Samsung I897 Motherboard or Whole Phone - Captivate General

I was setting this phone up to give away (for free) to someone as their first smartphone. But a bad charging port fried the phone. Does anyone have a phone to donate? I would take a complete phone or just a motherboard... or even a broken phone to salvage the motherboard from. Right now eBay doesn't have any that look like they would be usable (they don't power up). If you are willing to donate a working phone, I'll take pretty much anything!
Hey, thanks to anyone who can help me in any way!
If you know of anywhere I can find a replacement for very cheap, that would be great too!

Just curious... if I switch the motherboard, are there any problems I could have since the IMEI doesn't match the one on the motherboard?

Shouldn't be a problem. One thing though, some carriers like to pick on people about their IMEI so make sure you keep your original somewhere safe.

Thanks for the reply. I will be sure to write it down and keep it on a post-it right on top of the old one!

[Q] Evo Shift. Finding correct micro usb charge port part.

I broke my charge port on my evos shift 4G a bit. It's working still for now, but the middle plastic strip in the port that the pins are directly against has snapped off, So I was going to replace the whole port with some soldering phone tear down action. Problem is that I haven't been able to find the actual replacement part I can use.
Any ideas to where I can find one?
It's just a micro usb cable.

You misunderstood I think. I don't need a cable. I need the actual plug that's built into the phone you plug a cable into. As in I have to take the phone apart and do some soldering.
Try to find a charger port for an evo or a g2 or anything really they all use the same micro USB charger and port so the ports from one of them phones should work, maybe find a cheap bricked phone or something and take the port lol

Not planning on buying a broken phone and having to carefully un solder and remove a part that only cost around 75 cents new. I'm really surprised no one here has done this before. I may have to make a tutorial when I do it.
Then check eBay or microcenter.com that's all I know,no one else has ideas and you can't find that 75 cent part so your gonna have to do something before it gets worse

If you pay for TEP, sprint will fix it for free.

too bad I'm not a dealer. Aside from having to buy at least 5 from there (which would be cheap) they make you fill out dealer forms right down to tax id numbers before they will sale to you. A step in the right direction though. Thanks.

Nope. Still without it and still being very careful plugging in my phone.

Well the link that craven667 gave you is actually a step in the right direction. Because it does give you an idea of what your looking for. Now as they mentioned before you could just take it in to Sprint if you have TEP. Sprint will repair it for free. If you don't want to do that, or don't have TEP. You may want to consider is a repair service, like THIS ONE. Although I've never tried this type of thing. Also, as I thought it looks exactly like the EVO4G charger port. Which they sell on Ebay. I did a quick search and found THESE When you think about it only makes sense that HTC would use the same charger port across a bunch of different phones. It's just more cost effective. Also found THIS YouTube video of an EVO Shift teardown. Plus THESE still pics of a torndown EVO Shift.
Problem:
Broken charging port.
Solution:
Take it to the sprint store and have it repaired under WARRANTY.
Problem:
Sprint store refuses to repair/replace phone
Solution:
Go to another sprint store and/or call sprint
Problem:
Went to 3+ Sprint stores and called sprint and no resolution.
Solution:
Use TEP.

If your phone is under warranty you can send it to HTC and say it overheats...
Replacing the main board on a phone is extremely difficult, especially the One S, and will also void your warranty. It is nothing like replacing the board on a desktop.

The cost of a new motherboard is probably close to the cost of a new phone.
I mostly turn to aliexpress.com or ebay for "hard-to-find-parts". But I honestly wouldn't trust my skills to do this myself even if I could find the board. This looks too tucked in for my taste the little I've seen from the battery-changing how-to's posted. (youtube)

its easier to just buy a new housing unit on ebay. The dummy models don't have a digitizer in the screen, and are not normally able to be taken apart.

[Q] replace motherboard or swap screens?

Ok, ive given up hope of un bricking my tf300, and probably will never buy another asus product after this. My question is, should i replace the motherboard in mine, or put my screen and digitizer in another tab that i can buy for about the same price as a motherboard? Which would be the easier swap, and can someone like me without any special skills even accomplish this kind of thing? Oh yea thank u all for ur help in the past!!
Either is an easy fix, but I stole the digi/lcd combo and the TS board from my TWRP bricked 16GB to replace the cracked digi on a recently acquired 32GB model. I should be able to recoup some more from the non-logic board parts remaining, enough to more than make sense over buying a logic board alone. The battery, TS board, and good LCD alone might take care of it. If not, then maybe including all the little parts and cables inside will. Even if it is more effort to post and sell all that stuff, it should add up to more than selling a parts tablet with a broken digi and bricked logic board.
But then, I've had many tablets apart, and I'm decent at repairing them. Someone who has never had one apart might find either path daunting.
If doing the repairs yourself isn't a good option, you could always take the tablets to a cell phone repair shop, assuming there's one near you. Replacing the screen on a tablet is similar enough to a smartphone that they shouldn't have any problems. There's also a chance that they fix tablets anyway since they're kind of like big smartphones in the way they're assembled. And since you have your own parts, the repairs shouldn't be too expensive.

It seems as though I have problems after problems. After replacing my cracked screen I accidentally ripped the internal antenna now I can not get any reception what so ever. I looked everywhere for an replacement but no luck. Please help!!
Wish you lick finding one...honestly at this point I would try to scrounge together the 90-100 bucks it would cost to just buy another g2x
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
But don't buy another g2x, seriously!
The noob says:
In the absence of a valid argument, 2+1=3 may be used to explain why the g2x did not get the ICS update!

Parts can be expensive, then if you're doing the repair yourself, that's another risk factor.
If you can get some more money, get another phone altogether (be it another G2X or something else).

I found the internal antenna from Digi-Key! Haven't had a chance to install it thought but it is the right size and length.
