[Q] Evo Shift. Finding correct micro usb charge port part. - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I broke my charge port on my evos shift 4G a bit. It's working still for now, but the middle plastic strip in the port that the pins are directly against has snapped off, So I was going to replace the whole port with some soldering phone tear down action. Problem is that I haven't been able to find the actual replacement part I can use.
Any ideas to where I can find one?

It's just a micro usb cable.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=4868&seq=1&format=2

You misunderstood I think. I don't need a cable. I need the actual plug that's built into the phone you plug a cable into. As in I have to take the phone apart and do some soldering.

Try to find a charger port for an evo or a g2 or anything really they all use the same micro USB charger and port so the ports from one of them phones should work, maybe find a cheap bricked phone or something and take the port lol

Not planning on buying a broken phone and having to carefully un solder and remove a part that only cost around 75 cents new. I'm really surprised no one here has done this before. I may have to make a tutorial when I do it.

Then check eBay or microcenter.com that's all I know,no one else has ideas and you can't find that 75 cent part so your gonna have to do something before it gets worse

If you pay for TEP, sprint will fix it for free.

too bad I'm not a dealer. Aside from having to buy at least 5 from there (which would be cheap) they make you fill out dealer forms right down to tax id numbers before they will sale to you. A step in the right direction though. Thanks.

Nope. Still without it and still being very careful plugging in my phone.

Well the link that craven667 gave you is actually a step in the right direction. Because it does give you an idea of what your looking for. Now as they mentioned before you could just take it in to Sprint if you have TEP. Sprint will repair it for free. If you don't want to do that, or don't have TEP. You may want to consider is a repair service, like THIS ONE. Although I've never tried this type of thing. Also, as I thought it looks exactly like the EVO4G charger port. Which they sell on Ebay. I did a quick search and found THESE When you think about it only makes sense that HTC would use the same charger port across a bunch of different phones. It's just more cost effective. Also found THIS YouTube video of an EVO Shift teardown. Plus THESE still pics of a torndown EVO Shift.

Problem:
Broken charging port.
Solution:
Take it to the sprint store and have it repaired under WARRANTY.
Problem:
Sprint store refuses to repair/replace phone
Solution:
Go to another sprint store and/or call sprint
Problem:
Went to 3+ Sprint stores and called sprint and no resolution.
Solution:
Use TEP.

Charger Broke

So apparently my charger broke. Connected to the wall neither my phone nor my girlfriend's Fascinate will charge. Plugged into the computer nothing happens either.
Was wondering what I should do.
1. Are chargers covered under warranty? I have extended warranty/asurion full coverage.
2. What are the best replacement chargers? I'd prefer something from Verizon because I'd rather go to the store tomorrow and pick it up than wait for the charger to be shipped and delivered.
Any other help is much appreciated!
Also does anyone know the length of the charger cable that comes with the phone?
Verizon Wireless online shows different chargers/micro usb cables ranging from 9 feet, 6 feet, 3 feet, and 12 inches.
I bought a spare from eBay for $6 and its the exact same as the one that came with the phone.
i work for verizon and yes your charger has a one year warranty. bring it into any corporate store and they should replace it as long as it is not physically broken. if you have any probs replacing it PM me

A month after getting the phone my chsrger wires have already started showing at the phone end just from bending the wire to plug it in and place it on the desk. Would this be covered?

Are you saying that the insulation is breaking and you can see the actual inside wiring? If so then technically that would be considered physical damage but most corporate reps (or at least the managers) will exchange it as a one time courtesy. If you want you can pm me your number and I will stop by work tomorrow n put a remark stating that your charger started to fray n that if it continues to replace it as one time courtesy lol. If you live near delaware you can pm me n I will let you know which store to go to for a replacement

Sadly I live in PA but its not the wires showing its the steel between the outside casing and the inside wires. Kind of hard to explain.

Honestly I would just bring it in. if you have a hard time replacing it just pm me and I will help you out. I don't mind replacing things for customers because its probably been assembled in some third world country by a kid they pay 10 cents an hour to. Verizon is a huge company that can afford to replace a charger to a person that pays like $100 a month for cell service

If it's just the cable (sounds like it) then you could buy a microUSB cord for cheap at monoprice.com.

+1 Bought several already, decent quality & MUCH cheaper than in-store.

it's covered.
Unfortunately the Verizon Wireless store I went to wouldn't replace it. My wires were fraying and they said even though I'm under warranty they couldn't replace it.
Had to buy $30 travel charger :/
they suck! they are a bunch of corporate dogs licking their masters cracks! They could have at least given you a charger out of the returns and just put that one in the box! Horrible cust service
For $30 you could have gotten 2 cla adapters, 3 wall chargers and 5, 6' USB cables with shipping from monoprice.com
Just saying...

Samsung I897 Motherboard or Whole Phone

I was setting this phone up to give away (for free) to someone as their first smartphone. But a bad charging port fried the phone. Does anyone have a phone to donate? I would take a complete phone or just a motherboard... or even a broken phone to salvage the motherboard from. Right now eBay doesn't have any that look like they would be usable (they don't power up). If you are willing to donate a working phone, I'll take pretty much anything!
Hey, thanks to anyone who can help me in any way!
If you know of anywhere I can find a replacement for very cheap, that would be great too!
Just curious... if I switch the motherboard, are there any problems I could have since the IMEI doesn't match the one on the motherboard?

Shouldn't be a problem. One thing though, some carriers like to pick on people about their IMEI so make sure you keep your original somewhere safe.
Thanks for the reply. I will be sure to write it down and keep it on a post-it right on top of the old one!

Need an Internal Antenna for my G2X!!!

It seems as though I have problems after problems. After replacing my cracked screen I accidentally ripped the internal antenna now I can not get any reception what so ever. I looked everywhere for an replacement but no luck. Please help!!
Wish you lick finding one...honestly at this point I would try to scrounge together the 90-100 bucks it would cost to just buy another g2x
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
But don't buy another g2x, seriously!
The noob says:
In the absence of a valid argument, 2+1=3 may be used to explain why the g2x did not get the ICS update!
ANTENNA!!
Hi;
Was reading your post; and feel your pain!
You can get a replacement, if you go on EBAY
or AMAZON enter it in their SEARCH Box. EBAY

Parts can be expensive, then if you're doing the repair yourself, that's another risk factor.
If you can get some more money, get another phone altogether (be it another G2X or something else).

Good place to buy USB charging port flex cable?

My USB port is slowly dying. It only charges when the cable is in a certain position and when I move it , it stops charging.
Anyone know of a good place to get a new flex cable? I looked at etradesupply, but the shipping is too expensive. The port is 17.99, but the shipping to Canada is 31.99.
I bought 2 off amazon, but when I install it, everything works except the loud speaker. At first I thought it was a defective cable, so I tried the second one I bought as the spare.......still no sound.
At this point I thought I messed up my phone, but when I put the original one back, everything works again except the charging port.
Anyone have any experience with this? Know of a place the sells one that works?
Thanks
Where are you located? Ebay?
Since the N5 has built-in wireless charging, you could just buy a cheap qi charging pad to charge the phone wirelessly.
I'm in Canada.
I did think about eBay, but I'm worried it will be the same as the amazon one. I was hoping someone had ordered one from somewhere and can confirm it worked.
Are you in Toronto? Maybe post an ad on a buy sell trade forum for the part? Any local repair shops gave the part?
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I'm in Vancouver.
I have contacted several reputable businesses in Vancouver, but they want to charge to install the part. I understand their point though since the profit is in the labour.
I'm hoping I don't have to go that route since its substantially more expensive. The cheapest I have been qouted is $60.
I have opened up the phone and am comfortable installing it, so I'm hoping I can save some money doing it myself.
Is this the piece you need? A wireless charger could charge the phone if the USB port is able to transfer data.

Yup!
That's what I need. Have you bought from a place that you can confirm works?
The one I have works for sure because it actually came from an LG phone. I purchased two phones: 1 with a smashed glass, the other with a damaged emmc. I took the motherboard from the phone with a smashed glass and put it into the phone with a defective motherboard.
I have never purchased replacement parts from a third party except for non-oem pre-assembled LCD/digitizer/glass/frame from Aliexpress.
The USB replacments from Amazon look exactly like the original with the same number of contacts, etc.?

The amazon one I got, looks exactly like the one in the phone right now.....thats why I'm confused as to why it didn't work. I tried 2 and both the loudspeaker didn't work. Everything else works......however .
I'm not sure which vendor sold the part but were there any negative reviews or buyers mentioning this problem? Could it be something unique about your phone's speaker? I doubt it because the speaker for the d820 and d821 have the same part number.

There were only 2 reviews.....one said they had the sound problem and the other said it was fine.....I guess its hit or miss with third party parts.
It was the cheapest I found, so that may have something to do with it not working.
Amazon. Never buy cheap
OP purchased them from Amazon but I'm not sure of the price.
Any particular place you recommend?
Did you clean the original? 99%of the time its lint in it
I believe the OP has solved the problem.

I kind XDAer ( I won't mention who, unless they want me to say) sent me the original flex cable from their broken nexus 5.
I did try to clean the port, but it was still no good.
I did buy from Amazon, however I have to admit it was the cheapest one they had for sale. I guess you do get what you pay for.

Replacement USB-C to 3.5mm adapter?

I don't even know why Motorola trusted me with this tiny ass adapter But I lost the darn thing in a day. Does anyone know where to find a replacement that isn't from China and won't take a month to get here? I tried contacting Motorola about it but all they said was contact Verizon, which is useless considering they don't sell it. Any advice?
Not an answer, but similar question...does anyone know if a usb c to 3.5 mm male cord exists?
My headphones have a removeable cord 3.5mm male on both ends...itd be nice to have a cable as opposed to an adapter.

Just went to go look all over the "shop" section on their website, didn't see anything, you may have gotten it confused with their Micro USB to USB C connector. Thanks anyway man
A search on google yields plenty of ebay results, Im even more glad I got two now.

Yeah they're pretty cheap, but they all come from China.
I am thinking that will be the only option as the original is from China...and I briefly looked into it when I first bought the phone, I was then unlucky enough to receive a defective device and returned it for a replacement...well the adapter was in the bag not the box so I got a spare for the inconvenience of returning to the store.
Bump. Has anyone found a seller in the states? The only places that seem to sell them are from China.
Honestly, if you're a regular listener to music it might be time to go BT.
I've been using BT almost exclusively for a long time and and it's really nice.
First, no tangling of cords. No having to un-knot the mess when you take 'em out of your pocket or bag... no worry about snagging them on something when I'm sitting on the bus communicating to work.
Second, additional controls. Most BT headsets have controls for volume as well as track control so you can adjust without having to open the music app on your phone if you playing a game, checking email, or reading a book. Or...
Third, you don't need to be right next to your phone. You could have your phone tucked away in a purse or bag or briefcase or backpack and still listen to music. Or you could have it sitting on the charge on the counter while you're moving around the house... as long as you're not too far away of course.
Not, I'm not a serious audiophile, so I admit that there may be some degradation of sound quality going via BT. It's no problem for me, but I can understand that it might be so for some people. But unless your the type that really needs super good sound quality... or you just don't have the extra cash handy, BT is the way to go in my humble opinion.

I too only found ones from China, and I finally found a listing in the US for the exact same product in the chinese listings, the white one, and I bought 3 of them. Huge mistake, don't go for them. They don't support stereo headphones :silly:
Huge waste of money. I too decided to go bluetooth as the poster above me, I use a pair of Beats Studio 2.0 (I know you guys hate beats, blah blah blah) and they work great. I did manage to RMA my phone though, as I was having some issues with the power button, and they just sent me a completely new Moto Z Force Droid in box, so I have a spare turbo charger and a new headset adapter

I hope that will be good wth a sennheiser hd700, I have a FIIO E11 amplifier but I would prefer It works without it, just with this cable would be perfect !
Just came across two eBay listings for what appear to be OEM replacement adapters (SKN6474A), thought I'd share (after I bought two for myself, natch). Kinda weird: same seller, but the first link is for $7.99 Buy-It-Now, the 2nd is for $9.99 but accepting offers. Haven't received them yet so can't say for sure they're the real deal, but the seller has 100% with 150 ratings. Act quick!
