could work on it, but it does not.

There are quite a few Xoom owners that have macs. The title of your post is not descriptive of the help you are looking for. If you edit it you'll probably get what you need.

[Q] Phone connects to PC but can't see any files

So here is a very interesting question. Or problem perhaps more so. I have the VZ GS3 with the newest PA build 9-17-12 and when I connect my phone to the computer to use it as a mass storage device, I can see the directories, but there are no files shown inside. Also there are many many unnamed directories that show up as well on the SD card portion of the Device. It also seems to show it as a "Portable Media Device" perhaps anyone has some ideas about this one?
Just an FYI, I had this problem on several computers I've tested Windows 7 and Windows XP. Also I had this issue when it was on Previous Roms, ir does not seem to be specific to the PA build I'm on now.
Are you using the original USB cable that came with the phone? I had similar issues using a different cable that I had laying around but as soon as I used the cable that came with the phone all issues were fixed.
Honestly, I didn't even think about that. I'll try that as soon as I get home. (At work now). Thanks very much for the advice.

[Q] More Q's about the new tab

Hi again everyone,
So I have been using the tab for a week now. She is all rooted and ROM'ed (CROMI-X with _that 3+ kernel) and it seems to be running pretty smoothly. Now it's time to actually start using the thing like I want to. One of the thing I want to do it watch movies and potentially listen to music on it while traveling. I connect it to my PC to move some of the movies I have over to it to try out and I am having a real tough time getting anything to copy to it. Most of the time the device stops responding sometime during the copy an times out. I also have a 16GB class 10 SD card that I mount in the docking station that seems basically unusable as I cannot copy anything to that.
So my question is; Is there some trick to getting Windows to copy things over to the device reliably?
and, what is going on with my SD card to make it so slow that it is unusable.
Thanks in advance for an help or input.
Jeff
That's odd. I'd try a wipe and re-install. More often than not relfashing fixes quirks like that.
If you want to avoid spending time backing up and starting from scratch, you could try writing to your SD card through a card reader on your Windows machine and moving files over to your internal storage within android afterword. That should give you a pretty good idea whether your problem is hardware or software.
Wont help, i've got the same thing on all devices that use MTP. (Sgs3, gt2, lg l5-2, tf700t.) Wether it's 50mb or 50gb, it disconndcts halfway through.
Never had it before jb, when the got rid of mass storage it started. MTP is a very rubbish protocol.
Just plug the microsd into the pc directly. Another option is using wifi sharing.

Thanks to both for the answers. I will try the suggestions. I guess putting the card in the PC will work. Kinda makes the internal 64GB i have hard to use though. I was able to copy over a couple movies to internal storage this morning without issue.
What is the MTP protocol? I see that as the device to eject in Windows. Is that something new?
Thanks again
Jeff
what is the format of your cards? I plug my tab in to the pc to move large files to it. Some are 4gb blu ray movies. And they copy just fine. If your cards are FAT you might want to change them to exfat or ntfs.

Nook HD+ with Android 5.1 installed

Hello all, I've ported (or rooted?) one of my Nook HD+ tablets to Android 5.1 using the process given by PeteInSequim here. The process went well, and the tablet works great except for one thing. When I connect the Nook to my Acer laptop running Windows 10 Pro, via the usb cable, Windows Explorer does not recognize it, nor does it show up in device manager, and it did prior to the upgrade. If I remove the external microsd card and use the Acer card slot, I can access it. I want to be able to put some games on it for an elderly friend of mine who has trouble using a regular computer / laptop and likes a touch screen. Am I missing something ie. drivers or some other software? Is it possible to side load 5.1 using the laptop versus the wifi on the tablet to decrease the download time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roger
